1542  Economy / Trading Discussion / a16z crypto a $300M venture fund that will invest in crypto companies and proto on: June 27, 2018, 05:43:02 PM
The a16z crypto fund

Today we are announcing the launch of a16z crypto, a $300M venture fund that will invest in crypto companies and protocols. Our fund is designed to include the best features of traditional venture capital, updated to the modern crypto world:

We are long-term, patient investors. We’ve been investing in crypto assets for 5+ years. We’ve never sold any of those investments, and don’t plan to any time soon. We structured the a16z crypto fund to be able to hold investments for 10+ years.
We have an “all weather” fund. We plan to invest consistently over time, regardless of market conditions. If there is another “crypto winter,” we’ll keep investing aggressively.
We provide operational support to entrepreneurs. Our crypto investments have access to the same 80+ person a16z operating teams as do our non-crypto investments. Our operating teams have deep expertise in executive and technical recruiting, regulatory affairs, communications and marketing, and general startup management. We are responsible participants in the governance of companies and the governance of networks.
We are flexible with respect to stage, asset type, and geography. One reason we created a new fund is to have maximum flexibility. We invest at all stages, from seed stage pre-launch projects to fully developed later-stage networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. We’ll invest in traditional financial instruments like equity or convertible notes, and new instruments including the direct purchase of coins/tokens. Crypto is a global phenomenon, with great projects all around the world, and we’ll invest accordingly.
We are focused on non-speculative use cases. We want services powered by crypto protocols to be used by hundreds of millions and eventually billions of people. Crypto tokens are the native asset class of digital networks, but their value is driven by the underlying, practical uses cases.
We’ve assembled a team of crypto specialists to lead our investment effort: myself, Ali, Hilary, Jesse, Denis, Corban, Michelle, and our newest General Partner, Katie Haun.

1543  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-06-27] Florida appoints its own cryptocurrency czar on: June 27, 2018, 05:41:28 PM
https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/florida-appoints-its-own-cryptocurrency-czar-062718.html

The state’s Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis, has concluded that Florida needs to babysit cryptocurrency and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), and established a position for someone to oversee his state’s digital currency craze.

Florida has turned into a hotbed for cryptocurrency. Miami has been called “America’s capital of cryptocurrency” -- a landscape flush with million-dollar condos for sale in Bitcoin and special ATMs that turn legal tender into crypto cash.

What may have spurred Patronis’ attention is a recent cease-and-desist injunction sent to a cryptocurrency exchange in Miami that banned the company from issuing securities to anyone within Alabama’s state lines.

“Other states have identified and are taking action against bad actors in the cryptocurrency industry. Florida must also protect our residents,” remarked Patronis.

“We cannot allow the cryptocurrency industry to expand in Florida unfettered and unchecked with the potential for so many, including our large population of seniors, to be exploited. It is absolutely essential that Florida create safeguards to protect our consumers from fraud. The establishment of a cryptocurrency chief in the state will help protect Floridians from scams,” Patronis concluded.

Florida’s Senate President-Designate Bill Galvano gave his wholehearted support to the plan. “As technology continues to develop, our state needs to be both on the forefront of emerging trends and ahead of the game when it comes to protecting consumers from those who want to scam our residents. I applaud CFO Patronis for putting innovative proposals forward and will work with him on any forthcoming policy changes."

Warren Buffett has been one of bitcoin’s biggest haters since 2013

The Berkshire Hathaway CEO made headlines this year calling bitcoin “rat poison squared” but he has been raising red flags about crypto for five years. A “mirage,” “not a currency,” and “tulips” are some of the descriptors Buffett has used for bitcoin …

