1501  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the weight of a 256 bit number ? on: September 11, 2017, 04:06:50 PM
bits and bytes are not physical and have therefore no weight
Not true. Information storage requires a certain amount of entropy, which in turn requires energy in proportion to the temperature of the storage medium, and since energy produces gravity just as mass does, bits and bytes do in fact have weight, though far too little to be worth talking about normally. Specifically, a 256-bit number requires kBln(2256) = 2.45x10-21J/K of entropy, which at room temperature corresponds to 7.35x10-19J of energy or 8.17x10-36kg of mass. For comparison, this is about 200 million times less than the mass of a proton.

This may not seem like much, but it does put a hard limit on the matter and energy requirements of computational processes. Iterating through all possible states of a 256-bit number requires 2256 times more energy than storing it once, which at 3 Kelvin (the average temperature of the Universe, and hence the best you can do as far as practical cooling is concerned) means 8.51x1056J or 9.46x1039kg, about 5 billion times the mass of the Sun. This makes brute-forcing 256-bit keys somewhat impractical. Wink

(I hope I haven't screwed up my math as I'm prone to do at this hour, but the numbers seem about right.)
1502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.14.2 Released on: September 10, 2017, 03:54:17 AM
May I ask how to make my bitcoin cash wallet create a seperate/new blockchain in a directory I choose the location of when I next open it?
"bitcoin-qt -datadir=<location>"

<Location> must be a directory that already exists (though it may be empty), and since you must use this option every time you run it, it may be helpful to add it to a shortcut (or batch file, if that's the way you want to do it).
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.14.2 Released on: September 09, 2017, 02:06:45 AM
At the same time I downloaded the bitcoin classic wallet, thinking it would be to use for my Bitcoin Cash side of the current split into two currencies, but upon opening the wallet I saw my bitcoin transactions were in my bitcoin cash wallet as if it was sharing its wallet.dat...and similar to my bitcoin qt wallet the snyc process had seemingly halted at the moment of the fork ie the Aug 1st 14:16.14 2017 block....although it does cross my mind that the bcc in the bcc wallet may be a successful `split`,yet.
Running Bitcoin Cash with the same data directory as an existing Bitcoin Core installation (which it stupidly does by default) will corrupt your Bitcoin Core chainstate and prevent it from syncing. Run "bitcoin-qt -reindex-chainstate" to fix it (this will take several hours, so be patient). If you wish to run both Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Core, you must use a separate data directory for each.
1504  Other / Off-topic / Re: Not so lame excuse for not attending classes on: September 07, 2017, 04:45:02 AM
Coming up with a good excuse will at best only save you from getting expelled. You'll still have to re-take the classes you skipped if you want a passing grade. One of the lessons you're supposed to learn in school is that success requires effort.
1505  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin address calculation deep dive, does not add up on: September 06, 2017, 07:58:51 AM
base58encode(26 bytes)=base58encode(104 bits)
I think you'll find 26 bytes is actually 208 bits. Wink
1506  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the Meaning of Sin? on: September 04, 2017, 04:12:27 AM
Somebody Say if we commit sin we will be also belong to the the Wrath of GOD and we will not be having eternal Life?
"Somebody" is trying to threaten you into joining their religion, where you will be brainwashed into doing ridiculous things for the amusement of their leader, including abetting their criminal actions, all the while paying money (which they call a "tithe") for the whole experience. Unfortunately, judging from your post history, it looks like they've succeeded. Hopefully it's not too late for you to try to escape.

Also, your English spam is just very poorly-translated Russian spam.

For me happiness when near to me people are not ill. Also happiness when you who - нибудь love and you are loved in reply. But it is my opinion personally. At all a different concept is about happiness.
I guarantee that no English-speaker who didn't know a little Russian would be able to tell from the context what you're talking about. For reference, the correct translation of "кто-нибудь" is "someone" or "somebody", not "who - нибудь". Come on, even Google Translate gets that one right. Roll Eyes

It's pretty logical. Bitcoin does need that larger block size now. So do you actually think it's better to stay at 1mb instead increasing to 2mb ?
SegWit already increased the block size limit to 4MB, in case you haven't been keeping up with the latest news.
1509  Economy / Reputation / Re: my negative was deserved ? on: September 03, 2017, 10:44:46 AM
soo my account is finish now ?i want used in campaign but nobody accepted negative account
soo iff me buy a car stolen me make prison?i am sure not
soo bought account not deserve negative
maybe this account was reall owner saler why not ?me pay good money for account i not deerve negative
Yes, you can indeed go to prison for buying a stolen car. Why would you think otherwise? You'll also lose the car with no chance of getting your money back. Next time, don't buy hacked accounts.

