So many people in this thread just post knee-jerk replies it's not even funny. Can't we have rational discussion on this forum anymore ?

I agree.

Those of us asking technical quesitons, especially from the angle of engineering probability, are being ignored by the company. I've seen a few rational questions posed to the fellow in the past page or 2 which have been ignored, unless he's simply waiting for a response from the company--in which case, he should say "I have acknowledged these questions and am awaiting response" or something to that affect.

Has anyone done the math on 10,000-25,000 units @ 1TH? What's that equate to? lol

why stop there..  since you are just using numbers of what they said they are capable of producing (regardless of sales) why not say 400,000 units in a month?

They were doing 5,000 round batches every month. They're sold out through May. That's not guesswork based on production capability. 5*4=20. I just added a few for the behind-the-door sales they did. Even 5,000 units @ 1TH is going to be a kick in the nuts, but the fact is, they've sold far more than that, and their plan is simple: The design works, so keep ordering supplies and keep shipping them.

By the time the Neptune ($10,000) hits in April or May, you could order more hash power for half the cost from Cointerra, and it should arrive the same time. Theirs will also include dual power supplies, which some folks here desire.

you could very well be correct....as much as i like to mine and KNC ...the refund on neptunes is an option to keep in mind...of course if cointerra continues to just flood market 5k units at a time lowering prices thru summer and fall..not to mention everyone else...well bitcoin will have to go up in price as difficulty rises or it won't be worth the elec to run miners or host or even gh farm (not that i know what i'm talking about ..but that is what comes to mind with me) ...if it is a run away flood of hash for the rest of the year that is....imho ebay acceptance and others making bitcoin going mainstream would probably help balance this out...but without that ...well.....don't want to scare my little self (clings to his imaginary 38 btc hoard and wimpers)

Searing

I love KNC's quality, their design, their team, etc. I really do. But in this market I have to remain open to simple facts. Price and Delivery Window is key for folks who want to mine without losing money. KNC did fairly well their first time around, I'd give them an A-. This time around, it's not looking so good for the average consumer miner. I have no doubt their machine will likely be able to pump out 4-6TH, but that exceeds the power capabilities of the consumer miner.

So for the non-consumer the Neptune will likely still be profitable.

Blackarrow is also a proven small-scale adversary to KNC. They have shipped good equipment this past year, and in the next month they're supposed to be shipping more large scale.

I believe 2014 will be a ramping-up year for BTC value and certainly ASIC shipment. Unless BTC value continues to rise, I don't see home-mining being something for BTC beyond 2015. Early projections of course, but that's just my take.

I wanted to invest in Cointerra, Blackarrow and KNC months ago, but didn't have the money. Now that I do, it's just a little late. I'll keep up my current efforts with the equipment I have.

Stop responding to this thread. The coin is dead. There's no mining network. Difficulty will take over a year to bring down because there's no mining network.

If you want a REAL rewards coin, check out TAG coin. It's alive, it's hot, it's ramping up to be one of the greatest coins this year, with a corporate backing even litecoin doesn't have. Check the trade and network history, it's had LOTS of attention, and come February with the new version, it'll be able to handle many gigahashes.

Forget this gifttrash. It was a cool idea but the dev ruined it.

CoinTerra begins FCC/CE certification this week, followed up by a test-run of its 2 production facilities at the end of this week where they'll do part of a batch and ship it. Full produciton/shipping ramp-up of all batches begins Monday the 27th: http://cointerra.com/update-prototype-testing-completed-certification-production-week/

I find this particularly interesting, as some people in this thread once claimed it took weeks and would cause massive delays etc:

Yeah, Cointerra has a simple manual assembly for the chassis (as pictured with the 2 teenage looking folks) and automated for the PCB stuff. The chassis assembly has been going on all month from what I've heard, so once they verify the automated line is working fine (end of the week I suppose), they'll just be flipping a switch and letting all the batches ramp up.

As some would say, if all goes well, "shits about to get real".

Has anyone done the math on 10,000-25,000 units @ 1TH? What's that equate to? lol

At the same time we have been preparing the hardware for mandatory FCC and CE product testing and certification, and UL safety testing and certification which we have been informed will take approximately 2-3 days to complete.

Will this be the first asic miner device that is actually CE certified?

Block Erupters have CE certification, as do BFL Jally's. I can see the stamp of approval on mine. I dunno about other equipment though, but I'm fairly sure most of it would be for import into the EU.
1506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: January 21, 2014, 01:46:17 PM
From the standpoint of architecture and basic engineering, I find it borderline sci-fi to be reducing the physical footprint of the thermal space by 80%, increasing the density of chips, maintaining the same hashrate, all while reducing the power usage. Can you even do the math on the efficiency factor for that? A+B = Astonishing, that's what it is.

