1261  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2020, 08:53:41 PM
A massive effect but yeah, it was far from immediately in 2016. The real fireworks SHOULD be 2021 but honeybadger does what honeybadger wants to do.

One of the most interesting stats of recent times was that Grayscale and Cash App have been eating 52% of mined supply. I dunno if they're guessing they get it all from miners or whether that's a fact. I imagine Grayscale would prefer to.

That's two companies in one country that will be consuming more than the entire mined supply in a few days. And things are still pretty dead.

This is where the human incapacity for conceiving of large numbers tends to break down, especially if you're a beary type.
1262  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-05-06] Bitcoin Halving: Bitcoin Could Be About To Make Another Major Move on: May 08, 2020, 08:44:24 PM
We are 6 days before halving and the price of Bitcoin has already started increasing.

And it'll likely start decreasing as soon as it's been and gone.

It would be great if this were the start of something but I just can't see where it'll come from. This is being grabbed the usual suspects as a way to turn a buck as it's one of the most reliable sell the news events out there.

The most interesting thing that's occurred in this run up has been that Tudor bloke declaring he's placed some futures bets on Bitcoin because of government monetary policies. If other heavyweights decide the same thing then we might off on an interesting journey.

And it doesn't matter if Average Joe is broke. He'll be the last to arrive to be shat on anyway, if he has any money left.
1263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decentralized services? on: May 08, 2020, 08:22:44 PM
Confused getting replies saying it can be taken down and getting replies saying it can be taken down but near impossible due to the sheer amount of work needed to go after each seeder, which one is it  Huh

The biggest threat with anything 'decentralised' by far is the people who maintain and run them giving up on them. Most of the projects blaring their enormous capabilities and plans probably have 1-5 people running them.

This space is absolutely littered with dead and abandoned projects. I'd never put any valuable data or depend on something that wasn't already bestriding the world and there isn't much crypto esque that manages that.
1264  Other / Meta / Re: Greed or Need? What's changed with bitcointalk ? on: May 08, 2020, 08:16:44 PM
I haven't noticed anything different in recent times. I've been a soulless whore since about 2014 ish and have a pretty remarkable haul for the price of my soul, which I was willing to give away for very little anyway.

If I was positioning myself as some sort of authority or 'thought leader' then I might not have done so. But I'm a silly sausage and aspire to nothing more.

And what's so holy about legendaries anyway? They're just creeps who've crept around for longer than others.
1265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency TV series appearance on: May 08, 2020, 08:11:57 PM
To measure maybe it has positive impact or negative impact can be determined by the role in which the crypto play in the series.I have come across bitcoin being mentioned in many film but when the scenario in which it was used is bad then it bring a negative impact. For instance, a movie about a criminal wanting to be settled for ransom through bitcoin might generate a negative thought

The sooner it's treated as a fact of life rather than a cheesy plot point is when we know it's starting to go places properly. When it becomes the centrepiece of the story it's usually deeply offensive to anyone who actually knows anything about it.

One of the first mentions of Bitcoin I ever saw in TV and Film was in a sci fi TV series called Being Human about android cops or something. That was late 2013 and they were paying each other with 'Bitcoin sticks' like it was what people unthinkingly did every day.
1266  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: May 08, 2020, 08:07:04 PM
Interested to see what'll happen when conventional academia starts to strip Craigy of his baubles.

Cryptoland is so full of shit and shit heels it would've been quite possible for him to keep enough people touching themselves at the idea of him for long enough. If he starts to be pulled apart by the real world outside too I wonder whether they double down on their furious ononism or go quiet.

I guess it'll be framed as an attack by 'Them'.
1267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: EVOLUTION OF SIGNATURE AD CAMPAIGNS (BEGINNING DAYS TO THE PRESENT) on: May 08, 2020, 08:02:01 PM
Hah, there were nice days in which you was able to recieve 0.1 btc/month...

I recall some of the earliest ones were well over 1 BTC a month. My best effort was 0.18 a week for a while. Of course that was peanuts in 2015. The idea of getting $1800 a week for a bunch of dick jokes just goes to show the magic of Bitcoin.

Kudos to OP. I knew there were more than a few but didn't realise it was that sprawling.
1268  Economy / Economics / Re: Layoffs Start Turning From Temporary to Permanent Across America on: May 08, 2020, 06:29:45 PM
I don't think there's any way of knowing what economies will look like at this stage. It might surprise us all with a rebound or it might be the beginning of the rout of the millennium.

A lot of elements have been barely staying afloat. You can keep a company in suspended animation but when you wake it up there's a good chance there won't be a market for it to service.

It's always been clear that there's a balance between populations dying vs the economy dying. The way it's been said out loud could do with a little working on.
1269  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you have any proof people buy BTC to crash the market? on: May 08, 2020, 06:19:40 PM
Every crash follows human nature. Excitement builds, slowly grows, gradually becomes a mania, then a whirlwind and then one person thinks 'wait a second, why did I pay so much for this shit?' and then everyone else rapidly realises the same thing and it collapses.

Human nature doesn't change. The idea that something of that magnitude is an artificial construct ignores the more obvious explanation. It's possible it could be ignited by artificial means but it won't get anywhere unless real people latch on to it.
1270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so what to do with USDT ?! on: May 08, 2020, 05:29:11 PM
btc/usdt is for traders not holders .ofc in the end u can sell your btc or usdt witch depends on your country.but usdt is more safe to keep .if im going to sell btc first i change it to usdt because usdt is alwasy 1 usd .or for trade if i see price will go down i change my btc to usdt and wait for drop and then i buy btc again.

