1501  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sorry to inform you, the current rally is over now... or very soon. on: March 02, 2013, 01:58:28 AM
So yeah, while Bitcoin can't be inflated from within, it's still susceptible external shocks. For now I'm happy that those shocks are pushing its exchange rate UP Cheesy

This is why if LTC or any other alt-coin actually gains ground, even temporarily, all that will happen is completely undo BTC and all cryptocoin all together.  One of the major, if not THE major, advancement and promises of bitcoin is that it is resistant to inflation due to the hard cap of 21million. If, it turns out, any two-bit script kiddie with 5 friends can effectively do so by creating a sperg-coin or what have you then people will be fully capable of extrapolating and realize the whole experiment is a bust.

That said, I also think this is the exact reason that any alt-coin won't gain ground.  Enough people are smart enough to realize this and not fall for it.
1502  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 02, 2013, 01:52:33 AM
My totally unsubstantiated theory: We're going to start seeing more "normal" trading with an upward trend.  The days of one or a handful of people completely messing up the price for weeks at a time are over.  Anyone trying to "play the game" like they did in 2012 are going to find themselves ineffective and at a loss of both USD and BTC.  I do believe that the potential of bitcoin still hasn't been discovered by 99% of the world and, as they begin to adopt it, this will increase demand.

Maybe a weekend dip, maybe not. I'm toats not expecting any weekend crash though.

UPDATE: Someone is trying to make me look da foo'!
1503  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitter sweet on: March 01, 2013, 11:17:07 PM
The price where it is now is bitter sweet. Sweet in that I like to watch the value of my current BTC rise.

Bitter in that I want to buy more...but want to buy at a lower price.

Just pretend you are one week in the future and the price has just dipped to to $34.85 from...oh, I dunno...$40.  It's a deal and you'd be stupid to say no!
1504  Economy / Speculation / Re: YAWN on: March 01, 2013, 11:15:50 PM
you wouldn't bother me so much if you knew a cow's lick about technical analysis and the discussions we have about it were actually constructive.

bearish perspectives are important. i was wrong in my predictions. i can handle that. can you handle that?

But I do know all about it brother.  That's what I'm sayin'.

I can handle that your wrong, and it's not even that I care that you're wrong. I don't even care that much actually.  It all seems a bit out of context today as the big bump is (maybe?) over, but seeing 10 threads start each with an OP that has a some TA chart and some doom-gloom sentiment is a bit over the top.  Like the tarot card guy, I don't think I posted in his thread at all mostly because he had one thread and he updated it and the title was something designed to inspire fear/flame posts/whatever even though I think tarot reading is jsut as effective as TA.

I'm not aiming to tell you how to post, but I'm just sayin' if you post multiple threads with titles like YAWN and CRASH COMING EVERYONE'S GONNA DIE! (one of the two is an exaggeration) I'm going to probably show up and throw it back at ya.  I don't do the same for bullish TA posts mostly because they seem less serious in the first place to me, but I do have the same opinion of them.
1505  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 01, 2013, 10:43:04 PM

Sir, I fear you have just started something very dangerous for me.
1506  Economy / Speculation / Re: YAWN on: March 01, 2013, 10:36:14 PM
this is of course assuming that past data predicts future results.

Which it doesn't. Therefore /thread
emphasis mine.

this statement may not be true. that is all i'm trying to say.

if you disagree with my assumptions, then don't bother with the conclusion. it needn't follow. but don't get butthurt just because you don't think TA is worth anything. many people here do and are interested in the various projections of that assumption.

I wouldn't bother if you guys didn't post 15 thousand threads every time upload a picture and proclaim that TEH CRASH IZ COMING! DA LINEZ SHOW IT!  That's why you don't see me in the long running TA threads.
1507  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 01, 2013, 10:32:06 PM
Come on bears, don't let this rise too high too fast !
they already sold everything trying to keep it under 32.

what was the sell off yesterday? half a million usd? the market gave 0 cares

It was a guy who bought 19k at $5, the day before he was asking how to liquidate 19k on btc-e chat, people told them "slow" small quantities, he did not get it, he was very anxious to sell them all.

This is funny to me.
1508  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ultimate bear chart on: March 01, 2013, 09:20:18 PM
Taking a crack at it!

Ah man, I hadn't realized that I had missed the BTC/Pizza singularity moment. Now I'm totally bummed out.
1509  Economy / Speculation / Re: bubbling up because media talking of record high on: March 01, 2013, 08:31:19 PM
'Bubble' might not be accurate, since we don't have the massive upward spikes  ($4+ the same hour) that we had in early June 2011.

Very Short-term: We have had several dramatic, 'healthy' corrections.
Medium-term: We are way over-due for a (temporary) big dive, and the longer it's put off, then the more massive it will be.

