I don't see the problem with trusting the exchange as custodian of my coins for 12/24 hours (if I wanted to), if I already trust it as the custodian for instant exchanges. They still have the coins, only the period of time they are in possession of them changes. The main difference is in the amount of money they'll be holding for that time. The 24h volume now shows XMR 24212. If a transaction takes 10 minutes (let's take the average Bitcoin confirmation time for this), it means they hold on average XMR 168 (or the Bitcoin equivalent) of their customer's money. If you add a 12 hour waiting list, this amount very quickly goes up a lot. If there are no reserves for the coin I want, the exchange has to send back my deposit. I then have to deposit a second or third time if I am unlucky. That's throwing away money on fees. That's a good point.

So basically the problem lies around the fact that SMF has had its limitations brought about by the passage of time and it being an ancient forum-providing system, and not necessarily about the unwillingness of the developers (no offence meant) to create such feature? Not really. Think of the forum as Bitcoin Core: it provides the basic functionality, and nothing more. Any user can build applications on top of it. If for example Electrum breaks something, Bitcoin Core still keeps running. It's the same on the forum.

Throughout my whole life I have always thought that if you "vouch" for someone, then you are telling people that you trust that person. You also agree to take responsibility for that persons actions. In my proxyban topic, a "vouch" basically means: "I think this guy is not a shitposting spammer". Now to my question. If you "vouch" for someone that they are trustworthy and they take a loan, is the person who vouched putting their reputation on the line? If you didn't trust a person to repay, why would you "vouch" for them? In Dutch, that would be "garant staan", which Google Translate turns into "guarantee". "Vouch" is "instaan" in Dutch, which boils down to the same thing. I looked up the Dutch meaning to see if there would be subtle differences. So I think you're right: vouching for someone means it becomes your personal obligation to make sure whatever he does gets paid. But I also think the word "vouch" is being used lightly online. That being said, I would never vouch for anyone ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Money can destroy friendships and family parties. I'd vouch for my kids though, if they fuck up I'm liable anyway. if you trust the person, why you didn't lend your money? I feel like if you didn't want to lend your money, it means you're not completely trust the person. Good point. Who would vouch for me if I take a $1000 loan? It's pointless: if you'd vouch for me, you could just as well give me the loan yourself. At least that way you'll earn the profit that comes with the risk.

EU wants to ban Bitcoin? They would have done it already if they could. If my memory serves me well, we have an ATH in euro, but not yet in dollars. The euro is an even worse shitcoin than the dollar ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

I have dropped the transaction on Mycelium countless times, and every time it reappears after an hour or so. This has happened to me on several previous Mycelium transactions, but it has never continued for months like in this case. That's why I suggested to make a new transaction (after dropping it). If it uses the same input, the old transaction should be replaced. That's basically the same you'd be doing with Electrum too.
|
|

I sent the transaction from the Mycelium wallet This happened to me too once. It's been a while, but I think Mycelium keeps broadcasting the transaction, and after a while gives you the option to drop it. And in my case it also picked it up again after that. So see if you can drop it, then make a new transaction with higher fee. having them stuck is a way of bolstering my resolve to hodl That's working out really well for you given the current Bitcoin price ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

2. Could you create a waiting list for swaps that users could opt in for if they wanted? For example, there is no XMR left, but I opt in to be placed on a waiting list for x amount of hours. I deposit the coin I wish to swap for XMR and then I wait to see if the reserves will fill up? When they do, I get my XMR 2/6/12/x hours later if my turn comes. What you're looking for is a "normal" exchange, where buyers and sellers fill the order book. Orders happen when buyers and sellers "overlap". There could be a market for a trusted non-KYC exchange for Monero. That may lead to a higher price. If it's sold out most of the time, I'd say the price is too low.

In general, anything that can be done external from the forum should be done external from the forum. It's less convenient, but also less work for Admin and for sure doesn't introduce other complications on the forum. I've seen some of theymos' upgrades that had "side effects".

To me it looks like your blockchain data files are corrupted from a certain point on. Agreed. The PC is a Dell with an SSD 240GB and HDD 4TB. Both partitions DataD and DataE are on the HDD, 2TB each. Bitcoin is on DataE with the whole blockchain. Last week, after a request from Fedora 38, I proceeded with a system update. The Fedora update went well and rebooted my machine. Now Fedora 39. Right after the reboot the whole 4TB drive, both partition were invisible. It sounds like you somehow messed up your file system, and/or your drive is failing. This is what I would do: backup all data from the 4 TB drive you want to keep. Anyone should always have backups ready, but I'll mention it anyway. Backup your wallet.dat files (do it again, even though you should have several backups). And just in case, make another backup on another (brand) USB stick. Test the disk. Start with the SMART status, and run a disk test. If you're more familiar with Windows, you could format it into a Windows format and test the drive there. If it passes all tests, restart your blockchain download. Put chainstate on the SSD and use as much dbcache as you can spare. Depending on specs it can take less than a day up to many weeks. If the disk fails any tests, replace it.

My Unstoppable wallet "forgot" it's Litecoin data today. It had to restart syncing from 2014. I use Tor and "Slow, Private" Blockchain settings, and it takes hours and several GB of data. It's still running, and uses a lot of power. I had to connect the charger because of the battery consumption (my phone has been warm for hours). I don't know what caused this.

Nova days free slots always available. What's "Nova days"? I can't find anything useful, but I'm hoping it's an accelerator I don't know yet. The only workaround so far is to create a fresh account Only one acceleration per account still beats being overrun by Ordinal spammers who make it impossible to use.

In USD value it didn't drop much, but with BTC surging it sure looks like it's performing poorly. This applies to many altcoins. And the tricky part is it may even look like altcoins are gaining against Bitcoin when Bitcoin's market cap drops, but that's ignoring the share of stable coins and brand new hyped altcoins. Coinmarketcap.com used to show a graph of the altcoin against both USD and Bitcoin, but nowadays the default is only USD. That makes the long-term drop against Bitoin less obvious.

Do you even want the transaction to confirm? In 2 months, Bitcoin's value went up a lot. So depending on what you're paying for, you may be paying too much now. It could also be the service canceled your order by now. Your transaction even pays less than the Purging limit (currently 6.00 sat/vbyte). RBF shouldn't even matter, but it will depend on the wallet you used.

Those who have taken everything except privacy coins are pretty much in the green ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Unfortunately XMR isn't helping much at the moment from a speculative point of view lol I didn't expect to be in the green: What's up with Doge?

I saw this doesn't work anymore, and didn't want to post on the local board. My (donated) AWS server is now using Cloudfront (since a DDoS-attack a while ago), so I guess that could the reason. If you have any idea what I can do to fix this, I'll try ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

I need to look into what you meant by numerical sort, in terms of possible commands. In sort, it's this: -n, --numeric-sort compare according to string numerical value If you're going to move your code to Linux anyway, maybe it helps. I'm really surprised the datetime module doesn't return double digit hours, days, months, all that stuff. Isn't that an option you can toggle?
|
|

Okay. Nobody told me this bloody machine can't even count. You tell it to load numbered files in order and it goes, 1, 10, 11-19, 2, 20, 21... ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Lol. Been there, done that ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) It's not counting, it's sorting. Easy fix: use leading zeros, or numerical sort.
