1941  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: October 28, 2013, 11:46:17 PM
Can u make a bot that starts at say X and if the value drops 2$ you buy and if it increases 4$ you sell?

Hey Smiley,
Do you mean a bot that will buy if the price halves and sell if the price doubles?

There is a lot that can for wrong with that, we have been discussing reverse EMA for a while that does something similar (but better) with EMA indicators. Maybe something we can pursue when we get some free development time. Got a lot going on right now Smiley.

Pablo.
I use reverse EMA strategies and they are quite a bit more logical (from a human perspective I guess) in the profit area.
1942  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: October 23, 2013, 09:58:39 AM

Really you should not be using the BOT if you do not understand that it is not 'willy nilly', the whole point is that over time you will see an increase over a 'normal' human trader, but that may include  taking it in the ass once in a while....
There is a 'run test' function and whilst it is a bit basic, it will give you an idea.

For example the recommended settings would have made a significant loss on Mtgox over the past few days.

It gave me enough of an idea to understand the  functionality is not suitable for trading in such a market at the moment, as it stands the BOT is not quite polished enough, and yep I know it makes money, but is also takes rather more 'hits' than it should.

Personally I'm of the mind that the product is in need of significantly more 'safety mechanisms', but I also do not think that a simple 'stop loss' is the answer, specifically because it can be exploited by other traders and in some cases may well be a significant contributing factor to  a 'flash crash'.

That said and despite the BOT going mad and clearing out all my FIAT, I have still managed to manually trade the account to a significantly better position that the BOT over the last two days.
There are some rather 'shitty' patterns emerging from gox at the moment indicating some very rough BOT trading algorithms.

I agree with your assessment.

It takes more hits than it really should. Which like it or not, deducts from future gains.

Right now I am almost finished writing my own arbitrage bot and testing it through it's paces. I too would like Butter Bot to add certain real time simulation features. I think a simulation feature is better than turning on the bot and letting it do trading. This will help you get an idea of the decisions the bot makes in different situations without risking BTC or USD.

------------------------

I would love it if they made a "secure-bot" to "get you out" of the market in the event of a flash crash. Just that feature alone is very useful if you don't intend to do actual EMA based trading. If you do want a bot to watch the current market conditions on a continual basis butter bot would be a good start if you understand the settings.

I think they should package this separate from the normal butter bot set of features.

-------------------------

There are also other types of already coded software based on ADX that don't take anywhere near "the number of hits" that butter bot takes. (not butter bots fault as ADX is just a better indicator IMO)

There is one publicly available but someone decided the neuter the public code so that it didn't do anything other than prevent losses. I back tested the public version and while it wasn't written to make a profit, it back tested to the beginning of the year and retained 99% value of the currency traded. Had someone with experience redone it to actually "make a profit" it would have no doubt been better than the EMA based bots.

Future version of butter bot will come with different strategies so that people can choose whatever type they prefer.

What was the link to the BBB rating for BFL?

I would love to inspect the current rating after sep 30th.

Edit: Nevermind found it...and laughed out loud.

Come on PuertoLibre, its posted by a guy with 4 posts, talking about his "friend" with a few screenshots.   Who knows what his "friend" did or who he gave access to via the API.   Its a little flimsy for be to believe anything this guy is saying.
Did he also fake the receiving address amounts at roughly the same time frame?

sounds like they went trough the API this would allow them to mess up the transaction fees.. the only transaction fee you can choose is a tick box of 0.005 so its either a server exploit of API exploit both of which could or couldnt be your friends fault but should be serious concern to mtgox..
1945  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ribbon cable question on: October 19, 2013, 07:26:31 PM
So how do we go about replacing the IDE cables?

Is there any hints on this ngzhang?

You can just buy a raw 40 wire ribbon cable and crimp ends on it. Alternatively, I can make one for you but I'm sure it would be cheaper if you did it yourself.
You don't know which wires they are using or if they are just straight end to end connections. Without knowing the pin layout you might connect things wrong.

Yes, I do. All the schematics are public. It is straight through. I have made cables already for people that work 100%.
How much do they cost?
1946  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Better pre-order pricing scheme on: October 19, 2013, 03:52:40 AM
One problem with pre-orders, is that the customers that order first, get their devices several days or weeks earlier than others, thus extract significantly more value from them.
Thats not quite true...

They pay a heftier price for the privledge of having the machine earlier and that offsets their profits.

Paying 16k USD in August to get it in October is almost the same as paying 6k USD in October to get it in December.

Okay, tell me, how do you arbitrarily set the withdrawal fee using MtGox's web interface? (to something like 2.2btc)

1954  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need a PayPal refund for your BFL purchase? on: October 18, 2013, 01:53:20 PM
What you need is a transaction ID from finlof.

Only then can you push them to do something they ordinarily wouldn't do. You just have to provide the excuse for them to do their job.

Contact him privately and get the guy to send you a transaction ID that shows the refund. Then if you get your's get...him (or you both can contribute) and provide transactions ID's. Then, we can build up a small list that people can reference against. Lets open up those flood gates of justified refunds.