Ah man, you were so close to actually being right and then you got to that last sentence...

so 9 consecutive weekly green candles (>2 months) is perfectly normal and sustainable?

Sure. 90, meeehhhh. But 9? Sure.

And I like how you even went with weekly candles.  You just zoomed out until you found a metric you didn't like and decided, "Yup! There's mah proofs!"  Way to cherry pick.
1510  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin market cap is now almost... on: March 01, 2013, 08:23:07 PM
It'll be fun when we can officially say that BTC = 1 Jay-Z

And thus, the Jay-Z index was born.
1511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I intordocue BitCoins into my community? on: March 01, 2013, 08:01:24 PM
So, you think that there should be restrictions on what BitCoin lets us buy?

Why even have a crypto currency if you don't want to really use it? I think you should just stick to paper money.

I don't think he meant you couldn't, but probably it shouldn't be the first thing you go up to strangers and use to explain bitcoin.  I mean, maybe if you really know the person but as a general tool, prob not.

It isn't easy to get people onto bitcoin.  I've been talkin' it up to my family/friends for years, have bought goods (not silk road!) with BTC, bought things FOR them with BTC, shown them the increase in value....and they still think it's some kind of weird pyramid scheme or something.  The biggest facepalm moment was when I bought my dad something for his birthday off bitcoinstore.com and explained how I got a sweet deal for it because BTC is more efficient and all I got was a "Yea, because it fell off the back of the truck heh heh heh."

The best thing you can do is just play it cool, don't sperg out, and just keep at it.

Though, getting someone to sell YOU something for BTC is really good too.  I have gotten a few peeps to at least take it seriously once I paid them some coinage.
1512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DailyTech - Bitcoin Article Comments FAIL on: March 01, 2013, 07:49:14 PM
Did you really expect all those people "out there" just to jump on board of our cosy little ship and become libertarians all at once?

I think this sort of sentiment is part of the problem too, actually.  You don't need to be libertarian to enjoy and use bitcoin and insisting so is ridiculous.  I am not a libertarian nor will be.  To me, the value of bitcoin is being able to use/send money over the Internet to anyone/anywhere without exposing any more personal information online than I want and without paying out the butt to a handful of middlemen.

I do agree with you, however, that the early focus on "mining" by the community didn't do us any favors.  If someone wants to know how the system works, explain it broadly and go into more detail as they ask.  A lot of the early information out there about BTC really goes into the "print your own money!" and is still partly trumpted by the likes of all the alt-coins out there.

The best thing to do is calmly and simply directly explaining their concerns about bitcoins.  For example, the guy who posted about everyone printing bitcoins and gpu mining making BTC inflation crazy I would respond with "There will only be a hard cap of 21million bitcoins and it will be impossible for there to ever be more than that".  Simple.

Non-believers are keeping the page count below 600! Jokes on them, for they cannot hold back the secret page rocket.

Posting in another "Because of X then bubble".

Though, to be honest, this one isn't even that creative.  I shall spot you a few free ones that may lead to more interesting conversation:

McCorvic is posting more than once a day, therefore bubble.

The price of bitcoin is almost to $37, which is a prime number, therefore bubble.

My shoe has become untied, therefore bubble.

My mom let me on the computer again, therefore bubble.

Feel free to use any of the above.  Any more will cost you some extra BTC therefore bubble
1516  Economy / Speculation / Re: YAWN on: March 01, 2013, 05:45:28 PM
the onus is on the claimant.

the onus is on nobody at all if i state it as an assumption.

No, if you make assumptions without any evidence/support/ect then you are a terrible poster. Watch, I'll demonstrate.

The market will reach $10000 per BTC this afternoon with the assumption someone is going to spend a billion dollars on BTC.  I will now proceed to get all butt-hurt if anyone says this assumption is dumb.

Why? Why the hell would I assume that?!

BTC is actually the tool of the Lizard Alien Race from the largest moon of Jupiter to control all humanity, with the assumption that the Lizard Alien Race wants to control all humanity.

See! I did it again.

wish we could post audio files that auto play

I agree. Especially since there would be absolutely no way this feature could be abused.  Grin

over 60% of us users like to be abused when we come to this thread so it's fitting

Heh, fair enough.

1519  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: BTC value in USD was up 50% in January and February, what about March? on: March 01, 2013, 04:29:07 PM
I picked 35-40 because I dunno.  Despite the last two months, I still think it'd be crazy to assume we'd go up 10+ dollars in a month, but I won't be mad if we do.

And, to be fair, I think I guessed somewhere that the 2013 high would be around $18 so....
1520  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 01, 2013, 03:43:42 PM
THREAD CRASH! I'm dumping all my posts now.

haha, nice try, dude. Pathetic bears Wink

Dang, you caught me.  I'm actually hoarding my posts and will post more once we hit 500 pages.
