1341  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Best Exchanges for US Customer To Buy/Sell Crypto to US Bank Account? on: December 29, 2020, 06:22:57 AM
And what about bittrex US and binance US?  Do they allow you to directly cashout to your US bank account?  I recall back then when i used bittrex when im out of the US... i dont believe you could cash out to your us bank account because well bittrex was like a buy/sell altcoin site.  And if you had btc and sold it... you only got usdt... which apparently could not be sent to your bank account.  What about now?  I assume the bittrex US site allows that now?  Or basically you use it to buy alts... then when you cash out to your US bank account, you then just sell the alt for btc... then send the btc to coinbase/gemini/ etc to cash out to US bank account?

Same with binance US.  How is it with that?  I got to assume these US bittrex and binance... they allow ach transfer to your US bank account like coinbase/gemini etc?

Also do all of these sites send you a 1099 at the end of the year if you do a certain amount of transactions?  I have no issue with this... but obviously it wouldn't look good if you do say 50k in transactions and say have little profit or no profit and then the 1099 looks like you made 50k when essentially you were just moving the coins.  And since they have no idea how much you bought it at and then sold it to them... then obviously it might look like you had lot of income when you didn't.

But any of the sites i listed...  do not give 1099?  Or is it 1099-k?

So because of what i heard with coinbase... Im not a fan of it.  But then again, wouldn't all the other sites do the same thing and count it as transactions?  If so, then i guess going with any of the sites would be fine?  Main issue is getting money back to my US bank account while abroad.  And circle worked great for me.
1342  Economy / Exchanges / Best Exchanges for US Customer To Buy/Sell Crypto to US Bank Account? on: December 29, 2020, 06:16:47 AM
So I"m an American but i'm also outside the US majority of the year.  Thus you can pretty much call me an ex pat so to speak.  Now I like to be able to sell btc and have it sent to my US bank account.  I use bank of america if that matters.  Previously a while back, I sold some tiny amount of btc on circle when they allowed you to sell btc... and i recalled the ach transfer hit my bank of america in a few days.  But a little while after that, circle no longer allowed selling of btc for usd anymore.  And ach transfer is free.

Now I know the options out there seem to be.

coinbase/coinbase pro

gemini

kraken

bitstamp

For altcoins its..

bittrex US

binance US

Would you say this list is correct?  Now because im outside the US, i do have an account on binance.com international site.  So i have bought altcoins there.  But could i actually buy/sell btc or coins with a us bank account on the binance international site?  Thus imagine selling btc on binance for usdt... then transferring it to my us bank account?  Or is that not allowed?  Or if it is... is it only wire or option of ACH?  I know wire is more expensive.

I wanted to use gemini but the issue is they require me to have a US SMS phone number as a two factor authorization.  I do have a US google voice number though and they don't accept it so I can't use gemini.

Coinbase however, does allow me to use my google voice number.  So i could use them.  But i heard avoid coinbase because there are so many issues with it... especially when they send you a tax document even if you hit a certain amount in transactions... even if that is not profit.  Is that still true?  Recall someone getting a 1099 for over 100k... but that wasn't their profit... it was just total amount of transactions when their profit might been only a few grand.

Bitstamp i heard is good option for US customers especially if they are abroad.  But someone said they don't allow you to withdraw via ACH... only wire.  So the fees are much more expensive.

Kraken i heard of.  But is this mainly a US exchange or world wide exchange?  Do they do ach or only wire?

Anyone have experience on this?  Like to make everything simple... imagine wanting to sell 1000 dollars worth of btc so you can get that money into your US bank account.  Which option is most cheapest to most expensive on this list?  And are there any other exchanges you recommend for people wanting to cashout for US bank account?
1343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Earning Interest and Staking? on: December 28, 2020, 11:09:23 PM
Update on this?  I see there is usdn staking.  It shows you could make more than 8 percent.  But this amount constant or it always changes?

Like for example anyone here took say thousand dollars and staked it entire year?

So say you buy thousand dollar worth of waves... then staked them with usdn.  So how does that work?  You basically sell your waves for usdn right?

Then say with around a thousand usdn... forget the fees to buy waves... then if you leave it staked for an entire year... you will make 80 dollars on thousand dollar worth of usdn a year?  That sounds too easy and doesn't make sense.  But that number changes daily?  So how much percentage do you reasonably get a year then if you put thousand or ten thousand dollars into it and stake the usdn?

