1001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Happy to reach 50 merit on: August 01, 2023, 09:38:19 AM
those who only need a merit to reach a certain rank, post your most merit post, other post that you think is meritable is welcome and I'll review your post , please don't get mad if you don't received merit, keep learning, and don't get frustrated on setbacks.

So as per your statement, you can only help 15 potential candidates to rank up since you earned 50 merits (All time) and already sent 10 prior to creating this thread which means you only have 15 sMerits to spend.

I advise you the same "please don't get mad if you don't received merit, keep learning, and don't get frustrated on setbacks."
1002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I thought I would never get hacked... on: August 01, 2023, 07:45:13 AM
"assumption is the mother of all fuc*ups", and if you think that something can't happen to you (and it happens to a lot of people every day), then you already have a big problem at the start.

I don't really get your point though. The reason I lost money is because I screwed up. You are saying I have a problem. But in fact I have no problem at all. I will learn from my mistakes and everything will be alright.
He is just trying to say that you, assuming you are invulnerable to hacks and other potential risks which is lead to financial loss. The good thing is that you acknowledged your mistake so taking the necessary steps to improve is essential to avoid similar pitfalls in the future.

1003  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason why you will never become rich on: July 30, 2023, 02:33:15 PM
The first reason why you can never be rich is too much  responsibilities, carrying family problems on your head which we all know family problems are always around the corners and can't be totally eliminated. The best help to offer family is to put yourself in a better financial position,  don't struggle to help family,  struggle to put yourself in a better financial position then take away your from dependency. How do you take them away from dependency? If you have a company or business you are running or a connection,  you can connect your family members to your friends let them work for them so that they can earn their own money or you have a business you are running, they can work for you to earn their own money.  As long as their is still dependency they will continue to depend on you and demand from you.

The second reason why you can never become rich is not knowing how to use money. There are several ways money can be use :  spending,  savings,  and investing.  Many of us already know about spending and even when we spend we spend on things that are not really needed but just to impress people who don't care about you.

Buying liabilities,  things that doesn't have value five years from now.  Many save but even when money is saved,  it is done to spend and not to invest and the only way to become rich is to invest and not by savings.  So , invest in assets and not liabilities.

1. If you can't handle the responsibilities for your family then its your choice to stay away from it but it will work differently for different individuals. Even though a lot of first-generation people became millionaires and billionaires in this modern era still the old heritage family leads the numbers so it's a long-term process that may happen over the next few generations if that has become the goal of your life.

2. Money management is important but it's just too basic so just rule out it.

3. Everyone knows that we need to buy assets, not liabilities but what they are ignorant is can't differentiate assets from liabilities for example a house can be both an asset and a liability too so one who is intelligent enough to identify will has a better chance of becoming rich.
1004  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ADVICE]Boy Wins $46k from Sports Bet but Can't Tell Strict Religious Parents... on: July 29, 2023, 02:48:50 PM
Anyone above 20 is legally allowed to make their life choices in most parts of the world so seeking permission from parents doesn't matter at all. But if he feels that it is going to end their relationship then better shut his mouth and just focus on other things like he made the money with luck and that's it. Whichever decision he makes, it should be well-considered and aligned with his own principles and beliefs.

1005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Does anyone use OBWallet (OBAndroid)? on: July 29, 2023, 10:47:04 AM
I installed their v0.1.5 APK and was surprised that they are asking for permissions to Manage your calls and access to all the media which doesn't seems right. Has anyone had the same experience?
I can see why they request media permission if they need to create or access some hidden folders or something similar, but phone call permission is suspicious as heck. If this is still present on their final build, I'd suggest not using them at all. I don't recall other apps requesting similar permissions just to create and open a wallet.
Let's compare it with the electrum android wallet which only seeks camera access to scam the QR code while sending BTC to an address apart from that there is no permissions will be asked and we all know how reputable the electrum wallet service so this difference itself can differentiate which one should be used.
1006  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Im trader Economist and reasearcher this i got news for traders on: July 29, 2023, 08:41:52 AM

Im Economist Im trader Im reaseracher and alalytic needless to say Im looking to connect same kind of people to share ideas and skills to improve each others.
Im definately not a newbie i spend a lot of time to read and study to improve myself.
Im looking for others who do Understood same and they like aswell speculating with markets.

If you want people to buy your ideas/predictions/prices or whatever you are trying to share then it should be more organized instead of just jumping out and dropping a bomb. Some suggestions for you

  • Create your own ANN thread for posting predictions, ideas so that you no need to create a spearate thread for each of your predictions
  • Be Clear and Concise
  • Back up your ideas with data and evidence to demonstrate their validity
  • Use charts, graphs, or any other visual aids to enhance your presentation
  • Explain the factors influencing your predictions and their potential impact

P.S: Improve your English, there are a lot of spelling mistakes.
1007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Full relay : cost and benefits on: July 28, 2023, 02:52:41 PM
Running full Node doesn't give any incentives like mining and also it has been discussed in the past about incentivizing full node operators but implementing such changes would require careful consideration to avoid unintended consequences. So all the nodes running are driven in the sense of contributing to the network.

