1641  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Change thermal paste with Artic MX-4 for Antminer S5 on: May 06, 2015, 11:24:57 AM
In my case there was no any visible effect from replacement of thermal paste (also with MX-4).

So?..
1643  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat Sink 8.8mm x 8.8mm x 5.0mm location on S5 on: April 29, 2015, 12:04:21 PM
Thermal conductivity of Arctic Silver glue (!) is about 10 times higher.

So your Arctic 3M8810s are 1) unefficient (comparing to thermal adhesive) and b) dangerous (what if heatsink will drop off and make short circuit somewhere?).
1644  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat Sink 8.8mm x 8.8mm x 5.0mm location on S5 on: April 29, 2015, 11:15:33 AM
What about thermal conductivity of those stickers?
1645  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat Sink 8.8mm x 8.8mm x 5.0mm location on S5 on: April 29, 2015, 04:15:51 AM
Well, you can place it to A plates to provide additional heat dissipation from the chips. Those big heatsinks from another side of the PCB are not enough (it's all about S5's design, bud!).

Be sure that you chose best and non-conductive thermal adhesive (I guess that Arctic Silver will be the best choice for you).

Also check the size of that A plates before applying thermal adhesive.

Speaking of B positions, you maybe can stick little heatsinks on these capacitors too, because they are really hot when S5 is running. But the above step should be enough...

Pay attention to the fins of those heatsinks, it should be oriented accordingly to airflow from the fans (yes, you better use 2 fans if you decide to stick the heatsinks).

p.s. speaking of philipma1957's pictures, you can just play the fool with temperature sensor sticking a heatsink there, but it shows a "weather on Mars" even without that. Just "something like a temperature, somehow related to actual working ambient right near the chips across it".

I'm keeping an eye on your research. Good luck!  Wink

Well, at least Bitmain is here with us and keeps promising. It's better than nothing...

If i would ask for advice, to buy another S2(s) or not to buy - what would Bitmain answer?  Cheesy

1650  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 20, 2015, 08:33:46 AM
For the same price, you can have 3xS5, more efficient and hashing at 3400-3500 GH.
Bad timing to release this one, or the price should be dropped under 640$.
You will need to provide a PSU for each or both those S5...

S2 upgrade kits with BM1384 would have been better right now, or some kind of S6.

Yeah... We are still waiting while Bitmain keep silence... And may be they will continue to keep silence since S4+ should be sold...
1651  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 20, 2015, 08:31:46 AM
Whoa!!!

1. The included PSU cannot be used in countries with a mains power voltage lower than 205V. The PSU will not start below this voltage.

Pretty much has no market in North America then.

You can always use any server PSU, and this one (stock PSU) - sold it to someone who need it or try to ask Bitmain to ship S4 without PSU. I would prefer to buy it without PSU in any case (less shipping price, more freedom to choose reliable and powerful PSU for overclocking).

But with such a price, with such a BTC price, I have serious doubts that I will buy it ever...

hello you've tried this with firmware 4.9 cgminer por antminer s5? worth it? really better? or worse?

Hi! I downloaded it but have not flashed yet. I am satisfied enough with old S5 firmware. I don't like Nicehash.

p.s. have just flashed it, looks OK.  Wink CPU load reduced from 80+% to 22-27%.

UPDATED S5 FIRMWARE RELEASED

ANTI-DDOS PROTECTION & MINERLINK Update.

Some reported better performance with Nicehash/Westhash

Please let us know if there are any issues.

And IF you did not know - here is an alternate FW with Cgminer 4.9.0 and improved support of Nicehash by smit1237.

http://smit1237.asuscomm.com:8080/nicehash/

Some details on how to use it you can find here: https://forum.bits.media/index.php?/blog/173/entry-315-proshivka-dlia-antminer-s5s4c1-ispravlenie-baga-s-ustanovkoi/.

Walk around that FTP if interesting, there are a lot of other firmwares for Bitmain and lketc miners there...

What is required/desireable wattage of PSU for Lightning X6?
1655  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 17, 2015, 04:06:28 AM
well if you mean 'interested parties" in the board.....(ie a working unit even in beta i can help you all with by running etc) you can count me in

if you mean a 'sample board' with test chips and you expect me to know wtf is going on with it ....er probably i should wait till you get the stuff out in production

but hey....I'll turn anything on you want to send me to test 24/7 if the above is...

Well, I would like to play with your board (in the way described in the quote) too. Probably.  Cheesy
1656  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: New info 3/11 on: April 14, 2015, 06:11:35 PM
Bitmain has no interest in selling any hardware. ...PLUS their outrageous shipping cost?

Indeed...
1657  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? EDIT: New info 3/11 on: April 14, 2015, 06:08:59 PM
I have the idea too, that Bitmain is fucking us S2 users over again...

I beleive (what else can I do?..) that they will once send me this upgrade kit for testing and review.  Smiley They can't fool us twice I guess.

We're looking at building bigger boards, specifically one half the size of an S1 blade and one the size of a prisma board, to refit onto existing heatsinks.

novak

Like those that can act as a replacement of existing S2 blades?..   Roll Eyes

It looks already that Bitmain will never release such a boards........
