13801  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How does "balance" work in offline wallets? on: November 16, 2017, 07:44:39 PM
Most of the time, it doesn't.

A offline wallet is most of the time meant to sign your transactions. You create a watch-only wallet and use it to create transactions (since it's connected to the internet, you can see all inputs available to be spent), move the raw transaction to your offline pc, sign the transaction and broadcast it through a connected device. Or at least, that's exactly how I make use of my cold-storage setup.
13802  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How long does Electrum take to be usable? on: November 16, 2017, 04:27:10 PM
Hi, can anyone tell me if Electrum takes long to become ready for use, I have just waited 5+ days for Bitcoin Core to synchronise with the network. I know that Bitcoin Core (hereafter BCC) is a full node software, so I have been patient.
Electrum is a lightweight SPV wallet. So you can use it immediately after downloading it and it doesn't require you to download the whole Blockchain just like with Core.

Does the latest version as found at https://electrum.org/ work with TREZOR as a hardware wallet ?
Yes.
13803  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The No.1 Bitcoin Mixer! on: November 16, 2017, 03:41:08 PM
I recommend everybody to avoid this mixer at all cost.

It's a unknown mixer which I never heard of, claiming to be in the mixing business since 2015 (probably just bought this old domain from someone), but only has 2 posts in its blog and they are both from this month.

But what I find most strange is the amount of notifications of "x mixed Bitcoins", which are clearly fake. Checking the main.js[1] responsible for those notifications, you can see that those numbers are randomly generated and don't represent real users. Very shady...

13804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to use the BTG wallet > btgwallet.online? on: November 16, 2017, 03:36:25 PM
That's just an address generator - you can't create or broadcast transactions with it. To be able to spend your coins, you will need to import your private key in a compatible wallet - like those found in the Bitcoin Gold website[1]. You can somehow create a raw transaction and sign it with your private key in the Sign tab. But that's it.

13805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: claiming bch and btg / hardware wallets on: November 16, 2017, 03:18:06 PM
You can only claim your free BCH and BTG from the wallet you had Bitcoins before each fork. If you move your Bitcoins to a new wallet, there will be only BTC there.

Follow this guide to claim both coins from your old Mycelium wallet:

1. https://steemit.com/btc/@libert/step-by-step-guide-on-claiming-bitcoincash-from-mycellium-wallet-201783t112141477z
2. And then do the following to claim BTG: https://coinomi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29000016813-collecting-your-free-bitcoin-gold-btg-coins-with-coinomi

Also, are there hardware wallets that support all of the above currencies, and eth too?
Both Ledger Nano S and Trezor have support for BCH and ETH and will support Bitcoin Gold soon.
13806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction stuck - not able to increase fee on: November 16, 2017, 03:37:51 AM
Be careful with people asking something to confirm your transaction. Most of them will probably just submit your transaction in a free accelerator and scam you for money.

I just accelerated your transaction in Antpool's and ViaBTC's free accelerator, so just wait a little bit and your tx will eventually get through. I did the same for a user today (5 sat/byte transaction) and his tx got confirmed after a couple of hours.
13807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PLEASE HELP! I accidentally sent BCH to BTC paper wallet on: November 16, 2017, 02:51:16 AM
Don't worry. You haven't lose anything.

You can store both BTC and BCH in the same BTC/BCH address. You just need a compatible wallet to be able to spend each coin.

Sent BCH? Import your address in Electron Cash[1].
Sent BTC? Import your address in Electrum[2].

13808  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will my transaction never be confirmed? on: November 15, 2017, 07:58:43 PM
Hey thanks for that. 5.276 sat/B is not that low?  Why was the size of the transaction so large? 5,692 bytes ?
5 sat/byte is low as heck aswell. Bitcoinfees.earn.com estimates that the cheapest and fastest fee is 580 sat/byte.

Your transaction is that big because there are 19 inputs and 2 outputs. More inputs/outputs = more bytes.

You can check the formula here: https://coinour.com/index.php/how-to-predict-the-transaction-fees/

Edit: transaction confirmed!
13809  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will my transaction never be confirmed? on: November 15, 2017, 05:43:45 PM
I'm not sure why can't you RBF your transaction. But I believe that it will eventually get confirmed. Yesterday, I sent a transaction with 1 sat/byte and it's already confirmed.

I also submitted your transaction in Antpool's free accelerator.
13810  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum balance vs max amount able to send is way lower? on: November 15, 2017, 05:21:33 PM
You said you put the slider in the middle, but how much it's showing in the "Fee" field? It should be showing 0.0049BTC since you have 0.0333BTC and can only spend 0.0284BTC (0.0333 - 0.0284). Go to Tools -> Edit -> check "Edit fees manually". Now you can for example, move all the slider to the left and lower your fee a little bit and press "Max" again.

E.g: Electrum is suggesting me a fee of 435 sat/byte if I put the slider in the left, but that's extremely overpriced. I sent a transaction with a 1 sat/byte yesterday and it took only 1 day to get confirmed (I saved up ~$5).

This won't spend anything until you click sign. Post a screenshot of this here?
Until you click Broadcast*
13811  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Address Balance for Bitcoin Gold? on: November 15, 2017, 02:13:54 PM
1. I assume I can install the bitcoin gold wallet on the same PC as my Electrum wallet, correct?
Yes. You should be ok.

2. At bitcoingold.org there is a section saying "Check your address balance before block 491407".  Where do I find this address?
That's your Bitcoin address that may contain BTG. You can check to be sure there is something available to "redeem".

