Upward trend average on the base price of POT over the last couple days since pixskull's announcement. No idea if there's a correlation there, but it just goes to show that the more places it can be used, the greater potential price.

Shoot, at this point, what's to say they even hash the passwords? They may even be using plaintext on the backend. Glad I use a different PW for each exchange.

So far, no different than anything I've seen before. This isn't FUD, this is just an observation of fact:

1. You're offering to give premined coins in exchange for BTC

2. Whether you use an escrow or not, YOU the dev can't lose, you get BTC, you shoulder no risk whatsoever. If it goes down in flames, you come out richer, the buyers come out poor

3. You're setting up a web forum related to cryptocoin, with some shortcut links to the sales area - and? We have bitcointalk already

4. The IPO is worthless to the buyers because there's no *reason* to use your community, and hence, the coins tied to it

5. You don't need 10 BTC to setup a webforum. 0.10 at most, 0.20 for a competent dev

In rebuttle, Can you answer the following:

1. Other than being used on your site, what are the coins useful for?

2. Why do you need a BTC injection when it doesn't cost that much to setup a secure webforum?

3. Why should anyone use your site vs one of several others in existence already which use a multitude of currencies?

4. Why not setup a webforum of this nature to simply accept all currencies instead of tying it to a coin?

5. What prevents someone from buying all of the IPO for themselves and also taking all of the bounties -- using multiple identities -- and then crashing the coin?

The community eagerly awaits your response.

665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Mandatory Wallet Update on: May 08, 2014, 02:06:39 PM
Coin isn't dead. The death of the project was its owner up and disappearing, and then failing to ship products or return email. He either was running a scam the whole time, or doesn't have the maturity/mental capability to face up to the issues and handle them. Life issues arise, which is why you delegate responsibilities, even if you're a sole proprietor you pass it off to someone if you really want to see it succeed.

Consider this: The IPO people basically gave him what, 40 or 70 GPU's. How many were verified as being sold and shipped? Less than 10? How much of this was out of his pocket? $0.

He's claiming losses on his end, and I'm sure it's true he spent some of his own money.. but the reality is that by not being the majority risk holder, he had no pressure to really make the deal work.

666  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypto Rush - Crypto to Crypto exchange on: May 08, 2014, 01:49:15 PM
But some people lost a LOT of money here. Why aren't they pursuing it legally?

Probably because, nobody lost any real value, or big amounts. I mean, we all have coins in there, but not billions of euros, more like a few dollars each.

We are all in there with small amounts, personally i'm also in just about the numbers you are in
and i believe most users have about same numbers, with exceptions of course..

That's pretty arrogant and presumptuous to say. I know people who lost many BTC and thousands of altcoins. It's not that they were being 'stored' there, they were sitting for trades.

Meet your maker

Jeez those screens are small.

Surge Dev, so how's that announcement coming?
668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Mandatory Wallet Update on: May 06, 2014, 02:49:51 PM
with my idea, there doesn't need to be anyone backing the store, no ipo, no other crap. everything is in place.. the people that would stock the store are miners!
we've got a ground breaking ability here to rock the world of crypto with the right advertising.

here is what i've said a few times now. take it, chew it up, swish it around in your mouth, and add or subtract to it.

The points of your idea were brought up in general by several people throughout the life of this thread, and it never gained support. My thought is: Why use GPUC and not Bitcoin or another firmly established coin?

The main problem i see with the store is that they sell the cards at GPUC BID price.... Creating pressure on the bid side always lowers the value of a coin, to a point where the coin reaches 1 SAT with no buyers (basic economics) due to market saturation, because they had no strong backing of fiat and they had the pressure to exchange their GPUC to buy cards.

The only solution, and i tought this was their initial idea, is to have a HUGE inventory and sell the cards at a loss for some time at the target GPUC price, e.g. if i want the coin to reach 0.05 BTC i should sell 1 R9 290 close to 21 GPUC and wait for the GPUC price to catch up with the price target, creating buy pressure on the OFFER side by scarcity.

These guys should contract an economist to help them on that, they're clueless and are doing it wrong. Too bad, this coin promised a lot.

