2041  Other / Meta / Re: My trust score has gone down dramatically? on: November 08, 2013, 06:01:54 AM
odd.. i just lost two points as well and when to check and some one in my trust list gave me two pos feedback,

getting more pos feedback can lower your score?

i also left neg feedback for tradefortress, maybe we lost trust by giving someone who theymos trusts neg ratings?

i dont know, just odd
Maybe if you remove trust from someone who trusts you (or remove trust from someone who trusts someone who trusts you), The System treats you as being less trusted? TF's connected to just about the entire forum's trust system.
2042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When is it a good idea to change your wallet address? on: November 07, 2013, 09:28:59 PM
For the sake of privacy, much more so than security, you should generate a fresh receiving address for every single transaction.
2043  Other / Off-topic / Re: I have no consistent Internet access -- extended time offline on: November 07, 2013, 09:10:09 PM
Problem resolved. Still have a communications backlog I should finish with by tomorrow. Accepting new escrow transactions. Smiley

If I failed to respond to something asked/said directly, feel free to contact me again.
2044  Other / Off-topic / I have no consistent Internet access -- extended time offline on: October 25, 2013, 09:58:23 PM
Already let people using escrow know - but for everyone else who may (or may not, I guess) wonder why I'm going to be gone for 1-3 day spans of time, and only around in short bursts, it's because I utterly bricked my phone this morning, which acts as my only Internet connection without visiting a family member a couple towns over. So, I'll check in during these times to ensure nothing critically important is needing my attention, then disappear again. I'll probably ignore anything non-critical.

Oh -- this is important, too. I use SMS verification on Google products when accessed from a non-whitelisted IP address. Since I obviously can't access my phone, and must access the accounts from a different IP address, I will not have access to my email accounts for between a few days to a couple weeks. Not that you should care - fwiw.  Smiley

Actually, we have had a huge influx of "players" who log in, hit up statues, withdraw and leave, just over the last few days.

It doesn't seem to be automated, though it may be bouncing off a bot net of some sort. Typically one such zombie player at a time, different path between statues (the game starts you in a slightly random position within each starting island, and randomizes the starting island.)

IP addresses are all different, different hardware, different installs, not using proxies (or at least not publicly known ones; we use a proxy detection service.)

The whole thing nets them about 25 cents per hour at current Bitcoin prices. Who does this???
Assuming 6h after school, $1.50/day*7=$10.50/wk. That's the allowance of some less fortunate kids in developed nations. Factoring in high level of value appreciation of BTC, if they make $10.50/wk through 4 years of high school, and we guesstimate an averaged 400% value appreciation on the whole thing, you wind up with a bit under $9k, a pretty solid foundation to add onto parent & government subsidies toward college or whatever else they want - for something pretty certain and braindead. If you're able to combine something like that with faucet botting and similar leeching, it would be fairly possible for high school kids to fully pay for college with these seemingly-minor acts (especially with a more optimistic view on BTC value increase over time), while never having a boss or OSHA/similar regulations and no job hunting (for the few willing to hire high school kids), though you sacrifice time you could've spent learning new skills or building a work history. Bitcoin seems to attract weirdos like that. Smiley
2046  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Smart property on: October 24, 2013, 06:34:29 PM
Concept still works its way around my brain every now and again. ASICs probably would've been a great product to really prove concept on. Might still be, though the markup on them is rapidly depreciating to where they probably wouldn't offer as much benefit (OTOH, it could be a valuable feature once the mining market evens out and you want to distinguish your product from competitors'). ASIC manufacturers are pretty much the only large "Bitcoin manufacturers" -- has anyone suggested an implementation of the concept to them? What better collateral can exist than a money printer? This isn't the only use. Today, was talking to someone about having escrow released at time of confirmed shipment instead of after arrival and testing, and it hit me - that it was possible to do that with smart property. Sites could report hash stats on the signatures of the specific ASICs being sold (which'd be signed as "proof of hashes" [proof of funds]), which would remove a significant amount of trust required to release escrow at time of shipment, rather than after testing (they're often hosted far away from where they end up shipped, and international shipping occasionally results in customs delays).

-Not that I'd recommend releasing before actual arrival of the order and inspection, but it would remove *some* of the trust and make that kind of transaction more reasonable.

Dealer kindly referred me to the manufacturer. They happily handle custom orders. Waiting on an estimate.
2048  Other / Meta / Re: Have an issue with the forum? Can't post? Registrations disabled? READ THIS! on: October 24, 2013, 07:33:24 AM
All accounts must agree to an updated ToS page which blasts your eyes immediately after login with a huge (in font size) FAQ about recent changes. ToS can go below... maybe change a word.

Switch the typical positions of the "yes, I have read the updated ToS and FAQ, and I agree" and "No" buttons (so the "No" option would be on the lower-right of the screen). Replace "No" with "Ban my IP address forever."

