1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We just hit a new record of average monthly transactions per day on: April 09, 2015, 06:34:02 PM
This does look interesting. Actually very interesting when you compare it to the price chart.
It looks like the usage of Bitcoin hasn't been accepted by the price decline at all.
People find bitcoin useful no matter how much its worth. Now that says something about the longterm success of bitcoin.

Wow, I had no idea I knew so little about Bitcoin.

It's okay.
I joined the bitcoin world in late 2013 like many others.
I started by buying some BTC using SL Lindens. Then I started using coinbase, and then multibit, paper wallets, blockchain.info etc.
In all these applications change addresses do not really apply since it is automated. I didn't learn about change addresses, and how spent/unspent inputs worked until later.

Only $500K away from $260. Let's do this bulls!

Hey everybody! Are we over $800 yet? That's supposed to happen soon right? 2 weeks?
1425  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [PHP] How to get the address from a private key? on: April 07, 2015, 01:04:20 PM
A lot will depend on what PHP extensions you have installed on your server. If you're on shared hosting (like many are) your hosting provider controls what version of PHP is ran and which extensions. Echo out phpinfo(); to see what you have installed. Ones that I have seen you'll need bcrypt, bmath, and an ECC library as well. So I usually just end up using a 3rd party API to do key generation.

Maybe give this one a try, it doesn't have many requirements.

Any chance for a poll update:
What day will GBTC trade openly on the NYSE?
-Monday
-Tuesday
-Wednesday
-Thursday
-Friday
-Next week or later.

I know I'll have my trading window up at market open tomorrow.
Not NYSE but OTC Markets. Monday is my guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if it drags out much longer. I think more people are looking for the Winklevoss type ETF instead of an investment trust.
UITs are mainly buy and hold investments. They have maturity dates similar to CDs and there is little trading with most UITs. If you're looking for something for the big boys to actually trade on an exchange you're looking at an ETF.

1427  Economy / Speculation / Re: Permabull Party Thread on: April 05, 2015, 09:19:35 PM
The massive amount of anti-bitcoin trolls on this forum, reddit and twitter is a blatant sign to me that we are on the right path. Since we're encountering so much opposition we must be doing something right! Bitcoin will rule the internet of monies in a few years then we can all sit back and laugh at the old days doubt and speculation.
No, it only shows that the "trolls" are trying to tell new people that come to read this forum the truth, possibly avoiding them with financial ruin and a future of obsessed gambling addicts.

For the permabulls there is no hope, the "trolling" is not for them, those will just baghold for the end of eternity.

Aww so you're just trying to help people?

Cool gif.

But yes, I'm trying to show bitcoin's huge limitations to help new people make a more rational decision before dumping real money into this.

What's the alternative? "FUDding to get cheap coins?"

Limitations? Have you ever developed your own shopping cart to sell something online and sign on up with a 3rd party processor who not only takes a % of every sale but also charges you $x per month, and sign up for SSL? With bitcoin you can set up your own webstore in a few hours, no 3rd party payment processors fees, no SSL, more money for the merchant, better prices for the people. But you're not for the people, are you?

Better prices for the people? What about volatility that screws everyone over?   http://uk.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-crash-drug-dealers-2015-1?r=US
And if you want to avoid volatility converting to fiat you still need a trusted third party and you need to pay fees.

Fees are usually for consumer protection, it's not because trusted third parties are evil. With bitcoin right now you don't have much fees*, but if something goes wrong and a hacker steals your private keys/coins, it's game over.

*fees are low now that miners print money are profiting from bitcoin's 10% a year inflation, wait for fees to skyrocket as block reward is reduced (even more hilarious since nobody spends/moves coins around, they just hodl them).

What about when volatility makes people more money? There are two sides to volatility you can't pick one side.

