1181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2015, 09:22:33 PM
Seems that 240 USD is holding as some kind of resistance at the moment.
Neither bear nor bull are able to send us in either direction.
I thought we'd get to 250 by the end of the weekend, there's still time left but we seem to be at a crossroads at 240.
Can anybody hazard a guess which way we are set to go in the short term?

Thanks

I'd say down for the short term. maybe another $5 - $10 drop, before we try to swing up again at the $250 barrier.
1182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin be around in 5 years? If so, what's its price? on: May 09, 2015, 09:19:46 PM
Bitcoin will absolutely be around in 5 years, at this moment in time it's almost impossible to predict what the price will be.
There are so many possibilities.
We have the halving in summer 2016, Winklevoss twins will probably have their COIN ETF with NASDAQ approved, their Gemini exchange will be up & running, the NY Bitlicense will have been approved.
Plus there will be massive mainstream adoption by then.

If I had to have a guess at the price in 5 years I would conservatively say $2500 with room to be even more.

That's very conservative for you LFC. Did you miss a zero or two in your prediction Wink
Seriously though, $2,500 would be my low end guess. That would be the crashing price, the bitcoin is dead price after it rises to $10K+

He's just spamming a crappy alt coin, hoping for some green candles so he can sell right back into sweet BTC.

IIUC, that is not an altcoin.  It is that Swedish BTC fund; supposed to be like COIN, except that it is traded on the Swedish stock exchange, and is already operational.

pls understand that bittrex is alt-coin-exchanger...

OOPS, sorry.  EKN is the altcoin, right?

aye fools ~ imo this is why BTC is running ====> https://www.bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-EKN

~ trust me !!! 1337 ~ Lol

The volume so far is impressive, but what is the nominal asset value (NAV)? Each BTC-EKN share = 0.0001 BTC? So it is trading at 60% under the NAV, is that it?

Quoted: this is how low he went once^

lol. Just like crave or that dude yesterday pushing sling...

Who needs a whitepaper when you've got fancy infographics?

Reminds me of that movie where they were watering the crops with Gatorade...

Idiocracy by Mike Judge the guy that made Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill cartoons.
Haven't seen that movie in a long time...
1185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin be around in 5 years? If so, what's its price? on: May 09, 2015, 08:12:25 PM
I think with after this month, I am confident bitcoin will be around in 2019-2020.

Agreed with the first legit and licensed exchange in NY (even though itbit is a foregin singapore corporation), the launch of bitcoin on NASDAQ Stockholm May 18th, and the active trading on OTCQX markets with GBTC puts bitcoin in a very solid foundation for the future. It is being taken seriously by more and more people and organizations every year. When this thread started in July 2014 people still dismissed BTC as a ponzi or pryamid scheme. We all got excited when merchants started adoption and now this year it's going on legit exchanges around the world. The smart money came in, and now we are opening up the institutional investors phase. Coinbase, Circle, 21 Inc are steadying their sights as the masses. 2016 will mark the block reward having, the block size increase and new apps from start ups. There's no doubt BTC will still be happening in 2019.
What will the price be? No idea, but the simple rule of supply and demand with only 21 million max coins makes me a regular buyer every paycheck.
1186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has anybody witnessed the same: "Staircasing" up and down since mid January. on: May 09, 2015, 08:00:34 PM
Isn't it a saying with stocks/trading? They take the stairs on the way up and the elevator on the way down.
1187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Вo you protect your anonymity? on: May 09, 2015, 07:58:12 PM
I don't know if anyone else aside from me do this method, but I find it really easy and helpful: I send my coins to an exchange and withdraw it to an another address. The coins are very hard to be linked to a single address or trace as to where the coins go because apparently, the coins most of the time stay in that address even though you withdraw your funds into an another address.

I've done the same in the past. When I send to btc-e and then withdrawal a few days later it usually comes from a different address making the linkage very difficult.

