1681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's Bitcoin's biggest problem on: March 05, 2015, 05:57:44 PM
Is the tech still too complex for the "average" person?

Learning curve.
A lot of people don't want to learn something new if it takes patience and research. If it's like learning a new cell phone game where it takes a minute or two then it's fine for mass adoption. I bet a lot of people click away as soon as they get to the first word they don't understand.
1682  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Check if your BTC-key is vulnerable on: March 05, 2015, 04:17:46 PM
Thanks for that explanation and breaking it down so it's easy to understand.

At least only addresses with spent outputs through a web wallet are possibly at risk, so that's good for me as I keep very small amounts in those. Keep your cold storage cold and only keep a small amount in your hot/spending wallets.
1683  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Check if your BTC-key is vulnerable on: March 05, 2015, 02:03:20 PM
Hmm very interesting thanks for sharing. Can you explain further how a private key get's leaked through a tx hash? i remember people talking about this was a counter-party bug and other online wallets, but I never actually understood how someone can get the PK from a tx hash.

i just sold some bitcoin coins for 0.45BTC
I was confused there, for half a second.
Only a half a second is impressive!
I've read it five times and I'm still confused.

Price just stepping back so it can get a running start to jump over $300 for the 3D EMA crossover.
Bullish  Cool

It's coiling, like a spring, like a cobra, getting ready to ... I'm sorry bulls, but you really gotta step up your game.

Oooh I like that one lamby! You're not all bad I guess Smiley

Price just coiling up like a snake so it can bite the bear in the balls and then sell his hide for over $300 for the 3D EMA crossover.
Bullish  Cool

Do you see any issues with privacy using this application?

For example:
My friends and family know I am into bitcoin but not how much I own. My friends and family know my email address, but not any of my BTC addresses. What if they were to send a transaction to my known email in an effort to discover how much I own?

Send a very small amount to: mysoontobe@exhusband.com

Would the sender be able to discover the receivers addresses, balances and transactions by sending small transactions to their email?
1688  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fair Price of Bitcoin: $518? on: March 04, 2015, 08:07:14 PM
I dunno, you can't really put an equation on the price. Like many others have stated it's a free market and people can sell for whatever price they'd like while other will buy at whatever price they like. THIS IS WHERE THE HUGE UPSIDE POTENTIAL IS. All you need is a large demand with a limited supply and the price could surge very quickly. We saw it in 2013, and I expect we'll see it again.

Question: 32,000$ by mid 2017?

LOL does that mean this poll is going to stay up until June 2017?
1690  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2015, 02:30:13 AM
You guys think $1000 by end if the year Is possible Shocked

Absolutely.
I would not be so sure about that. Considered that bitcoin price was that high only for once in its lifetime and for really short period of time. I would be amused if bitcoin will hit $500 mark this year.

Prepare to be amused.

How many bag holders were created in 2014? I think there will be a lot of sell pressure once we start moving back up through the 300's, 400's, 500's etc.
1691  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Unable to query blockchain.info for balances (API change?) on: March 04, 2015, 01:56:22 AM
Yes it changed, you have http instead of https. They removed http support in December. All requests now must be https://blockchain.info/etc

These last few days we've stayed above the long term resistance line longer than I thought we would. Looks like the downtrend could actually be over.  Cool
1694  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Arielle Lotto - a simple weekly bitcoin lottery I made. Try it out for bits. on: March 03, 2015, 01:59:59 PM
I think the inherent problem is that people don't know if the winner will be drawn fairly. Government lotteries, I believe, usually have big auditing firms watching the process. Perhaps if you made the software open source and somehow made the algorithm that selects the winner reproducible.

You may also build some trust if you gave a portion of the proceeds to charity, the way government lotteries do.

Any links to further elaborate/explain how I could create reproducible results? Maybe generating a seed and displaying it, a week before the seed is used on the json to prove who would win based on the current results? Would be kind of weird to be able to just look up the results of a lottery before it's finished, no?

Also, what charity would you recommend? Are there any big-ish ones that accept bitcoin? (The entire lotto is done in bitcoin, it never touches dollars - and I don't plan on letting it to avoid any possible legal issues). I really wouldn't mind (I'd actually prefer) if I could give at least half of the profits to charity, as long as I had enough left over to pay server fees.

Maybe try incorporating with the block hashes. Give a predetermined time the results will be pulled and a upfront predetermined hash everyone can see. 24 hours later or whenever the drawing is grab the latest hash from the most recent block. Now you just need to convert those hashes into integers and then do some math that will spit out a # between 1 and the number of participants that can be assigned to the users who deposit/play.
1695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Average Age for Bitcoin/Crypto currency users on: February 27, 2015, 08:00:10 PM
26-40 is such a large group that it must be the winner. Also if we consider the boom the internet experienced in the 90s, and that people born in the 70s and 80s who went through that boom are now in the mentioned age, everything adds up nicely.

Yes, people that grew up with the dotcom bubble and the dawn of the Internet in the 90s, have all seen this before.

We, more than the older or the younger millenials, have seen how transformative and how far along, as well as, how long it took for the Internet to mature to what it is now.

The Internet was the first wave, Social Media the second wave, now Cryptocurrency is the third wave.

LOL oh man I can hear that awful dial-up tone in my head when I see that AOL gif. When I switched from 14.4K to 56K I was blown away by the "speed". So much nostalgia... 20 floppy disks to back up my windows 95, 4 floppys for my bootleg copy of DOOM. Super excited about my "giant" 3GB HD...  Cheesy

We've seen a bottom, nothing is stopping this train now.
A slow climb back upto 1000 USD before the next halving.

agree that, i think we will see 300 before march ?

300 in ~24-48 hours

1697  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have 3KW of power that could be used 24/7 but... on: February 27, 2015, 06:27:34 PM
I am not sure if this is in the correct forum but here goes.
This belongs in mining.

I mentioned that I had many dozens of relatively idle CPUs which could be doing other work.
I was told that CPU based coins are not worth the time/effort at this point so I wanted to ask a similar question based on another resource.
That is correct, you can't do anything with your CPUs.

This 3KW of power, I look at as a resource so my question is, what kind of hardware might be worth building or buying in order to general coins which might have some value.
Do some searches on mining hardware. Checkout some ASICs like bitmain's S series.
1698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kim Dotcom : " Let's give Bitcoin a boost " on: February 27, 2015, 05:57:32 PM
People will start to associate bitcoin with underground activities

That's the whole point of bitcoin. It's cash for the internet and ANYONE can use it for ANYTHING just like cash. If I want to sell something legal I can. If I want to sell something illegal I can. If I want to sell a jar of fairy farts I can. All you need is a buyer and seller and that's it. No middle man, no mediator to say what is ok and what is not.
