1182  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Income shares in Avalon batch #3 on: May 19, 2013, 04:07:13 AM
Vagnavs offers a Batch #3 Avalon pre-order for sale at auction starting at BTC 100.

This auction is for the purpose of buying that machine and adding it to my facility.

I am willing to sell income shares of my facility in a multiple-winner auction.  If I collect sufficient funds, I will buy Vagnav's machine at his terms, mine it to the best of my ability, and distribute the income equally.  Each share gets 0.1% (0.001) of the income equivalent to a 3 module Avalon.  I pay all operation costs out of my pocket.

If I fail to buy this machine for any reason, I will return all the bids.   I will return all unsuccessful bids.

My generic auction rules are online.

These auction rules may not be familiar to you.  Please feel free to read them over, and to ask any questions that you may still have.  I have tried to make them fair, and as simple as possible, but not too simple.

The submit-bid address is 1LaoUPwofxkxPWfGyRNtGU931bLg5hq2pM
The admin address is 1NGCVKwFK7P3vfi6WwAF1cpPeE9MvUn6E6

A suggested starting bid is BTC 0.175, or approximately USD 20.

This auction will remain open at least until block 237,800.  Any winning bid included while the auction is open will extend the closing block number by 10 more blocks, including added to it's own block number.

If another machine becomes available at better terms, I reserve the right to buy it instead.  I will leave all funds parked at this address throughout the auction.  I may bid an amount that is different than the funds available at the submit-bid address.

Just a quick word on the politics and definition of bitcoins. I believe it would be very wise not to call bitcoin a currency. Bitcoin is a token. You buy this token with currency and in the end it is sold back for currency. It cannot exist without a currency behind it so it is not a currency per se. I think it would be very wise to start thinking of BTC as a TOKEN. Just my 0.002 tokens Smiley
Disagree, sorry Smiley

Why? I'm being prudent and practical. My reasoning is that as a token bitcoin is not competing with any currency, like gold. You can say gold is a currency but for all practical purposes it is not. You cannot go to any store and buy anything with gold. You can sell your gold for currency and then buy something. Same with btcs. What is your reasoning?
It's been not so long when gold was accepted in stores, at least in US. This simple.

The March 18 FinCEN document called bitcoin a virtual currency.  That distinction is enough to keep it separate from USD, Euros, and the like for purposes of regulation and taxation.  I think, as a group, we call it digital currency or virtual currency in the majority, and it should not be difficult to adopt the uniform language of virtual currency.

I think that noone here said it was a bs... If you need money fast your best option is to sell shares of the Avalon and cash out (maybe 100-125btc). If you wait until it arrives, you can sell it for 150-200, I guess.
I personally have no faith in the roi of these units, I'm not sure about anything anymore... I can only hope that when Avalon decided to delay to mine themselves they somewhat knew what would happen to the difficulty, I hope that they have some model, that they have insider info from bfl/helveticminer/100th and that somehow in that model the roi of these units is positive. This is my only hope.
What evidence do you have that they mined with these machines?
There is no evidence other than circumstantial evidence.   I actually think Kano summed that up pretty well after he was repeatedly asked to back up his accusations.
I think someone receiving a unit (you know the ones that were conveniently shipped just before Yifu went to the Bitcoin conference) that was full of dust is VERY troubling.   Dust blowing in would only be around the fan holes, not spread through a machine and he also showed that is arrived tightly wrapped in plastic (so it did not sneak in while it was in the box).
That FPGAminer says two of his units (the black ones) are clean and only one is dusty (the aluminum one) is a bit of a relief but only time will tell.
It would have been helpful if Avalon actually updated people when they knew that their last updated statement was going to be false.

I think it is pretty clear that the 1 unit was distressed and used.  I also think that blaming it on Avalon instead of finding out who did it harms us all.

Reports from the battlefield:

All units unboxed, one is running.  Two of the units had the new, black case.  It is very sexy  Cool  You'll see it in the unboxing video.  The third unit has the old case.  The black ones looked pristine; no more dust than I would usually expect.  The third unit (silver case) had significantly more dust, but I figure that's just because it sat around in a dirty warehouse for awhile.  I've gotten dirtier stuff from Amazon.

I did not receive any power cables, wifi antennas, or gloves, and I don't really care  Tongue

All units look good so far, no damage.  I will know for sure after booting up the other two.

Video upload in progress...

Do you know if you are one of the 20 test shipments, or a not so special dude like the rest of us?

dafuk DHL guys mined your avalon and after weeks deliver you?
Yeah... DHL...

I do think the pollen could identify the location to within 50 km.

my house is about to get forclosed.. i need that avalon

If your in that rough shape (sorry to hear) have you considered auction of your unit? Especially with b2 shipping now I'm sure you'd get some takers, and imagine somewhere around the 180% mark.

I auctioned off shares for the future output of my unit, 1 share = 1%.  If I did it today, I would make 1 share = 0.25% to let more little guys buy in.  (400 shares for the entire unit)

I have refined the auction rules a little based on my auction, and posted them on Google Docs.  Please feel free to use these rules as they are, or to modify them.  If you do modify them, I would appreciate a link to your version.

This might let you raise some cash while waiting for your unit to arrive.

