Another feature request: Make the "More items of this seller" show random or bestselling listings, not just the oldest ones.

I love the listing as shown in the "about the seller" tab. For auctions it should show those first that expire first. Else it should be sorted by top sellers.

The horizontal scroller for the "More Items of the seller" view is broken here. Also it is redundant to have that view underneath the Items list on the "About the seller" tab.
1042  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitmit - Bitcoin shopping mall (Translators wanted) on: February 15, 2013, 02:49:21 PM
Not sure what is the best option but asking for a state and making the state field required is confusing for not only Germans. Think about really small countries that don't have states at all like Vatican. I could say "Bavaria" but that would be more confusing than not naming anything.
Also the ZIP code is something people don't use in Chile.

At least your form accepted "--".

Thanks for testing this for us.
I also think that you should mention to everyone that we fully refunded all your orders.
Additionally, I personally responded to you every single time extremely fast.
Thanks again for testing, we are working on the Chilean issue.
Charlie

I don't know exactly what you're talking about.

You took my bitcoins.  You didn't give me any phone credit.  You disregarded my email and you ignored the problem description I submitted on the form on your website.

The statement "we fully refunded all your orders" is nothing but a lie.  You didn't refund my bitcoins.

Geez, it's clearly not a scam, the same guys already move 10s or 100s of thousands of coins per month, it's just new and they are working out the kinks I'm sure.

I don't really know what you're talking about either.

Are you saying that a person who takes bitcoins, doesn't provide the agreed-upon service, and then simply ignores efforts to communicate about the issue isn't a scam?

FreeMoney, all I can say is that we have differing opinions about what a "scam" is.

I do not consider that sufficient.

Would you say that if you pay for a hotdog and the gentleman serving it has a heart attack dies and drops the last one on the ground? Is he is a scammer? More is required than not delivering in order for a scam to happen. It requires intent. There is no bad intent here, they are trying to offer a new international service, there are going to be some problems for a while.

I wouldn't call it scam yet but I wouldn't call it O K neither when they don't resolve issues. I'm willing to share all information they need. I invest time. A lot of time testing their service from Chile. I charge a friend's phone, not mine and when I tell them it failed and had an incredible fee, they claim it did not fail and ignore my and other's questions about fees. Sorry I asked for one year when this is going life and they said they are still negotiating with some companies and I asked, why not start with some first as this is what you do to get the service tested. Take a small group and see if it scales (support also has to scale) and then add one country after the other. They said it would be better to start global. Hey, great, so they delayed things by almost a year to not launch global and not have things ready neither. Either you are a big guy and launch global and provide the support all at once or you are a startup and launch in increments. Sorry but this pretending to be the big guy made this a failed launch in my eyes.

Edit: I just tried the reddit gold thingy and the calculated fee was *minus* 1%.

So, as last time I will let you know about this not being settled until it is. Please send refunds to the same address I gave to Alex Waters or the address my payment came from.

This video should be about bitcoin and not about how to make sure only banksters get your data rather than all the criminals out there.
1047  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 11, 2013, 03:54:40 PM
the manipulator aspect doesn't have to be significant; all we need is a steady flow of new demand/new users which I think we can see on this site.

The fact that we rose so fast after a lot of us though we would see a correction and thus sold too early; first we are oversold; second we are 'learned' from this experience to wait till the full top which itself is a 'self fulfilling prophecy.' Last the psychological point to beat the last all time high of around $30 is another driving factor to people holding off selling.

I also find the $-volume quite convincing …

The fact that US government could crush bitcoin in no time and the fact that they did not do it despite the fact that it clearly made it onto just about every agency's agenda is proof enough for me that Bitcoin already has the blessing of the US government.

(If you doubt that Bitcoin can still be destroyed, please put into relation the $250,000 economy to the $50,000,000,000 printed every month and what a tiny fraction it would take to pay 1000 smart guys to hack every garage shop bitcoin business, buy 20PH/s ASICS, launch child porn portals operating with bitcoin, etc. The window to shut Bitcoin down will not close until the Bitcoin market value is some orders of magnitude higher.)

What about basic human character flaws such as arrogance, complacency, incompetence, compartmentalization, and a little sprinkle of corruption?

Many government agencies were responsible for the failures on 9/11, despite many warnings. Bitcoin must seem much less important than terrorism to the common man.

IE. 'We can crush bitcoin any time we like'. "Maybe next term'.

I like bitcoin drama so I would be in for some decent show down(s) Grin

Idea: auto-cashout to defined btc addr

Yep, please. I can't get bitcoins out of bitmit fast enough when I sold stuff and you can't be interested in holding them neither. If this auto-cash-out was not instant but twice a day for example, you could even do it from some cold storage, decreasing the amount in your hot wallet.

Edit: Wow! I'm impressed how there are some serious sellers now. I feel very tempted to buy green lasers, arduino boards and all kind of stuff.
1050  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin dies? on: February 10, 2013, 09:17:59 PM
I like MtGox cause there I always get a solid estimate of the current exchange rate.  Grin

The genius behind Bitcoin is that it is not worth attacking when it is small and vulnerable, and it is extremely resilient once it becomes big enough.

Excellent summary of what I feel is the US government's current stance on Bitcoin. In the US, at least, Bitcoin is not big enough of a "problem" for them to waste time and resources on. My hope is that Bitcoin will have shed most of the misconception surrounding its use by the time that it does become big enough for them to deal with. Maybe it'll see acceptance instead of condemnation. Or, at the least, apathy on their part.