But having your own full node gives you complete privacy, and mitigates the reliance on someone's information.

Alternatively, you can find ways to run nodes in the most efficient ways and already an idea proposed by @n0nce

1008  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: que regarding BTC on: July 28, 2023, 11:49:52 AM
Hello Everyone;

As per my understanding, the lighting network adds a feature where you a payment channel between to individuals where nothing is transacted until the payment channel is closed. This is to reduce the fees on individuals and number of transactions on the blockchain.

I know you can run a BTC node by running the original Bitcoin wallet. So I assume the BTC lightning network is on the blockchain.

Since if it is not that would be a vulnerability.

Thankful for any info.

Running a full node[1] is not same as running a Lightning network node[2].

1. Running A Full Node
2. Explaining Lightning Nodes

The Lightning Network is indeed a layer-2 scaling solution for Bitcoin by creating off-chain payment channels between individuals. These payment channels can be used to conduct multiple transactions without each one being recorded on the main blockchain. So it doesn't pose any vulnerability to the funds that are transacted into the network.

Also, there is no such thing as called original Bitcoin wallet, you can run a full node on other wallets too apart from bitcoin-core so the wallets are just acts as an interface to access the blocks where the funds are stored.
1009  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is It Normal For A Site To Ask For Your Wallet Address? on: July 28, 2023, 09:20:16 AM

I want to transfer funds from my Bank of America account into Atomic Wallet.
However, there are 7 different USDCoins.
So I used the Help feature and ask which of the 7 should I use?

In order for me to understand what happened, please provide the following info:
– Your coin addresses
USD is fiat whereas USDC is crypto and stored in blockchain so there is no way to transfer your fiat to USDC address unless you converted them via exchange, swap or by any means.
Is it normal for them to ask for my coin address?
I've read about all the scams going on. About how good hackers are.
And why do they need my coin address?

Obviously, you asked a question that doesn't have any answer so the agent you are talking with is trying to understand you first and that is the reason why you have been asked about the addresses.

As others said they can't steal money from you with your address but it is a privacy concern that leads to many other threats so never expose your crypto address to anyone.
1010  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Please who knows about localcoinswap on: July 28, 2023, 07:48:00 AM
You don't have to validate your addresses and definitely, there is no need to join in their telegram group unless you wanted too.

You can register with just an email and verfy it to access your wallet and since its an no KYC platfrom then you no need to go through any further verification, just choose the coin or token => send& receive then your wallet address will shows that can be used to fund your wallet.

So obviously I stopped at that point and uninstalled it so OP make sure that you are not doing anything wrong by installing their app.

1012  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: walletprocesspsbt: How am I supposed to sign this? on: July 27, 2023, 02:40:45 PM
1. Without private keys the signing operation is not possible so yes you are right only with descriptors it is not possible to sign even PSBT.

2. If you have the private key corresponding to the public key "02ec372c4b6d6a6fc0964e07dd48448bc84921469fbfdc4c522da90f3a6b954fe9" you can sign PSBT outside of bitcoin core that supports PSBT feature I am sure that there are HW wallets that supports it and also it is available on Electrum too.
1013  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Mass hack -- over 1000 bitcoin addresses have been affected on: July 27, 2023, 12:09:36 PM
You mentioned the attacker only targeted Segwit UTXOs. So maybe the malware was using a block explorer that checks the balances of different types of addresses and displays them separately (i.e. not by private key), and that's what lead the hacker to go out and only steal from bech32 addresses.

Then again, I find the outgoing transactions suspicious too, because they are being sent to 100+ receipients.
This can't be the reason because I found Legacy and Segregated Witness (SegWit) Addresses (P2SH-P2WPKH) too in the senders list from the hast that OP shared so it doesn't make any sense that the hacker just stole a part of the money from wallets and more interestingly he left them unspent 3D2mKf28exn26v7BCVe9AXrrg4BY7qvYcv

But usually, they will try to convert them ASAP to cut the traces.
1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Small/medium scale Businesses confidence in accepting Bitcoin on: July 27, 2023, 05:58:16 AM

  • If for example a user of a custodial wallet sends Bitcoin to buy some goods and the seller voluntary chooses not to meet their end of the bargain, who are they going to complain to?

  • In countries where crypto are considered illegal isn't it risky to accept Bitcoin as a medium of exchange? Then why are some people still accepting it?

  • In a trade does the buyer send their Bitcoin first or the seller send their goods/service?