It's happening again. I keep getting "Incorrect Recaptcha." or "You must solve the CAPTCHA (JavaScript required)." I had to try dozens of times before I could finally log in; I was just about ready to give up altogether. Undecided
1511  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Colonising Planets on: August 29, 2017, 03:07:57 AM
Mathematical nonsense.  Smiley

There are hundreds of billions of stars in this galaxy alone, with hundreds of billions of galaxies.

Each star has multiple planets.

Eventually, we will find some that support our life.
Chemical nonsense.  Smiley

You won't find an oxygen atmosphere on a planet by chance; oxygen is far too reactive to exist naturally in a free state. You know why water's the most common compound in the universe? Because hydrogen is the most common element, so whenever there's oxygen around - BOOM! Oxygen also reacts with carbon to form carbon oxides, silicon to form rock, and metals to form rust: all of which can be found in varying levels of abundance on other planets, but no free oxygen.

The only reason Earth has oxygen in its atmosphere is because algae and plants are constantly producing it as a waste product, and the only way another planet can have oxygen is if it already has life like ours, which may be inconvenient for colonists.
1512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block Size of 1,068 KB. Can someone explain this? on: August 29, 2017, 02:32:32 AM
SegWit (which was recently activated) increased the block size limit to 4MB. There was never a proposal to increase it to 2MB in November; "SegWit2x" is a proposal to increase the limit to 8MB. Everyone who said otherwise was lying.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The first over 1000 mb block ever mined on btc network on: August 26, 2017, 05:20:48 AM
1. the 4 MB is the block "Weight" not block size.
as you can see the block weight of above block is 3996.461 kWU according to blockchain.info
Weight is just a multiplier for non-SegWit data, specifically each byte of non-SegWit data is 4 weight units. As you just demonstrated, the weight is not the same as the block size, which is 1,032,119 bytes, not 3,996,713 bytes. You can plainly see the block size by dumping the block's raw data into a file size utility:
Code:
$ bitcoin-cli getblock 00000000000000000139cb443e16442fcd07a4a0e0788dd045ee3cf268982016 false | xxd -r -p | wc -c
1032119
See? No tricks: there's exactly 1,032,119 bytes of data in that block.

2. how do you explain all the other block explorers showing the size as 988.2 kB
blocktrail
blockcypher
They are (incorrectly) showing the stripped size of the block, ie, with all SegWit data removed. It is not possible to validate SegWit transactions with this data removed, and SegWit nodes will not be able to sync from it.

3. there are still legacy nodes on the network that will reject any block that is bigger then 1 MB so that block can not be valid if we want to be backward compatible.
That is what stripped blocks are for. They are not forward compatible with SegWit nodes, and any old node that upgrades to SegWit will need to download these blocks again to get the full data.
1514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The first over 1000 mb block ever mined on btc network on: August 26, 2017, 03:31:16 AM
this is impossible to do. which means either that block is invalid and the rest of them have built on top of an invalid and orphan chain. or it means that blockchain.info made a mistake.
No, SegWit is now active, which increases the maximum block size to 4MB. That block is indeed 1,032,119 bytes. Blockchain.info is correct (for once).

1516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Warning: Unknown block versions being mined! It's possible unknown rules are in on: August 25, 2017, 02:32:28 AM
Some miners are incorrectly still signalling version bit 1, which used to indicate SegWit, but now that SegWit is active, it means nothing and miners are supposed to stop using it so that that bit may be reused for new soft forks. Bitcoin Core gives a warning about it since it has no way of knowing whether a new soft fork has already been proposed and is being signalled.
1517  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Origin of the terms First, Second & Third World on: August 17, 2017, 10:38:44 AM
The terms strictly refer to a country's alignment during the Cold War: the First World is NATO, the Second World is the Eastern Bloc, and the Third World is everyone else. While the Third World is comprised mainly of countries that were too poor to get involved in the conflict, it also includes a few rich countries that remained neutral for political reasons, such as Switzerland. So it's incorrect to use the term "Third World" to refer to poor countries generally, and these terms are really only of historical interest these days. China is a Second World country, by the way, not a Third World country, which is why you shouldn't rely on Facebook for such things.

Or if I install  bitcoin core on a larger computer, will I get access to it?
Yes. Just copy the wallet.dat file to the new installation. (It would also be highly advisable to back up this file if you haven't already, for obvious reasons.)

But being a transgender is a choice.
Really? I didn't choose to be male. Did you choose to be female? How? When?
