How can you jail someone for an unfortunate accident unless there was gross negligence?

Two vessels collided while having access to today's modern location and guidance technology. Clearly there was gross negligence at some point.

Accidents happen. Technology can also fail.
Tell that to the captain(s) who got fired.
163  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone know about making Silver/Gold Coins? on: March 24, 2014, 10:29:48 PM
Any refinery usually has a minimum of 500 oz if you want to get a custom design made..and you have to pay for the dies (expensive!). I make a lot of my own silver bars/rounds/shapes (out of junk 925 silver refined with a bit of 999 shot) and sell them on ebay (people love hand-poured stuff for some reason). Ingots are easiest-I use wood molds out of small toy chests from the craft store (one time use obviously but A LOT easier-and cheaper-than graphite).

I use stuff called daft clay (or "greensand"-you can buy it at lows) when I want to cast specific shapes/things. I made a silver piece of garlic the other day. You'll also need something called a casting flask. But basically its as easy as packing the flask as tight as you can with the clay/sand, pressing the object inside (the flask is two pieces) and then making a channel to pour the silver down. The results are always good. I imagine it would be easy enough to make some kind of a mold of a custom coin w/wax or something and then just use that as your object with the clay/sand. You should check out some videos on YouTube.

As far as the actual melting (if you don't know this already) its easiest to use a "poor man's crucible" and a MAPP Gas (Propane doesn't really get hot enough) torch w/some Borax as a flux.

Good luck!

**Edit: Just read your entire post (*face palm*). I would just work on perfecting the daft clay method because once you get into making dies its a whole different ball game.

You mean the kind of people like Mel Gibson? Any celebrity willing to "speak their mind" in terms of making homophobic/racist remarks is just an idiot. If you have those views, fine. But Hollywood isn't a very forgiving place for political incorrectness.

media logic
tolerance to everyone except for homophobes and racist people

Exactly. I'm saying the way it IS. If a celebrity's beliefs are so strong that they don't mind the effect its going to have on their ability to get hired then by all means, they should express them. But make no mistake-it will effect their ability to get hired.
165  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin QR Code Generator on: March 24, 2014, 09:38:20 PM
Very cool w/the logos in the middle. I always just use bitaddress.org and whatever QR code generator that pops up on Google first. I know you designed your site for public keys...but I have to say (because someone would), don't ever generate a QR code of your private key on any bitcoin-specific generator : /

I want to start a thread where everyone posts their SINGLE FAVORITE meme of all time (does NOT have to be bitcoin related, but cool if it is. and if its homemade, even better). I'm talking the kind of thing that would get you 20+ likes on Facebook LOL. Let's have some fun.

170  Economy / Goods / *PRICE REDUCTION* [WTS] NORFED Liberty Dollar Collection: Silver, Copper, Paper on: March 22, 2014, 05:12:55 AM
Hi everybody,
Up for sale is my collection of NORFED Liberty Dollar Silver, Copper and Paper Bills. I am considering offers and will accept the best one. I am asking $130 (use preev.com for exchange rate) for the set but will consider *reasonable* offers. I am pretty set on selling this as a SET but if there's enough interest in piecing it out to different people, I'll consider that. So if you're interested in a certain piece(s) just PM me and we'll see what we can work out. Price (for the set) includes free trackable USPS Priority shipping anywhere in the US. I will ship internationally if necessary, too. In that case, shipping would be trackable, expedited and best of all, pretty cheap-I will even deduct the price of shipping it domestically. Obviously a number of factors come into play but it would only cost you *about* an additional $10-$15. Please PM me with any/all inquiries. Also ignore posts before today's date (4/24/14).

Pictures show everything included. It is as follows:

1. Silver, $1 2003, 1/20 oz
2. Silver, $5 2006, 1/4 oz
3. Silver, $10 2006, 1/2 oz
4. Silver, $10 2000, 1 oz
5. Silver, $10 2005 PROOF, 1 oz
6. Copper, $1 2007, 1 ADVP oz

10. Copper, $1 2009, 1 ADVP oz
11. Paper Bill, $1 2003, Silver Base $10

Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!

172  Other / Off-topic / Re: I Lost Everything From Mt.Gox's Bankruptcy on: March 10, 2014, 08:36:04 PM
First of all, if this really happened to you I'm sorry. But I REALLY expect you're a n00b trying to mooch some coins, I'm glad the mods removed your address (regardless I guess I am-I don't like cyber-begging...we're all in need). Firefighters have a very healthy pension upon retirement-why did you need to get a job as a janitor. Furthermore, you knew the risk you were taking-haven't you heard not to put all your eggs in one basket. FINALLY, since you did, wouldn't you have looked into the safest way to store ALL of your money, as you claim? Using MtGox as a wallet is about the dumbest thing you could have done. Since you had so much at stake why were you not compelled to make sure that you were protected?
173  Economy / Goods / [WTS] $10.33 of Silver @ SPOT! on: February 20, 2014, 11:54:38 PM
Hey everybody,
I have these scrap silver coins (total 14.76 grams of silver-junk silver is becoming an increasingly popular way to buy silver...the more fractional, the better):

1.1948 Britain Sixpence: 2.82 grams, 50% Ag: 1.41 g
2. War Nickels x 5: 5 grams, 35% Ag: 8.75 g
3. 1969 Half Dollar PROOF (could probably sell for more on eBay): 11.5 grams, 40% Ag: 4.6 g

I will sell them for $10.33 (spot ATM) plus 99 cents shipping anywhere in the US (use preev.com to convert). Reply or PM if interested.

Thanks

174  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Copper bullion bellow spot price on: February 13, 2014, 01:30:18 AM
" All I saw on the first page was IF."

I wrote IF because I dont want to mislead anyone. Buying these copper pennies partly a speculation that someday in the future it will be legal to melt them down simmilar to how it went with silver US coins.

"Copper bullion is worth peanuts anyway."

These are worth double the face value and you can get them from me for below spot in a 60 pound box that fits in your basement, under your bed or in the corner of your room. Of course copper will never be gold or silver and nobody is saying that.

"My solution: have a cigar box and chuck your pre-'83 pennies in there."

Yes I also suggest doing this since they are worth more than double the face value. When you get 60 pounds(100$) by doing this let me know.

"Doesn't it just seem illogical to anyone to pay more than face value for something that is (don't be mistaken...and I don't listen to "ifs") legal tender?
I'm sorry to knock you here and don't want to come off as a troll...but seriously?"

These are being hoarded in such a big way it is silly. Pre-1964 silver coins are legal tender and people pay more than face value. If you have a lot of time you can sort them yourself, or even buy a machine to sort them. Or you can buy them already sorted and sent to your doorstep, of course that costs more than sorting them yourself, but it will save you a lot of time.

Why should you pay more for a 1964 dime? You can find them in circulation. Yes there are not that many, I know. Why? They were hoarded and sorted out manualy and by machines.

"or developed some contraption to filter out the pre-'83s,"

My partner has lots of really really big machines with armored cars coming daily to supply them.

So you agree on the "if" part...good. And as far as your argument for pre-'65 goes, it doesn't make any sense. For one thing, it is legal to melt those down. Pennies are NOT legal to melt down and thus are worth 1 cent. If you believe so strongly that that will change then that is your prerogative-good luck. And I have no goal of acquiring 100 pounds of these, I literally just pick them out of my change.