  • Lightning network has been praised for its speed in transactions thus used by many individuals. Does transactions only involve those you trust? Or there's a basis for the confidence of not been scammed?

  • I'm well aware of the dangers that centralized exchange poses, but doesn't their access to customers data make it feel safer to run a business? (Not to be confused for safekeeping of coins, just a means to run the trade)

1. Don't send your money for any trade before finalizing the amount so money should be exchanged only after consent from both parties and it is same no matter whether its custodial or non custodial wallet cause the transactions are irreversible.

2. They are breaking the laws which may financially benefits them but not an encouraging act.

3. Both scenarios are possible, the buyer sends Bitcoin first, and the seller provides goods/services afterward, or the seller delivers the goods/services first, and the buyer sends Bitcoin afterward depending on the situation and agreement between buywer and seller.

4. There is no need to trust anyone for using the Lightning network, the seller just have to provide the invoice then buyer has to pay it.

5. For them but I don't believe there is no benefits for users by using centralizing exchange other than convenience.
1015  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning network on: July 26, 2023, 01:10:10 PM

If I am using Electrum for lightning payment, is it your coin? The reason I asked is because they said not your node not your coin. I want to know how true it is.
If you are using a third party lightning network still the coins are yours and there is no security threats for not running your own lightning network the only issues are related to privacy. You can also decide which node you want to use run from the list and also can make use of Lightning Network explorer.
1016  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency to be used as an investment asset on: July 26, 2023, 10:53:02 AM
As of today's price valuation, the market cap value of total crypto is 1.17 Trillion dollars but bitcoin only has 48% of the total share which is 560 billion so the remaining 50% is invested in the so-called altcoins.
~snip~

Market cap does not represent investments, but only the possible value of coins that are often manipulated to make them look more attractive. Most of the altcoins market is just one big mirage, but people often see exactly what they want to see, until they realize that there is actually nothing of value out there.
Marketcap valuation may not be entirely accurate but it does represent that people are ready to throw their money away apart from Bitcoin and its expected since we started to call crypto as investments over P2P payment mode. And you are right people are always looking for the next Bitcoin, next Ethereum, next Dogecoin so with less capital they can make millions which is somewhat similar to expect winning a lottery.

Some people will learn that it is stupid to expect such returns or they will keep doing it so my point is it's our choice to decide where we want to stand.
1017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency to be used as an investment asset on: July 26, 2023, 08:41:51 AM
As of today's price valuation, the market cap value of total crypto is 1.17 Trillion dollars but bitcoin only has 48% of the total share which is 560 billion so the remaining 50% is invested in the so-called altcoins. Debating whether we really need to have any cryptos beyond Bitcoin is pointless since we already have thousands of others which are alive at the moment so it's entirely the users' choice to decide where they want to put their money.

I only prefer Bitcoin because it's proven, and not likely to be changed by the creator but I don't feel the same with any other coin that is why I only prefer bitcoin for investment and even for most trading purposes I just go with stable coin pairs only for day trading purpose.
1018  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why non-trader beginners prefer to leave their BTC on CEX? on: July 26, 2023, 07:00:59 AM

On the contrary, I have a question. If expert traders can leavehuge funds on exchange for trading purposes, why new comers cannot leave few dollars?
I am not saying that leaving funds on the exchanges is a good habit but then while choosing an exchange try to chose a reputable one that is not winding up tomorrow, so that you will not kill yourself because you forgot to transfer out your money.
Exchanges should be used as Exchanges and not as a personal wallet.
In reality, there is none we can be entirely sure that an exchange we pick will not suffer a hack overnight but assuming someone is experienced in the crypto space still they are willing to leave the funds on exchange then we can safely assume that they got enough risk appetite but a newbie who just started with something that is only affordable can't afford to make mistakes.

But the knowledge comes with experience and cost if we are unlucky, I was using coinbase for a while for day-to-day transactions because it felt it is cheaper and convenient I moved to Electrum only after I realized it was a mistake. Luckily I didn't lose a dime with the lesson but it can't be the same for everyone.

What do you guys think or make of this?, its an honest enquiry please..

Some people want to show that they are better with something like a higher merit ratio per post which should not be appreciated but since it has no bad effect on the forum then it's okay to clean up their own mess without loading the work for mods.

I am interested in knowing what the community thinks about it, I feel a pool about this will tell about it exactly.

1020  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet.dat on mobile phone? on: July 25, 2023, 03:23:17 PM

In the case the wallet isn't encrypted, the seed phrase isn't BIP39 and it has been generated by electrum itself, it should be possible to get the seed phrase from the wallet file as well.
I tried to create a new wallet on Electrum and found that the wallet files are not encrypted so with a simple text editor OP can access the recovery seeds on any device if he has the wallet file.

But it is not really good to have wallet files without encryption which makes it vulnerable and leads to loss.
