1901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are giving too much importance to exchanges on: June 21, 2023, 12:46:06 PM
-snip-

Exchanges and BTC are 2 different things. One exchange going down doesn't mean BTC must follow.
Binance will disappear? I don't give a damn.
There is some truth in the write up but am thinking other crypto users see the correlation of Bitcoin and Exchanges being that they provide an early indicator of whats to happen to the markets.

Besides you know how everyone says with crypto you can be your own bank, what happens if the only place you are able to sell or access your peer2peer platform to get fiat in exchange of the digital currency is shutdown ...?
It kind of leaves you stranded if you don't have other options,  and the fact that the top exchanges are under attack most will surely what to salvage whatever they can y selling before they lose the access especially that we are solely responsible for our actions.
1902  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The truth about investment (bitcoins) on: June 20, 2023, 09:36:43 PM
Profit driven certainly not an understatement!

And the fact that everyone getting into crypto knows that some lucky folk out there were made instant millionaires for hodling after price soared wildly,  everyone getting into crypto today want to emulate the succes the early adopters got, but with regulation, hacks, less volatility  in the markets it could see less investments getting into crypto.

The major truth is the cryptocurrency shouldn't be taken as a means to get rich quick. One must first understand that the funds to be invested is the fund one can afford to lose. Investing in cryptocurrency can bring unexpected circumstances which can either be positive or negative.
For sure, but most crypto guru's out there paint this kind of picture that Bitcoin has that get rich quick character  to it and in the past it did, but I believe BTC has evolved and to be rich from it will take quite a long time.
1903  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: June 20, 2023, 07:10:32 PM
Belgium are still unable to make a big improvement in their general performance.
And am here watching the game thinking how these guys found themselves into the top 5 footballing nation..

Estonia has looked more dangerous whenever they go infront of goal and Belgium is really struggling to snitch together some good passes...maybe the absence of Kevin De Bruyne has left the team without that creative touch to it  Roll Eyes but this Belgium team is disappointing.

Do I think they will win here, not a chance Estonia looks like a team with a plan and they will catch Begium on a counter!!

Inplay prediction: Draw

Off to see Portugal destroy Israel, hope Cr7 will be on the scoresheet Smiley

1905  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: June 20, 2023, 04:51:33 PM
Could this be a case of making someone pay for what they didn't eat or a case of double standard.
If you ask me they got what they deserved!!!

At first glance they want to claim a refund or chargeback after running out of luck, and I think this is quite common not only with gambling but trading too, were users blow their account and trigger a chargeback with their respective banks.

And as far as I know it's not double standard as the court as a duty to prove they got their guy beyond reasonable doubt before any conviction and this should have happened...just some poor write up by our journalists who might not have included the missing parts of the article.

Yes, I think gamblers like to blame others. And these are of course the players and or teams that are responsible for the gamblers losing their bet.
If gambling is going to be about finger pointing in trying not to take responsibility , then gambling isnt for such a user...but there are times when the bookies dont give the correct data feed and when the user places a bet based on this its definitely  not going to seat well with anyone..otherwise gambling is a game of chance and luck.
1906  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance leaves Netherlands on: June 20, 2023, 02:59:39 PM
And how is it like with other exchanges, is it business as usual or they are facing the same regulatory pressure??
It's the same for other exchangers Kucoin, Huobi, Bybit and others.

https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2021/06/28/huobi-reveals-countries-where-it-has-halted-derivatives-trading/
https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/06/22/ontario-securities-commission-slaps-bybit-and-kucoin-with-enforcement-actions/

I'm not going to provide all the links of the articles that I have read since you can just google it each countries that have been banning from western to asian countries.
I guess these guys days  are numbered when it comes to centralized  exchange's operating borderless which is a good and bad thing...

I can only imagine how many local exchanges  will come out of this,a and possibly exploit their customers thanks to fewer exchanges  to choose from.

Times are changing because there are new local cryptocurrency exchangers that are operating which are complying with regulations while Binance, Kucoin, Huobi are not for them it's kinda unfair.
Looks like a cooperate war disguised as a regulatory clean up, let's see how this unfold going forward.

