Since bitfloor has a lawyer... tell me why this can't work:

Roman gives the lawyer the money with a list of people owed, and the lawyer contacts everyone with a settlement agreement. If they want their money, they sign the settlement, and he mails out checks... why is that so fucking hard?

Perhaps the lawyer's bank won't allow him to deposit the check from Roman?

Seems crazy to me. It's from what, US Bank or something? Or bank of America, I forget. Go into Bank of America, and cash the check with hundred dollar bills and give it to your lawyer. Yeah, yeah, that won't ever happen but the whole thing seems a little crazy that his lawyer can't get it worked out for him. Pick a new lawyer.

If you are so sure it is that easy, make the agreement with your bank to be the disbursing bank and let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I'm selling my all 1036.62216526 BTE. Offers, please!

I have had some success with a block-chain auction.  That might work for you.

In it's simplest form, you post and address and announce what block the auction will end.
Bidders pay their bid to that address.
You may want to extend the auction 10 more blocks from the payment block if a bid comes in before the ending block.
And of course, return the non winning bids.

TheJuice has written a web page to help follow the totals in such auctions.

And AudenX deserves steady applause for the effort!

AudenX deserves to be paid for the effort.  If/when I get my funds from Bitfloor, I will most certainly be making a contribution to AudenX.  I would hope that anyone else who has appreciated receiving his updates would consider doing the same.

Does anyone have a link to his announcement for this effort?

This is just stupid. Can we have a proper minimum increment. I bid 1.399 [1.4 - fee], only to get beaten by 1.400.

Sorry about that, I just like round numbers  Wink. We both lost that round anyway.

Yes, we both lost by 0.000001 btc. Thats 0.013 cents. This isn't an auction, its a minigame.

I set the 10 block extension so that people would have about an hour to increase their bid.
1125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just had 39.70 bitcoins stolen from blockchain account! on: May 29, 2013, 05:26:07 PM

Don't use Yubikey unless you have a Yubikey (it's a physical USB device). And AFAIK blockchain.info do not have their proprietary yubikeys, you have to use a Gox Yubikey, which is absurd IMO (the whole point of 2FA is to use a UNIQUE mechanism for each account).

I'd suggest using SMS because you do not need a smartphone and you can easily and immediately recover your phone number even if you lose your device. Google authenticator is good too, but you need to have a proper paper backup of the QR code and/or the private key of the security token linked to the account (this is mandatory or you may very well end up having the same problem described in the "I want to sue Google" thread in the legal subforum)

I have a Mt.Gox Yubikey, and also a standard Yubikey.  Both of them will enter characters into the authentication box.  Neither of them seem to enter the "return" character, which is the behavior that the key seems to have in other environments.  I have tested this on Firefox and Chrome, both in a Linux environment.  I also tested it in MSIE in Vista.

My standard Yubikey behaves the same way - the code enters the box but is not saved. I'd really like to use Yubikey as it seems the e-mail 2FA at blockchain lags quite often (I'm using gmail with my own domain). Is the blockchain Yubikey 2FA method working at all? AFAIK only the Mt.Gox ones are not supported for the "new" accounts.

Seems the Yubikey support at blockchain.info was fixed and Yubikey 2FA works now (at least my standard one does).

My standard Yubikey was accepted.
My Mt. Gox Yubikey was rejected.

I also restricted the account to my IP address.

You are still a winning bidder.  If no additional bids come in for the next 15 days, you will have a share.  The only thing you don't have is a guarantee that you cannot be outbid.

Criminal behavior

What is the crime?
Where is the jurisdiction?

I think civil cases allow you to receive damages.  At least in the one criminal case I was the most associated with, I could not seek damages and was told by the prosecutor that damages were a civil matter and his office was not allowed to offer help.

If there is a lawsuit, my impression is that it should be a civil matter.  It is also my impression that you should be able to state what you desire as an outcome and it has to be something that the court can grant or you are wasting your time dreaming about it.

I think that the best shot that I have to see my money again is for Roman to get settled, gain some liquidity from a venture capital guy, and re-open his exchange.  My impression is that other people would like to thwart any efforts that he might make to operate an exchange.

Final auction results.  These 10 accounts each own 1 share (1%) of the Avalon's output.

Thank you for your work.
I really do not understand Avalon ... Would be so easy to get you at least a one module device
1. thx too  Smiley
2. best thing they could do to send you and/or kano only one module for free...
(IMHO)
Send 2 modules to him Smiley
I'm not sure why they say they wont do it ...

There are about 900 Avalons scheduled.  Proceeds of about BTC 0.1 from each one to the ckolivas Asic account would buy him one.  There is just as much reason for us to do that as there is for Avalon to do it.
1131  Economy / Exchanges / Re: bitfloor issues? on: May 27, 2013, 07:37:48 PM
Now he completely forgot about BitFloor and is just living a regular life. What crime can we call this? He owes us money and is just neglecting it...