Consumer protection... right. Ebay charges you a fee to list your product, sell your product and paypal (same company) charges you to transact. It's not for protection, it's for profit. Want to buy that warranty for $100 extra? Warranties are another fake consumer protection used for profit.  Bitcoin protects consumers from shady companies that offer "free" trials and then continually pull money from their credit card after the fact, you can't pull money with bitcoin. Bitcoin is consumer protection. And if you are dumb enough to store your private keys on your webstore (when it's not requried to sell something), you are asking to lose your money.

You realize transaction levels are at record highs? Yup you're right nobody moves or spends coins.

Keep on trolling, we all appreciate your public service to "protect" people from the evils of bitcoin.

You can set up a "web store" to take Doge just as easily.  While you're at it, don't bother with SSL or even buying a domain name.
Set it up on TOR, as a hidden service, you'll have just about as much business Cheesy

Really? You refute my point about crytocurrency convenience by suggesting I use a spinoff altcoin instead. A altcoin that was created after and only exists because of bitcoin? BTC FTW, maybe I'll flick a satoshi your way one day when your sleeping the street using a curb as a pillow.

What a surprise, a super overhyped shitcoin claiming to have over 100K users before it even launched now labeled a possible scam?
I hope nobody put a single satoshi towards this crap. Their logo is even a total ripoff from litecoin.

Everyone got your buy orders in? I hope so, we are going to run out of train tickets soon, and you'll be left with your smelly fiat.

1434  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if Winklevoss' bitcoin ETF would be the same as Barry Silbert's GBTC on: April 05, 2015, 07:49:36 PM
What if Winklevoss Twins' bitcoin ETF (NASDAQ) would be the same as GBTC (Barry Silbert's Bitcoin Investment Trust, OTCMKTS):

1: NO trades two weeks after official launch, unlikely for ETF, because Winklevoss Twins can't wait to sell their bags (1 million shares = 100k bitcoins), so there would be sell orders soon as ETF goes live!

2: The ETF will only got less than total 75 bitcoins buy orders like GBTC does (GBTC only has 750 shares bid list = 75 btc demand http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/GBTC/quote).

If thing comes out like this, does it mean neither wall street nor average joe is waiting to get in and in fact nobody care about bitcoin?

Why don't you ask hypothetical trolling questions with your main account instead of using a throwaway?

No offtopic bullshit talks, please answer the question itself.
Is "wall street or average joe can't wait to get in" a lie?

What are you guys doing for easter today? I'm going to the inlaws to have cheeseburgers. It's alright I guess, at least it's free food and free beer. Haha that reminds me of a funny joke from earlier this week. I was eating at a taco cart and I asked for frijoles and the dude next to me said "free beer, free tacos, frijoles" We all LOL'ed, it was grand.

Because trolls are gonna troll. Do you spend all day on a forum relative to a topic that you despise? Probably not. What if someone paid you to register and troll that forum??
1436  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if Winklevoss' bitcoin ETF would be the same as Barry Silbert's GBTC on: April 05, 2015, 07:34:31 PM
The Silbert GBTC requires the share holders to own their share for at least 12 months before selling.
Price was $450 per coin 12 months ago, so it's unlikely anyone who bought 12 months ago are eager to sell.
The winkie ETF, as I understand it, does not have this sort of set up. Once they launch their ETF it would be like a gold or silver ETF where anyone could buy in (assuming there are still shares available).

Don't give up yet bears, maybe those sub $200 coins are still coming... I mean elliott wave, right?
 Cheesy Cheesy

This post will be my favourite one in the coming weeks. I really love it! <3

Thanks dumper! I'll have another one ready for you in a few weeks when your shorts get margin called at $330.
1438  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Multisig questions on: April 05, 2015, 06:23:54 PM
I spent a good few hours yesterday learning multisig. It was really fun, but that's because I like troubleshooting, digging for info and learning new things. It's actually pretty cool once you get the hang of it. It's a bummer they haven't added any UI for multisig on the bitcoin core client yet, but I think they have more important/high priority things to work on that's not multisig.
