141  Local / Pamilihan / Re: [Discussion] SEC (Draft) Rules on Cryptocurrency Exchanges on: January 27, 2020, 04:41:13 PM
I'm bumping this thread for some updates.

It looks like the draft rules are close to getting finalized

It's good that they are working on it as fast as possible. Kailangan na din maparusahan yung mga nanamantala gamit ang cryptocurrencies.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India Central Bank Says It Hasn’t Banned Crypto on: January 27, 2020, 04:20:21 PM
Do you want to say that India has the same plan as China - to introduce a national cryptocurrency and make it dominant over the rest of cryptocurrencies?
Please read my comment again. I was only saying that there are some articles[1] suggesting that India is planning to launch their own national cryptocurrency. And yes, just like what China is planning to do and what Venezuela did. I don't know about making it dominant over decentralized crypto such as bitcoin but it will most likely become the legal tender to be accepted by banks and other financial institutions.

143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On most altcoins disappearing on: January 27, 2020, 04:03:07 PM
We can  plausibly claim that Bitcoin would be far better off now if not for the huge pile of shitcoins that turned out outright scams at the end of the day. People wouldn't have lost their money in these schemes, and they wouldn't lose it if they invested it in Bitcoin instead. Simple and straightforward logic, right?
We would never know if bitcoin would still reach $20K and then drop back to $3K without those shitcoins. I don't think they were relevant enough to affect bitcoin and drag the price down to almost 90%. We can plausibly claim also that even if they invested in btc alone, they would have still lost.

Quote
In the same vein it is natural to assume that the death of the altcoin world would eventually do only good to Bitcoin in the long run as people won't be losing money anymore. So what d'ya think?
This is what a "bitcoin maximalist" would love to see. Without the competition brought by altcoins, it's possible that those who are in charge of bitcoin blockchain development wouldn't care about improving scalability and lessening fees since they have the monopoly. That wouldn't be good either.
144  Other / Meta / Re: [TelegramBot] Merit watcher and Mention Notification Bot on: January 27, 2020, 02:51:12 PM
But I haven't received a single notification after this. P.S: I was receiving merit notifications until January 17 (last message). And I have gotten a lot more merits since them.
January 17 was also the day when OP transferred to a new database. I think you have to register again to receive notifications. Refer to this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209107.msg53629978#msg53629978

146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Become an Owner of 1 BTC - Only the brave and courageous wins! on: January 26, 2020, 04:15:05 PM
Why not aim for .1 BTC first? Then .2? and so on and so forth.
Many people are bad savers and that is why some would advise to aim higher like 1 BTC since it's hard to achieve and will not be achieved most probably. Even if the person was able to save only 10% of the total goal, that's still 0.10 btc. If, at the beginning, the aim was saving 0.10 btc, a person could end up saving only 0.01 btc due to bad saving habits. I hope you get my point.

147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins Bounty Hunters are almost alone! on: January 26, 2020, 02:30:04 PM
But look at the altcoin section, no one is here to support you to find a better project, everyone keeps suggesting research yourself, even if your well researched successful project not paying you, still they won't support you! So, from yesterday, I started thinking that Altcoin bounty hunters are very alone! Some guy is working to catch scammers but no one is here to suggest you a better project!

Mate, I've been a bounty hunter myself and have experienced the same things hunters are compalining about now but what the heck is this? Are you seriously expecting someone else to think for you?

How do you expect members here who kept on saying that most new altcoins projects are either shits or scams to suggest a good one? The problem with many hunters today is that despite the many warnings, they turn a blind eye and still continue to promote a project hoping it will bring them profits in the end. If that doesn't happen, they come here and complain. There are plenty of topics here guiding hunters how to select a campaign but none of them can guarantee you that it works all the time.

Another thing is that, everyone is free to visit the scam accusation and reputation boards to check whether the project they plan on promoting or currently promoting has been tagged as fake, yet many hunters are too lazy to search.

One more thing, don't you know that you can also create a flag against these campaigns that abuses bounty hunters? If you are not aware, read this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5165178

148  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to make rank-up more difficult on: January 25, 2020, 01:52:54 PM
The current ranking system (activity + merit) is working and if it ain't broken, then there is no need to fix it. Maybe you are on a momentum gaining merits after merits from the topics and posts that you are making but don't take them lightly.

