1621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tyler Winklevoss: BTC is not a hedge to pandemics on: March 26, 2020, 06:53:55 PM
First, Bitcoin dropped like everything else on the markets.

Then, unlike the rest, it has started to recover.

How is it not safe haven?

Some might say it just reacted quicker than stock markets. It's traded 24/7 worldwide unlike markets with circuit breakers and closing times. It's going to plunge quicker and deeper so a recovery will be quicker and higher too.

To convince me it's not correlated to overall sentiment it would have to do its own thing for several weeks in a row and I can't see that happening. It is of course welcome to do that if it wants to.
1622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Holders actually bought BTC during the crash? on: March 26, 2020, 06:51:34 PM
There were people on the Wall Observer thread who were buying hard in the $4000 range. There were also people running around like headless chickens who sold at that moment too. The golden rule is always to do the exact opposite of what your emotions want you to do. Hardly anyone can do that but if you can you're forever ahead of 99% of people.
1623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese people, here they come on: March 26, 2020, 11:16:18 AM
If Japanese people were going to run in and save us they would've done it several years ago as they've had the opportunity all along.

I have genuinely never in my life seen any trader anywhere mention JPY volume or pay any attention to it. That says enough about adoption and interest there.

They love their cash above all. It's also revealing that I remember Roger Ver saying that everywhere he went and told locals about BTC they were intrigued, the only exception was Japan where the majority decided it sounded scary.

Japan will get there in the end alongside everywhere else but if it was going to lead it would be doing it already. It has tools and options few others places do.
1624  Economy / Economics / Re: CoronaVirus USA - Open by easter? on: March 26, 2020, 11:11:16 AM
Politicization of the virus is what we are seeing in the last few months. All of them (I didn't notice any exceptions) are using virus to promote
themselves and their parties.

I've seen this bitcoinerish attitude expressed multiple times recently. At times like these it looks puerile.

Wannabe dictators like the Hungarian administration and proper ones like Russia will use it to suppress some extra dissent and ramp up fear of foreigners.

Elsewhere I haven't seen a great deal of evidence of that though I'm sure it's a handy opportunity to offload some bad news and tweak the odd awkward element. No government wants to drive their population insane with isolation and impoverish millions of them but there ain't much choice.

1625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tyler Winklevoss: BTC is not a hedge to pandemics on: March 25, 2020, 11:23:58 PM
No one? Lol!!!!!!!!!
It was more like everybody!
Should I start posting here all the topics how BTC is saving people from war, famine, economic meltdown, even wildfires?
There were topics right on this forum, about how BTC is not affected by the coronavirus, all the meme of the honeybadger not caring?

Common, a lot of people saw this crisis as a launchpad for BTC, a lot of people have some weird fetish that is the world is going to end you will make it with BTC.
No, a lot believed that BTC was a safe heaven that people scared from the virus will buy the coin and dump stocks.
It didn't happen.

I can't believe anyone thought this would be 'good for Bitcoin'. Some sort of economic shock in isolation, maybe, but that's always bilge too. Definitely not something of this magnitude. You'd have to be a legitimate nutter to think that but I think we probably have enough of those.

I've never believed a proper recession would do it the slightest good and we might be on the cusp of a big 'un. Alternatively they might blag their way out of this with some truly shameless moves which theoretically would be beneficial for Bitcoin's perception. We're not going to know until a few months have passed.
1626  Economy / Speculation / Re: Three economic signals that indicate that Bitcoin will see an increase on: March 25, 2020, 10:59:35 PM
When I saw this Bitcoin crash I knew it was a panic move. There was nothing normal about it and many people like Snowden also saw it and talked about it. When people realize there's nothing wrong with Bitcoin and stocks, gold, silver, oil are going down too, they will start buying it all back. Bitcoin will go up.

I dunno. There won't be shocks of that magnitude again of course, that can only happen once every few years, but I'd rather that than a slow fart downwards from hereon out which is quite possible.

There's a lot of potential grind ahead and a lot of jolliness has just flown out the window with little idea of when it'll return. I will hope for the best and expect the worst.
1627  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming links to blog, copy/pasting articles, moderator' opinion is needed on: March 25, 2020, 10:51:35 PM
I've noticed and reported a few of these in the last day or so. Some are linking to something vaguely related to crypto with some weedy discourse before the link to the blog, the last one was to an escort agency.

I report it as hawking shite and move on. They seem to be being dealt with.
1628  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else think "long term" hodlers are idiots? on: March 25, 2020, 07:31:43 PM
The WO thread is a clique. There is nothing of value to see there.

You're probably right about that bit, but he's right about the breakdown of your timing.

How is it possible that you're out of pocket? If you'd arrived in 2015 and bought you will have much done better than me who bought through late 2013 and into 2014. I'm certainly not complaining but I could've been 2-3x further up than I am for the same outlay and I'm doing well anyway.

The only explanation is trading and that's something that never crossed my mind as many casualties of this thread will prove.
1629  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for uk ebay account owner that wants make some money. on: March 25, 2020, 07:26:16 PM
A seller on Ebay UK has to wait 180 days to be completely immune from Paypal charge backs, not sure what the deal is with other countries. And getting from GBP Paypal funds into USDT takes extra time and money.
1630  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Discussion - Corona Virus Spamming on: March 25, 2020, 07:14:04 PM
Lots of shitposts and shitthreads around it of course, but there are aspects of it that'll impact BTC in a big way so it can be a relevant subject. The economic moves that are happening feel like they've been written by Satoshi.

I'd move some to economics, bin plenty of course and the rest to politics and society.
1631  Economy / Economics / Re: CoronaVirus USA - Open by easter? on: March 25, 2020, 07:08:12 PM
To be fair, isn't every politician some form of a huckster - wanting to give out false hope even if it's a lie.

