1082  Economy / Speculation / Re: I sold at $57, fml. on: April 18, 2013, 12:14:43 AM
selling at $57 was really stupid and if you really don't know what you're doing then you're better off out of Bitcoin. That's the whole thing with the crash, get rid of weak hands.
lol no mercy
1083  Economy / Speculation / Re: Shorting BTC !! (sort of) Looking for Bulls! on: April 18, 2013, 12:13:30 AM
I just wanted to say that using MtGox as a ticker isn't the most accurate, I recommend BitStamp.
1084  Other / Off-topic / Re: Netflix Recommendations? on: April 18, 2013, 12:11:42 AM
Thank you guys. I will take all of your ideas into consideration and watch at least one movie each of you has suggested, as I believe us bitcoiners have to be somewhat likeminded.
1085  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dear Environmentalists, please stop ranting about global warming on: April 18, 2013, 12:09:45 AM
I have taken several classes through Scripps Institute of Oceanography (respected research institute). Their consensus is that a global warming is occuring and that humans are the cause of it. The evidence points to the fact that this is true. And, there is no denying (even if you're a skeptic) cold, hard facts (no pun intended).

The one big question I have is, how were there periods of warming and ice ages before the burning of fossil fuel was even a plausible thought? I bet nearly every timeline presented by an organization that believes in global warming extends back just far enough to make the change in temperature look like it is increasing linearly. View heating/cooling trends since the Earth's formation. Global warming is a natural phenomenon. The only thing we (humans) might be doing is slightly accelerating it.
1086  Other / Off-topic / If you mail me... on: April 18, 2013, 12:01:45 AM
a pre-1965 90% Silver  US Dime, Quarter Half Dollar, or actually any coin containing silver, for that matter, I will mail you back something "cool" and unique, of equal value. If you don't like what I send back and want your coin back, I'll mail it back to you. You just have to mail back to me what I sent you. I have a lot of .999 silver and I'm trying to acquire more 90% coins, and I think this would be a fun way to do it. Along with your coin, send a list of maybe 10 things you're interested in and I'll do my best to cater to your interests. The mail option you choose to get your coin to me is up to you. Since its a single coin , regular stamped mail would work. But I strongly suggest sandwiching the coin inside a couple layers of thin cardboard. Because if somebody feels something round in an envelope, they'll open it. I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me (on the receiving end). But in most of my auctions on eBay, if its just a non-key-date/mintmark coin, just scrap 90%, I mail it first class in this way. Bear in mind that first class mail is not registered, so the possibility of it getting lost is there. It has never happened to anything I've sent, but it is a possibility that I can't be held responsible for. If I receive your coin, I'll let you know (I would hope my history on here proves my integrity).

I am going to limit this to the first 10 people that are interested, to make sure I have an ample supply of worthy things to send back to you guys. Please PM me if you are interested in this-I think it could be a lot of fun.
1087  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]Tickets to Outdoor Concert/"Rave" in San Diego on: April 17, 2013, 09:58:01 AM
man i have been curious. i saw that you went to school for "marxist thought" and yet you are interested in bitcoin, which is the most capitalist/libertarian/laissez faire thing in existence. change of heart?

haha, no-I'm definitely not a communist. I'm actually a libertarian. But I just had tremendous interest in communist nations/societies, probably because it was so contrary to what I believed in, and the fact that I live in the US [insert US insult here]. It was East Asia I became interested in because they truly designed and conceived their own "brand" of communism. China's history is best characterized by the masses working submitting completely for a few (under landlords and imperial rulers, in the past). Because of that, you can probably see why communism was so welcomed in Asia, and even is today as China is technically a communist nation-the masses could rise above their societal statuses to form an egalitarian society and nation. I am particularly interested in North Korea. The country is almost literally a time bomb from Cold-War Russia. No one living in the country knows about the world outside of North Korea, except for that a country called the US exists and they hate them. I believe only a society like Korea, whose history is filled with colonialism and imperialist expansion into Korea by foreigners, which knows how to submit, could today remain a communist state (thats what I want to write my PhD dissertation on).

If you want to see a documentary that will blow your mind, watch "The Vice Guide to North Korea", all parts.