Before the store was designed, I gave them this same general speech and provided them with a basic equation and a couple of variations on how to work the price calculation. Many of us brought this up.

Best of luck to you guys wanting to make something of this.

May-be you are just living to close to him (dealing with someone on internet and in real life is totally different...)
Ok if he didn't send the product to everybody yet, this is clearly unacceptable.
Regarding someone to help him with the frontend, it is always the same problem, it means he would have had to spend more money to hire someone (this would have required the store to be already profitable).
Actually hiring someone would certainly have been more useful than spending 5000$ on having a company working on new splitter design... (the business was too young for that, as it wasn't its main goal)

edit: obviously I assume what he said is true...

There are a couple of folks who verified that weeks after paying, they never received a product, and he refused to respond to their inquiries. I'm not sure if it's changed in the past week, but that's status as of back then.

He wouldn't have had to spend money with someone volunteering to help, and I totally agree he blew money on some odd splitting thing. Products already exist, why was he spending thousands of dollars to polish a wheel? Makes no sense.

670  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Mandatory Wallet Update on: May 06, 2014, 01:23:41 PM
Last point, I don't think versperwillow is unbiaised (or like foxnews  Grin) from what he wrote lately, I think he wanted to do a business partnership with Jaymes and got turned down, however I don't see how more mining farm would have helped.

I have nothing to gain or lose from any of it. I pulled out of the coin entirely before it launched. What bias would I have? My opinion of his mismanagement hasn't changed, nor has my support or advice to those trying to make something of it.

I offered to help him if he wanted it--I didn't want to be a business partner, I just wanted to see the idea take off. I asked for no additional benefit for my help, I was going to provide services and support out of my own pocket just to see the coin take off.

I also offered more than just a farm. Everyone here complained about his lack of presence, the lack of products shipping (which still haven't shipped for some customers), nobody helping them out, nobody talking on the forum in an official manner, etc. I had offered to be that guy. Jaymes refused to talk to me. I don't hold a grudge against that because I had nothing to gain anyhow.

And when you have a business coin, you want to ensure no forks occur and that transactions are always being processed, regardless of anyone else mining the coin. This is why you have a dedicated mining network. Other business related coins have them. He didn't see the benefit.

And here we are today.

Now, I must admit I never understood why the forum crowd was so much against the ceo. Sure he is not a big communicator, but micryon was present, Hendr1x and some others too... But even then it was never enough to satisfy everybody.
Seriously, when you buy stuff on Amazon, you don't try to contact Amazon CEO and make a scene because it doesn't answer (or try to propose idea to Amazon CEO...) You buy your stuff and that's it. Why it should be different here ?

The coders were present always, but that doesn't help with the frontend issues which Jaymes held sole control over. He should've had someone helping him.
671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: May 06, 2014, 12:36:24 PM

They also continue to proclaim being THE OFFICIAL coin of pot, but they're not. They're one of several, until one is clearly chosen by the community and heralded by 3rd party groups as the official coin.

I think it is attention grabbing, and there is no regulation. How does one even become the official crypto currency of any industry? You just say you are, and make it as so. Just saying you are is not enough though, you need to make it as such. I am hoping that it is coming.

....

I entirely get that, trust me. But it's a 2 edged sword. People will think, this is the official coin of pot, but:

I don't see it on the ground
I don't hear about it
What is potcoin?
Can I use it at all dispensaries?
if it's the official, why aren't folks taking it seriously in the industry

Etc..

I'm not knocking them, I'm just saying that they could be shooting themselves in the foot.

Smokepotcoins.com lists places that accept potcoin.

Ok but that goes right back to my point: Where is it proclaimed on the main page? You have everything but "places to use potcoin" listed at the top of the page.
672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Mandatory Wallet Update on: May 06, 2014, 12:27:18 PM
Imo, jumping on R9 280x was one of the first mistakes in this coin.
If you open up a car shop, you dont start selling Feraris and Mazerratis right away, you start with the cheap crap and expand from there.
Now, if only those werent IPO money... perhaps then the creator of the coin wouldnt have been so quick to jump on the expensive stuff...

Jaymes held votes to determine what the customer base wanted to purchase from the store, and stocked the store accordingly. He didn't just arbitrarily chose cards which were too expensive.