You are joking right?
No
Are you in the US?
Buy a "log book" or use your "DayTimer"
Call the bank today.  Ask "What workout options do I have?" and use that exact wording.
Be sure to write down their answer then and there, and read your list back to them.  It is completely ok if this takes a lot of time.  You are engaged against a room full of attorneys and you want to do your part carefully.
Ask if there is a "mortgage modification option."
Ask if there is a "short sale option."
Nose around on your bank's web pages.  Use Google.  See if there is a packet of forms for you to download and use.
Begin writing a hardship letter that documents "why" you are in this situation?  Act of God?  Vandals?  Health change?  Employment change?
If you qualify for a mortgage modification, I think the first option the bank will attempt is to lower the interest rate, down to as little as 2%, in order to make your mortgage payment less that 0.31 of your income.
Don't lie about anything.  They take careful notes also.

Although I'm concern about the conditions of my received unit. Anyone else had received his unit in poor conditions? mine seems to be used before... even worst it's damaged!.  Angry

I already wrote Mr. NG Zhang regarding this unpleasant issue..

The dust looks greenish-yellow to me.  I wonder if it is pollen, and if it could be useful to locate the unit has been.

How to add "4th,5th pool" under "More Options" ?

Edit: Found it... add: "-o ip:port -O user:pass" for each pool

It even works with more than 5 pools...

Can different pools mine different coins, e.g., bitcoin and bytecoin?
1193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: May 16, 2013, 05:45:53 AM
I hope this coin isn't dead yet.

I had about 15 connections two days ago, then it dropped suddenly.
1194  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: May 15, 2013, 06:13:39 PM
I have never been so happy to see other people getting their ASICS.  I am batch 3 so the sooner you all get yours, the sooner I will get mine.  Here's to progress Smiley  Cheers!

My thoughts exactly. May we all profit anywhere between decently and handsomely!

Yes, a strange mixture of elation and fear of competition.

Is anyone else still waiting on funds?

I am.

My bitcoin transferred uneventfully.
My USD is has a payout requested.  It showed processing a few days ago.
1196  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon ASIC Batch #2 Income Sharing [cancelled and reopened] to fund #3 on: May 13, 2013, 10:58:39 PM
I have decided to announce that a portion of the auction will end.  Conveniently, my birthday is Friday, May 10, and I have chosen a block with a pleasing number that may fall on that day as the closing block for the auction.

I should be clear on how a portion of an auction ends.  The highest 3 winning bids will become permanent winners, and that portion of the auction is closed.

To be considered, your bid must be included in or before block 235,532.  If you find that time is short, you may pray a higher mining fee for any last minute transactions.

Is this still valid? And if so, are the top three bids up to block 235,532 as follows?:

1   14Zqn3i1iDJzmkFCRjVqDe4YqgkrrmyEYd   1.23359794 BTC
2   1Fu4JaynbQrtkSPN73uoDqEPAxyzVfsqLu   1.2141 BTC
3   1cCXNG5mNFkErBWtCLaVLA9fZrGAzFCB1   1.211 BTC

And many happy returns on your birthday ProfMac!

I agree that these are the top 3 bids.

I have some PHP code that harvests all the payments where 17DCms43Vu2yusDjmpjHJuZihSSWkNzgSH is one of the outputs.  This means that I can tell how much has been paid to a given address.

Gmaxwell, a developer, says that it is not possible to find how much an address has paid out using the JSON interface on bitcoind, since it isn't necessary.  This means that I don't know how much has been refunded.  I can get the transaction if change was paid to the address, but not otherwise.  I really want to know that before I start refunding money.

I have found an additional API on blockchain.info that has all this information.  However, it has an output limit of the last 50 transactions.

Here are the amounts that are received.  Again, if I made a refund that included change to the 17DCms43Vu2yusDjmpjHJuZihSSWkNzgSH address, it is incorporated in the table below.  The developers seem to want anonymous transactions so much that they actively discourage any audit trail like I am trying to generate.

Anyway, I am still working on the complete package, that will give correct net balances.

Code:
count	address	received
2 14Zqn3i1iDJzmkFCRjVqDe4YqgkrrmyEYd 1.23359794

All it does is say the developers are screwing us all over "secretly", not tell us what we can/should do about it, etc.

No they are screwing us publicly. The only thing we can do is convince a bigger miner to not use 0.8.2 or to allow transactions of dust, but that happening is very slim as I have reached out to some of them, and most of them are going to do it. Of course who knows what the ones I didn't contact are doing. So we just have to take it.

Can you give a scenario where this limit hurts you?

It is censorship, it is controlling how I spend my hard earn money. The white papers say I bitcoin go to the 8th decimal place, this is changing that, so this must be a new coin then right.

No, it's not right.  From what I have read, the new client has an option in bitcoind.conf to set the transaction limit.  This is actually more freedom, not less.

What I asked for is a scenario.  I am thinking of numbers, bitcoin amounts, where you think you would be harmed.  The inputs, the outputs.

why the fuck would you send less than 5uBTC to ANYBODY?

My noob impression is that, if I send 1.000 000 00 BTC out, pay 0.001 000 000 BTC in fees, and I have 2 unspent transactions in my wallet of
0.005 000 00 BTC and 0.006 000 03 BTC, I think I will generate an output of 0.000 000 03 BTC as change.
