14801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aug 1st and forward effect on current holdings on: May 31, 2017, 11:15:30 PM
Simple two questions, any advice as to whether to be concerned to either transfer the coins to a hard wallet from Coinbase prior to the Aug 1st or not really needed?
2nd, is this Aug 1st situation going to kill the value of Bitcoin?

As jonald said, I'm starting to believe there is no chance of UASF to succeed. It is much more likely that segwit2x is the winner solution.

Just make sure to keep your coins stored in a wallet you control the keys. That way, you are the one controlling your coins future in case of a possible chain split. More reasons to not hold your Bitcoins on a web wallet/exchange.
14802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tomorrow 31th May (Japan time) will open internet giant GMO Btc trading platform on: May 31, 2017, 09:54:25 PM
I am not sure where this news popped but a google search could not find any valid news regarding this,is it possible to provide some sort of link to verify this news so that i could make up my mind on what to do next and if this is true, the price of bitcoin can increase in the coming days.

http://www.newsbtc.com/2017/05/09/japanese-e-giant-will-launch-gmo-z-bitcoin-exchange-two-weeks/

Then they delayed one week:

Glad to hear so many good news about Bitcoin in Japan. Looks like my desire to travel to Japan does not stop growing and is not without reasons.
14803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THE BEST BITCOIN WALLET on: May 31, 2017, 06:05:23 PM
For a Filipino like me, coins.ph is the only wallet that suits for any bitcoin users in Philippines, it converts bitcoin into fiat then can withdraw it at atm even without a card, and most of all supported by many products and companies.
That is a good choice to use in a daily basis for payments and otber stuff like recharging your phone.
But you shouldn't store all your Bitcoins in a online wallet because there is always the risk of losing all your coins in case of a security breach. I suggest you to leave low amounts of BTC to spend when you need, and store the majority of your coins in a wallet like Electrum or Mycelium just for safety.
14804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any way to have cheap transactions now? on: May 31, 2017, 12:09:20 PM
The moment people in search of cheap payments forget what bitcoin is about...

You will save a few bucks and one day you will wake up and realize that poloniex is gone what all your coins due to a "hack".
Until the tx problem is fixed just stop doing micropayments if you can't afford to.
There is no magical solution or we would all be doing it

Maybe that's because OP is looking for a way to do transactions of low value? Do you think anyone moving +0.5BTC would be worried about paying fees? There is a huge difference between storing 0.005 BTC and 1 BTC on a exchange.

People should be allowed to do transactions of any amoumt without worrying about paying 50% of this value. in fees.
14805  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Doubling your Bitcoins?? Scam or real?? Your opinion on: May 31, 2017, 10:43:01 AM
I dont know whether someone has seen this or invested in this but is this for real??
No! This is just another ponzi scam made exclusively to steal peoples money. Or do you expect someone to give you 200% interest that easily? DO NOT "INVEST" OR YOU WILL GET ROBBED.

Does people put their money into these??
Yes they do. This site is adverting a way to earn 200% of the amount deposited in just 6 days and people want free and easy money without having to do some work. That's why those scam sites never stop appearing.

14807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins invades the smallest bit on: May 31, 2017, 01:07:47 AM
The best type of marketing is the word of mouth. If you want to spread in your city the word of bitcoin, you should go to local merchants and friends, explain them what bitcoin is, and what are the multiple advantages of using bitcoin that make it a currency to be invested for the future.

I learned that Bitcoin is relatively large in the Philippines (or I think it is), and you even have services like https://coins.ph that allows you to recharge mobile phones and pay bills with Bitcon. Show this to the people of your city and they will make sure to accept it. Only you can do that!
14808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: That day when Bitcoin hits $50.000.- on: May 30, 2017, 11:24:18 PM
Damn. It's better to leave my mark in here.

HELLO GUYS FROM THE FUTURE!

Also, why would you sell your Bitcoins when they are worth $50k if you can use them anywhere? As you said, every shop accepts bitcoin as a method of payment. No more selling "digital currencies" for the "real money" called Dollar. Bitcoin IS the real money. LONG LIVE BITCOIN!

Btw, imagine if in the future each Bitcoin are actually worth $1m each. We will be laughing about such low value you are predicting...
14809  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchange Question on converting to fiat on: May 30, 2017, 09:39:05 PM
If you are going to keep your money in an exchange consider the associated risks, you can end up losing your money.
That's not even what he's talking about. What he wants to do is easily sell his Bitcoin for USD when he thinks the price is falling too hard to avoid losts, and keep the amount in Dollar, so he can buy Bitcoin again when the price is good enought. This all using USDT as a middle man coin, so he doesn't need to transfer his money between a bank account and his exchange before doing any transaction.
14810  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paper wallet storage on: May 30, 2017, 08:30:33 PM
I think it's safe enought that way. The only problem is if you forget your password.
But if you want to forget about the paper for the long-term, I think you should only encrypt the information you are going to store in the cloud and leave the physical paper unencrypted if you can keep it safe.