Am looking at price right now and am thinking this is normal price movement to be honest,  I don't understand why we calling for a bloodbath when price is pretty much ranging for the last couple of months..

- Decentralized exchanges are seeing a nice jump from this exodus.
source DEX volume in Uniswap, PancakeSwap, dYdX jumps after the SEC lawsuit

I can't believe people realize now why they shall use a DEX and not a CEX, but hey let's hope...

#CZBinanceInJail  Grin
The only downside of a Dex is that certain blockchains aren't supported which means a centralized exchange will still be needed otherwise to fight off all these regulatory battles it has to be the Dex way.

Btw I see the hashtag #CZBinanceInJail, could this be the course of action he is likely to face ? Or by law he is protected and only the company can be affected by this...

1909  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: June 19, 2023, 10:13:01 PM
I think Liverpool will start next season with a significant level of difference for them because last season Liverpool played in the Champions League and they were able to provide a lot of competition from the grub phase to the next stage. But in the next season Liverpool will play in the Europa League and of course Liverpool is very superior. Salah while playing at Liverpool he has never played in the Europa League. But next season he will play for the first time in the European league with Liverpool. I think he will make a lot of achievements in the Europa League next season, be it being the top scorer or being the best player in the Europa League.

Quite possibly, Liverpool are a strong enough team and compared to the teams that play there Liverpool seem not just a serious team but also a contender. They could well make it to the play-offs and get into the conditional quarter-finals, I think they will. Of course, you have to get to know the opponents in general first...
Am sorry to say this, but Liverpool has tired players to bring in the silverware !

Remember when Klopp just came to Liverpool, the current players were having an overhaul  which happened and went on to win a couple of trophies during this period..
But unfortunately the team hardly has rotation calls like City does to allow these guys to rest but seems week in week out its the same faces and new youthful players havent been introduced,  if they dont get some fresh legs on the squad we should expect same results as the ended league results.
1910  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance leaves Netherlands on: June 19, 2023, 08:09:16 PM
So Canada gone, US pretty much is a wrap and now we have the Netherlands joining the list were Binance is pulling out..

Is it possible that a competitor could be behind this persuading regulators by pressing Binances  buttons to shake them up and leave the markets for others??

And how is it like with other exchanges, is it business as usual or they are facing the same regulatory pressure??

And in a few month's from now, are we going to survive without centralized exchange's??? Because truth be told, these guys provide more liquidity than a Dex would and pricing is far much better too...
1911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin become The General Currency in the Future? on: June 19, 2023, 07:50:45 PM
As much as we want bitcoin and other cryprocurrencies to become the everyday currency,  unfortunately fiat is one way our governments use to control inflation or generally the economy and a bit of manipulation here and there...But to say Bitcoin should replace such a monetary system,  I think it will take a century for this to happen as this is us saying our governments should give up their control!

Besides , one constraint that wouldn't make bitcoin acceptable world over are the different regulations each country has and not wanting to be controlled by another in the name of looking independent, and apart from this not all countries are up to speed with today's technology and this will need to be taught for users to know how to protect themselves online and the alike.
1912  Economy / Economics / Re: Is poverty a lack of money? on: June 19, 2023, 01:12:15 PM
According to Investopedia,

Quote
The term poverty refers to the state or condition in which people or communities lack the financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of living.
Based on this definition,  poverty can not be restricted to the financial wellbeing of a person, it can also boarder around the lack of basic needs such as food, access to education, lack of access of good healthcare etcetera.

Assuming we have a policy and a mechanism for fair implementation. Most significantly, it should be protected from the consequences of any exploitation of human greed and fear.
I don't know about this,  because how do we explain situations were other people prosper in same conditions of the economy  Huh I know there is generational wealth but these kind of people aren't included in this discussion...

Btw talking of policies to make it conducive for everyone can also lean towards a communist environment, is this were this is going ??
1913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes Bitcoins valuable? on: June 19, 2023, 10:17:24 AM
Adding on top of what OP has already said, for me if compared to the nearest asset known to us (gold) is bitcoin is more accessible to more users , which means its potential to grow is infinite as opposed to gold which is  available to a few and at times needs so much paperwork to obtain...so basically speaking it has the demand and easy to own.

