1421  Other / Meta / Bitcoin.org Domain Ownership issues #2548 on: July 26, 2018, 04:33:22 AM
https://github.com/bitcoin-dot-org/bitcoin.org/issues/2548

Quote
This is a follow up regarding a discussion between @Cobra-Bitcoin and a number of individuals within the Bitcoin Core #UASF Slack channel.

The Problem: A number of individuals (including myself) feel that @Cobra-Bitcoin has become an unreliable person to own the Bitcoin.org domain name, mainly given his public support for BCH (as well as other things, but this is not supposed to be an attack on Cobra). We fear that Cobra:

May suddenly start propagandizing BCH as 'The Real Bitcoin' and re-purpose Bitcoin.org to promote BCH.
Sell the domain to someone else, who'd use it for malicious intent. The fact that he's only known only by his pseudonym would make this relatively easy and have no consequences for him whatsoever, there's only a lucrative upside for him.
I personally feel that one person, pseudonymous or not, should not have total control of the Bitcoin.org domain name, since it has too much importance within the community.

The Solution: The domain name should be placed in the hands of the community. The solutions which had been discussed in the Slack discussion were the following:

Cobra transfers the domain back to @theymos and therefore relinquishes his ability to perform either of the above two actions.
A select few veterans within the Bitcoin community would be chosen to form a non-profit, and the domain would then be transferred into this non-profit.
If option 2 were chosen, the community would have to decide which individuals to choose from. We do not want to end up in a Bitcoin Foundation (Vinny Lingham) scenario.

I would like to invite you to discuss the domain ownership issue at hand so we can resolve this accordingly. Please do let other people know of this so everyone can get a say in this.

He is also responsible for the bitcointalk.org domain.
1422  Other / Meta / Re: bitmover Merit Source Application - and thoughts on Brazilian Bitcoin Community on: July 26, 2018, 04:11:52 AM
I fully support this application. I believe that having more merits distributed in the Portuguese section will stimulate the creation of new great topics and posts. Especially unique topics that are not just translations. Moreover, @bitmover has already proved to be a user who constantly produces quality posts throughout the forum and only sends merits to those who really deserve it. We have two other applications of very dedicated people. I hope at least one is chosen.

Today, most of the Brazilian BTC community is, unfortunately, on Facebook. And we are in a constant effort to attract more quality users and companies. We also have a very successful subscription campaign that is exclusive to the Portuguese section
1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stellar to invest ? on: July 26, 2018, 03:43:27 AM
There are a lot of rumors about whether large companies might start using Stellar as a means of payment. I have Stellar and I do not intend to sell. But also, at the moment, I do not intend to buy. I think eventually it 'll be worth the double of Ripple, but not now.
1424  Economy / Trading Discussion / Uber Co-Founder and E*Trade Alum Launch No-Fee Cryptocurrency Trading on: July 25, 2018, 11:34:31 PM
More competition is coming to the commission-free cryptocurrency trading market. Voyager, a startup backed by an Uber co-founder as well as an early investor in the ride-hailing company, revealed plans Wednesday to offer no-fee trades of at least 15 different cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and others.

The company will function as a sort of aggregation engine for cryptocurrency prices across more than a dozen trading venues, allowing customers to buy and sell Bitcoin and other digital assets at the best value available among them. By waiving commission fees—the bread and butter of most cryptocurrency trading businesses—Voyager expects to compete with Robinhood, the stock trading app that also currently provides zero-free trading of five cryptocurrencies.

“We saw an opportunity to build a dynamic smart order router that can take advantage of the marketplace and also offer customers no commissions,” Voyager CEO Stephen Ehrlich tells Fortune. In lieu of trading fees, Voyager will make up the difference in revenue “by beating the average price of the coins at the point in time we execute the trade.”

By simultaneously connecting to and showing prices from 10 cryptocurrency exchanges plus three additional market makers—including those based in the U.S. as well as abroad—Voyager believes it can consistently execute buy and sell orders at better prices than customers would often get by just visiting one exchange, such as Coinbase or Binance.

“Sometimes you go to trade on a certain exchange, but there’s no liquidity there,” explains Ehrlich, the former CEO and founder of retail brokerage Lightspeed Financial who also previously ran the professional trading arm of online stock broker E*Trade after Lightspeed acquired it. Ehrlich says he became interested in cryptocurrency about a year ago, and now plans to bring his experience catering to both individual and professional investors in the traditional equity market to the crypto industry.