3. If I sweep my BTC from Electrum does the BTC remain there and only the BTC Gold is swept into the gold wallet?
I'm trying to understand what wallet are you talking about. Electrum is only for Bitcoin. If you spend your coins with Electrum, you will only spend Bitcoins. If you spend your BTG with a Bitcoin Gold wallet, only your BTG will be spent.
13812  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ConfirmTX.com's Free bitcoin transaction acceleration & New Block Notifications on: November 15, 2017, 12:04:24 AM
hello ive tried today your service..... but i only have 371 bytes transaction,,,, so it means that this is free??..😊thanks

Yes. Transactions up to 400 bytes can be accelerated for free. If it doesn't, you will redirected to a Coinpayments page to pay for the service.
13813  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to stake my address? on: November 14, 2017, 09:27:06 PM
Do you mean a stake address to provide the ownership over your account if anything happens?

Just choose any address you have control - or generate a vanity one (what most people do) -, and post it in this thread[1]. Then, you need it, just sign any message with your staked address to prove that the message it's coming from the real you.

[1] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

Yeah, I know that topic. All the searches of "How to stake a bitcoin address" lead me to that thread, which is only useful once you know how to do it. Anyways, you got any recommendations on what to use to sign a message and where to generate a vanity address? Also, I sign my message with the private key, right? And I give my public key?

Thanks for your help Tongue

Regards,
Trump
If you want a vanity address, use VanityGen[1].

How to generate your vanity addresss:
1. Download the binaries (https://github.com/downloads/samr7/vanitygen/vanitygen-0.22-win.zip);
2. Extract it in a folder, open the Command Line (cmd) in the folder and run "vanitygen.exe -v 1YOURPREFIX";
3. When it's over, it will print all the information you need, including the full address and private key.

How to sign the message (I suggest you to use Electrum):
1. Create a new wallet and select Standard Wallet -> Use public or private keys -> Paste your vanity address private key. You have imported your vanity address!
2. When you need to sign a message, go to Tools -> Sign/verify Message.
3. Write your message in the "Message" field and paste your Vanity Address in the "Address" field. Click "Sign".
4. Now copy the text that will appear in the "Signature" field.

Use this format when you want to post your signed message:

Result:
Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hello!

How are you?
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
1NinjabXd5znM5zgTcmxDVzH4w3nbaY16L
HGPaNpDQ+ct4RIsjC1PiEhHHkz2Rhotc6NytawzVTlP6Ywq4bxF1cCTcBFwRS1hUXeguYDN5QQ+qurfFFE5ZgiU=
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

If you have the money and patience, I would suggest you to go with the new Trezor T.
It's estimated to ship in January 2018 and it costs €149.

13816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin CASH sent from Hashnest but never arrived in wallet! on: November 14, 2017, 05:20:28 PM
-snip-
Can you manually try to change the the Electron Cash server? Not sure if that's possible, but since it's a Electrum fork there should be a option under Tools -> Network.

Or just try to create a new wallet file and restore it with your seed. If the transactions is already confirmed, the coins are there but your wallet "don't know about that".
13817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I lost everything, I lost my 5 BTC on: November 14, 2017, 03:16:27 PM
OP, you should have at least downloaded the source code of the "BTG wallet" and opened locally. You can find it in the bottom left part of the page.

What wallet were you using to keep your 5 BTC?
If you had read the thread:
[...] when I checked my blockchain.info wallet back [...]

is dangerous to use private keys for myetherwallet also?
No. Just don't fall for any phishing versions of the MEW wallet.
13818  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken Two-Factor Authentication---How to? on: November 14, 2017, 02:13:17 PM
I don't fully understand how two factor authentication works.

If I choose 2FA using google authentication, then does that mean tit will send me a passcode on my google  authentication app on my phone (which I haven't downloaded yet).

Does it tie to the google account associated with my gmail address on file with Kraken automatically?

Keep in mind that I log in with my desktop.
I wouldn't recommend you to use Google Authenticator since you can't easily backup your accounts with it and it's not tied to your gmail account. This means that if you lose your phone and you haven't saved the 2FA secret code, your 2FA accounts are gone. I suggest you to use a open source app like andOTP (the one I'm using) that allows you to backup your 2FA accounts.

Basically, when you want to login to your account, you will need to get your 2FA code from your phone and use it as an "additional password" (which is always different from time to time and it's only valid for one login session). This makes it very hard to lose your account to hackers, since they would need to breach your PC and phone at the same time.
13819  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BCH and BTC - Still a danger of replay attacks? on: November 14, 2017, 01:41:37 AM
Thanks Smiley

Hmm, the last point got me thinking, though… The coins are in a wallet on an airgapped computer, so I would have to either expose the key regardless, or install electron cash on that computer… Sigh. Bitcoin can bw hard sometimes. Talk about mass adoption…
You don't need to expose your keys. Electron Cash is a Electrum fork, so they both work exactly the same way. I guess that you can download the wallet, move it to a flashdrive and install in your airgapped computer. Then just do what you would do with any Bitcoin transaction: create a raw transaction, move it to the offline pc, sign it and broadcast it with your online pc.

"where even a $100 trade can be quite significant so they are willing to spend the time"

Isn't this somehow true? $100 may not be too much in first world countries such as the USA and most part of the rich countries from the Europe. But there are many "poor" countries where $100 can make a big difference in many people's life. That's why there are many people literally living from signature campaigns in this forum. If they are writing this, maybe it's because there are many scam cases coming from those low developed countries.