If you haven't noticed it yet, there are plenty of users here posting how close they are to ranking up or how happy they are reaching a new rank. Some are good but most of them are clearly crying for merits.

I'm not really sure what you are trying to achieve here @OP. Maybe you also want merits for this post, maybe not. Making it harder to rank up will only cause more drama and we have seen plenty of that already. We don't want a #meritbrokemylife2.0

150  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Could the emergence of corona virus affect a country's adaptation of crypto? on: January 25, 2020, 01:21:49 PM
I find it hard to connect this corona virus with crypto. I'm curious how did you even come up with this.

Are fiats being blocked right now in quarantined areas? I get it that due to the situation in those areas, some banks and other financial institutions may be closed down but that doesn't necessarily affect the whole financial system. It makes no difference at this point whether the online payment system is with fiat or with crypto.
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Petchain ICO Is Scam? on: January 25, 2020, 12:50:11 PM
Other than inactive social media, their ANN's latest update was March 14, 2019 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5088687.msg50154573#msg50154573

I also visited their telegram channel and the name has been changed to "Crypto Community" so it is likely that the channel was sold to someone else.

I would assume that you promoted this Petchain before. As a lesson, always check the scam accusation board before deciding to join a campaign. 99% of the time, projects who put fake team in their website are scams (see the link shared by Damut for reference).

152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Casimero Bantamweight Unification Fight on: January 25, 2020, 12:29:32 PM
Not trying to be biased, but though it is a lot of fight, I don't think that it is necessary in this fight? They are both developed and experienced fighting a former champion. So, this might going to be a battle of boxing intelligence rather than experience and power alone.
How do you think boxers become smart or intelligent? They have their training with their coach and by using them in the ring. Nothing beats experience in teaching anyone a lesson and that 14 fights could have given Casimero more knowledge on how to handle different adversities in the ring.

It is true that Inoue has had a decent number of fights and the last one probably thought him a lot but we also have to consider that it is his debut in the US. I'm not saying that that will make him lose but who knows if fighting in a totally new place could affect him.

Decision: Casimero
TKO: Inoue
I don't think the fight will go the distance. Whoever wins, it will be by KO or TKO.
153  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Poll - How did you find out about Bitcointalk? on: January 24, 2020, 01:42:58 PM
For my story, airdrop campaigns brought me here. Almost all campaigns back in 2017 would require airdrop hunters to visit their bitcointalk thread and make constructive comment IIRC. Given that many of us were new back then, the constructive comments were more like spams  Cheesy It was not the best way to start but we all learn.

I have been reading the comments and noticed two different reasons from the same account.

How I am here?

I knew about bitcoin first, then the second one is Ethereum. I search (by Google, thanks for it) with Ethereum and Vitalik Buterin, and results of the search led me here, bitcointalk.org. I did not have any aims when I participated in the forum. At my first glance in the forum, and my first impression, the forum is very boring, texts, texts and texts, mostly texts. And the forum was abundant with thanks, hi, hello, one line posts some months since the day I participated in the forum. After some months, I realized that it was only short term shitshows as a consequence of altcoin booms in 2017.

Now, I am being here as a Senior member, with all of my 421 merits are earned by myself.

Thanks for the forum, the community, available topics, answers to my questions, and all admins, moderators, patrollers, you all helped me to get a lot of knowledge in crypto as well as security and privacy, that I believe I hardly get on any other forums.
I knew about the forum in 2017 when the guy I know on Facebook made his status about airdrops for old accounts. He is very famous in my local, so I created my account because of my curiosity (I knew he stated old accounts). One those days, I did not know too much about bitcoin, and crypto currency so that forum is helpful for me (I only felt it is helpful months later).

That is where I came from and joined the forum. I know you guys mostly don't want to see such boring stories but it is mine.

154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 12.5% Tax on Real Bitcoin on: January 24, 2020, 01:16:51 PM
It sends in me a chilling effect. I don't care about BCH and its future actually but looking at it as it is and trying to appreciate the facts surrounding the issue, it seems Jiang is doing Chinafication of BCH. His presentation of the future of BCH in terms of China and its GDP and Deng Xiaoping's "reform and opening-up policy" and how debate has to be curtailed so that things are done fast and strictly according to plan effectively erased any residue of decentralization and freedom in BCH that crypto should be promoting in the first place.