At this point you wonder if he made a deal with someone.

Close up shop, and we won't prosecute you for anything bitcoin related. We want you shut down. Keep their money and we won't prosecute you criminally for it either. You can just take a few civil suits, declare bankruptcy and have a blast with all your cash.

That sounds pretty realistic based on the way he is holding everyone's money.

For the sake of argument, if we assume for the moment that Roman is an honest and trustworthy person who is legitimately interested in getting everyone's USD balances back to everyone . . .

I'm curious, what bank would allow you to open an account if you informed them that your plan was to deposit a single check in excess of $500,000 (could it be in excess of $1 million?), then split that balance up into many ACH transfers over the course of a few days, then close the account?

He's holding a check (a piece of paper IOU that has a dollar amount written on it) and somehow he needs to find a bank that will allow him to open a business account for a defunct business that will close it's account a few days latter?

I'm curious how he's going to solve this.
I'm willing to work with my bank to let this be deposited to an account, and dispensed according to his records.

Would you be willing to do this if there was a good possibility that the bank would be forced by FinCEN to close your accounts on you?

Are you sure that your bank would be willing to participate in this transaction?

I suggest talking with your bank, letting them know exactly what you intend to do, and why, and then if the bank is willing to cooperate and can assure you that your account will not be closed due to this activity, contact Roman and/or his lawyer.

I suspect you will find that your bank will not be as cooperative as you think they will.

Banks have a range of personalities, just as people do.  I know of at least two banks, one in Texas and one in Minnesota that have a lot of customers from Mexico.  They are accustomed to doing wire transfers and the like in an environment that surely has a paperwork burden.

Of course, I would speak with candor with the bank officers.  I might also ask for an opinion from the FinCEN people beforehand, an act that should give me substantial protection.

The risky thought that I have is not helping people return these funds, rather it is the thought of asking Roman to start the exchange back up after I have had some involvement, however brief, in it's activities.

For any of this to proceed, I would of course have to chat with Roman.

I am sure others would come forth with technical and administrative solutions as well, if we had information to work with.

1135  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: May 27, 2013, 03:45:52 PM
So I have completed 3 major rewrites of the avalon driver code to improve it. One was playground for testing things out and never really built, but I'm left with two different rewrites, and a question for existing users.

The first is a complete rewrite of the read/write mechanism using the existing serial usb driver (ftdi) which should be much more robust at staying in sync with results coming in from the device, as well as more accurately picking when the device is misbehaving and hopefully be more reliable at resetting it. This code is currently in a git branch called avalon-serialdev .

The second is an even more complete rewrite, built on the avalon-serialdev one with direct USB bypassing the ftdi driver entirely. The avalon does some weird and (not so) wonderful things to emulate running serial at 115200 baud, and the ftdi chip has some serious limitations I never would have known about had I not started poking around (for instance, the driver reads from the device every 1 millisecond because the buffer is so small it easily overflows). The modified code is more efficient and uses a lot less OS-kernel time but the demonstrable CPU usage of cgminer itself looks the same. This code works reliably and solidly... on a linux PC. This code is currently in a git branch called avalon-usbdev .

Now this is where it gets tricky. The direct USB code does not really work at all on the MIPS router that is built into the Avalon device itself. I'm not really sure if it's a libusb limitation, a different implementation or what, but it just does not work, and what does work appears extraordinarily slow. Only installing usbmon onto the device will tell me for sure, and that's not as trivial as I wish it were. We'll see how much time I get in the future to investigate this and whether it's even worth doing or not.

So down to my questions. How many avalon users here wish to be running them via a PC instead of as the standalone device it is? I suspect precious few. How many of you even want to be building your own binaries versus the number downloading the latest firmware? It would be possible to release a new version of cgminer that has both drivers but that will become a maintenance burden long term - and without having an avalon myself, it could end up going to bitrot. I've already made massive improvements to the serial usb based code and would be happy to push that alone into the next cgminer version and Xiangfu should be able to make you all new firmware with it.

I should add the Avalon team have made it clear they will not be providing me with a free Avalon outright to further development. Talks continue on that front...

Will SSH access to a retail TP-Link 703n, or even a (to be delivered Real Soon Now) Avalon help you?

one *good* post would be worth a lot more than 5 no-op posts like this one.

You could have made this one good.

I don't get it  Huh

Why do you make them worthless, instead of using the opportunity for a strong introduction?
1138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Multisignature and escrow on: May 26, 2013, 09:33:12 PM
I have 5  tBTC on the Bitcoin testnet.
I plan to explore the multi-signature capability, so that I have the experience.
I will want to decide if it is currently useful for escrow, or as an additional level of wallet protection.

I can probably do a lot of this individually, but the more the merrier.
