vol is low because everyone is out and about celebrating Xmas.
the fact we haven't seem someone try to take advantage of this and sell a bunch to push prices lower, would seem to say, no sellers are trying to manipulate the market down, they simply want to sell their bitcoins at the best possible price ASAP.
Even market manipulators need to take a holiday! But really, what we're seeing is people continuing to buy BTC and few large holders dumping occasionally. Eventually, the large holders who want to sell at sub-$15 will be satisfied and people will continue to buy which will result in an uptrend. |

Exactly. My experience is that technical people can create a very utilitarian web page that does exactly what it needs. If the users don't like it that's their fault!  On the other hand, a lot of professional web design folk couldn't tell you the difference between IP address and a printer. Since most BTC sites are solo or small groups that are working in their free time they don't really want to shell out for web design and, thus, goofy lookin' websites. This will rectify itself as BTC gains more popularity and BTC stores can go from part-time to full-time gigs for their owners. |

Consider this:
You want to purchase some coin. Will you buy when the market is shallow and your purchase eats up small asks along the way, increasing the amount you pay for each additional coin? Or will you buy when there is an ask wall and you get each coin for the same price?
The same holds true for selling, in the opposite direction.
I know which option I would choose in both cases.
Even then it's really not that simple. If you are only buying 10 coins or so the walls really won't impact your decision making to much (or really, shouldn't). |

LOL, can you imagine dealers of illegal drugs using local police stations for their handoffs for "safety".  I'd love to see the news story on that one when they eventually get caught. A one time exchange at a bank would probably go unnoticed. If you started setting up shop in the bank lobby with people coming to you all day long (walking over from their bank teller where they just withdrew their cash to get bitcoins from you?) you'd probably run into an issue. The best option is to choose locations that have both: Higher value targets, and pre-existing security/defense of the public. Banks fit this criteria, any other suggestions? I can swear that I have actually read a few news stories in the past where people have tried to do drug sales right in front of/near/inside police stations. I imagine if you setup shop anywhere other than your own residence and sat there all day long that would be an issue For some reason I can't really imagine airports working. People there are ultra-paranoid and on the look out for anything suspicious. Casinos I think are busy enough places that, as long as you aren't looking to shifty, you'd probably be ok. I also think that anywhere you'd have to pass through a "front gate" first might be nice. I doubt a zoo would let someone just stroll through with a big baseball bat |

The question should be "will the response be fast enough and effective enough to stop hacks turning into disasters?" Pretty much my thoughts. Can the current version be "hacked"? Depending on your definition of hacking, then maybe. I dunno. Probably? But the ability to fork the chain makes it pretty much impossible to permanently hack as long as development is active. |
