1121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devs need to fuck off with their useless ico scam coins! on: May 31, 2015, 06:18:01 AM
I said it number of times before, I'll say it again - there is nothing wrong in ICO's as long as the money are used properly. But there must be more threads like this! Please understand that many capable coders and people with visions beyond of making some extra quick bucks are not well funded and their voice often remain unheard. This is happening, because of the one simple fact - people's greed. Thing is that many people are buying into the ICO's, because they know (let's face it - many ICO's were successful and people got chances to sell higher than they bought) that they will make profit, no matter if that profit is from screwing the average Joe who was naive enough to buy and hold. The simple fact is that people are buying to make quick profit - not because they want to support the given project, or cryptocurrencies for that matter. And the "devs" who are running them knows that!

Ask yourself why people (we are talking about the average Joe who is naive enough) are investing in ICO's and they are losing in 95% of the cases? Because they are sheeps... thats why! Instead asking themselves: "How the guys behind this project will sell the idea to the world.", they are buying roadmaps and fancy promises. Why are you not buying and supporting coins which are currently existing? Because they probably can't buy you a yacht that fast.

As for the scammers who are lurking in here... most of you have no idea. If you believe that let's say 2 people are behind 20 coins - you will be wrong. The situation is much worse than you think!

You don't really need an ICO, if you launch without one you can just wait until the initial mining dump finishes and begin buying, you could easily get 15-20% of the Coin for cheap and then just continue developing on it and you get the best of both worlds. If you launch without an ICO and buy from the market and are able to buy larger amounts then you would have had to buy from miners/stakers so assuming there was no deception, you can attain more than what could have been had by premining and can resale or give those Coins away to help stimulate development without having to worry about the accounting of it.
1122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CON] PayCon™ POS 30 Coins per Block - Get your CON on! on: May 31, 2015, 05:35:08 AM
Oh yeah, I have been working on a clean-up of the code and it's ready to test out so if anyone would like to Beta this, it would be a big help.

https://github.com/Crestington/PayCon/tree/Review

So the changes here are additions of "getweight" "getstaketx" and "deleteaddress" RPC calls, weight and time estimate notifications on minting, Coin Control time estimate, reworking of the estimated time, removal of some dead code in the "getaccounts", improved orphan removal, bug fix for unlockformint, improvement for connection to other nodes.

yeah what bio said! and I am almost 100% certain you should close the client before doing so. (I always do)

best part is with hyp since the blockchain is still small you can actually just rename blk0001.dat to bootstrap.dat or cat it like bio said if you wanted to make it nice and automated.

that is a feature press should put into his explorer.
https://ecua.mobi/how-to-create-bootstrap-dat/

There ya go. I used it once, but didn't have a download directory setup. I do now, and once GMC is fixed, I'll be using this script to maintain a constantly updated bootstrap. Might do the same for all the coins I collect Cheesy Though that would require a bigger server than I have right now. At any rate, the script works with minimal modification, or you can just do it manually. You MIGHT need to run this as root or chown your blocks directory to make it work, though.

Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for, I knew you guys were holding out on me Smiley

Tip you guys come CON for the help?
1124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [HYP] HyperStake | High PoS | Secure | MultiSend | liteStake | Adv Coin Control on: May 31, 2015, 04:15:38 AM
the end user would put the bootstrap into their datadir, start the client, the client processes the blocks, you save a shit ton of time vs syncing a virgin client. it is not the fastest thing in the world, but i would guess of the time savings at the very least 75%.

also, super sexy pi client just cooked for distro from sluppy can be found on the release page check it out.

So you put it in the same directory as the Blockchain? If you have an existing Blockchain do you delete that? What is the reason of renaming it bootstrap.dat? Would it just not be easier to replace the Blockchain with another one and not have to rename it?

Congrats on the new pi client!!!

why is the dl over 300mbs?

edit: downloaded, 0 connections and not synching

Did you delete your roaming folder before putting the new one in?

Don't forget to save wallet.dat before delete .MaryJaneCoin in roaming folder

Of course if you have some funds

Yes, your wallet.dat contains your private keys and if you delete that, it cannot be recovered.

Why can we sell accounts here?
Why can people have unlimited accounts here?
Why is bitcointalk not doing anything? How hard is it for Bitcointalk to hand over the scammer info to the authorities?
Why is all of this illegal in the real world but not here?
Why do we let this happen?

