1861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taking a break from gambling on: September 19, 2018, 11:02:54 PM
Gambling's entertainment in the end, and if you're ever tired of anything in general, taking a break is a great idea, and you might even find a new hobby you enjoy in the meantime. In the past when I got tired of gambling, I tried playing video games like Counter-Strike or PUBG, and I was able to stop gambling relatively easy as I was always interested in those games. It's really a great test of your self-control when you're taking a break from gambling as well; simply come back when you feel ready, and you'll be alright.
That would be very easy for someone who sees gambling as an entertainment, truth be told, a lot of people tend to see it as a way to make money and then out of frustration and desperation, they get so engrossed and could not help the impulses as they strike. Taking a break from gambling is for someone who simply is still in control of himself and certainly is not seeing gambling as a way to quickly make money asides from entertainment, and knowing that he is using his hours to do something that is not really bring much for him, he should rather channel those hours into more productive things.
That's exactly why you should get help for those that you see are deep into gambling and can't get out. I've done this before for friends, and I've successfully helped people get out of a gambling addiction. Obviously not everyone who needs help will get it, but you're really doing an addicted gambler a favor by helping such a person to get help. I assume most people here have the self-control and think rationally enough to not be addicted to gambling, and thus capable of stopping gambling when necessary.
1862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: i want to build a cpu on: September 19, 2018, 10:30:11 PM
One problem you will also find with the Threadripper CPUs is that you'll also have to get an X399 CPU to run them, and those are currently pretty expensive- the cheapest ones I can find on eBay are used and/or open box, and they're going for $270-300. I'd rather just go for a few CPUs and a cheaper motherboard, perhaps running a budget Skylake CPU to control the GPUs. Either way, you're not going to make a lot after electrical costs if you don't have free electricity, and it is always possible to just buy and hold crypto. It isn't a terrible idea, especially when coin prices are as low as they are right now.
1863  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How do you market effectively in a bear market (advice needed) on: September 19, 2018, 10:23:05 PM
I absolutely agree with what figment's just said. The price of all crypto has been plunging for the last few months, scam ICOs as well as government warnings have eroded investor confidence, and just the fact that we're in a bear market dissuades investors from investing into an ICO. You may very well have a viable idea that has a use, but it's simply not a great time to be advertising ICOs at this point in time.
1864  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: SIGNING MESSAGES ON BLOCKCHAIN.INFO on: September 19, 2018, 05:50:57 PM
If you’re importing your seeds, I highly suggest doing so on a new, fresh PC with a wallet such as Electrum installed. Importing seeds and private keys on a computer with other things on it could potentially be risky, even if you have a good antivirus and you have good downloading habits. It does not ever hurt to be too risky with anything related to BTC, especially if you store funds on a wallet.
1865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My profitability on GPUs on: September 19, 2018, 05:37:22 PM
My friend is still making $2 a day on each card but he has really low electricity prices.  If you don't have cheap electricity you should sell all your gear and just buy the coins.
I assume your friend’s mining a pretty obscure coin, as even before electrical costs I don’t see any cards breaking $2 per day on either Whattomine or Nicehash (even the Titan V on Nicehash doesn’t break $1.50 daily before electrical costs). I still do agree that it’s better to simply buy coins right now, though, as mining at current rates isn’t too profitable, and it’s risky to gamble on mining a low-difficulty coin and hoping prices go up on it.
1866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How She ROI’d Her Mining Rig in 8 Weeks in a Bear Market on: September 19, 2018, 05:29:25 PM
Well I actually ROI'd a GPU in less than 6 hours when the ZEC launches back in Nov 2016.

Back then the price was crazy high on Poloniex, basically one ZEC was worth more than one BTC and if you were on an actual pool that paid you could of been one of the first few deposits and made crazy gains for almost no work.

The issue with this is that we don't see these gains everyday. It was basically pure luck and it won't help you out in the future.

