THEN, my hard drive failed and I lost access to my Skype ID and lost these new Skype contacts. Hard drives rarely fail completely and without warning. Have you tried any methods of recovering the data off of there? I stared at it for a while and called it an asshole, but it still didn't work. There's absolutely no noise coming from it though, no loose parts, which makes me think that even if I did get a pro company to recover it, it would more likely be at the low end of the range, more like $500. Possibly just bad circuit board or something like that. I've actually decided to take it in to one of these companies tomorrow for a free quote, along with several others that I've collected over the years. Hopefully they'll give me a bulk discount.

Their games are totally freeware? That's gotta be worth a few coins... Looks fun thanks!
I downloaded and installed a game but it had no 'quit' feature. I tried every key combo I could think of including Escape, Alt-F4, but it would only let me play, never quit. So I had to end it using taskmanager (where I saw it was taking up 300mb for a Mario game). After that I decided to uninstall it and found it came with no uninstall program or shortcut, so I had to go via Control Panel, Add/Remove. I want my 2 btc back.

So what would I have to do to get onto this list, or am I deemed disreputable?
Step 1. Convince someone to send you a large wad of cash. Step 2. Send them some bitcoins. HA HA ... OK ... thanks, I only deal in bitcoin so not interested but thanks. I thought this was about reputable bitcoin dealings, being honorable in your product/services, keeping your word etc. not Fiat crap. Useless list for me then but thanks. It's both. Purchasing USD is no different to purchasing any other merchandise.

can't you recover your skype password?
Yes it's technically possible if I follow these steps: Step 1. Pay $2400 to a hard drive recovery company to retrieve my data. Step 2. Look at my skype password. Seriously, I did try password recovery but couldn't because I no longer have access to the email address which I used to sign up to Skype, and the reason I don't have access to that particular email address any more is because... my hard drive failed. I back up a lot of stuff (95% of it usually), but got caught out this time by the last 5% that wasn't. I'm thinking that this person I'm looking for might have been 'error'... I'll PM him

Anonymity is hugely valuable if governments ever try to crush BTC, though. Can someone point me to the wiki page which lists Bitcoin myths? I'm sure there was one somewhere. I need to add a section about Bitcoin being 'anonymous'. It might not be anonymous by it's self but it can be used anonymously. It's a hell of a lot easier to hide than a credit card. I agree. But there are very specific things you need to do in order to protect your anonymity while using Bitcoin. I think it's dangerous to tell newbies Bitcoin is 'an anonymous currency' and have them trot off to silk road with their first paycheck.

Did I ask you to scrape a site for me last week via Skype?
...
Last week I posted an ad for developers and met around 5 or 6 new people who each started working on different projects for me.
THEN, my hard drive failed and I lost access to my Skype ID and lost these new Skype contacts.
One of these people (sorry can't remember which of you it was), was asked to do a site scrape, to pull down certain files off a certain site.
If that was YOU please get in touch again via PM as I have lost my old Skype ID, thanks.

I've just asked GetUp, one of the biggest activist/protest groups in Australia: https://www.getup.org.au/donate/I don't agree with many of their campaigns (although occasionally they get it right, like with internet censorship laws), but still think they're a good candidate for bitcoin acceptance.

So in order to ensure easy tracking I should send the entire amount as one transaction to a brand-new empty wallet, then from there use that wallet to purchase the entries. Then they'd all come from exactly the same address. Uh... except for the 'change' issue. By the way, the exercise is purely academic. I'm more than happy for anyone to 'steal' my idea if they think they can do a better job. Meanwhile I'll keep working on improving it

In Bitcoin GUI open the Address Book. In the receiving Tab select the address. (You'll notice that the 'Your Bitcoin address" text box changes to whatever you highlight. Send the money. AFAIK as long as the funds are actually there it will use the account listed. If there is not enough it takes from other accounts.
It doesn't work like that. The money is sent from arbitrary addresses. Thanks I didn't know that, I thought the client always just used the oldest or smallest addresses first Interesting idea! The name makes me a little nervous though. Makes me think of partner or something. Maybe "lottery pool".
Also by the way, the word 'syndicate' is common usage where I'm from, Australia, and "Lottery syndicate" is listed as an example for the word on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndicate

- It's likely a different address will be used to pay for the entries, because I don't know how to control what address

if the money were doubled and distributed equally, not proportionally Ah, I messed that up, sorry. Definitely nothing fair about equal distribution though. Why not? Is unequal distribution more fair? Most definitely, yes. When in your example Ben B distributed equally, he stole a little bit of Alice's and Bob's purchasing power (their money), to keep for himself. If he had distributed unequally in a proportional manner, he wouldn't have taken anything from anyone. Then what is the point of inflating when nothing changes except store owners have to spend extra time figuring out new prices every month? Exactly! There's no point whatsoever in printing new money unless it is being used as a taxing mechanism.

-the operator of the pool should have some type of system to keep track of what was donated/spent and verifying it (if relying on the Bitcoin network, no one can use online access accounts -you must run Bitcoin yourself) -if you are using the Bitcoin network (eg viewer. Blockexplorer.com) to track the purchases make sure the operator of the pool spends the pooled money using the same address or you will have no idea if your pool won and they could keep the winnings without knowledge -if a different account is used to make the BitLotto payments make sure the pool operator tells you the entries BEFORE the draw -the trust is between you and the pool operator. BitLotto's obligation is to only pay whoever paid the entries. It is up to the operator now to pay the pool It would probably be a good idea to buy the tickets as the funds are available as apposed to waiting till the end.
Thanks for the comments. - I have already mentioned you need to use your own wallet. - I will be using blockexplorer to track deposits. - It's likely a different address will be used to pay for the entries, because I don't know how to control what address the default client pays from, however, - I will list the address here before the draw. - And I'll take your suggestion on board and pay for entries as funds come in (but still close it May 1st).

Agents are willing to not be anonymous. User may want to remain anonymous.
Anyone willing to call themselves an 'agent' will probably have to implement KYC rules or get in trouble for letting their users trade anonymously. It might work in some countries.

Have any of the suggested improvements in this thread been implemented (since December 2010)?
Is the site still operational?

For every USD 1000 you invest, you will be paid 12 x USD 114 Well see the point that I was probably trying to get to with an all USD deal, is why would you pay out such a massive amount in interest, when you could just get $1000 on a credit card at 16% p.a. to fund your mining?