Maybe it's time to kill bitcointalk alt section and start a new forum with some values and rules.
Only we can change something here!

Because it would happen anyway outside of bitcointalk and bitcointalk probably doesn't have the resources to investigate and enforce such rules nor they want the drama that's following bans and accusations.

This forum is just a tool, not an authority figure. Same as exchanges, people blamed them a while back for adding all kinds of shitcoins while they are also just a tool which can be used in different ways.

If I had to guess I'd say the guys behind bitcointalk would probably rather close the whole altcoin section before spending time and money starting to govern shitcoins individually and I wouldn't blame them.

One of the reasons this forum is as big as it is because everyone can say whatever they want. People just need to learn how to swim in these muddy waters that is the altcoin section.

The ICO thing would happen regardless so if there is a lot of scam ICO's then there aren't people investing in new Coins because of that fear or will question why. More investment would then flow into existing projects rather than being spread out into new ones.

Do you guys have some useful guide on creating a bootstrap.dat?

I could host one for you guys if you want, I did it before where I had loaded up my Blockchain as a zip file and it worked but that isn't really the proper way to do it.

I'm not home right now, but I have a script for it. Basically it's a script that gathers all the BLK000*.dat files in order and put's 'em together, renames the output bootstrap.dat, and then copies it to your specified directory for download. Can be set as a cron, so it stays up to date. I've only used it once, I usually just do it manually. (cat blk0000 blk0001 blk000* ... > bootstap.dat

I was more interested in the process of making the bootstrap itself, not just for HyperStake. I want to be able to add it to the list of guides and stuff I have here https://forum.gethashing.com/t/how-to-clone-a-coin-links-and-resources/3833

Are you able to link me to an already easy to go through guide if you have it or walk me through the script?

Rename blk0001.dat to bootstrap.dat. that's the magic secret.

But how then do you allow other peers to connect to it and then use it as the bootstrap?

you upload it somewhere and let them download it. thats it.

Just the bootstrap.dat? What is done to use it?

I feel the coin is worth more not only because it is executed professionally and constantly improving, but because of an idea it brings as its flag... Promise nothing, deliver something..
Origins from a failed star, but future depending on all enthusiasts that I believe will boost through to coin at least nr. 5 world wide Tongue
Ever looked for smth worth to fight for Cheesy Huh Join the battle on c-cex at 500ies until whales kick in..  but we have to bring up not only the volume, but supply also imho.. We have nice volume/market cap already, maybe it's time to increase supply a little bit if we want whales starting to flock... Cool

 Cool Cool Cool

Supply is growing at a nice clip, still will be over 300% over the next year for Staking. I want to get more people interested in the Blockchain and coding side of it, I've built the latest changes I've made but needs bug checking.

Next things we can work on with the source is getting a bootstrap setup for new users and start experimenting with Block trimming. The thing with a Coin is that after a year, two years etc. is that you generally need a bootstrap or it takes ages to sync, we could just relaunch the Coin then with all the same balances built into the Genesis but experimenting in doing that would help develop an automatic way of trimming off old data, cross chain transactions.

We can also do an OP competition and gather some Coins to get some opensource work done on cleaning it up. I did a little competition way back where you just take the OP, give as much available stuff for people to use and the example, users get a bonus of Coins for each edit they do that gets added into the OP depending on complexity.

I'll be away over the next day or two, I'm moving house but will have about a month off work. I'm not sure if I will have internet right away at my new place, but I'll be quite a bit more active over the next little while.

Is there a way to convert v1 funds to the new ones ?

They were doing tests with a few wallets and coming back to see if they can fix the root of the problem. I meant version 1.1 as in the first version way way back, like a year ago or something.

I think there are at least 3 forks.  We need to figure out which one we should be on.

I just restarted my client  it's showing block 226503 of 319852 blocks downloaded.  Last block about 1 1/2 hours ago.

Here is the peer info.

Based on the last post I'm trying connect with a couple of the IP's that have the longer block chain.  So far it looks good 4320 of 418723

Maybe MaryJ or Jahvinci can post a bootstrap file to make updating faster.  Also does the client need updated checkpoint per Crestington?

Everyone should be careful not to transfer substantial amounts of coin until we're all on the same fork. Working on checkpointing and making a bootstrap file, stay tuned

I'm not sure the 418723 is actually a good chain either.  I got to 226503 without connecting to specific other clients.  Now that I tried to force myself to use the clients at a height of 418723, I seem to get stuck on block 4320.

