2021  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Donate to Wikipedia with Bitcoin on: November 29, 2012, 05:09:24 PM
I donated .8 BTC (not a lot, but if a respectable amount of my entire BTC holding)

While it would be nice if Wiki accepted BTC straight up it is also important to support Wikipedia itself.

All these people who claim they refuse to donate until Wikipedia immediatly accepts their dogmatic terms for donation are giving BTC a bad name and reinforces the stereotype that BTC is more a religion than anything else.  Look, you have been given a way to use BTC to support an important organization. Put your money where your mouth is or just admit that you're really just pushing dogma.

2023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy halving day on: November 28, 2012, 03:24:01 PM
You know, it's actually really fun to think that the BTC community finally has something positive to talk about and be excited over as opposed to the normal ponzi shiz.

So after today its back to ponzi for 4 years?

Oh jebus I hope not Sad

As much as everyone in this thread is trolling each other, it really is interesting to be reminded how things have changed since OP.
2027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ECB paper on Bitcoin and virtual currencies on: November 01, 2012, 03:33:55 PM
Ok, so I finally got the chance to read the whole thing. After doing so, I have to take issue with the folks who called this a "balanced" look at Bitcoin.

Sorry, we meant to say it's seems pretty balanced as a report to people who know what real life is like.  This is a report meant to be read by people who know and work in banking, not by people who default to conspiracy theory and end any conversation with "becuz of guvernmint".  It is balanced because it highlights pros and cons as they apply to everyday experiences.

Is it perfect? Psht, of course not. Is it a much better examination and explanation that what can be found in the vast majority of posts on this forum? Probably.
2028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ECB paper on Bitcoin and virtual currencies on: October 30, 2012, 03:38:37 PM
I'm not finished reading, but I think the report is actually very good.  It details Bitcoin in a way that is fairly easy to understand and does seem to try to be balanced.

My fav quote thus far:

However, practically identical problems can also occur when using cash, thus Bitcoin can be considered to be another variety of cash,  i.e. digital cash. Cash    can be used for drug dealing and money cash can also be used for tax evasion purposes.

All of you who are already donning your conspiracy theorist caps (assuming you ever take them off), you should try to refrain from doing so.  I feel that this is a big opportunity to silence critics and be like, "See, this very official document published by people who have every reason to be openly hostile to Bitcoin thinks you're wrong".

2029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why ASIC's Should Not Be The Future Of Crypto Currencies on: October 24, 2012, 04:12:29 PM
I really can't fathom how people could think that bitcoin could stay in the "everyone can print their own money!" phase for any extended period of time AND have any value what-so-ever.  The two ideas are in direct conflict with each other.  The moment that something becomes of high enough value the people with more starting resources will always, always, always, no matter what BS you tell yourself, be able to acquire more of it than those without starting resources. Morality has nothing to do with it. It's all about Economics 101.

This goes for gold, USD, bitcoin, litecoin, poopcoin, piratecoin, durpcoin, whatever.

This is why litecoin is promoted only by people who are emo-mad that they didn't get enough BTC mined before the big boom. They're just hoping they can convince enough people to raise LTC value enough that they can dump and just move over to whatever BS they come up with next.  Either it's that explanation, or they are just too stupid to grasp economic principals taught in American elementary schools.  I'll let them decide.
2030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why ASIC's Should Not Be The Future Of Crypto Currencies on: October 23, 2012, 10:06:46 PM
Anyone who thinks litecoin is the answer to anything needs to spend like, 15 seconds thinking about the topic.  Anything that happens to BTC will happen to litecoin eventually. The only thing the rise of litecoin would bring is the downfall of cryptocurrency all together.

And if you say you have already thought about it...then think harder.

2034  Economy / Speculation / Re: The RAPTURE is coming! on: October 13, 2012, 03:47:30 PM
What you are doing is numerology not mathematics.

bayesian analysis, wavelet transform, enumeration of trading rules, that's mathematics. Claiming that everything underlies one principle without rigorous back testing is at best pseudoscience, likely complete bullshit.

This pretty much defines the whole Speculation subforum.
2035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the Occupy movement not immediately embracing bitcoin? on: October 11, 2012, 12:25:51 AM
Wow, this is an ultra necro-thread.

2037  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin Going to the moon? on: October 06, 2012, 01:16:59 AM
If you look closely at some of the photos from the Apollo 11 missions, you can clearly see that bitcoins were already there.

Thus, Satoshi was obviously an alien as we have often surmised.
2038  Economy / Speculation / Re: RALLY!!! on: October 03, 2012, 02:38:44 PM
I don't disagree entirely and I am sorry I didn't buy more when it was $5.50

I hope people realize that they'll soon be saying "I'm sorry that I didn't buy more when it was $13".
2039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much can we stand? on: September 21, 2012, 04:23:47 PM
Don't matter what the "community" does thinks feels.  Individuals will do what individuals do.  Then the rest of us get to laugh, and laugh, and laugh.
2040  Economy / Speculation / Re: How high? on: September 19, 2012, 06:08:19 PM
And what worries me is that you're always worried. Stop that.