1189  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have USD 2000 to invest. Should I buy Bitcoins or gold? on: May 09, 2015, 04:23:39 PM
Bitcoin is supposedly a better money than gold when you evaluate it according to all the characteristics that make for good money, it's divisible, fungible, durable, portable, identifiable, and scarce.

How many people actually use BTC as money on a regular basis here?

Most people seem to treat it like an asset, hoarding and holding hoping for the moon.

I just recently put 0.5 on my cellphone mycellium app wallet, that was a big deal for me to commit to having a hot cellphone wallet. There's only one restaurant I can find here in San Diego that accepts bitcoin so I haven't had a chance to use it.  I'm waiting for that day I'm at one of my regular places and I see a BTC sign so I can whip out my phone and use it  Grin
1190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do You have a Bitcoin Full Node running (24/7)? on: May 09, 2015, 04:16:31 PM
So is a Full node basically just running Bitcoin-QT?

All day everyday and open port 8333, otherwise it's not a full node.

Running it 5 minutes a day and only allowing outbound connections its still called a full node, as long as it can sync in that time. A full node is any network node that is capable of enforcing all the network rules.

Maybe by definition, I run my bitcoin core about once a day to sync up and have a full copy of the blockchain, but I only run it for maybe 30 minutes. I wouldn't consider myself running a full node.

"OTQ" data from the GBTC quote page at OTCQX.

Buy some BTC already Stolfi! I know and you know you want to Wink
Look at that volume grow! You know, GBTC consisted of 0.5% of the entire OTCQX market today in USD volume.
1195  Economy / Speculation / Re: SecondMarket Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: May 09, 2015, 12:53:27 AM
The #1 in USD volume on OTCQX today was RHHBY (Roche Holding Ltd) that did $21 million. GBTC did $750,020 in USD volume today. That's 3.5% of the #1 traded symbol of the QX market, not a bad figure IMO. Today there was a total $125 million in volume for all of OTCQX market. If you calculate it GBTC was 0.5% of that. Not a bad slice of the pie if you ask me.

1196  Economy / Services / Re: YoBit.Net - Signature Campaign - Realtime Payouts (daily) on: May 09, 2015, 12:40:11 AM
daily payout is a good idea but the pay rate is very low Sad

Makes sense though. If payout is daily then a user could technically leave the campaign in a day and the ad only received one day of visible exposure. When pay rate is weekly then those guys received a whole week of ad exposure.

21 inc. Is going to give away free or cheap appliances that will mine bitcoin for you and them.  75% of bitcoins to 21 inc. And 25% to the consumer.  This will put bitcoin into ordinary people's pockets.  Can't wait to see that program roll out!

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/05/06/bubblicious_bitcoin_bonkers_business_bods/

It'll backfire on 21inc. It'll only be a matter of time before someone hacks/patches the one line of code that sends them their 75% and releases it 8n the wild.

Disclaimer: I didn't read the link since I'm on the road, so I may be talking out of my ass Tongue

If I were 21 Inc I would just set it up like a pool. The toaster hashes away and valid shares are sent to a central server and that is the extent of the device itself. Then behind the scenes at 21 they divide up the bitcoins keeping 75% for themselves and 25% to the consumer so that it would be impossible for the consumer to give themselves 75%.

What if the consumer (a very malevolent consumer, e.g. thieves, criminals, etc.) manage to get those free appliances and just use the ASIC chips embedded in those devices. That way they would've gotten the mining hardware for free. The ASIC still has to solve hashes the good old way, they could just go and 'hijack' the ASIC, and circumvent the device transferring the PoW shares to the 21 server!

Good point, I didn't think of that. Touche!

30K dump moves price down ~$5?? Now I see shorts are up to 30K on BFX. Bears be runnin out of coinz to dump. At this point all they are doing is providing support when/if they cover. I don't know if All week hands have been shaken out, but certainly more have been than yesterday. Bear market running out of steam.

Bears are in denial.
  Grin

Lots of recent shorts, and the price is holding steady that's risky business IMO. Like the reverse bubble chart posted above, it would be like going long at $900 per coin. Strap on your moon boots everyone, if the bears are wrong we could see a nice pump.