Stopping and restarting the client a few times seems have now have things moving.    up to block 10028 and climbing.

Also I'm just futzing around, don't take anything I say or do as official.  I'm not really sure I even know what I'm doing...  Smiley
I know there are some sharp cookies out there that can look at this mess and tell us exactly where we should be.

You have some people connecting on version 1.1, has the protocol been changed? Maybe you have some conflicts.

that is right.... we should do something for that... video chat or the like. Find out where press lives and TP his house.

You could sell a little HYP, pay for 10 pizza's to be sent to his house Smiley

OH yes, good idea. Hmmmmm how to get out to Utah. LOL.

Pay over the phone, or online. Maybe some Chinese?

Something weird going on.  If I look at the debug panel status it shows I'm at block 226437 of 415246.  But it looks like the wallet is staking things.  A lot of staking, and based on # of confirmations there are others staking or moving things in between.

Now I'm at 226440.

I can't copy anything from the wallet block explore or I would supply the hash so others could check and see if were all on the same chain.  I'll check for a working external block explore and see if I'm even close.

Hmm, you guys could update the checkpoints of the sourcecode and that would help make sure you aren't staking on a fork.

ViK must be a very important pig farmer!

When you create clearances and certifications out of thin air....  The internet notices...

No results found for "nuclear authority security clearance".

When life is like a video game....

Achievement unlocked:  Received clearance described in a bill which died in congress?

"enhanced security clearance"

Enhanced Security Clearance Act of 2014. Introduced: Oct 30, 2013 113th Congress, 2013–2015. Status: Died in a previous Congress.

EDIT: Personally I still believe ViK is tied to an international hacking group such as DD4BC and has been hired to a lot of Josh's hacking jobs. (Which we know he could not have done himself) It fits pretty well, the more deeply involved they were the more they would continue to shill for Josh in hopes criminal charges don't get filed which could lead to Josh turning against the group ViK works for.

Of course, the alternative is that he/she/it is a complete idiot who works at a nuke plant in a european country as an IT specialist and got in too deep with Ganza. Ganza would have promised to or paid out to make ViK whole (Similar to the offer to Adam to make him whole, which was refused by Adam)

Is there more options which fit logically?

I would say it's option B "he/she/it is a complete idiot who works at a nuke plant in a european country as an IT specialist and got in too deep with Ganza"

If he/she/it were part of a sophisticated hacking group, they would have the smarts not to shill and could write coherent sentences. Those certificates amount to having a bachelors degree in political science and working at mcdonalds.
1140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CON] PayCon™ POS 30 Coins per Block - Get your CON on! on: May 29, 2015, 10:02:57 PM
I am very glad that the price is rising, but it's somewhat much harder to get stakes in the last days, don't know why... Bad luck maybe, but I didn't sell, I have the same amount, but stake less.. Oh, well.., I guess it's time to buy some more while the price is still affordable and not 20$ then Tongue

Well, there is a finite amount of Coins being produced per day but that is relative to the total amount of Coins. As time goes on, the Stakes get harder but that is also good in terms of network security. I think the inflation is down to around 0.6% per day which is still very high but the best spot was a few months ago at the beginning of POS where it was 2% per day. It relies a little more on market trade now so as less Coins are being produced (in relation to money supply), it relies more on trade.

Also, we can look to improve rewards and the structure as we go. This isn't like BTC where it is seen as never changeable although increasing the inflation even more generally has the effect where there becomes more downward pressure on price, higher amounts of Coins to already large holders.

I was working on ConStand a couple weeks ago with semismiling from the GetHashing forums but haven't heard from him in a while so may end up picking it back up on my own. Cryptopia has their own marketplace now and as a result means CON also has a marketplace, this means we could start selling some goods and merchandise for CON. Movement of Coins drops difficulty as coinage is spent, an active market and more movement takes more Coins out of the competition for Stakes.

I would say atleast the fundamentals are good, there is a fairly large base for a network now, price to volume/marketcap is pretty good, the distribution has been good, If you mined or bought early on then the rewards increased, rewards from fees increased and early adopters got together and used Coins staked to do Staking week, and a large giveaway which so far yielded a few new things for the network, lots of upgrades over it's course.

I guess the question is, how can it be improved?