USDT is 'safe' in the sense that it's supposed to remain at a set price. It's not safe in any other way. It's possible the $1 peg will collapse. It's also possible USDT will disappear completely. I'd never spend any significant amount of time parked in it especially when there are enough real dollars out there.
1271  Economy / Exchanges / Re: From UK, Understanding Investing Jargon help on: May 08, 2020, 03:39:45 PM
Okay so am I obliged to fill out the tax section form on coinbase to prevent disruptions to my coinbase account?

I doubt there'll be a single reference number or box that needs filling in that'll make sense or apply to you.

I've never heard of any Brit talking about this. Ask support if you're not sure but I'd ignore it unless they nudged me. They're going to know what jurisdiction you're in.
1272  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitmain co-founder in legal war against shareholders of the company on: May 08, 2020, 10:52:08 AM
https://twitter.com/DoveyWan/status/1258667286455398401

Slightly hard to tell what's going on here but it looks like that some sort of licence pertaining to Bitmain was physically grabbed by Jihan's goons in a government office.

Had there been an IPO and stuff I wonder what their respectable shareholders would make of stuff like this. Maybe it's business as usual in China. Dunno.
1273  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sudden fall in bitcoin price after successful halving, Post-halving prediction. on: May 08, 2020, 10:06:36 AM
I'm thinking it's pretty much in the bag.

Which means that's less likely?

There's a lot of strangeness going on in the world, Bitcoin has been bouncing along at dull price levels with the occasional moment of terror for what feels like forever. Maybe it'll remind us why we're here with some action no one is expecting.
1274  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2020, 12:03:15 AM
Nice. Things are going better.

Remember though: It's not that bitcoin is worth more. It's that fiat is worth less.

Am relatively confident I didn't pay 3x more for my shopping than I did a couple of months ago. I'll check again.
1275  Economy / Exchanges / Re: From UK, Understanding Investing Jargon help on: May 07, 2020, 10:50:42 PM
Hi at coinbase pro, on profile information section part of the site it says Taxes status missing.

Im from UK and understand coinbase is in USA.

Can coinbase pro have the legal right to stop withdrawals or freeze my account in future if I dont fill out that taxes section?

I've never heard of a Brit having anything from Coinbase regarding tax. It's purely for Americans as far as I know.

It might be this? https://help.coinbase.com/en/pro/taxes-reports-and-financial-services/taxes/1099-k-tax-forms-faq-for-coinbase-pro-prime-merchant.html  That's the one people mention most often.

It's also triggered only over a certain amount of volume or transactions.

May as well ask them if you're unsure.
1276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so what to do with USDT ?! on: May 07, 2020, 09:57:22 PM
How much cost fee withdrawl USD in Kraken?

It's all here - https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000423043-Fiat-currency-withdrawal-options-fees-minimums-and-processing-times-

But I'm not sure how good their USD banking is compared to EUR. They seem to have used piece of shit third party payment processors in the past who've caused users problems. I'm not sure what their current set up is at the moment.
1277  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin price history and the expected events in the coming halving on: May 07, 2020, 08:08:40 PM
In other words, due to halving... inflation will go down (not instantly but it'll be cumulative thing that sneaks up).

Inflation goes down instantly to 1.8% per year the moment it halves. That doesn't mean all that much for price if there isn't demand. Demands comes and goes. When demand does arrive that rubs against the reduced production rate, note that it's not supply which people usually mention. Existing coins are supply too.

Also, the limited supply versus a growing demand (due to the scarcity of btc) will be the driving force towards.... future ATH's?

I'm just trying to make sure that I'm understanding and following the discussion correctly. Please feel free to correct me if I misunderstood.

Yes. If we look at the bubble of 2013 there were maybe at most a few tens or hundreds of thousands of people getting excited, perhaps over a million at the absolute max, and their only option to buy was through some pretty obscure routes. You had to seek them out, some were seriously dodgy. At the same time 1.3 million new coins were arriving per year and approximately 65% of all coins had been mined.

If there was a bubble in a couple of years from now it's quite likely tens of millions of people would be getting excited with much smoother and much more prominent, legitimate and capable on and off ramps. There'll be just over 300,000 new coins arriving per year and around 90% of all coins will have been mined.

In that 7-9 years a whole quarter of all the supply that'll ever be was mined. That final 10% will take 120 years to arrive.

Of course prices are much higher than back then but there was no such thing as institutional money, there'll be many times more people getting involved and education about it was vastly lower.

You know guys that this time we say goodbye to 4 digits for good?

 Wink

Every time someone says that they guarantee a return to the 'never go below again' price within 1-48 hours.
1279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so what to do with USDT ?! on: May 07, 2020, 07:03:07 PM
unfortunately most of those regulated exchanges r either not supported in my country or look really suspicious to me ! no need to get into details, but i cant even activate my account on bitstamp because my country is not listed there ! coinbase is NOT supported where i live, so am down to kraken now and i have a simple question, is working with them as simple as:-

- create account
- get it verified
- deposit funds in BTC (they call it XBT)
- sell my XBT for USD (NOT USDT)
- my money is USD will show up in my kraken account (real Fiat)
- I will withdraw it to my bank account in my own country of residence, or even hopefuly paypal.

plz clarify this to me,

thanks,

If Kraken is your main choice then you're in luck. Kraken is also one of the very few exchanges with a direct USD/USDT market. You can send your USDT straight there and exchange it for USD. No need to lose extra in trading fees and volatility. Kraken's USD set up is pretty creaky compared to elsewhere but at least it exists.

1280  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hedgie Paul Tudor Jones dips his balls in BTC on: May 07, 2020, 06:49:35 PM

Somehow I do not believe that is the real Mr Tudor Jones. His handle being @redxbt might be a clue. He'll probably be trying to sell you a Bitcoin key generating program.

I'll stick his official newsletter and the mentions in places like Bloomberg rather than that tweeting cess pit.