BTW, pheaonix: are you affiliated at all with UCSD?
1088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I don't think Bitcoin is Dead, and what it will take to keep it Alive on: April 17, 2013, 03:33:06 AM
Buy bitcoins, use the services it provides.  That's all it takes.  Keep buying and using, buying and using.  That is the best thing you could do to help bitcoin.
If you are advocating using bitcoin as a currency rather than a way to store wealth, then I agree, you're right.
1089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I don't think Bitcoin is Dead, and what it will take to keep it Alive on: April 17, 2013, 12:18:48 AM
It is not Dead but now with the ASIC mining they are going to limit its exposure to specialized miners.

First was the starter advantage, now has moved to expensive devices. Some people are making money out of this for sure.

Bitcoin must become more available and it is hard to see that happening now with the specialized devices.

No offense, but first of all there are hardly any people mining on ASICs. And I have a feeling a certain company who was going to be the leader in them won't deliver Wink

Also, do you know anything about mining and difficulty? Difficulty increases as more bitcoins enter circulation, moderating the market naturally. I am certainly not worried about whatever (if any) effects ASIC miners will have on Bitcoins in general.
1090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I don't think Bitcoin is Dead, and what it will take to keep it Alive on: April 17, 2013, 12:12:29 AM
Never thought of that, but it would make perfect sense. Maybe it's something wayyy down the line or just a crazy idea, but what if bitcoins became the main currency used online? Buying things internationally is annoying and full of troublesome issues. There are exchange rates that are unfair, it's impossible to know the price of say, you're framiliar with USD and the product is in say-pounds, unless you find a converter. But once again, no exchange rate can be nailed down. If bitcoins became the currency of the Internet, or at least the currency of international transactions on the Internet, I believe demand for such transactions would be greater, leading to more money made-which itself leads to good things (more jobs, new markets, etc).

Anyways, @ the person who said the whole "bitcoin is dead" thing is not even applicable term/thing to believe, I are what you mean. You guys should check put this article. Why makes this fall so dramatic? I believe simply the fact that bitcoins were worth more than they ever had been. That means the next crash will be the most dramatic one, into perpetuity. And that's the way it has been, too. The reason for such commotion each time there is a drop has to just be a consequence of the fact that historically we have nothing to compare it to. Unlike a fall in the stock market or something. People need to think about BTC value drops in terms like that, not "The "Bitcoin Bubble has finally burst". TOO BIG TO FAIL!

1091  Economy / Economics / Who ACTUALLY knows what they're talking about here? on: April 16, 2013, 10:10:20 PM
If I had a bitcoin for every different opinion I've read on them, I'd be rich (even at their current price). Yes, I am aware formal credentials aren't everything, but they obviously are a lot. So, if anyone who posts frequently here or in the "Speculation" thread frequently, I would just be curious of what kind of credentials you have.
1092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why I don't think Bitcoin is Dead, and what it will take to keep it Alive on: April 16, 2013, 09:53:09 PM
I have read other people's reviews, gained a lot of insight, and too feel that bitcoins aren't dead. I'll tell you why.
Its no coincidence that that same [dreadful] night bitcoins dropped almost $100, while gold and silver dropped considerably, too. I can't even buy silver at my local coin store-they're out of stock because everyone bought, because the markets are so low.
Thus, the reason for this drop is artificial. Its a result of the acting of only a few [very powerful] agents. Its the only thing that makes sense.

There was no consensus as to what caused the sudden rise in bitcoins, prior to their drop. Although, debate was minimal (why ask questions if you're getting money thrown at you?). I believe that the aforementioned agents brought about the sharp rise in prices. It was essentially a HUGE pump and dump.

Now we are left with what I believe is a true market (no big players running any schemes). Bitcoins were just gaining publicity, and still are. I am actually somewhat thankful for the prices at the moment, as it may compel more people to buy into BTC. As far as the ease of buying bitcoins-where there is an opportunity to make money, it will be ceased. I am hopeful that someone will come up with a simple way to purchase bitcoins with a credit/debit card. This will make it even easier for new people to get into BTC.

I believe the intrinsic value of bitcoins is their utility, and that their utility is great enough to ensure their survival. By utility I mean ability to send funds anonymously, avoid taxes, etc.

Finally, the infrastructure already exists. There are a number of bitcoin exchanges and services, and what do you think they'll do-just disappear? What I think needs to happen is that Bitcoin needs to become more user-friendly. I guess by that I mean "n00b" friendly. I believe other people realize this, and will capitalize on it as there is money to be made.