For this to be legit, would be groundbreaking. Not saying it's not legit.. but it was at least realistic during the preorder stage when the system was a full-height case. Kindof hard to believe at this point without so much as a technical drawing..

Vesper. I'm an Aussie but strictly a Ford man.  Grin  But I know the cars you're talking about.  The Monaro got a new American style nose and the steering wheel moved about 4 foot to the left and became a Pontiac.  Same with the Commodore except that became a Chev.

Yeah the 'new' GTO was truly my love car. Got one brand new right off the boat with 0.25miles on the dash, drove it for a year, then took it apart down to the frame and started customizing it. I worked with several car part companies in Australia to get aftermarket parts developed, and tested out a lot of stuff nobody here stateside had ever seen before. Helped get the Harrop supercharger designed for the car and everything.

I had planned to keep the car for life, even bought spare interior parts, carpet, etc. Never had a chance to finish out my goal though, while driving to work one day a lorry hopped 3 lanes over and ran over the car, throwing me across the highway like a pinball =(

I drive the Commodore now, the Pontiac G8 GT. I got it before they canned it and turned it into a Chevy import (eww..)

Update on the cards: Sure enough it appears my reboot issue on the 5x rig was simply overheating of the cards due to the PSU. It's been stable ever since redirecting the hot PSU air.

Dabs,

You are being overly-optimist in thinking that you can match Vesper's 492Kh/s... Vesper is a genius at this stuff... I would calculate my numbers on 450Kh/s which is what John is reporting with his cards... then hope to better...

Just my 2TAG...

You guys are too kind lol =P

I always base my purchasing/planning on safe numbers, usually average of what most folks are getting. This way I know the system "will likely make X hash" regardless of anything. Then I push the system to the bleeding edge and let it scream lol.

It's like I do with anything else in my life, bikes, cars, etc. I took my Monaro and pushed it to the edge lol. I'll do the same with my Commodore eventually.

The Aussies will recognize those cars.

I don't have any personal experience with them but others have said good things. I have 5 on the way this week to test.

Having issues with my rig with the ASUS units in them, though I believe it's the rig and not the GPUs. It was having issues before I put them in there. Keeps locking up.

Update, appears to be heat related. Forgot the Thermaltake PSU sits right under one of the GPUs so it's getting hot air from the PSU. System is detecting overheating and shutting down. Put a cardboard tube over part of the PSU to direct the heat elsewhere as a quick fix, and lowered the GPU's settings to calm it down some. Half the power but hopefully won't cause issues overnight.

Grabbed them from a retailer on ebay. Am investigating being a distributor stateside. If you want a link to them PM me, the prices were about $20ish.

To reach the 490 zone, I'd say just try the settings which have worked for me: 24000TC, Power/Intensity 20, 1145 Engine, 1500 memory. For safe/long-term usage I'd set the engine to 0 (stock GPU clock). Puts you in the 450-470 range usually.

Something to add to all of my 270X observations: Only the Sapphire Dual-X 270X provided heatsink coverage for all of its memory chips. This is likely important for long term usage with the OEM cooler.

Neither the Powercolor base model, the VisionTeks nor the Asus TOP providing cooling for all the memory chips. In fact, most just receive the air being blown off of the GPU cooling fins.

I plan to put Prolimatechs on the 270x units, except the ASUS model, though I will put heatsinks on its memory chips.

Asus 270X TOP

Finally getting around to working on these Asus 270X cards. Darn things won't hash over 380 out of the box. I saw that by applying the new BIOS they would work better. The new BIOS is on the ASUS support page, I believe it's dated 10 Dec 2013 or thereabouts at the time of this writing. It's an .EXE file which should force-flash 270, 270X and 270 TOP cards from ASUS.

Popped it in the BAMT rig.. sure enough, started hashing faster. Going to tune these and provide some results.

Updates:

The ASUS model seems to be responding to my previous settings as all the others did, once I reflashed it. It's maintaining 492/493 without a hitch. However, it's a bit tricky. Some work this way, and others die shortly after. Seems like a combination of the GPU being sensitive to spikes in temperature, and the memory.

Test System: (same as always)

* ASRock 970 EX4, Sempron 145, 2GB HyperX
* Thermaltake TPG-1050M
* BAMT 1.2
* Cgminer 3.7.2
* USB Risers

With TC: 24000, Powertune: 20, here's what I'm getting:

Engine / Memory / Intensity / KHash
1120 / 1500 / 18 / 450kh
1120 / 1500 / 20 / 483kh
1145 / 1500 / 20 / 492kh

Power usage is the same as others, 170-175w per GPU.