Because if you could get 5 percent.... well thats 500 dollars if you have ten thousand dollars.  Then once you have l0500 dollars, then you would convert it to usdt right?  But do you first need to sell it for waves... then sell it for usdt?

The thing is when you stake waves... sure you get some waves every week.  But if waves price drops... you aren't making any money etc.  So can someone explain the usdn staking?  Seems way too good to be true.
1344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best Way to Carry Your Seed When Traveling Or Moving Abroad? on: December 28, 2020, 10:58:54 PM
Now i think a good solution is leave your seed in a safe deposit box... but do it at two different banks.  Thus your seed would have half the seed in one bank, and half in another.

But what happens when you leave the state and move to another state or another country?  Well obviously you are going to bring your seed with you since you won't go to that bank anymore.  I mean you going to have you seed written a few times broken in pieces and in your wallet during your entire trip?

So I always felt like storing your seed online was a safe way as long as you encrypt it.  Thus imagine you type your seed in a program like lastpass or keepass... then upload it to the cloud like dropbox or google drive.  So in order to access it... you need your google or dropbox email password.... then you need your lastpass/keepass password in order to access it.  So that way, you don't have to worry about anything physical happening... since you store it digitally.

But of course you risk getting hacked as I read so many cases of people putting their seed online in like facebook or wordpad and not encrypt it.  And of course just typing it in their email and saving it as a word document where there is no protection against it if your email get hacked.  But if you encrypt it the way i described... would that be safe?  That way... you dont need to worry about breakins, fires, natural disasters happening etc?

I gotta wonder how some of you travel or move when you do this especially if you are leaving your state or country where you need to fly.
1345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best Way to Carry Your Seed When Traveling Or Moving Abroad? on: December 28, 2020, 10:58:43 PM
So I'm from the US.  But i travel quite a bit and am outside the US majority of the time.  My seed is stored online.   I do have my hardware wallet nano ledger s with me though.  Now I didn't want to bring my seed with me when traveling because well imagine something happens at customs and my bags get searched... well what if customs search through my stuff and then see a paper with my seed.  And of course there is a chance they know what it is and can write it down etc.  I heard many examples of those workers stealing from luggage, so imagine a search and then they see piece of paper and its words and they know what crypto is.  But that is rare of course.

But when i travel abroad, I don't want to have my seed in the apartment as I don't think that is safe.  Where im located, there is lot of breakins... thats how it is here.  Thief would take electronics and wallet etc.  Doesn't matter what neighborhood you are in... its like this here and very common.  So people that say move... well most places are like this.  Even places that has security.  And because of this, i left my seed back in the US.  I mean look even in those rich places in california, you have breakins etc.

Now what I'm curious is for those of you who travel or move... how do you bring your seed with you?  Obviously if you are moving to somewhere else in the same state, well you can drive there with it so no big deal.  But what if you are traveling from say florida to los angeles?  Or florida all the way to canada or europe?  I mean having the seed with you written on a piece of paper when traveling when flying got to make you all nervous right?

1346  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Sending Bigger Amounts of BTC on: December 28, 2020, 10:41:31 PM
Hey all.  I'm curious but to those of you with a good amount of btc... do you ever feel nervous when sending btc from your hardware wallet?  Whether its to coinbase, gemini or an exchange or to a site or someone with concern something might go wrong?

When i send btc, i have to make sure the address is correct... triple check it many times before i click send.  Obviously everyone should be doing this.  But if you make a mistake somehow with a letter off or accidentally deleted a character like m and put n instead... yes i know you should be copying/pasting the seed and never type it.... but obviously it could somehow happen if you accidentally type in an extra letter or deleted a letter by accident and replaced it by another character... what typically happens?

I heard the odds of it being sent to another address was almost impossible... is that correct or not?  Like could you be off a character... and that btc address is actually a btc address?  Thus you woulda sent btc to someone else by accident?

But the biggest thing here i say is if you are sending big amounts.  With how much btc price has gotten, im sure if someone here sends half a btc or one btc... they are very careful right?  Even sending ten percent of a btc is a ton of money nowadays.  Like how do ppl who have lot of btc feel when they are about to send btc?  Im trying to imagine how someone feels when say they are sending 5 btc from their wallet to another wallet etc.