@ Pablo

Would you give us an example of "Trailing Stop Loss" feature use.

Thanks

Hi Bruter Smiley,
The most simple way to use TSL would be with a very high value (in the high teens to mid twenties) to get out of a flash crash; again this carries a lot of risk because since the bot will shut off you could be out of luck if the price recovers before you have a chance to reset it.

TSL can be used as a stop loss feature directly with lower values if you set very high threshold values (that aren't likely to be crossed).

Again, it's a feature who's use we as a company do not advocate (as expressed in the user manual); there are models where it useful but you would have to be monitoring the bot constantly which defeats the purpose of having a bot.

I hope that answers your question, please let me know if you need anything at all Smiley.

Pablo.
Ah, I was automating your recent version of your bot and that is why I noticed that it didn't apply TSL. I am actually making a watchdog app that keeps an eye on the bot. (which means I can try out different TSL's on a minute/hourly/daily basis without being there by following some simple rules.)

I noticed quite a few times across a broad spectrum of settings that even good EMA settings turn out pretty bad in the back testing when there is a "flash crash".

----------------------------

These are my thoughts:

I realize this is an EMA bot. Simple rules, simple executions. As you can see in my pic above.....

IF you use 1 hour settings (and above) AND there is a flash crash within 30 minutes... (meaning, it goes from where it was to the new bottom (lets say a 25% drop in price)...the bot reacts to it after the next update by initiating a sell order. Correct?

As you can see above, it reacts very suddenly after the fact by selling at a major loss. (lets say 25% loss)

-------------------------

I assume from what you said that the TSL feature "turns off" the bots trading ability before it executes the "sell off" and thereby incurring the loss, correct?

If so I can see why the anonymous customers asked for this feature.

============================

Why doesn't the bot check the 1 minute interval data and use that as the TSL trigger rather than whatever settings you choose? (lets say in this case "1 hour" ticks)

I guess what I am asking is there a way to differentiate the "TSL tick" settings apart from the "trading tick" settings?

Edit: Nevermind, it is a dumb idea!
1956  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: October 11, 2013, 11:53:33 PM
@ Pablo

It looks like the backtesting feature doesn't respect the "Trailing Stop Loss" value in the B-Bots settings. Which means that various configurations being tested will work differently in [actual] practice.

The results turn out fudged...

They dropped the min bid on Minis to 2BTC
This exact same scenario will happen with Cointerra and Hashfast @ 28nm. It will only take a while longer to get there.

Eventually the economics of mining will be so skewed towards "zero" that even 28nm devices won't be viable. Even lowering the price of a 28nm miner to almost production cost won't really help the matter.

As for those who think that it will level out, they are right, but it won't level off and taper off, it will just stay at a perpetual plateau where people who invested too much into mining will struggle against math to get their money back out of hardware. Selling to each other is one viable option.

Another option is to buy into FPGA's that can be programmed to mine coins not based on SHA256. But again it is a major gamble...who would use coins beyond the Scrypt and SHA256 variety? The money in an exchange just wouldn't be there. At best speculators with remaining cash reserves would put their cash into the exchanges.

Word to the wise, find out where the third generation Alt-Coin is going to be and when it is very cheap pump your money into it and hold.

==========================

Or

You could always build up a fortune of Bitcoins and speculate lightly and live/supplement your income from that for a pretty long time. Although that presumes that Bitcoin will still remain money pot on the exchanges in the next 2 years.

I am just waiting until someone ruins the alt coins by saying very unnecessary things.

We all knew Avalon's ASIC chip design & fab process technology would be poor compared to current state of the art, but people (including me) were interested in their chips due to the time to market advantage.

What was not understood was just how poor and low performing Avalon's design was compared to Gen2 ASICs from other strong design teams. KnC, Cointerra and other groups are now coming out with designs that render anything Avalon is offering completely obsolete, even Avalon's gen2 is behind by a wide margin.

I think Avalon might be out of the game soon, it makes little sense to buy an Avalon based system at any price due to their higher Watts/GH requirements. Avalon self mining with their own gen2 might not be very profitable either. If that is the case where does that leave them? Sure they made a ton of money in the past year, but did they blew the money on a Gen2 design that they can not recoup?

I actually agree with this statement with one major caveat.

Avalon catched up to BFL (performance per watt wise) in gen 2. So if you make the argument that Avalons second generation is now obsolete....then the case is also made for BFL hardware.

Good thing Yifu is already working on gen 3 and 4 in parallel.

Question what is the $$$ to GH/s ratio for Avalon in gen 2? How does it compare to BFL hardware or current 28nm designs?

He has beyond the pale burnt his bridges ...nobody will trust him with anything

He better hope that what he produces is a the friken solution to the fusion reactor of an ASIC chip.... as the guy is a scammer and a dog and is not welcome

To be honest If i had 1 spare life jacket and both Yifu & Josh where drowning ...I would give it to Josh ..lolz
I'd rather you throw it into the sea. (save the dolphins or sharks instead)