I guarantee >50% less "why cant i post" spam.

2050  Other / Off-topic / Re: I downloaded the BBM app, it is ok who wants to create a bitcoin group? on: October 24, 2013, 04:46:00 AM
People still use BBM?  Shocked
They recently released Android and iOS versions. Why use over Skype, though? For sure insecure, but that much worse than a platform with a small sliver-fraction of users?
2051  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NSA accused of spying on Merkel's phone on: October 24, 2013, 01:52:42 AM
If she wanted to confirm it, couldn't she have just called up Putin and confirmed the war plans to invade the US?
2052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40 minutes since last confirmed block - that's scary on: October 24, 2013, 01:44:43 AM
I understand that there is variance and block generation is a stochastic process.

Even assuming the hash rate is always rising, there is still a chance that it will require 100 years to generate the block, isn't it?

I wonder what's the probability of having unacceptable block generation time.
Cheesy If someone did the calculations, we might find it more probable than an address collision, and then the trolls would create a thread every other day about the "10 minute block myth."
2053  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Operation: Corporate Bitcoin Funvangelism [help wanted] on: October 24, 2013, 12:57:21 AM
Cool beans. I asked if they're able to customize it directly - doubling size, removing the "floor," and providing a blank sail. Their mast is already designed to be detachable and re-attachable. A hand-tooled leather sail is pretty freakin' attractive of an idea, too. I'm kind of hoping they say they can't provide a blank sail for some reason.
2054  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US health care mandate (Obamacare) on: October 24, 2013, 12:33:13 AM
...

You are misunderstanding me lobbying is present tense and current, they've succeeded yes but they still need to keep lobbying in order to maintain the monopoly on car insurance Tongue

My point is there are groups in our country as well as yours who keep flowing money into government to make sure that they control certain sectors of the economy and all that varies is which ones have successfully come under the control of special interests. They will use all kinds of bullshit arguments to try and scare everyone into thinking they need all of this.
...There's a heavy, and fairly successful lobbying and propaganda campaign in the US to convince people that ordering prescription drugs from outside the US is "scary and risky".

Maybe just one in ten people do it.  Maybe fewer than that.
Canada? I just go to the pet store.

i'm currently in south sweden near a naval museum, i am sure that for enough btc (say 1000 btc and a stockpile of beer and vodka) i can convince some swedes to "borrow" a ship very much like this one and row it up the coast.  just keep in mind that the waters around stockholm freeze during the winter so time is of the essence.

Hmmm... snag a college kid and offer him $184 to "borrow" a longship from a museum and row it to Stockholm and you have a deal + 10% finder's fee.

2058  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pizza is sacred to us. POST PICTURES OF IT HERE! on: October 22, 2013, 05:46:51 PM
hahaha - this thread makes clear how many people live in the MidWest US. Seriously, guys - you need to live near Italians. I don't even like Italians - Italian neighbors are always loud and obnoxious, too many experiences for it to be an anomaly - but when it comes to meats and pasta, they're unmatched (though Greeks and Turks do some damn fine things with meats).

That horrible 80% fat frozen pepperoni crap would be banned by the governments if they could do anything productive. It doesn't belong on a pizza, or anything. It's not even fuckin' Italian - go get some capicola - the gabagool! That's a meat you put on a pizza. That's a meat for sandwiches, for everything -- pepperoni, though? For a disliked neighbor's pet.
2059  Economy / Services / Re: Seeking woodworker (displayable small-scale boat) on: October 22, 2013, 04:58:58 PM
100cm long, 10cm high (excluding mast, sail, and upward curves on length-sides of ship), 10 cm wide (widest point), I'd guess (without knowing exact curves), would give us a bit over a gallon of storage space.

That'd be a ship over 3ft long. Would that be doable? It needs to be shipped twice in the US, once Internationally to Sweden, but I don't think shipping costs will be TOO horribly insane, maybe $200 total? ... crap - better look that up. Assuming 8 lbs and that with the curved ends and padding it comes out to be ~10% longer and wider, and 30% higher, 2-day shipping in the US comes to ~$21 each (~$42 total), and shipping to Sweden comes to $52, for a ~$100 total after whatever bullshit fees are tacked on.

If 20 lbs, ~$150-200. -So that isn't too horrible.
2060  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Operation: Corporate Bitcoin Funvangelism [help wanted] on: October 22, 2013, 04:43:00 PM
Something like this?

That's exactly what I was thinking, though I really doubt oars could survive shipping without asking Ludvig to do assembly-work when it arrives in Stockholm, when he's already offering to do a lot.

Didn't realize that in my frenzy to delete everything not wholly relevant, I deleted link to where I'm asking for a woodworker. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=308738
