1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - How much non-empty wallet do you own? on: July 17, 2012, 07:31:11 PM
Yea I should ask about how much different address do you own instead of wallet. That way we can check how many address there is in the network and figure out with these stats how many people there is in the network. Of course it doesn't consider the lost addresses... but at least it could gives us a good idea.

Again, this will not help you as sending money to my receiving address on instawallet does not mean that this address will not spend my input the next day without my interaction.

What about electricity and internet ? Perhaps it would be possible to generate electricity from the river ? Smiley

For a smartbook maybe  Grin
1605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll - How much non-empty wallet do you own? on: July 17, 2012, 05:26:59 PM
Pretty pointless this thread.

I bet many of the "1" voters refer to their instawallet/gox or whatever hosted wallet where they would actually have to click "0" which is missing in your poll. Hosted wallets are one wallet for hundreds of users plus maybe some cold storage/technical wallets.

On the other end you have "wallets" like physical coins which can be seen as a wallet of its own each.

Technically speaking a wallet is a collection of addresses that might end up in one transaction if the owner of the wallet decides to move all of it at once. If Gox moves all coins, all your "1" wallets might end up in one transaction. The physical coins could turn out to be all part of one big wallet despite the fact they are sold as isolated wallets.

Maybe you should elaborate how you are planning to draw conclusions Smiley
1606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hackathon (event), 13-15 July, IN-Berlin, Berlin on: July 17, 2012, 04:38:34 PM
Offline transactions means, if the buyer is offline they can send the transaction via Bluetooth to the seller. The user experience is (when it works) invisible - the MAC address of the sellers Bluetooth adapter is included in the QRcode and then the client can connect to it when sending coins without peering or discovery. The receiving side can then put the tx on the network and see if it comes back, thus checking its validity.

We're also looking at maybe letting the receiving side keep the transaction around in the wallet so if both parties are offline but trust each other, they'll broadcast it later when they have internet access.

We got pretty far, though the demo we tried to do was too flaky to really work. Once some bugs are fixed and a bit more code is written it should work pretty well, and the system can be a subject for potential BIP standardization.

Kudos! I'm all for that (or a slightly more general) standard! That would really reduce those connectivity issues and it should work for Spinner and other apps where signing happens on the phone as well Smiley

Any plans expanding into more exotic territories? Aka countries that do not yet have access to Gox for almost no fees?
Me in Chile and friends in Iran would be happy.

1BTC lost Sad

Hi,

I sent 1BTC to a friend (receiving address 1PWd56wQ9jAbrpcBAWuuhz77kBrQErxPBP ) and as along the way to get things going she had to send me the url I now, days later wanted to move it on to another wallet and wanted her to do it. She opened a new wallet with the receiving address 15ZmtzJMQH3UwpztWMx45y4rH8bj6wRuUr and sent the 1BTC but it never arrived.
Is there any issue about sending between instawallet accounts?

This was not a very good advertisement so far Sad
No, it should work just fine.
Just e-mail the support with a bit details because it isn't very clear for me right now.

Hm … had no clue what could have gone wrong but now I have a theory. Will ask her to check her browser history before bothering support again. Unfortunately she is pretty new to it … not bitcoin, computers Wink

Edit: We found it. Sorry for bothering. At first I couldn't understand what might have gone wrong.

Great job. It's really good.
I have a tech question how does the other than English language works is it automatic translation by Google, was it verified by some native speaker?
Yes, it's an automatic translation

Please change your topic. You did NOT reach out to 300M people with this. Get some translator before claiming such bullshit! It's not expensive at all.
1612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Nordic brings Bitcoin to 300M people in the Middle East and North Africa on: July 15, 2012, 02:54:19 AM
a) cashU again is not an option in Iran
b) Bitcoin info is barely available in Arab or Farsi
c) many Bitcoin sites are censored by the sites' owners for Iranian people

Many people here have a very USA/Europe-centric perspective of the world.
1613  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: July 14, 2012, 03:48:26 AM
Looking forward to the LocalBitcoins mobile app.

A few months ago was a StartupBus competition, and one of the contestants was Open Wallet app:

Here's their proof of concept video:

I have no idea what they were going to use to settle payment to the party acting as "ATM".  I wouldn't doubt they had no good solution ... and left it as "and magic happens here", after figuring out that PayPal wouldn't work for this.

If that was the hurdle these entrepreneurs couldn't solve, then had they considered using bitcoin as the settlement currency they might have been able to get funding, develop it and launch.

Well, ... will LocalBitcoins take it further?

Yes, an app would be great Smiley
(I would do it open source for 100BTC and actively maintain it under my Android dev. account but I can't do the iPhone part.)

See the new 100 BTC "trust roulette"

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93250.0
Hey, wait! You didn't give me time to feed my sockpuppets so I can give them the 100BTC from one to the other so nobody is pointing at me in the end Sad

If you are so desperate to loose your money, why not spend it on a good cause? What will this proof? Many here in the forum hold much bigger assets of many of us (aka we trust them already with 100s of our BTC). The OTC rating and many other webs of trust are in place.

With 1BTC play money this is somehow a fun game and I would love to use it as an example later on. Imagine this with bank transfers: "Please post your bank details and I will send you 8$ and after #100 I get my 8$ back." How ridiculous sounds that? Identity theft? Privacy concerns? Fees anybody? This context is why I participated.

Who calculated the total fees paid so far?

Sorry I can't send the coins as instawallet doesn't allow unconfirmed inputs to be sent. Stay tuned.

Big Brother doesn't need Google's help to know which bet statements I've wagered on nor how much I suck at predicting future events. :-)

Hey, come on Smiley I would bet you do pretty fine on betsofbitcoin. Your posts often look like encyclopedia entries with 12 references for facts that I never heard of before.

Actually I would love to see an option to make my record public — with or without betting amounts. Wouldn't it be nice to brag about betting right 80% of the time? (Betting right = in this bet I made a profit)