1545  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are you trading on? on: June 27, 2018, 05:37:54 PM
I am buying only altcoin for now. My portfolio is only 15% in Bitcoin. Not because I think it is not a great product. But I believe that after EOS and Bitcoin Gold and NANO fiasco and probably TRON fiasco we will see the rise of more solid projects that are undervalued right now.
1546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multiplayer games on IOTA network on: June 27, 2018, 05:31:57 PM
It is slow. Why do people think that cryptocurrencies could compete against Amazon AWS? Cryptocurrencies has many use cases that are better than anything else, but not this one.
1547  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible people have traded their crypto currencies for World Cup ? on: June 27, 2018, 05:30:18 PM
This is a very stupid way of thinking. Countries, where people invest a lot in crypto, do not care so much about football. EUA is not in the world cup. Japan and korea are not so huge.
1548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Undervalued tokens/coins to hold for a year on: June 27, 2018, 05:27:54 PM
Right now I would invest in WeTrust, Tierium, SolarCOin, and Dim. It is unique products that have great ideas about using blockchains in different ways. And all of them are under 10 million marketcap. Could at least double in some months.
1549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Profitable Portfolio 2018 on: June 27, 2018, 05:24:54 PM
I would add Cardano. It could be a top 3 coin really soon after they release PoS. Everybody will jump to receiving rewards for just hodl. ZIL appears to be a great future too.
1550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Watch Tone Vays desperately trying to keep the price going down on: June 27, 2018, 05:22:13 PM
Bitcoin is all about fud and FOMO in the last months. LN is still something a little distance. We need something big to know about to where the price will go. Read just the graphics is not enough.
1551  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you see Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies in ten years? on: June 27, 2018, 05:17:59 PM
I think we will see a lot of things being done using smart contracts. We will not have so many middle mens for everything related to money. Because trust will be on the code and on blockchains not on persons or papers. Sell your house, your car, buy food. Everything related to the commerce will use some kind of smart contracts.
1552  Economy / Economics / Re: Some facts about the global debt... on: June 27, 2018, 05:15:24 PM
People are waiting for a great depression for years. I doubt that we will have another one like that. Every year we are being more productive and new things are being invented. Cryptocurrencies will change a lot of things, but people, government and companies will still need loans.
1553  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-27]Québec Gives Electricity to Cryptocurrency Miners to Generate Revenu on: June 27, 2018, 05:10:49 PM
Soon we will have some major miner companies start to construct theirs on electrical power plants. There are to many complications related to these projects because of it totally dependent on the government accept operations like this one.
1554  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-27] US Authorities Seize Over $20M in Crypto on: June 27, 2018, 05:08:16 PM
Funny fact. One of the leader of the first operation against silk road is know working in a fund that will invest more them 400 millions in crypto related company. A16zcrypto.
1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: At what price would you have NO hesitation to buy Bitcoin? on: June 26, 2018, 04:58:50 PM
At any price. If I have money in my bank account, I will buy. Until today, everytime that I have bought I have profit one year late. And if you have the intention to spend before one year, you should not invest in anything.
1556  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A new way to trade bitcoins to fiat requiring very little trust on: June 26, 2018, 04:01:44 AM
Bitconfirm will act as an escrow service. It could be useful in some situations. But what we really need is a system that does not need that 3 parts are people. We need that the transaction between two persons could go as the old shake hands deals.
1557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin to buy a cup of Coffee? on: June 26, 2018, 03:48:45 AM
Bitcoin using lighting network. It is the only coin that has liquidity in almost any part of the world. LN is fast and cheap. ANd you can trust in Bitcoin network. They do not stop or revogate your rights as other coins have done.
1558  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-22] $17 Billion Deleted From Cryptocurrency Market in 24 Hours on: June 22, 2018, 04:10:04 PM
It seems to me that such attempts to explain the situation retroactively have nothing to do with reality. I have not found a logical explanation for the fall in prices. It seems to me that only one explanation. Someone very influential with big money and opportunities is interested in reducing the price of bitcoin or Ethereum. I am generally concerned about the ease with which hackers break the exchange. Maybe there are no hackers?

I think for the last months' someone or a group of whales from Asia are in need to sell a large portion of their positions. Could be related to new KYC requirements from the exchanges. Every big exchange have changed the rules about this.

Could you show print screen of your trades? I think I will start using bitmex again. But I still need to study more because of in the past I have made some stupid choices.