The startup’s other co-founders include Oscar Salazar, the founding architect and chief technology officer of Uber, who serves as Voyager’s main tech advisor as well as an investor in the company, which has so far raised “”significant capital” from only friends and family, Ehrlich says. Gaspard de Dreuzy, Voyager’s chief product officer, and board chairman Philip Eytan, an early Uber investor, are also co-founders.

Voyager is entering beta testing later this week, and aims to release its no-commission mobile trading app to the public by the end of October. It also plans to offer additional functionality for hedge funds and other institutional investors, as well as cryptocurrency news and analysis features in its mobile app to help regular investors make buying and selling decisions.

While the list of 15 digital currencies Voyager will trade is still being finalized, it will include the lion’s share of the top 25 most valuable cryptos on the market today, as listed by Coinmarketcap.com, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum Classic and others. “If you see it being traded today by some of the most prominent players, we will definitely have those plus some,” says Ehrlich, adding that Voyager is “leaning towards” listing certain other major cryptocurrencies, such as XRP and Stellar Lumens (which are not listed by major U.S. exchanges like Coinbase and Circle), but first must ensure that they can be stored securely.

1425  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-25]Rogue Employee Mined 500K Bitcoins in 2011 on: July 25, 2018, 10:29:25 PM
You had put up the wrong link source which I do end up on reading different thing on what you had given. https://www.coindesk.com/cftc-chair-says-regulator-is-behind-on-blockchain/
which is totally not related on the topic you had posted.

Reading or going back into that issue, only one question comes to my mind on what exchange that Rogue employee losses out that amount of bitcoin?
If he just able to hold up those coins even into this days then he might able to create his own company.

Sorry, I changed the link to the correct one.

He lost his resources trying to invest in a number of new cryptocurrency-related companies. It is not so unusual to fail with these companies. Since they often need to "burn" up many resources until they become profitable. But it is also very likely that he has used this as an excuse to escape the tax and justice and is living today as a king on some beach.

1427  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-07-25]Rogue Employee Mined 500K Bitcoins in 2011 on: July 25, 2018, 08:41:12 PM
he CEO of Russian e-payments firm Qiwi said Wednesday that in 2011, an employee used its payment terminals to mine 500,000 bitcoins.

CEO Sergey Solonin told the story while speaking to students at the Moscow Advanced Communications School. Solonin – whose company has thrown its weight behind the Russian government's work with blockchain and launched its own blockchain subsidiary in March of last year – said the experience was what first introduced him to the concept, according to a transcript published on the website Rusbase.

Solonin said he discovered that one of his developers had hijacked the company's hardware to mine bitcoin when the machines were not in use. Moreover, he found that the developer had made roughly $5 million over the course of a few months – a great deal more than the company had seen in profit from the machines.

He explained:

"I thought 'what a crazy stuff,' we're struggling to earn 3 cents on those terminals and such a gold mine is actually hidden here."

The developer quit the firm after being asked to turn over the profit from using company property, Solonin added. While he told his remaining employees to continue mining, the network difficulty had become too great for Qiwi's hardware to handle.

Qiwi refused to disclose the name of the developer to the Russian newspaper Vedomosty which confirmed the story with the press office.

As Solonin told the website The Bell, his understanding is that the employee in question went on to lose all their coins at a now-failed cryptocurrency exchange.

1428  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-25] Coinbase Enables Cryptocurrency Gift Cards in Europe and Australia on: July 25, 2018, 08:33:00 PM
Gift Card seems to be a simple alternative to buying products using Bitcoin. Being an extremely volatile asset and because it is difficult to find good credit cards at this time, having options to buy gift card to use in stores seems to be very simple and practical.
1429  Economy / Economics / Re: The cashless society is a con – and big finance is behind it on: July 25, 2018, 08:30:35 PM
The pre-eminence of a cashless society only exists when the government creates a series of regulations to make it difficult for the poorest people to have access to the necessary services. Banks have very expensive structures to be the only alternative in storing your resources.

Cryptocurrency is undoubtedly the best option for us to end up with fiat.
1430  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, why are you hoarding your sMerit? on: July 25, 2018, 07:47:54 PM
He gives more sMerit in his second account.

@theymos_away https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=349090

But I still think it would be better if sMerits could only be used in 60 days. If not used, they will go back to a pool and send to random users or merit sources.
1431  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-24] Trade War Will Launch Bitcoin As The New Gold on: July 25, 2018, 04:40:08 PM
I continue to believe that the great utility of BTC at the moment is Store of Value and exchange of value for peripheral markets. People dream about ETFs and other financial instruments in major markets. But BTC is not necessary for these places and this type of instrument is only for speculation.

