1461  Economy / Auctions / Re: ❎ ~ Lealana 4-coin Silver BTC set on: March 28, 2016, 08:32:25 AM
Does the set come in a case?  I recall seeing others posted in a nice case....didn't know if that was bought separately.

I'll throw in the case for this auction.

Just remind me after the auction (whomever wins). I may forget.

1462  Economy / Auctions / Re: ❎ ~ Lealana 4-coin Silver BTC set on: March 27, 2016, 05:49:32 AM
To be even more clear it is a number between #1 and #500.

That number will not be specified until after the set is made for this auction.

But, to be clear, this is the equivalent to the set available on your site for 0.895 btc?

I'm guessing you are asking if they are the same coin types.

Yes they are described exactly as they are here on my website as a set and individually.

Hope that helps.

It is just a photo image. This exact set number is not the one for sale.

Otherwise I would have specified that.

...

The only issue I have with the whole lending scenario is COUNTER-PARTY-RISK. I guess if you don't believe Polo will ever get hacked or close down. Then you're good.

The other side of the coin is usually what I pay attention to when looking at any exchange or "other party".

There is also the risk that the short seller's equity does not cover the closed position is a fast rising market. Take a look at DASH/XMR currently the most liquid of the XMR markets to see what I mean. https://poloniex.com/exchange#xmr_dash

Yeah. Good point. It still falls under the counter-party-risk category.

1468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 26, 2016, 08:41:43 PM
If there are weak hands saying Monero cannot run anymore, it is always possible to borrow Moneros (obviosuly you have sold your coins already and need to borrow now), I am happy to feed your short positions.
The rates are now so low that not many will bother to lend but I can give a few coins for rent.
That been said, over 50 % of my coins are lent at 0.20 % or higher (even the loan with 0.900 % is still collecting interest).

I've gotten to the point where I am too big of a player to play the margin game anymore (at least without not disrupting the markets somewhat), so I am starting to look into other forms of making my money work for me, specifically the other side of the coin: lending.  I say again, I really wish Poloniex allowed people to long other coins with borrowed XMR, but we seem to be getting a steady 0.1%-ish even with the only purpose of Monero lending being to short itself.

Do you have any advice for a new wannabe lender who wants to stay competitive, but also not get into a bidding war with other lenders?  What should I look for in offering an average loan?  Are 0.1% 2-day loans the norm?  Should I try to swing those low interest loans into higher rate ones once the initial term is up?  Sorry, all this is a bit new to me, but I am learning quickly.

Im way small fish and less expert than you, so I donīt have a sound strategie to offer you but... donīt you worry about your moneros not been returned back?. Since I learned that the leans are not 100% guarateed I just reduced this risk to the max... I offer some BTC at extortion rates from time to time, but I sleep better when they are under my control (well... Polo control)

Any idea why lending got so lucrative a few days ago and what conditions might make it so lucrative again?

Greed.

are views as to what constitutes a decentralized system differs to much...
Run by various government/institutions/corporations != decentralized coin. That's a "Capital Coin". If you want such a coin, just fork off with the existing support that you have already. Don't try turning Bitcoin into something that it isn't.

in my view its my duty as a bitcoiner to discuss my views on its future. this doesn't necessarily mean agreeing with the status quo. ( if we all just TRUST 1 group of devs to have our best interest in mind, WTF is the point??? )

also... Run by various government/institutions/corporations Can == decentralized

IF there is no central authority

so the peers are tend to be a level above individual poeple. Meh....

beside no one is stopping individuals to invest in a 10,000$ node and participate in this network i am suggesting.

That's a pretty big IF.

Most governments, institutions and corporations are fundamentally centralized. Hence why they each can be regulated.

the canadian government is not subject to the USA government in a centralized manner.

in a sense the systems of governance around the world are decentralized, each operating independently from each other working toward a common goal ( making pencils! )

when the governments meet at the united nations are they there to hear the wishes of a commander and chief and carry out his orders. or do they each act as individuals working ( trying to work ) toward a common goal, each with there own agenda.

So long as there are competing interest who are dependent on a consistent blockchain Bitcoin will remain decentralized.

The Canadian Government is still centralized in that you have a pretty big governmental system controlled from the top down ...just like the banking sector.

You assume that there are no dark-shadowy-elite interests that have control within both US and Canada governments.

The banking sector almost collectively around the world works together to manipulate markets.

Not sure that is really TRUE decentralization in what you described.

Word is that the chinese don't consider litecoin to be an altcoin. They just see bitcoin and litecoin and then the rest. Litecoin is also the only other coin besides bitcoin on the major chinese exchanges. This is enough for me to keep some of my hodlings in ltc for the time being. Much more room for profit than btc, and it still hasn't shown that it will be decoupled from btcs next moves. Very long term, I am not sure as no one is, but worst case I figure I will be able to increase my btc and xmr hodlings.

I guess that could change as monero is now more than half the price of litecoin. So that perspective could change pretty quickly.

We'll see.

About 2 years ago I didn't know much, but I was interested in Monero so I forced myself to learn how to use the command line wallet. It was fun to learn how things worked on a deeper level so I started learning how to code when I had the time.

Fast-forward to now and I will be starting a new job as a developer next Monday. I still have a lot to learn, but now someone will actually be paying me to write code for them. HAHA! Thanks Monero!

I post this to say that anyone can learn how to do this if you have the interest and make time for it.

Very good. I'm happy for you.

Yes programming/coding can be an acquired taste as it was for me.

It is a very valuable skill in the time we live in.