Haha I did same.  I had 30 x 6 card machines at the time and hit zec as soon as it went live and sold it as soon as it hit my account.  Man those were the days...,  People were FOMO hard on Zec - Supply and Demand baby, it's a beautiful thing.
I also remember those days, but I happened to be unlucky and couldn’t find a working pool that processed withdrawals in time as a lot of pools either delayed withdrawals or didn’t let you withdraw immediately at all, so I didn’t make nearly as much as you guys did. Still broke even after a while on a six card rig, which was the only GPU rig I had back then. A bit better than the gambling some people do today with mining an extremely low difficulty coin and hoping it goes up in the future, but such a situation likely won’t ever happen again.
1867  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reason why 98% of sports bettors lose money long term... on: September 19, 2018, 05:24:01 PM
People do think sports betting is any different than stuff like dice. It is not, the odds are still there and favoring the house, if you think that you can win for a long term in any sort of gambling then you are VERY wrong.

There will be days when the team that suppose to win will win which means you make a small win however when you bet on an underdog you may lose or even if you bet on the team that suppose to win you will still lose sometimes. Which all comes down to house edge, there is house edge in dice and there are "odds" in sports which is basically house edge as well, you cannot win on long term.

Even many gambling houses are claiming that their sport betting platform is working as per the concepts of p2p, they are not actually in real time. This the core reason why we do get different results compared when we do bet with our colleagues in real life.
I absolutely agree. This is also why if you’re relying on using tipsters to make bets, the win rate doesn’t necessarily matter, as you don’t get nearly as much money from betting on a favorite team. Most people can attain a win rate of at least 70% just betting on a favored team to win, so when I choose to use a tipster, I look at some individual bets that they’ve done in the past to get an idea of how good they actually are.
1868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My profitability on GPUs on: September 19, 2018, 12:36:18 AM
If you're asking us what to mine, using a tool such as Nicehash that automatically switches between the algorithm people are paying most for, or a site such as Whattomine will do the job. It's extremely simple to do either of these things, and nobody's going to tell you exactly what coins are the most profitable. It's up to you to figure that out.
1869  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Increased Number of Scammers on: September 18, 2018, 11:06:11 PM
I find that using common sense and using your brain usually helps you steer clear of any potential scams out there. For example, if anything's promising returns of any sort, chances are what you're being offered is a scam. If it's too good to be true, it definitely is, and there's always strings attached.

ICOs are inherently risky, and things have only gotten worse over the years as ICOs have exploded in numbers. The only ICO I've ever become involved in and invested in was Iconomi, and I've never taken a look at any ICOs since. Most ICO threads are filled with useless spam, and the ICOs themselves are often horribly managed.
1870  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the highest lost you have made as gambler? on: September 18, 2018, 10:06:10 PM
I lost around $500 betting on a CS:GO match where one team made a comeback from a seemingly impossible scoreline and won in overtime (something like 15-6 to 15-19), though I soon recovered all my funds and a bit extra after betting on other matches right after that one. I've got a net profit in CS:GO betting, though I don't bet nearly as much as I used to about two years ago, but I still like to bet in increments of $25 or $50.
1871  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Lending websites suggestions? on: September 18, 2018, 09:57:18 PM
I know some people have successfully made money lending to exchanges for those trading on margin on sites such as Bitfinex, and the rates seem relatively good and the risks seem in line with what you'd expect from lending. I'd link a page, but it doesn't seem like there's a specific page for Bitfinex's lending page anywhere that I can find.

Dollars is what nets you the proper interest rates. Everyone wants to get interest on their crypto which usually mean the rates are piddling. Personally I would definitely not risk another haircut for a pitiful return there.

I agree, and there's definitely risk involved in lending to any sort of organization in crypto, where you can easily get burned if the organization or site decides to run off with your money, but it's yet another option for making a bit of money through interest. I'm personally keeping away from Bitfinex with all the news about Tether for now.

If anyone here does decide to lend, only lend what you can afford to lose, just like you're trading or gambling. Another alternative to lending websites would be lending to users here, but it's helpful to have reputation beforehand if you choose to go down that route.

