What are the reasons behind this rally? New investors for Bitpay? CES? New Megaupload?
The good news are not over yet. Ehh I mean the rumor. You know when to sell. Never sell. Buy or spend. I think there has been not just an increase in good news, but news in general. More awareness = more people wanting to participate.

One thing is certain for sure and it sucks: After bitcoin suddenly goes up it also suddenly goes down
I'm pretty sure that's true of the vast majority of things? I dunno. The trick will be if it goes down less than it had went up.

bulls dont claim victory until you are above 15.4 *claims victory* Anyways...where's Adam? But seriously, them some seriously big buy orders. I am preparing for the eventual dumpage/rollercoaster ride. I just can't imagine someone who buys 800 BTC at 14.15 is smart enough to hold onto them for more than a two days. he got caught up in all the pessimism. it's too bad b/c he's one guy i'd like to see get dragged along with the rest of us to the upside. I tried to tell him to never sell

Actually get people to use bitcoins instead of just cashing out for USD or investing in obvious scams. Change comes from within!

I can't help think that we just cleared the biggest resistance we will encounter until we hit the all time high.
Bingo. I would hesitate at all-time high, but close to or pass 2012 is a distinct possibility. I don't think anyone really predicted to see such resistance around $13.50 for so long and, now that the bulls are in charge (harhar), there's no reason to expect to see anything like it again in the immediate future.

And about 57000BTC above 12.50 Adam Even though we're kinda joking, I think this number is really significant. I'm pretty sure that puts us a good distance out of reasonable dump range and nothing but a very significant down turn will take us below 13.00 for any extended period of time.

Uh oh. I think someone saw an episode of the GI Joe cartoon from the 80s and mistook it for a documentary Cobra was just make-believe imo.

What are the walls looking like right now? Is it likely that we could go beyond 14 soon?
Hey! Don't you put this thread back on track. But really, we're about 7197BTC (a little more than 1100 at 13.90) away from 14 on the ask side and 8010BTC from 13.50 on the bid side.

What I would like to see is someone actually sell something at a competitive rate instead of jacking it up 3-10%. Have you really looked yourself? Take precious metals for example. Marked up. Take these shopping sites or auction sites that accept bitcoin. All marked up.
People are just buying stuff.. with USD (for example) and then selling it for more and think that just because they take bitcoin that I will buy it. No.. that is not how to succeed.
One has to create a site, invest 10-20K, buy useful things at wholesale prices, sell cheaper then amazon, eat ramen noodles for a few years until critical mass is reached and they make some good money. That is how a business starts out and succeeds.
Plus I do not gamble, buy drugs, etc.. so there goes 90% of the bitcoin economy for me. :-|
Bitcoin shopping has no advantages right now. No protection, no cost savings, no perks, etc..
jjgames.com - 10% with bitcoin (got my xbox 360 from there) bitcoinstore.com - I haven't surveyed every item in the store, but I got my wireless ap 10% cheaper than the same item on newegg.com My logo I'm using in my avatar - made by a user on this forum for a rate that was figurativley a steal bittrivia.com - Not gambling exactly but I guess you might consider it such, also a fun way to pass some time I literally just came up with these without hesitation and these are all examples I have personally used. Again, if you don't care about BTC and just see it as a way to get some extra USD I can't argue with that and you can do what you want. But you cannot do that and simultaneously complain that you can't do more with BTC with a straight face. Edit: Again I make this argument with the caveat that I understand if you are literally paying bills with BTC you do not have an alternative.

did anyone else notice we just broke the 4 month high from mid-August (an eternity in bitcoin time)
No, I didn't actually. I think one of my problems with spending btc on stuff is that all the things that I could actually save money on is already free for me. I work for an ISP so I do not need hosting, vpn access, virtual servers, hardware, etc... So I want physical goods or the ability to pay entities that do not care about bitcoin.
I bet for others they can easily find a few things if they are a IT hobbyist type and need that stuff.
I mean, if you really don't care if BTC sticks around, takes off, has more people that accept it than yea, that works. What you can't say is that you wish more people would accept it, but then just cash out anyways. These are two contradictory statements.

Ja ok, but in reality its not cheaper and there is not much to buy. An online shop overseas, no. I am just not a friend of the over idealistic, "Bitcoin saves the world" shit. Its still money, just better money and I'd like use it all over the web. Maybe I am all wrong for being a fucking speculator^^
Your giving me claims I didn't make. I didn't say bitcoin was going to save anything. fcmatt said he wanted to buy directly from manufacturers and I said that if he wants that to happen he/we'll need to do what we can to make it more appealing to those groups, i.e. actually spend bitcoin. Speculating and dumping does not further that goal.

mccorvic, are you living at your mumys house or do you actually have to deal with income?
Not sure what I did to get you all upset, but geez. I would prefer you try harder in creating troll bait though. Now, maybe you failed to read but fcmatt said he was done "speculating". He did say "I sold my btc to pay rent/pay bills/whatever". Of course I realize that no one can pay all these things atm with BTC. But just cashing out to buy things that are available with BTC is kinda against the whole point imo. Please be less mad.

well i am done speculating. sold my bitcoins at 13.82 that i mined over the last weeks. price should shoot up shortly. that is all.
You didn't follow my first rule of BTC! Hold or spend, never sell or speculate. I sorta followed it. I want USD so I can spend it. Buying stuff with bitcoins and pay more then it is worth so some person can make 3-10% off of me? No thanks. That is the main problem with buying things with bitcoin. Everyone seems to be a reseller who wants a cut. We need the actual manufacturers to start selling things. Or at the very least people buying in wholesale quantity and matching prices seen elsewhere. I don't know where you shop, but almost all sites I go to seem to give 10% OFF just for using btc. That or things I can't buy with USD anyways (no, not from SR!) But see, that's also why my rule says never sell! We gotta prove that people will use BTC before the bigger fish will become interested. It's a chicken and egg problem, and we're the chicken! Best. Metaphor. Ever.

I don't say this often, nor lightly but...
Cool story, bro.
Yeah, that's exactly what people said when the thinking minority warned them about Pirate. Not what you said, but totally the ranting, hard to follow, no evidence for claims way you said it.