674  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: May 05, 2014, 03:32:27 PM
It doesn't help that the website doesn't have an easy access link to where potcoin is being accepted--unless I missed it.

Prominently displayed is the 800 number, places to buy potcoin, accept potcoin, etc. But no link for merchants. While this may be elsewhere, it should be right on the main website headers.

I'm guessing it's somewhere and I missed it, but that's my point--if I don't know of places I can spend it ..........

They also continue to proclaim being THE OFFICIAL coin of pot, but they're not. They're one of several, until one is clearly chosen by the community and heralded by 3rd party groups as the official coin.

I don't know who these coin revival guys are..?  Are they for real or just some other scam..

Man I just came back from analyzing the Asiacoin situation, what a mess of a scam.  Makes Jaymes look like an angel compared to that situation.  Dude tried something and failed... probably out his own money too.  Some of these other scams are getting away with hundreds of thousands of dollars...

But so many other anonymous internet jokers out there.

How could it get worse?

Find out that Jaymes was running a scam all along? I guess that would be like salt on the wound. but beyond that, not much worse.

The true good that came out of this is on the development team: They've earned some solid rep at providing support and quality code.

They seem legit guys, they have already helped a few coins out of good will. We have nothing to lose anyway in trusting them, they can only help.
Seems like we will be picked on their vote.
Question is what do we do from here?

This seems to go back to what was said a page or 2 back. Without the business frontend, the coin is just another coin, so what's the point? Figuratively speaking.
677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: May 05, 2014, 12:48:47 PM
While I get the spirit of what Jamis is saying, the reality is slightly different. The NSA, if /that/ concerned, would simply have field agents on the ground working the social factor. They'd be a paid worker like everyone else, growing, trimming, shipping, etc. Inside information is cheap and easy.

Also, the US govt got turned on once they saw how easy it was to trace cryptocurrency transactions. With potcoin it's no different. There's a fiat input and output at some point, and everything between is traceable easily by computer. To think it's anonymous is a bit silly.

To see it as a useful payment system, then yes it would be that.

I still support potcoin.. we'll see where it goes.
678  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | Mandatory Wallet Update on: May 05, 2014, 12:39:57 PM
Asiacoin was a clear scam from day 1.. I refused to get near it, lots of other people avoided it as well. Sucks for anyone who got caught in it.

I doubt Jaymes, who's claiming large losses (despite seemingly having liquidity in GPU cards which you guys bought him), would turn the business over for a $1.

He tanked the business. He should honestly just give the remaining cards back to the community, or have an escrow sell them and split the funds up among the folks.
may-be you should give him a break... you have been badmouthing him for over 437 pages... (since the beginning quite frankly...)
so if you blame the guy for the failure of the coin, you can share with him some of the responsibility for undermining his work here on the forum.

I don't say he has nothing to do with what is happening to the coin, but for a large part the problem comes from the coin itself (and coins market in general) and not the store. There is not much he could have done once he ended up with tons of unsellable gpuc...

If you re-read my posts, you'll see I was very supportive in the beginning hundred or so. The more I got to know him and the trails of destruction he left behind, the more I simply vocalized what others didn't want to believe.

I still remained supportive to people when they needed help. I tried to help this coin from launch, and even after relaunches 2 and 3. I offered servers, development, mining farms, media support, on-the-ground shipping and coordination.. the whole lot. He refused all of it. Imagine if he'd partnered with someone local, like myself--the business wouldn't have failed due to "personal reasons".

If by badmouthing you mean I hold the owner solely responsible--like everyone else--then sure. None of my statements have been exaggerated or without basis. I even offered multiple times to go find him in person to see if he could get back on the forums, or to be a mediator of contact between he and the forum, but you guys weren't interested.

I got out while the getting was good, so did some others. I'm sorry if you weren't one of those lucky few. I tried to steer people away from wasting their electricity and hopes, not out of any personal vendetta, but because I want to see the community as a whole do well in crypto and I don't like seeing people get taken.

The activity in this thread has really died down lately, which is troubling to me.

because it looks like we got taken.  I heard Dev's got ASCII Mining machines and sold the coin down to the level where it is now.  Sucks if its true.