Another reason I see Bitcoin being valuable is we have moved into a digital age and people are more attracted to having bitcoin as opposed to physical assets or fiat and to  some extent gives you better security and control.

bitcoin is indeed very valuable because bitcoin supply is limited.
Agree this should be the ace in the hand, and with demand  in the equation Bitcoin is destined to be the most valuable  asset known to man Smiley

Can't complain so far in this round, but the Netherlands  Croatia game was one of those games that were completely against my expectations in terms of the number of goals. If I read the table correctly you could still tie this round @Woodie? But I think it is unlikely that the game will end 0-0 after 120 minutes tonight, which would make us both end up with a wrong answer. But let's see what the evening brings about.
One this question I do have a better chance of getting this right as the other game had 5 goals and the Spain Croatia match still is goalless with a approximately 10 minutes to go...I have this in the bag!!!

Formula 1 question I believe I also had the better score head to head...

UEFA Nations Ranking, I got Spain to get into the finals (0.5 points)and so did I get Italy to get the 3rd sport(Is this 1point or 0.5 points)...

If my math adds up I think I drew with you in this round,  any way  good luck you were a worthy opponent Smiley.
1917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin must surpass gold on: June 18, 2023, 11:52:02 AM
If you are going to ask any crypto enthusiasts about which of the two(bitcoin or gold)are better...8 of 10 times everyone would side with Bitcoin to surpass the other..,so will a person that loves to see their hard earned money in form of gold.

At this point, it's safe to assume we comparing oranges and apples here, and we can't separate the two which makes me believe this goes down to preference.

But without siding on any side, I think we can invest in both and collect any gains made by either of them...it's all about having a portfolio with a variety of assets.
1918  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: June 17, 2023, 09:13:01 PM
Norway doesn't have enough fire power to get a win against any team they face, even with the Champions league winners (Erling Haaland) is not even enough.
This is the bad part about league football, after cherry picking players to complete the best 11 we forget that these guys back home are just average players and today is no different despite the spot kick that put Halaad on the scoresheet.

Btw Norway should have record this one as a win but it seems they lost concentration and allowed Scotland to turn things around.

Another easy win for Portugal and they are even closer to easily qualifing for the Euros. Ronaldo maybe didnt score but his team won easily and that is important for them. Bosnia wasnt able to hold in second half at all and the pressure from Portugal paid off in the end.
I think I liked how Ronaldo played today, he might not have scored but his contribution towards the game was visible for all to see, and it seems going to Saudi Arabia  might have also helped him find his spark and discipline ...hope he gets on the scoresheet for Portugal before he retires.

Btw solid performance for Portugal, and seeing those senior players today, am thinking the next generation isn't groomed for these guys to continue were the CR7 and crew left off.
1919  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The best countries tax wise for Bitcoin on: June 17, 2023, 03:55:26 PM
El Salvador seems like a well known  name in our crypto circles and doesn't surprise me that this can be considered a crypto haven, but unfortunately nothing much is said about the tax element when it comes to cryprocurrencies like bitcoin.

Another country that seems to be living under the radar definitely has to be the Cayman Islands, too many shell companies seem to be coming from this and am guessing  it could be in the lines of tax holidays..

Otherwise,  if tax is our main concern then most  countries that don't consider Bitcoin legal tender could be a good choice but to play it safe, stick to countries that have legalized or recognized BTC!
1920  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can One's Religion Compel A Compulsive Gambler To Quit Gambling on: June 17, 2023, 09:41:21 AM
For starters Religion has nothing to do with gambling and should be removed from the conversation.

Secondly, what makes a compulsive gambler compulsive is not religion but one's personal character or perhaps one's love for material stuff and the alike and simply put lack of control leads to compulsive behavior !
Bte If we are going to say religion here, then we are saying religion teaches all its followers to be compulsive by nature which is false, Religion borders around the element of peace and love and these can not make you compulsive.