I wonder if Ver openly and willingly agreed to this or is he elbowed to agreement by all these Chinese?

Jiang amuses me calling the tax a donation. Last I heard donation is a gift given out of willingness. But why is it that the 5th part of the infrastructure there is a need to orphan any block that does not follow the plan. And all to "avoid a tragedy of the commons"? Says the totalitarian and ruling elite. For the commons, the commons are sacrificed. So very China!
Ironic right?  Cheesy

I bet Roger just nodded to the decision since all his previous attempts to discredit the only true BTCitcoin failed. Forcing a donation out of the miners is obviously a desperate move to revive the bitcoin cash ecosystem. Let's see how it pans out but I doubt that method will work for long term. Paying 12.5% for six months will surely become a burden for smaller miners.
155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Casimero Bantamweight Unification Fight on: January 24, 2020, 12:51:53 PM
I'm reading some what appears emotional comments from my countrymen here. Chill out and let's look at the match up more objectively  Cheesy

Thanks @GreatArkansas for posting their fight records. Looking at it now, Casimero's more experience in the ring could play a big part if he is going to win. Despite being only two years older, he has accumulated 14 more fights than Inoue. Oh boy, Inoue may be a huge favorite because of his undefeated record but he is facing a guy who is battle tested and has power.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India Central Bank Says It Hasn’t Banned Crypto on: January 24, 2020, 12:26:13 PM
Right. They did not ban the bitcoin transactions but they do not recognize it as a legal tender which makes it difficult for any holder to spend or convert them to fiat. According to some articles, a lot of exchanges there were forced to close down due to the pressure and unfavorable position of the government towards crypto. There were also reports that they are planning to launch a government-backed crypto and that's probably why they have all these restrictions.
157  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can you guys identify Whale move? on: January 24, 2020, 12:01:35 PM
As i am looking at bitcoin chart now, BTC price just soared little bit in a short time.
I would not say it soared. It's been downhill since going pass $9,000.

Quote
Btw, can anybody identify whale's move? If there is a way to see it, is there a tip for it?

The best way to know is when you personally know someone who can move the market. Some people are good at analyzing the charts but nobody can really determine when a pump is about to happen until it happens. A whale or whales could have been anyone with a deep pocket or any group working together.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 12.5% Tax on Real Bitcoin on: January 23, 2020, 04:21:10 PM
I read a similar topic in Altcoins board few minutes ago https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5220006

Such names as Jiang Zhuoer, Jihan Wu, and Haipo Yang are like creating a Communist Party of China (CPC) in the BCH community. And it sounds perfectly like a Chinese government with their follow-or-be-punished condition. The big brothers are here.
If you take a look at Jiang's blog, they came up with this decision after following Deng Xiao Ping's policies.

Cat philosophy: No matter white cat or black cat, a cat that catches rats is a good cat.
River philosophy:To cross the river by touching the stones.
Non-debate theory:Non-debate theory is my invention. Non-debate, is to gain time to work hard. When you debate, everything becomes more complicated and it wastes time. Nothing can be done. Don’t debate, and just try. Be brave and experiment.

They pretty much gave up the "decentralization" with that non-debate theory.

Are you sure about this? 12.5% is too much.
It is. But it looks like the BCH trio are ready to implement it in the next four months. Any miner who opposes can just leave, no more debating. They either donate for the further development of bitcoin cash or have their blocks be orphaned.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BCH: Miners should donate...or else on: January 23, 2020, 03:33:09 PM
Well what do you know, the "real bitcoin" needs to force its miners to donate for further development. The article says they have long debated over the matter and it is about time to implement. I wonder how many miners agree or disagree to the "donation"? I see that it is going to be a six-month trial period, I am not sure if it would even take that long for miners to leave and let Roger & Jihan look for private funding instead.

This graphic had be thrown off because it depicts FRANKIE EDGAR is playing but in fact he is not
Good eye. Frankie wasn't even on the card  Cheesy
Here's the updated image from the wikipedia link

There are so many unfamiliar names here. I think we are going to see another veteran beatings in the main card. Curtis and Michael should take advantage of this opporunity to get closer to that title. Does anyone know any exciting fighter in the preliminary card that is worth watching?
