One can be an investor and a miner and play many games on multiple levels, that's exciting!
What games can a miner play?

It will be interesting to see if they plan to incorporate any security features via the Bitcoin Blockchain.

I'm no expert but how could they do that? I keep hearing about all the different uses the blockchain can be used for but haven't really read anything that explains it simply. Is there any articles showing all the different possible uses of the blockchain technology?

It's probably easier to list the things that the Blockchain can't make better.

I bought in at 1000 , 750 , 650 , 450 , 350 , 270 , 350 , 420 , 350

Why are we still going down?
Is bitcoin failing?

It looks like he is right..

Maybe cause it's a bubble?Huh

An "asset" with no intrinsic value???

Best to sell now before it gets to zero.

What did it for me was, as a US citizen, having to report all conversions of BTC to the IRS.  BTC -> USD, BTC -> gold, BTC -> dinner .. all require IRS disclosure.  Basically, it makes Bitcoin irrelevant as a "currency" if you plan on following the rules.  Well played, IRS, well played.

I dont think so.  You are required to pay capital gains tax at the end of the year.  Who said you need to report all conversions?

This. Also, you are assuming that you'll have any BTC-related income to report. I think, for most people this year, the IRS provisions are a Godsend because they can now claim losses.
How do you claim losses if you don't sell your bitcoins for less than you paid for them?

... it is very likely that Draper paid well over $650 for those coins... maybe even closer to $700 per BTC.

Or even a million dollars...

Well played!

What is so well played about it?  Are you a dufus, also?Huh    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Tongue Tongue Tongue    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

One million dollar jokes are universally funny... and frankly, I'm surprised one of the fanatics didn't say it in sincerity. It was well played... just a humorous comment.
And everyone in the universe has used it already. It was as well played as any cliché.

I love the poll this week. It's like leaving a 7-10 split.

Instead of Blockstream, imagine if it was Google. Would you feel the same? Remember, the miners aren't going to let anyone just run roughshod over the protocol and scare away their customers. Perhaps if this puny little 21M enterprise shows any initiative to actually innovate anything rather than pump and dump like every other shitcoin, maybe Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Oracle, etc. will jump in and do something really useful. IOW, although I agree with you in principle, I think you are overreacting over this group. In fact, it's about time there was a whole lot more new blood researching, testing, and hacking Bitcoin's future.

I'm still :

I like how enthusiastic you are about bitcoin but seriously, if you are not stupid from 600~ you could see what is happening (miners dumping coins pushing price down) so you could have 2x more coins than you have.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Lots of Captain Hindsights here.
1690  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: November 21, 2014, 01:22:41 PM

It is possible to design a world representative currency system that is relatively inflation proof by pegging the value of the dollar to a certain amount of energy. The money supply would be changed at the same rate as energy is consumed.
What do you think Bitcoin mining uses?
1691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I feel, Bitcoin is torn in a cold war between two kinds of people! on: November 21, 2014, 07:16:04 AM
This market anarchist wants financial privacy, predictable money supply, and free trade among all people of the world.

Why would anyone want to buy coffee with Bitcoin?  We already have centralized systems that work well for that kind of thing.
Good for you, mate. When you say *We* who exactly are you speaking for?

In this scenario, the rise to $1200 was wave 5 of III, correct?
Yes, I remember.  Wave 3 in this case went from $5 to $1163.
Brilliant!

Note that the first is a question, and the second is a statement.  In between was a clarification.
Nothing personal, it's just that they seem like very different patterns and would be difficult to confuse. I am more confused than ever how this system makes any sense.

Thanks for letting me know that I have to pick one of these two very specific choices. Here I thought all along that anyone could use Bitcoin for any reason they like. Gosh... silly me.
Bitcoin is a game with rules. They are very broad, but absolute. You don't have to play the game, but you do have to follow the rules if you do play. That's the whole idea of transparency. The OP probably didn't intend to form a dichotomy, but was trying to be broad and inclusive regarding general interests in Bitcoin. You don't have to pick sides, but it behooves you to see the nuances of blockchain assets.
1696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I feel, Bitcoin is torn in a cold war between two kinds of people! on: November 21, 2014, 06:31:51 AM
The common enemy is ignorance and fear of progress.
1697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Idea for ASiC resistance on: November 21, 2014, 06:24:59 AM
I saw it as Intel and AMD vs Motorola and IBM. Even Apple switched to Intel eventually because CISC had heat problems with increased cycles. Non-ASIC SHA mining generates more heat for the same reason. Eventually someone would build a single chip to increase efficiency and we'd be back to ASIC mining.

x86 is the CISC architecture, powerPC/DEC is the RISC architecture. CISC has become king.
Ok, I see this is a more complex issue due to instruction set vs core and that's why it's not a good analogy.

You are on the right track, but it isn't yet a war. It is a paradigm shift where idealists and opportunists must learn that they are looking at different halves of the same coin. They must realize they have a common enemy and that Bitcoin needs them both to work together to defeat that enemy.

Oh look. Someone dumped to make sure we would break 350. Didn't see that coming.

How many coins do you actually own? Ballpark figures that is. Is it near 0? Has it always been about....0?

None at the moment. Not sure if i will buy back again. I invest in other things now.

Witch things?
Ripple ?
It looks like you are very smart.