Obviously when you deal with big amounts, besides being very careful the address is right and the amount is correct... is make sure you are sending it with the recommended sending fee right?  I can't imagine someone sending something like 5 btc... then pay like the minimum sending fee on their nano ledger s?

I'm guessing the other thing you can do to make sure is whoever you are sending btc to... whether coinbase or exchange or someone or a site and doing a big amount... first send like a tiny test deposit first to make sure it works... before you send the whole thing the second time?
1347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are current sending fees of btc? on: December 28, 2020, 10:32:59 PM
I haven't sent a btc in a long time.  I use to use electrum... then used nano ledger s.  With electrum, back when btc was in three figures, i recall playing around with the sending fee where you could send btc for a few cents... or even 0 cents.  But also did send using the regular fee.  With nano ledger s, i always recall sending with the default sending fee.

As of now, what are the default sending btc fee?  I did recall the higher amount of btc you send... the higher was the price.
1348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are your Bitcoins safe? on: December 28, 2020, 10:30:27 PM
I mentioned this many times... but isn't still the safest way to store you seed be ... put it in a bank safety deposit box?  But do it at two different separate banks with the seed in half?

Or do it with say four banks... and break the seed into two and thus you have two copies of each in case?
1349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Youtube Scam? on: December 28, 2020, 10:25:28 PM
So when im watching some bitcoin videos on youtube... doesn't matter what it is... could be about bitcoin or cnbc talking about bitcoin, i see in the comments section, people making comments like

btc is the future

i made a ton of money investing in btc with so and so person

then you see someone post someones whatsapp or phone number and say contact this person if you want to make money

telegram

how btc is better than stocks

First off, all these comments are from people or are they bots?  I notice even on twitter when it comes to politics, you see these accounts post comments where it sounds like a bot... then you see other users who post the same exact thing.

I assume the scam here is you then contact that persons whatsapp or phone or telegram, then they ask you for money... then you get scammed?
1350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful From Telegram Fraud on: December 28, 2020, 10:22:27 PM
Is this related to those youtube scam where a btc video shows... and tons of users then comment on how they make money and then someone post contact this persons phone number or whatsapp?
1351  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Receiving Address on: December 28, 2020, 10:18:22 PM
I didn't know nano ledger s... gives you a new receiving address each time a receiving address is used.  When i used electrum, i recall i used the same receiving address many times.  So that is how nano ledger s is different from electrum?

Also with the talk about the sending fees and inputs... you could still make the sending fee what you want.  So even with those inputs, couldn't you send btc and pay a low fee still with nano ledger s?

I recalled a while back, i used electrum and made my sending fee either 0 or like a few cents... of course this was when btc was in the three figures i believe.

But you cannot send btc for free now right with nano ledger s?  I recall with electrum, i used that bitcoin accelerator site to make it go faster etc.

But right now what is the minimum usd amount it seem to cost right now if you send btc?
1352  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: December 28, 2020, 10:12:51 PM
Has anyone here clicked on the link that those scam/spam emails posted and if so, what is it?  Is it malware/keylogger or is it something else?  Like asking you to type your seed?  Could you lose your coins just clicking on those links?  Read about chrome extension and how someone got their coins stolen in it... when they used a hardware wallet... but it wasn't ledger or trezor.
You can't lose your coins from a Ledger (or other hardware wallets) simply by clicking on a link... That is the entire purpose of hardware wallets. You would need to have the device connected and explicitly authorise a transaction on the device itself to send a transaction, and the private keys/seeds are shielded from external applications.

The simple answer is that it doesn't matter what the link goes to (be it a fake version of Ledger Live, keylogger or a website asking for your 24 words), you simply should NOT click on it... it's obviously fake and a poor attempt to try and steal your coins.

I saw this post on someone using a hardware wallet called keepkey and used a malicious chrome extension through google...

So what happened here then? This person typed in his keepkey seed?  Again i don't know of any hardware wallets besides nano ledger and trezor... but this guy mentioned he used a hardware wallet.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5255282.0;all

Yea obviously you should not click on whatever link is in the email.  But i got to assume it has to be malware/keylogger at least right?  I can't imagine a hacker putting a link and you only get screwed if you actually type in your seed.  I mean... wouldn't they make it malware/keylogger as well so then they can get into your email or say keepass/lastpass and thus they find your seed somewhere there?