Maybe store multiple copies in safe places like a bank.
14811  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: DTMF.io: anonymous mobile numbers in your browser & via API, Bitcoin payment on: May 30, 2017, 06:36:49 PM
Do you offer unique numbers per user or there is any chance someone could end using the same number I used before?
Also, is it possible to buy a unique number forever for a fixed price? Or you need to pay per day/week/month of usage?
14812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the risks/downsides of UASF on: May 30, 2017, 04:17:41 PM
Taken from one of luke's reddit post.

"If and only if BIP148 has minority hashrate support, there will be a chain split. Whether your node supports BIP148 or not, there is a risk that your economic counterparties (ie, people you want to pay and people you want to pay you) will be on the other side of the split. So long as nobody double-spends, this should be mostly okay for 100 blocks (about 16 hours); the only difference will be that transactions might confirm at different times. But if 100 blocks pass and miners begin spending their newly mined bitcoins (different on each side of the split), the chains' balances will begin to diverge, and transactions will become tied to one side or the other. There will be two "bitcoins"."

14813  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer - mixing reinvented on: May 30, 2017, 12:54:24 PM
'm having a little bit difficulty to memorize the name of the site Cheesy chipmixerwzxwtypxszw?
Is that some kind of code or just random letters added to make this look cool?
Well, that's the Tor link so it's supposed to be like that. If you want a easy url to access in the clearnet with your chrome you can use chipmixer.com
14814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The best way to explain ICO to critics & potential investors on: May 30, 2017, 10:59:46 AM
What do you mean? If the project is promising, well organized and made up of a good team then people will invest. And of course you also need to invest in marketing not only to show how serious the project is but also to attract investors.

What can not be expected is that people will invest on unnecessary projects or full of failures just because they have a whitepaper.

People probably only make investments to profit. Make this clear and explain why you project can grow.
14815  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BTC Price on the South Korean Market on: May 29, 2017, 10:21:19 PM
$2950.64 per coin? Too damn cheap for my taste.  Cool
Check out the price in one of the biggest exchanges in Brazil:

BitcoinToYou: $3074.75

And this is considering that the cryptocurrency public in Brazil is quite limited and that the chance of finding someone who messes with Bitcoin on the street is quite low. But the demand of Bitcoins here is always higher than the amount for sale, which makes the price rise almost 20% in comparison with other international exchanges. And it's always been that way.
14816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Long Does Physical BTC Wallets last? on: May 29, 2017, 08:47:00 PM
If you're talking about "physical' then you shouldn't mention usb stick.
But this kind of wallet:

http://cryptosteel.com/
or
https://bitkee.com/

will probably outlive you Smiley.
But how would you be sure they don't save your private key/seed before sending you this kind of product?
I think you should never use a wallet which key wasn't generated by you alone. It's the same as using a online vanity address generator.

You can never be sure about the safety of you coins.

IMO that's why a hardware wallet like Trezor and Ledger are still the best options to store BTC in a long-term, since you have exclusive access to your keys.

Edit: I see that with CryptoSteel you are the one inserting all the wallet info with your own hands. So this is another valid option to keep your Bitcoins safe.
14817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jihan/Ver, BIP148/UASF, r/bitcoin r/btc... how do I sift through the BS? on: May 29, 2017, 07:12:13 PM
/r/bitcoin is a a completely 100% proven censored cesspit and echo chamber. Stay away and you will not be so lost.
Does that mean Big Blocks are the right solution for the scalability problem? Because everything I see on /r/bitcoin is about how Segwit is the only solution and how Jihan and BU supporters are the bad guys.

On the other side, /r/btc is exactly the oposite. They criticize the Core team and say UASF will split and destroy Bitcoin.

Care to explain to me which side is the right one and why?
14818  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secalot, a hardware bitcoin wallet with extra features announcement. on: May 29, 2017, 01:11:51 PM
That actually looks awesome. Now that I'm actually back in the Bitcoin community, I am looking forward to buy a hardware wallet and this project has everything I ever wanted for an wallet. (Even the USB design)

Safe guarding my bitcoins + OTP? You can count on me for the crowdfunding!

Could you give us a price estimate on how much this is going to cost in an initial phase and when is the crowdfunding happening?

Bookmarking this thread. And please take the project forward!
14819  Economy / Speculation / Re: Time to buy? on: May 29, 2017, 12:55:26 PM
Just buy while you can. If you are a true bitcoiner and long time hodler, you won't regret when you see your balance.
Everytime you have doubt about buying or not, remember we are early birds and every investment will turn to profit.

And of course thats my opinion  Roll Eyes
If you care that much and want to try profiting as much as you can, Bitcoin correction is settling down, so yes anyway.
14820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIP148 question on: May 29, 2017, 01:35:38 AM
I don't think there is any website tracking the number of specifics nodes at real time on a scale of minutes.

Maybe this site is the closest you can get.