He's just a more heavily monitored/criticized one.

I'm sure every politician would love to go out and give hope right now. And part of me thinks it isn't a bad thing even though it's probably a bold face lie. The 24/7 Armageddon coverage on CNN does get old after a while.

For better or worse he does have a point. I'm sure many other leaders are thinking the same thing but they're not deranged enough to voice it. At some point if it does look like it's going to be an infinite bleed a decision will have to be made to live with it rather than put the entire world in deep freeze. I think it'll be the US that breaks ranks first if that is the situation.
1632  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 25, 2020, 01:50:38 PM
Is that a sex thing? It sounds like one of your sex things.

No. These days I'm about as sexy as Liberace, the public version rather than the randy baldie behind closed doors.

Prince Charles tests positive for corona Cheesy

So the disease has jumped species. Why isn't this bigger news?
1633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 25, 2020, 01:13:46 PM
One of the symptoms is a metallic taste in the mouth right? Or is that made up?
Anyway I've had a disinfectant taste for a couple of days. Probably one of the many supplements I've been guzzling. Maybe apple cider idk. Will experiment.

It's no taste is it not? I've seen a few mentions of metallicness but that was an after effect.

That reminds me of a Christmas as a kid where I scoffed 4 cheap arse chocolate mousses in a row. That left me with an overwhelming plastic aftertaste that didn't leave until the decorations were down. I was going to get my skull steam cleaned.
1634  Economy / Economics / Re: CoronaVirus USA - Open by easter? on: March 25, 2020, 12:26:20 PM
Impossible.

It's totally possible it just might be very, very inadvisable. Anyway the man himself has said he's taking advice and will consider it on a day by day basis. If they tell him it's armageddon I presume for once at least he may listen and ease off.

He's basically a huckster who tells people what he thinks they want to hear. This is more of the same.
1635  Economy / Economics / Re: CoronaVirus USA - Open by easter? on: March 25, 2020, 11:35:31 AM
An Oxford study suggests half the UK population already has or had the corona virus: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/oxford-study-coronavirus-may-have-infected-half-of-u-k.html

While that may sound bad initially, what it really means is this:

Quote
If this modeling is confirmed in follow-up studies, that would mean that fewer than .01 percent of those infected require hospital treatment, with a majority showing very minor symptoms, or none at all.

So it may turn out the corona virus is insanely infectious but also has an extremely low mortality rate, and even a low rate of expressing symptoms at all. If this model is correct, we won't flatten the curve by stopping the spread through containment. The curve will flatten because the virus will run out people to infect.

If other studies confirm these findings in the coming weeks, it will be a real game changer.

I would love that to be true but it seems too good to be true, just as the millions of dead figures are too far the other way. I have zero doubt that the actual mortality rate is vastly lower than will ever be known or reported.

Maybe Donny is making the right call in this case. He does have a weird feral instinct. But the sad thing is we'll never who had the right or wrong strategies until it's too late.
1636  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin reach $ 3884 again? on: March 25, 2020, 11:24:22 AM
BTC drops 63% in a crisis, and you think that makes shitcoins more attractive? Grin

He's gone BSV. This is now a recognised medical condition but sadly research into it has been sidelined by the current crisis.

Symptoms include believing your piece of shit is somehow immune to all the problems that ever single other project has. As the infection takes hold reason and the ability to reason gradually shuts down until the patient is in a state of critical denial and cannot be reached by any means at all.

They feel an urge to force their points of view on others at a time when it's vital that they're placed in absolute self isolation. As of right now there's no known cure.

The WHO has advocated sticking a fork in them and leaving them on the Andaman Islands.
1637  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dont let them fool you. We will see a NEW BOTTOM. Maybe BTC at 3400$ again? on: March 25, 2020, 11:12:56 AM
I agree with ChiNgadOr and that's why I'm now a supporter of BSV.

All the signs were there. Looks like the infection took hold, there's no way back and now the only things left are 'thoughts and prayers'.

You forget that if BTC fail, all other crypto project will follow - and that is including that crypto-exchange you are working now, and that project you are shilling.

This reminds me of the phase that r/btc went through. They latched on to the idea of Tether being the thing that would 'bring Bitcoin down' and spent weeks ghoulishly fingering their toilet areas in a frenzy as they pondered the various scenarios in which it would play out.

They could not muster up the calories to make the cognitive leap that it just might affect every other shitcoin very much too including their own one.
1638  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC HODLers are getting all the new technologies for free! Why? on: March 25, 2020, 10:52:00 AM
OP, I know thinking can sometimes feel difficult and scary but with counselling, intense prostate massage and lots of physio you too can learn to use the big squishy thing inside your skull that tells you things at night.
1639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the best place to talk to traders that ACTUALLY know what they're on: March 25, 2020, 10:34:15 AM
Reddit is kinda okay, but there are so many trolls there.

All depends on which bit you end up on. The one I linked to above comes down hard on the plainly moronic in a way this place could do with sometimes and others take the time to keep discussion relatively sane and serious.

Certain subs seem a lot more stupid. r/cryptocurrency is filled with shitcoin shills who are still 100% convinced their little shit will take over the world as soon as Bitcoin 'dies'.
1640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the best place to talk to traders that ACTUALLY know what they're on: March 25, 2020, 10:21:18 AM
Bitcointalk is pretty shit for actual trading talk.

https://old.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/ is probably the closest thing to what you're thinking of with a daily trading thread but most people there are whiny bitches whose sentiment turns on a dime just like everywhere else.

There'll be much more serious and dedicated channels out there but strangers would not be welcome with their Lambo talk or 'Omigodweallgonedie' when the price drops 10 bucks.