Do they even know it's there?! Maybe the CIA knows it, or a couple of senators know it...but everyone will be like "What's bitcoin?"

Say "my toy porject XYZ will crush governments" and the CIA/FBI/… will notice it. At least their filters will get triggered if you and your friends say it more than once. With bitcoin this has been said over and over again. Of course bitcoin did not go unnoticed. Gavin was at the CIA and the FBI made a paper on Bitcoin.

Right now that Bitcoin is a relative unkown, with < 1 Mn users, an attack would probably help (with publicity) more than hurt.

Once Bitcoin reaches critical mass (1-5 million users and 2Bn mkt cap) the defense mechanisms (legal, network size and redundancy, number of exchanges and worldwide presence, etc, etc) will be very strong and the only viable way to successfully attack will be hugely expensive and will carry a massive poison pill. (After all, the blockchain has hydra-like qualities)

Bitcoin does not have the USG blessing, it's just that they are always sooo slow to act. The genius behind Bitcoin is that it is not worth attacking when it is small and vulnerable, and it is extremely resilient once it becomes big enough.

I wish you were right but I highly doubt it. For 100 million dollars you can build more ASICS than it takes for a 50% attack. For another 100 million dollars you can create 500 fake bitcoin businesses that scam the hell out of its users. With another 100 million dollars you can pay 1000 hackers for one year to make the bitcoin experience as painful as possible to those that run legitimate bitcoin businesses. With another 100 million dollars you can run a dirt campaign about child porn, drugs and head hunters that are all fueled by bitcoin and if that is not enough, attach one or two 0s to above numbers. It doesn't hurt when you can print those dollars.
1052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinWireless.com - 280 carriers in 112 countries, Bitcoin with no fees! on: February 10, 2013, 04:39:27 PM
Apart from one person on reddit that is "happy about the service since one month", is there any other person that actually got his phone charged? At what fee? At which delay? With which carrier?
I've done two successful Simple Mobile refills.

May I ask for carrier, country, fee and speed?
Simple Mobile is a carrier in the US.

According to my archived emails I was quoted BTC3.685 on Mon, 31 Dec 2012 16:55:03 -0800 (PST) for a refill card with a face value of $50.

I received the email containing the refill code 10 minutes later on Mon, 31 Dec 2012 17:05:03 -0800 (PST).

Wow! This sounds really really good. $13.42/Ƀ * 3.685Ƀ = $49.45 if I picked about the right rate. That is no fees and 10 minutes processing time.

Hope this will soon be available to Chile and the rest of the world.

My first order you refunded. That is right.
The second order you claimed to have delivered which I claim you haven't. Well, maybe you paid the telco and they told you they delivered but my friend has received nothing.

Additionally, I personally responded to you every single time extremely fast.
Fast, yes but not every single time. My (and all other's) questions about fees remain unanswered.

Thanks again for testing, we are working on the Chilean issue.
Great. Hope you sort that out soon. Will be back in Chile in some weeks from now Smiley

The "( Sell similar item)" is cool but has several issues:
#1 on my linux/chromium I can't scroll unless I scroll within the text box first. People are basically stuck to change the pictures and submit. Very weird bug.
#2 I have the impression the resulting items don't get listed under "recently added" which is fair if I split my "2 gold coins" into "1 gold coin" and "1 gold coin" but not when I sell a variety of silver coins.
#3 there is an extra space in the link. "(_Sell similar item)"

1059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinWireless.com - 280 carriers in 112 countries, Bitcoin with no fees! on: February 09, 2013, 03:05:27 PM
I tried it for the first time a couple of days ago.

I followed the instructions to send 0.4239 BTC to some address. Some time later I got a confirmation that the funds were received. The message said "You should now wait to receive a third email, which provides instructions from your carrier in order to credit your mobile phone. This email may take up to a few hours to receive."

I didn't receive the follow-up email or the credit on my phone after 24 hours. They've ignored a follow-up email as well as a message I sent from the contact form on their web site.

At best, they're disorganized and their customer support sucks. At worst, it's a scam.

I've already decided that I won't use them again. I'm interested in hearing if anyone else has successfully gotten credit.

Geez, it's clearly not a scam, the same guys already move 10s or 100s of thousands of coins per month, it's just new and they are working out the kinks I'm sure.

But when you launch and ask for feedback would be a good time to be quick on support, my simple inquiry via the form on the website is like 10 hours waiting.
+1

I don't think they would ever pull this off to scam people but I tried twice and never did it charge any phone. It was on two different Chilean numbers. Also I think problems should be made public and if they fail to make it public, I will not hesitate to bring it up again.

(I charged friends phones twice as the service went life days after I left Chile and Germany is not on the list. My friend ran out of credit after sending 2 SMS 12h after I "charged" it and hours after bitinstant insisted the phone was charged $4. My friend also did not get any notification whatsoever and neither did I get my 3rd mail.)

Hope the Wiki survives this restrictive measure.

and also be careful of the Luke-Jr 'god complex'

he has been known to edit things back to the way he wants them, even if his opinion is wrong

Oh it feels good to not be alone with this feeling. When Stephen Gornick sided with LukeJr I lost all hope and still can't accept his point of having done so to stop an edit war.