However I've noticed that sometimes the cards simply can't take these settings for long, and will die out. Here's some more reliable settings, with more settings to follow:

Engine / Memory / Intensity / Powertune / Hashrate
1080 / 1400 / 17 / 18 / 400kh
1050 / 1400 / 17 / 18 / 425kh
1050 / 1400/ 18 / 20 / 437kh
1050 / 1400 / 20 / 18 / 452kh

(last updated 2014-10-26 0035)

With that being said, I would definitely recommend these for mining. I got mine for $180/ea via Amazon. There's a few left right now. For the price they're not bad, considering you have to update the BIOS (which isn't a pain, but is annoying). I still like "care free and guaranteed", but these are great.

One of the NEATEST things about this card versus the other 270X cards: The TOP cooler is awesome. It's the quietest OEM cooler I've run across with the 270X series, its' noise level is close to my Prolimatech's. It also does a bangup job at keeping the cards cool, not quite as well as the Prolimatech, but for a stock cooler, this is truly amazing. If you want essentially silent performance from a mining rig without swapping GPU coolers, this is the card to get. If I could, I would swap my other 270's for this card.

The ONLY drawback is you HAVE to force-flash the BIOS of each GPU to reach appropriate speeds.

ASUS R9270X-DC2T-2GD5 Summary:

* 492+ KH speeds achieved BUT 452-470 is a more likely stable speed: faster clock is not always better
* 175w Power Usage
* Somewhat quieter Cooling than other setups
* Longer PCB design than other 270's (same length as 280 models)
* PCIE Power Ports face up with the clip facing the backside (very nice), other 270's face rearward with clip facing the cooler (makes it hard to grasp)

Quirks:

* GPU ignores commanded fan speed after a short period, and takes over
* Appears to be an internal thermal shutdown, somewhere in the upper 80's (at least on my cards)
* They don't like intensity set beyond 18, without getting weird

Comments/feedback welcome.

Cassie isn't doing anything because she has over 50% of the money.

Anything to prove your side of the story would be helpful. Where are the refunds?
1515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] "BitBaY" Commission Shares thread! on: January 20, 2014, 03:18:58 PM
It's still digital property with a dollar value in the US, so thanks to several rulings on that back in 1999 and the early part of this century ala MPAA / RIAA, you can in fact file charges against the gentleman.

I wonder if Cassie needs more personal info of the young fellow, it can be dug up. Medical records? SSN? The guy has a digital trace on the internet like there's no tomorrow. Asian porn sites.. the whole 9 yards. He's even registered some weird domains this past year and looks like he tried scamming some folks using them, then dumped the domains.

He's playing with the wrong crowd.

Parents names, phone numbers and also workplaces please.

You also know gathering info without proper legal permissions is a federal offense right?

Not when it's been put into public information spaces for public purposes. He's registered domains with personal details, which you are legally allowed to gather, and done the same with other tidbits for other purposes. He's left a clear breadcrumb trail. You simply cannot use the information for illicit purposes, but you can use it for legal purposes to pursue legal actions.

Cheeky: If people are interested, they should band together in one topic thread and post up their intentions, and then contact the police/sheriff in his area and inquire about filing a report on the matter. That's a great first start. If Cassie led the way, that would be fabulous as well.

If you look through the past 10 pages you should find some info. I'm using 270X right now, haven't tried 270 yet although I'm about to purchase 5 MSI 270's.

Doubtful he's going to follow through. Even if he does, he's still guilty, and by defrauding the website he's just added more charges. Kid has no idea what he's doing or how deep the hole is getting. All it takes is for a handful of us to file a report in his county, and he's done for.

Also, call and complain if you like:

@vesper, have you gotten the ASRock 970 Extreme4 to mine with 5 280X Toxics? (or 6 GPUs)? And did you use more than one PSU? That's the motherboard I plan to get for my dedicated mining rig.

If I do a 5 Toxic rig, using your computation, I would need 1850 watts. So I can get the following?

Quote
Seasonic X-750 750W 80PLUS Gold (Modular)
Seasonic X-1050 1050W 80Plus Gold Full Modular Power Supply

But I'm still missing 50 watts, maybe I should get the 850 and the 1050 instead.

I've got one running with 5 270X's, so I can confirm 5 slots will work just fine. You will have to use a jumper on one (or more) of the slots to make sure it senses the GPUs. I simply used a piece of cat5 cable, cut a 2" piece of copper from it.

I would go with the twin 1050's just to be safe.