1873  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: I made a marketplace for you to buy and sell goods for cryptocurrency. on: September 18, 2018, 01:41:31 AM
I believe the error is because the hyperlink is appending https:// onto the link that already has https appended onto it.

As for the website itself, it's very navigable on mobile, which I find fantastic, and the layout of the site overall is great. Good touch with the livechat at the bottom of the page, relatively unobtrusive there.

For the fee comparison, I feel you should add other competing online marketplaces such as Bitify to the mix to give users a real sense of the savings that could be had on your platform.

One last thing- what advantages do you guys have over a similar online cryptocurrency like OpenBazaar that accepts multiple cryptocurrencies and also has no fees? Why should I move from another platform to yours?
1874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: rtx2080ti from nvidia payment charged?? on: September 18, 2018, 12:53:03 AM
I ordered a few 1070s from Nvidia's official store store a month back and I can confirm the thing with payments. I used my PayPal Balance and the payment was charged immediately, but with credit cards they're charged on shipping. You'll be charged once the order's going out, just be patient and wait 'till that happens.
1875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Someone is selling a gaming PC (specs inside) is it worth? on: September 17, 2018, 09:53:52 PM
This isn't even a good deal for gaming, considering the age of the 4790k and the great deals you can get now on chips such as the Ryzen 2 and Intel Coffeelake processors. You didn't list the capacities of the 8 drives (I assume they're HDDs), but even if they happened to be average SSDs the build would still not be worth $1500. Everything in this rig's pretty outdated, especially the 970s, and you're better off getting a newer board and cheap cpu like the G3900 or G3930 and mining with newer cards.

Basically every part in this rig is superfluous, and we don't even know how many open PCIe lanes are open on the thing.

1877  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: what are my options for paying bitcoin with it comes to flying and vacations? on: September 17, 2018, 09:31:14 PM
I know Destinia is a legitimate option based on people talking about the site on Reddit and other forums (one Redditor says that BTC's only available if you order 48 hours in advance). Simply click on the currency symbol at the top of the page (a dollar sign in my case), and you'll be able to see prices in mBTC and mBCH.

In the past, though, I simply converted my BTC to fiat currency for trips and vacations- it's a bit of a hassle at first when it comes to converting currency and all, but it makes things a lot easier in the end when you're booking flights and such.
1878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining income using rig on: September 17, 2018, 01:49:06 AM
Depends what your definition of 'worth it's is. I'm personally only buying coins as profitability's dropped to the point that it takes more than a year to break even on a rig, and a lot can happen in that time; profitability may go up and down, who knows.

Even on cheap or free electrical costs, mining profitability is still extremely low, and buying coins is currently a better option in my eyes.

Also, something else to note: do not mine at a loss if it ever comes to that point. Mining at a loss is essentially buying coins at market price plus electrical expenses and all that, and you're throwing away money by doing so. You're better off simply buying coins in such a situation.
1879  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: You cannot win in gambling on: September 17, 2018, 01:28:52 AM
You can still win, you just did the wrong move of just betting according to your choice.

I know its hard to say that you can still win after all of those losses that you've come with. But that's how gambling works, you can expect the unexpected and not all the time the game is with you. Should I say, gambling isn't for everyone.
I completely agree with this statement. Gambling's not going to make you money in the long term due to house edges, as I'm sure you're aware of, but it is indeed possible to win in the short term; I'm currently overall positive in eSports betting and a little bit in dice. You just happened to be unlucky today.
1880  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crime Effect of Gambling - Your thoughts! on: September 15, 2018, 03:27:06 PM
Some people resort to crime and illegal activities after losing it all in gambling, but I don't think gambling has a large effect on crime overall.

The points you highlighted all relate to real-life physical gambling in physical casinos, and therefore can't really be applied to online gambling if you're trying to make a point about online gambling. Illegal activities can still be done online, though, and that's something that is less researched.