Also i assume the safe way to find out if a link has malware/keylogger or any malicious would be use a separate computer that uses linux or chromebook then?  Or even if you use a windows computer, make sure its like a throwaway computer or a testing computer so to speak... to see what it is?  I recall i saw some youtube video where a guy intentionally click on malware/virus/keylogger links to see what it did to their computer... and they used a virtual machine for that.

So someone installing a virtual machine or using linux/chromebook could possibly test this all out without risk to their main computer?  But would there be any danger to their internet though?
1353  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Bitcoin Confirmations Question on: December 28, 2020, 10:00:16 PM
Hey hcp... well right now im only using the nano ledger s now... haven't used electrum in a while.

What i did notice earlier was when i check ledger live... the amount that is shown as received in USD under the btc received... is the same as yesterday.  But the day before that... it kept changing all day.

So it makes sense that with ledger live... after a day or so... the amount you received in price so to speak... that doesn't change in ledger live anymore right?  And yea i know when you receive it, its btc... not the amount ... you assign the amount... but how do you know the exact price you received it then for tax purposes?  Like do you count it as the moment it showed in your wallet even when it has 0 confirmations?  Or three confirmations?  Because even with 0 confirmations... you could still send that btc to someone else right?  I recall electrum you could do this a while back.

Another question i have is this.

I heard of that double spending with btc.  So if someone sends me btc and say i send them cash or online funds... how do i make sure that transaction won't get double spend?  Imagine someone send me btc... it shows in my ledger live wallet but shows 0 confirmations... let say its a thousand dollars to make it simple.  How long do i need to wait... or how many confirmations do i need... before i send them a thousand dollars to be safe?  Because i heard of cases where someone send btc to someone in exchange for wire transfer/cash ... but because of double spend... the receiver never gets the btc as transaction never gets confirmed... and they are out cash.  How do you counter against that?  Do you look at the transaction fee that person paid for the transfer or how?

1354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 5 best staking coins? on: December 28, 2020, 09:50:54 PM
Saw a video on youtube but not exactly full video and someone said they were making 60 dollars a day staking energi.  So its almost close to two grand a month.

At the time, it was over three dollars for that coin the price... now i check on coinmarket cap its only dollar fifty cents.  So basically buying this coin and staking it... is a losing proposition right since you lost half the way already and it being staked coin won't make it up?

I also have waves coins.  And in their wallet, the allow staking which gives you some waves every week.  But of course there is risk if you want to buy waves and stake it as say you buy it for 6 dollars and stake them... well sure every week you get money from staking... but you would lose money if waves price drops.  But they also have something else in staking with usdt or something else which gives you a big percentage.  Thoughts on this?

Now are there any staking coins where its risk free?  Such as its risk free because you convert the staking coin into tether or usdt somehow or some coin where it stays the same?

Or there isn't anything like that?  Because say you have ten grand to buy a coin... then stake it... if you get 6 percent a year... thats 600 dollars... and it stays in that coin that doesn't change much in price like tether?
1355  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Ledger phishing mail targets individual users on: December 28, 2020, 09:39:10 PM
New day brings a new phishing surprise. This time the story is directed and brought to you by our dear Prince Shaon. Prince Shaon didn't put much thought to it so he simple wrote from a gmail account. Ohh, bless him. Our prince suggests we all download his 'additional wallet' so that our accounts don't get hacked. Noble of him indeed. Too bad he signed the email like the Ledger CEO did in the genuine emails that were sent to users.

I would have preferred a signature by Prince Shaon instead. Makes me sad looking at it this way Cry

Also how long could someone reverse a paypal payment?
1358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Withdrawing crypto from Binance on: December 26, 2020, 10:45:35 PM
If that is the case, wouldn't it mean btc fees are going to be a ton if btc price gets even higher?
1359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fees - top 3 best choices for lowest fees? on: December 26, 2020, 10:43:55 PM
Is electrum fees much lower than nano ledger s fees?  A while back irecalled i could even make no fee with electrum.  I no longer use electrum anymore.