BTC is needed in countries in financial crises. In countries at war. In countries experiencing institutional crises. People who have lost everything and need to walk to another country with only their clothes could take their BTC with them.

Traders from African regions surrounded by looters could use BTC in multisig wallets in a more practical way than walking with dollars or jewelry, as is common there.
1432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buying another coins with Bitcoin .... how to track? on: July 25, 2018, 04:19:09 PM
The client has started his own cryptocurrency

No. He did not do his own cryptocurrency. He may have created a virtual currency, he may have created an ethereum token, or he may have made a fork of a currency that already exists. But it is very unlikely that he has created a cryptocurrency and the only problem is to track it on a site.

Now, if he only wants to have a coin to use on a website. The most practical is to create a new Ethereum token from a contract. And so it would be enough to trace it from a node in the ethereum network.

Create your own CRYPTO-CURRENCY with Ethereum
https://www.ethereum.org/token

After this you would only need have a ERC20 Web Walled and track the token using a full node. But this is how exchanges work. So, what you are really asking is what you should do to create an exchange.

1433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opening EOS wallet on: July 25, 2018, 06:02:16 AM
I've seen many recommend this.
Code:
https://github.com/greymass/eos-voter

But so far there is no good, fully reliable wallet for EOS. This wallet would be the best to vote for. But I do not know about tokens. And even voting is unnecessary, since it is a centralized platform and the votes are manipulated.
1434  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: July 25, 2018, 05:41:13 AM

And some mockups with the icons in play:

300 reports

It's beautiful. But it looks more like a mark of authenticity. Similar to those from Twitter and Facebook. I think it would be cool if it was a rat. In prison and other places, snitch is called a rat. So it would be something funny.

I am almost on 300 good reporters, only need to reporter 17 more. =)
1435  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: [Lista] Principais Algoritmos de Consenso on: July 25, 2018, 05:20:48 AM

Proof of burn etc.

1436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Masternode for Newbies on: July 25, 2018, 05:03:47 AM
You can also search for more serious projects that offer the PoS option. Cardano will soon launch his stack option. Tezos already offers, Decred. SyScoin, Solarcoin. Masternode is usually an advanced and expensive option. If it's cheap, the project is a scam and a waste of time. You should always invest in something that will still exist in at least 1 year.
1437  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Worth To Be Currency? on: July 25, 2018, 04:09:30 AM
Quote
If we look at bitcoin volatility in recent years is very high,
Volatility only exists because we still compare the price to fiat. And not with other products. When Bitcoin become more used around the world, the price will not jump like this. We are just seeing the speculation price because nobody has any idea what is the right price. But I do not think Bitcoin will ever be a universal currency that will dominate every market. But BTC could become a currency accepted everywhere as a second currency. It will be easy to tourist around the world using Bitcoin as a reference.
1438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you keep your coins physically secure? on: July 25, 2018, 04:02:57 AM
Bitcoin does not exist. You can not save it anywhere, it's in blockchain. That is distributed and decentralized. Having a hardware wallet does not mean that you have it there. It means your blockchain access key is there. But no computer that I use for routine activities has any access to my wallet or the exchanges. I make everything from a computer unique to these activities. And my seeds are very well kept in different places from where I live.
1439  Economy / Speculation / Re: similarity to last rise on: July 24, 2018, 07:10:00 PM
I think everything will depend on the news that we are waiting for. But I think it is very unlikely that we will continue to have the series of bad news that we have had in recent months. And if I am not mistaken, unlike the last high, post ATH, this finally started in the Asian market and was followed by the European. In recent months the American market was pulling up and the Asian market was selling. Let's see how the Asian market opens, but if it keeps buying, we can move straight to the 10k mark in a week.
1440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: There will be a split in BCash between Craig supporters and Craig non-supporters on: July 24, 2018, 06:30:59 PM
Nobody gives a damn for Craig Wright. He's just a joke. BCash was a project that failed. They lost momentum in this childish attempt to dethrone Bitcoin. They had an excellent opportunity to become an excellent medium of exchange at a low cost. Both BTC and Ethereum will still face major fee difficulties until second-layer solutions are fully functional.

But today Bcash has no way to offer it. Since their supporters are driven by ego, by lies and by people that no one trusts. Bcash must die.
