Nowadays people tend to get their fruits... from the supermarket, no longer being interested whether they are from the trees or molded from plastic (the exaggeration is intentional). This goes on including to Bitcoin seen as a get-rich-quick scheme. Many don't care about the basics, many just want shortcuts and something easy that's the mentality about everything nowadays. That's also the reason ETF are such a success: "nobody cares" about a wallet that has to be kept safely, that's for geeks (like us), all they care is a piece of paper telling how rich they are (yeah, in that ever-printed fiat, but they don't care about that either, since they may have been taking shortcuts at the math class too). |

Some people also said Windows and macOS are not good for privacy. But is it necessary to also use Linux or Tails for airgapped device? Being open-source and amnestic are the primary reasons you should use Tails for the OS of your airgapped computer. Privacy is a byproduct of these. I will add that Tails can be started with in-built feature of "no internet". And I will add that it's something I like because you actually don't even need a separate computer as airgapped device, you can just boot the same one from Tails. Of course, having one extra is more convenient. I think no matter the OS that you use, as long as it is not an online wallet, Windows and Appple can not know what you are doing.
I have seen many advises to use the OS you are used with, since the chance is smaller to make mistakes. However, one thing I don't like at Windows (which I also use too much) is the default auto-run at inserting USB stick, which can cause you surprises (eg install malware) when you are transferring tx to the airgapped wallet for signing. Plus, you know, most viruses and malware are Windows specific. So... I still recommend to give a good thought before choosing. |

But I know for sure that his position is not an easy one and I would not like to be in his shoes. I didn't want my previous post sound harsh... I only tried to tell a scenario I consider quite likely. what's even more disturbing and ambiguous would be how relatively the Royce and icopress' vendetta made way coincidentally into this... I don't like questioning the admin's judgment or interest, but a single visit in Jambler would make him draw his recently drawn opinion. He either didn't visit it in December / January, or he did, but thought it didn't quite meet the criteria.
My impression is that he knows that Jambler is not a mixer per se, but, if some can interpret the things and consider it a mixer ( of course, some members of the forum do this only because it benefits them, but wouldn't some from outside the forum think the same for the same reasons?), those* who have convinced theymos ban mixers in the first place may think the same. And theymos already "plays on the safe side" related to mixers... However, it doesn't matter much since, as very well said... You can't beat the admin.
* This may not accurate, it may be that he just thought in advance to avoid "those" start questioning on the forum, for example. But it doesn't matter that much whether this is accurate or not, the logic stays the same. |

Maybe it's time to significantly raise the dust limit. This transaction creates more than 1000 dust inputs. No. After reading the part I'll quote below (and I'll make some text bold to stand out), I think the correct approach (or at least one step in that direction) would be to make the P2TR output size be counted and limited to a reasonably small size. The small detail about P2TR output size tells that Ordinals actually exploit a missing rule in Bitcoin. As you can see in the script opcode, the push instructions are never evaluated. If they were, then all of these gigantic ordinals transactions would fail because they would overflow the stack. The manner in which the Ordinals transactions are spent is by using the conventional Schnorr signature directly, not any of the leaf evaluations. And also P2TR outputs do not count any sigops so its effectively limited only by block size, i.e. it's possible to fill an entire block with a large enough Ordinal.Of course, we should also keep an eye on who is also spamming the blockchain. Maybe some service actively tracking and sorting all possible spam sources could get a good feedback from the community. (Yes, I know, it's easy to say/dream...) |

Some tech savvy people think that Windows is a virus.  I guess that I'm not that paranoid and I don't want to deal with Linux distros. I have Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but I don't use VPNs. I just don't trust the VPN providers that much. I also would never use Bitcoin/crypto wallets on my smartphone(I have an Android device). I think that the mobile devices are a little bit more vulnerable than PC/laptops. Just don't click suspicious links, don't download suspicious files and don't use free public Wi-Fi. You will be fine just by following those tips, even if you don't have anti-virus software and VPN. Imho this in insufficient if you want to ensure your coins are safe. Of course, it's always a balance between how much the safety costs and how much money you protect. Imho if you don't want to pay for a hardware wallet and you know a bit of this and that on computers, making a Tails OS stick and use it as a cold storage (with internet always disabled from start) is already way better than relying on Windows (which btw I also prefer). Honestly, I have been using windows since 90's and unless you get attacked personally, like someone actually aims at you, or you do not use your computer in a silly way downloading whatever you find, then it should be fine. Well, never say never. A 0-day vulnerability is always possible (imho even for Linux!). And better get the correct protection before feeling sorry you didn't. It's like insurance: you tend to see it as money thrown out of the window... until you need it, if ever. |

I wouldn't call it "arbitrary" if it's one person spamming the blockchain for so long. The reason I still think it's one person is because of the massive numbers of similar transactions that keep flooding the blockchain. If fees aren't enough to deter spammers, I'd like to bring back the "coin days destroyed" priority mechanism. But it's going to be difficult to get miners on board if it means less profit.
As I said, I don't know "all the data", is it indeed only one entity doing all the spam?! But at the end, it goes to miners (and, as you said, let's not count on them because they're in only for the money) and maybe to community too. I guess that the community can do wonders - from switching to a "filter on" wallet/node to actually putting pressure/convince the devs to this direction. But... is the community convinced? Imho it's not. Imho if we want to go on this direction we may need to start with properly exposing the wallets (and hopefully entities too) that are responsible for all this spammy mess. It feels soooo like in the winter of 2017/2018... I checked and I saw no rare satoshi in this address So it's not Ordinals related after all? Interesting... |

And if you hope expect to get 1000s of $ for that tx, spending 33$ is not a bad investment (in your dreams). I'd understand that if there's a few of them. But since someone is creating tens of millions of them, it doesn't make sense. It's not rare, it's not scarse, it's just BS. I don't have a good overview / chart on how many are Ordinal related (is P2TR a good enough identifier? I don't know) and how many are just plain spam made by somebody who knows what is he doing (eg somebody related to mining). But don't take me wrong, I do agree that those ordinals are useless garbage more related to some hopes of scamming the next one than anything of real use. I also had my proposals to block them (as spam), but some said that Bitcoin network should not start censoring arbitrarily (which is also something I agree with). I have a feeling the truth is somewhere in between. Afaik Bitcoin Knots (Luke-Jr's fork of Bitcoin Core?) already filters them. But I guess that it's "market share" is far too small to matter. |

Who are those people who spend $33 to turn their 0.0005 BTC into dust? I was told that those dust inputs carry Ordinals/NFT so I'd say... those making and selling that crap scam art. Maybe somebody else can read/make more sense in that particular tx. And if you hope expect to get 1000s of $ for that tx, spending 33$ is not a bad investment (in your dreams). |

I'll guess that he's referring to big miners. The Ordinals crowd has no benefit from clogged mempool nor the tools for doing this systematically. |

I was unsure on "what's real" because I am not using their card much, but I can come now with updates on Wirex. I've received past week my replacement card, since the previous one has expired. Both the previous card and the new/current card are Mastercard. The production cost is 0$, but the delivery costs at least 5 EUR. Service fee is 0, but they usually have quite a spread at their exchange. The official list of fees is https://wirexapp.com/help/article/wirex-fees-1379PS. I don't know if my new card works good or not, most of last year it didn't and now I try to avoid spending bitcoin for a bit longer. |

After your problems and message, I've had a pretty big surprise: my replacement card has arrived in the past week. It was not tracked, it took about 1.5 months to arrive, but my name and address are correctly written onto the envelope. So.. it's not so much "if you have ordered a card with no tracking considered it lost", it's more "it's Wirex, some days are better, some are worse"  |
