Roll Eyes
ANTMINER S7? on: January 11, 2016, 11:45:33 AM

BITMAIN? on: January 11, 2016, 11:39:54 AM

Sad

Sad

I am willing to do a long write up on this site. with fair and honest photos and results.

My conditions are simple send the demo when it is ready.

I won't even keep it I would return it or ship it to a customer.

I would just do a fair 7-14 day review.

I will offer even better conditions. I'll pay for this unit, but sure only after getting it in hands and testing for a while. I like to explore something new. And to prove to the community that something is real.  Roll Eyes
1228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6 - Firmware Upgrade Help Avalon6 on: January 10, 2016, 01:10:01 PM
I took this file: openwrt-brcm2708-bcm2709-sdcard-vfat-ext4.img from http://downloads.canaan-creative.com/software/avalon6/openwrt/latest/brcm2708/bcm2709/ (an image for deployment on Raspberry Pi 2. Then I flashed it on SD card with Win32DiskImager. That's all (check the MD5 sum before flashing). Plug an SD card in and turn Raspberry on.
1229  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6 - Firmware Upgrade Help Avalon6 on: January 10, 2016, 04:42:01 AM

the raspberry pi interface has a link to the firmware update page at http://downloads.canaan-creative.com/

but there I see many firmware update files listed so i am very confused:

MM-6.0 Firmware |  MCU Firmware

there's NO documentation available to Avalon 6, anybody have a clue on how to proceed?

the pi interface has links to "MM Upgrade" under the "Status" tab and "Backup / Flash firmware" under the "System" tab

First of all, send them an e-mail containing "WTF? Where is the manual?"  Grin

I have updated a firmware of hashing boards (that link to MM upgrade). New FW brings some ipmrovements, Avalon6 should work at voltage up to 12.8V with it (it's a factoid though).

Follow the link:

Then click on mm.mcs and you'll see this:

Right-click at that page and choose "Save as..." Be sure that the filename is "mm.mcs", not "mm.mcs.txt" or whatever.

Then you know what to do - in RasPi web-interface go to "MM Upgrade" and choose this mm.mcs you have just saved.

It looks that RasPi will update this FW on any newly connected Avalon6 units.

BTW, I have updated a Raspberry FW too. Looks like it started to run more smoothly.  Roll Eyes
1230  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 29, 2015, 06:27:29 PM
Well, I have obtained a RasPi B+ frome some chinese Avalon supplier, so I have successfully downloaded and wrote an appropriate image (downloaded as 76 Mb) and it works well, much faster than preloaded FW.

Is there a way to configure this FW to DHCP? It is still configured with static IP in spite that I choose DHCP and press Save&Apply...  Huh
1231  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 29, 2015, 12:00:48 PM
Is the size 76Mb OK? That is what I am confused with... An image from the first post is about 4Gb...
1232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 29, 2015, 11:40:22 AM
If i want to use RasPi 2 with Avalon6s I should use the file "openwrt-brcm2708-bcm2709-sdcard-vfat-ext4.img" from http://downloads.canaan-creative.com/software/avalon6/openwrt/latest/brcm2708/bcm2709/, right?

Sorry for such a noob's question...  Roll Eyes
1233  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: December 29, 2015, 09:39:15 AM
Be aware that the bitmain fork also intercepts stale work and drops it inside their driver code - before the main cgminer engine gets to see it and decide based on the command line options.
... as can be seen in their fork here:
https://github.com/bitmaintech/cgminer/blob/master/driver-bitmain.c#L1274

I have just sent them an e-mail about this issue. Who knows, may be it will lead us to renewed driver code.  Roll Eyes
1234  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 Fix HW issue on: December 25, 2015, 08:44:43 AM
Only thing that helped was unplug for 10 min from psu, then plug and power up.

This is the first thing you should try to do in case of any strange behaviour of S7s.  Wink
1235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 25, 2015, 05:19:43 AM
Can anyone tell the exact model(s) of USB-I2C adapter which can be used to connect Avalon6s to RasPi? Is there any specific requirements for this adaptor? Where can I buy it?

1237  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s7 issue on: December 23, 2015, 10:58:05 AM
The board may be alive. Try to connect this "dead" board to controller board with cable used by another board, any of those that working normally.

In your case it seems that controller board has no connection with right-most board (if you look from the "front" of S7).

My S7 are getting lots of HW errors and are underperforming
I have 4 of them ,only 1 is getting low HW errors and good performance

The rest of them perform like this one : https://gyazo.com/af319f55fa78b0ed11626611e76888b0
with HW errors around 0.03 % or higher

How can I fix this ?

Why do you think that 0.03% is too much? If you remember, previous generations of Bitmain ASIC miners (S2 for example) had way more HW errors, my S2 ran at 0.9%. But at the pool there was about 1+ Th. So did I lose any valuable amount of hashing power? I guess no.

Also I found that my S7 (Batch6) gives many HW errors right after start, it can be up to 3% in first seconds (I saw it once), but take a look at the HWE percentage after 20-30 minutes...

Does S7 have a voltage setting in the ui?

I guess I saw it before upgrade to December's FW...

Here's a quick binary for the S5 based on bitmain's existing code which will ignore any queue parameter, not discard stales, should be able to ramp up smoothly if you find yourself on a very low diff pool, and use a little less CPU:

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s5/4.9.0-150105/cgminer

Binaries will only be temporary so will not survive a machine reboot.

The following will change the cgminer binary for you (set the appropriate IP address), the default root password is "admin":

Code:
ssh 192.168.1.x -l root
cd /tmp
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s5/4.9.0-150105/cgminer
chmod +x cgminer
mv /usr/bin/cgminer /usr/bin/cgminer.bak
cp cgminer /usr/bin
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

There should be a more comprehensive merge in the future into mainline cgminer, hopefully by Kano. Bitmaintech has provided us both with S5s to support cgminer development.

Can we just take it and use it on S7s "as is"?
