For the men who do not see through this, god save your souls.

Nom nom nom delcious bear tears

For the record, I wouldn't be surprised to see us drop again a little bit below were we started then back up again as that is typical when these single huge buys happen.  I would also not be surprised if it didn't do that tho.
1563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 28, 2013, 01:05:10 AM

Greed is a persistent illusion. I will admit I refuse to sell but all things must come to balance. A big sell is likely.

...is what the bears said at $15.
What if I told you the creator of this wall is a bear?

I would say "Cool story, bro".  Even if you had evidence that it was just one guy (which I don't believe) bitcoin is bigger than just one guy.

Coinlab is just a flailing failure.
They raised venture capital to do the gpu thing then got smashed by news of asic development.

source? I have been following them for quite some time and never heard of them being involved with anything related to mining...

http://coinlab.com/

The original goal was to use idle gpu power of players to mine.

I don't really see a problem of a company trying to change direction once their original business model was outdated.  What, do people prefer they just go ahead and stick with the idea that won't work anymore?  I think that's a bit silly if someone decides to use that as a criticism.

I don't know anyone at coinlab nor have anything to do with them, but I think it's in BTCs best interest that these "major" startups are more successful than not.
1572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinlab Bringing Bitcoin to Wall Street with MtGox Deal on: February 27, 2013, 08:42:22 PM
Thumbs up Holliday, We gonna fight this. The Chinese won't care about such crap either, they have more "human rights" related uses for Bitcoin.

I've never used an exchange period. I certainly don't want fiat, that's why I use Bitcoin to begin with. Let the people who want to move in and out of fiat deal with the repercussions of those actions.

+1

Mt.Gox != bitcoin

It's like saying bitcoin is over because Mt.Gox was hacked at some point.  If you thought any "decentralized" currency wouldn't have anyone interested in opening up a possibly-regulated side industry then you have only been fooling yourself.
1573  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 27, 2013, 08:37:15 PM
I really hope we don't break the all-time high today.

It'll be much more amusing/exciting if it happens at the 11th hour tomorrow Cheesy
1574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are lost bitcoins lost for ever? Really? on: February 27, 2013, 08:16:07 PM
Being new to this, I may have misunderstood an element of the infrastructure of bitcoins, so with that disclaimer, here is my query.

I assume that all coins appear on the blockchain at least once when they have been mined, so, would it be possible to highlight coins which have not been used for a long time or even more than once?

Is this possible?

If not, I would love someone to link me to a tutorial explaining the blockchain in a way that I may understand! Wink

Thanks

Quick answer before everyone flips out:

No, they are not forever lost. They still live where ever they were sent and it is "theoretically" possible to retrieve them but borders impossible.

No, there will never be a way to force move "inactive" coins as they maybe stored there on purpose as savings, ect Plus, do you really want people to have to power to forcibly steal your bitcoins? This has been discussed ad nauseum, so if you'd like to know more about this do a few searches on this forum.
1575  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to Wall Street ? on: February 27, 2013, 08:10:11 PM
one thing is for sure, people are thinking about these things and want to see bitcoin as a regulated commodity. and a large part of this community disagrees with this philosophy. ( it sometimes feels like 'they' are trying to do this to push adoption... its no longer about making sound money, its about making money period. ) so I think a hard-fork or something similar is coming, and it will have very little to do with block size limit.

Sigh.  Oh no, people are using bitcoins in was they want and not they way I want to whaaaaaaaaaaa whaaaaa.  You know what would happen if a fork occurred and whatever the forkees had becomes at all successful? The same damn thing.

And you know damn well that you can try to regulate a bitcoin site, but you can't regulate bitcoin.

Adam, your posts have gone from amusingly inaccurate to flat-out loony bin FUD spreading.
1576  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: February 27, 2013, 08:01:02 PM
"Trust" will only work until it doesn't for Ripple.  The counterparty risk will be extraordinary.  Look at MyBitcoin and Bitcoinica as examples.

I'm with you here Cypherdoc.  I really can't figure out why anyone with any experience with bitcoins thinks that "trust" is worth anything Tongue

Also, I love this thread.
1577  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to Wall Street ? on: February 27, 2013, 04:39:43 PM
Yes, lets move all the payment processing to the USA - and especially to the nearly-broke state of California. I'm really surprised and not really pleased about this. Have they considered the legal implications if legislators decided to come for a piece of the action? Or to disrupt their operations?

If anyone has a good answer as to why the positives outweigh the negatives, I'm all ears.

Positives: Lower bar of entry for new people to acquire bitcoin, thus increasing it's acceptance and useability.

Cons: Uh, if it gets closed there are plenty of other exchanges and bitcoin is still bitcoin.  This is obvious unless you're one of those people that say bitcoin itself was hacked in 2011.
1578  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Where are the Bulls now?] Who's buying at 31.20? on: February 27, 2013, 04:24:03 PM
[31.2, 449],
[31.20001, 104.18817408]

~$17,160 USD is needed to get back up above $31.20
If someone doesn't do this soon, the market will die of boredom and crash by the weekend.
Where are the Bulls now?   Cheesy

$31.28 on gox right now.

Don't worry, he'll come up with a new goal post.  It's not like they've let reason and evidence inform their decisions thus far!
1579  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to Wall Street ? on: February 27, 2013, 04:04:13 PM
lolz at this "news"

Oh, dang. This must be the new bear tactic. "Uh oh, we can't call lower prices any more! Just try to blow off everything as unimportant! That'll do the trick!"
1580  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to Wall Street ? on: February 27, 2013, 03:43:16 PM
That sounds like great news.

That's because it is great news!  If anything, it'll hopefully be one less barrier of entry for people to buy bitcoins.

Now, to save everyone some time, I present with you Desperate Bear Logic: This will cause the markets to crash for some raisin. Because more demand = lower prices, right?