Thus, I do believe bitcoins will survive. But I think they will [and must] undergo a major renovation, as they turn into a more  user-friendly form of P2P currency. THAT is the key to their survival.

1093  Economy / Services / Offering Free Escrow Service on: April 16, 2013, 04:16:57 AM
I am offering free escrow service. I have been a bitcointalk member for a while. My trade history is very solid. I'd like to help facilitate more transactions-so I'm doing this for free. Of course, tips are accepted, but not mandatory ; ). Don't pay .01 BTC or any amount for that matter, its silly. Usually members charging that are ones you should probably look twice at, anyways.
1094  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Butterfly Labs on: April 16, 2013, 01:27:54 AM
Are there any news about when they are going to start shipping the asics?

This January interview with Josh from BFL looks promising.
You will need to turn on subtitles.

I love this forum, you can speak your mind without being backlashed. Meaning, admin/mods don't try to delete or hide your threads/posts as long as you stay on topic. But, yea, this forum rocks.

On the other hand, overclock.net kept deleting my post because I was speaking my mind and was staying on topic. Admins/Mods @ overclock.net are fucking censor sopa supporting pussies.

God, I love bitcointalk.org so much. Big fucking hug to you guys.

Edit:

LOL@ this is what they kept deleting. They deleted it 3 times, then told me to go PM some idiot asking why they deleted it, I replied with fuck you, fuck off.

Comment about over AMD bundling games with their graphics cards.

I'd rather see the game pulled and the price dropped on the cards. btw, fc3 sucks. "not free, you guys are blind"

Delete my post, just censor entire overclock.net!
you're intoxicated somehow, huh
1096  Other / Off-topic / Anybody else try to buy silver F2F at a shop today? on: April 16, 2013, 01:21:30 AM
Did they have any inventory? What did they charge over spot for a generic 1oz bar/round? How about for $1 face value/90%coins?

I went to my local coin store thats my favorite-completely sold out of silver, even 90%. I went to a coin shop that is literally across the street, tucked into a corner, so no one really knows about it and was very happy with what I found! I bought a tube of generic Buffalo 1oz rounds for .50c/piece over spot. Also bought some 90%...$17/$1 face value. Not bad!

I  don't know about "evolve" you, but I did acid once and it was pretty crazy (in a cool way). Shrooms I didn't like as much (plus they taste TERRIBLE)

1099  Other / Off-topic / Netflix Recommendations? on: April 16, 2013, 01:03:50 AM
Hey everybody,
I have a Netflix account (the streaming kind). I'm wondering if anyone has any good recommendations as far as movies, tv shows and particularly documentaries. I am not into any of the prison/solitary confinement documentaries as I find they depress me (sersiously). But I loved Cocaine Cowboys I and II the documentaries. I watch old CSI episodes (getting a little tired of those). I'm not really into the "legalizing marijuana" documentaries (there are a lot). I'm also not into watching anything thats too extreme or could be depressing (a documentary I watched about meth comes to mind). I love Boyz in the Hood type movies, Godfather or any Mafia type movies (keep in mind I've watched most of the mainstream ones on there), and especially documentaries. I don't really have an interest in starting a new TV show (unless its really good). Kind of all over the place, but does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks
1100  Economy / Services / Re: Medical Consult for Bitcoins on: April 16, 2013, 12:54:28 AM
Unless I missed it, I can't believe I am the first person asking this-do you have any credentials to show?
Yes, you have answered people's questions, but that does not mean 100% that you are a doctor. You could be a nurse, physicians assistant, student, or maybe even just have memorized Grey's Anatomy (not quite serious on that last one).
Whenever I am going to see a Dr, I look up their history and use a service to verify that they received their degree where they say they did, did their residency where they say they did, have had no malpractice suits against them, etc.-and that is among people I know for certain are licensed physicians.
I really don't mean to discredit you if you are in-fact a doctor, but I am amazed that no one has even thought to verify your credentials. A few posts above me I see another guy saying he is an Orthopedic Surgeon. Well, I am a Trauma Surgeon. See what I mean-I can be ANYTHING I want online. Before I take your advice (and I suggest before anyone else does, too) I would have to see verification that you are in-fact a licensed doctor. Don't call it "trolling", call it due-diligence, which, when it comes to health, really shouldn't have any boundaries.
