1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED on: January 27, 2014, 11:46:46 AM
Stop posting reserved, watching, subbed, or any other variation of placeholder. It's getting ridiculous, if you don't have anything to say, then don't post. If you're only doing it so you can follow the thread, stop it and use the watchlist instead (all you have to do is hit the watch button, it's even less effort than posting crappy replies). And don't start replacing them with one word comments like "cool" or "like" either, those will be next to go if it gets out of hand.

Report reserved posts and their variations when you see them, they will get deleted.

Thanks for deleting my 2 reserved posts that were saving slots so I could expand the OP as needed

now I have to have multiple parts in 1 post not separated out neatly

once again

thanks !

Couldn't you just think of something else to say instead? I'm sure you'd be safe typing "I'm very interested in this coin" etc which you could just edit later.

it was on a thread that I started I needed the first 3 posts so I could post more info as needed
I'd argue this is a valid complaint given there is a character limit for posts which I've managed to run into a couple times, on top of the obvious organizational benefits in having a "hard" separation between information. Maybe reserved posts shouldn't be removed if there's a certain flag in the post like "Reserved. [OP]" If abused, temp ban.

Hello, Tim Roche. Great question!

It will take 20-50 days to generate a profit on the money You spent already.
1425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASICS on: January 27, 2014, 11:11:09 AM
Theoretically (as in, out of my uneducated ass), I suppose you could increase the number of passes required for SHA-256 password schemes to ridiculous lengths. If it takes 500 quintillion hashes to unlock something, it'd be practically impossible to brute-force for the foreseeable future except by other former miners, and maybe the NSA if they decide it's worth their time to spend resources on this bizarre cryptographic "super-niche." Since it's basically useless except as a heat source, you can have your ASICs going 24/7 to encrypt (and decrypt) sensitive documents for corporations, though I'm unsure if you can distribute that in a way where the data isn't revealed to the encryptors/decrypters (though I suppose you get some psuedo-security by decentralizing the work).

With the Scrypt ASICs coming out, assuming they show substantial improvement and become obsolete or irrelevant, you could combine the two ASICs to create a SHA-256/Scrypt hybrid scheme, where they work in parallel on the two sets of problems.
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good name for a coin? on: January 27, 2014, 10:38:31 AM

Never a good idea to name a coin after a person, place or business in my opinion. Not good for the long term.
Long-term? Cheesy No reason to scam. Be upfront. Tuck your shirt in.

Call it HydrogenCoin. Literally nowhere to go but up. It's kind of cool we even have access to hydrogen, though I'm glad our lightest element on Earth doesn't continually float away into space, creating a terrible domino effect where, element by element, our bodies (and the rest of the world) "vaporize." It's so nice to have an atmosphere. Oh, wait.... hydrogen DOES float through the atmosphere into space, and we're converting our water into hydrogen gas? Lol, nice to live in a short span of time where humans exists, eh? Ah, nevermind - guess gravity's well enough for most elements, still.

Though, on an industrial scale, we're converting our water into hydrogen gas which floats into space and cannot be recovered. We're converting our water into hydrogen gas which floats into space. Yes, voluntarily. I feel like I need to shout this at people. Well, that's the sensationalist headline I'd shout at people... well, I'll shout it when the Alzheimer's full-blown.

Hydrogen isn't that big a worry, really. We're totally fucked on helium, though, until we start building massive structures to transport enormous quantities of elements between planets (which is kind of ridiculous considering we have to build something large enough to store all this crap, risking incredible quantities of important Earth resources -- good luck with Texas-sized space freighters flaming into Earth with nothing but enormous canisters of super-compressed helium.... that sure would be an incredible explosion, though.... world's most powerful bomb, except a good amount of it of it will almost immediately blow "up" into space... wonder if there'd be enough helium to actually carry ship debris up into space... oh, I guess it'd make water ... .... ... holy crap - that'd totally clusterfuck our Earth.... we'd get a truly epic flood... unbelievably large and awesome... no freakin' clue what kind of damage it'd have on the atmosphere... the flood alone is the kind of extinction event so awesome, not even Hollywood's covered. Maybe I can sell it. Oh, they did cover a massive flood? Hm... Do terrorists know about cloud seeding? Holy fucking shit, we've got a movie, Jim!! One of the most painful ways to die, I hear; drowning... maybe instead of being crucified, Jesus 2.0 drowns from God 2.0's flood, except God's the leader of "The Jews," an extremist Al Qaeda division focused on firing butt-loads of silver iodide into clouds from a fuckin' spaceship).

What was the question? Oh, right, burritos. Burritos do sound good. Kind of a homoerotic question, IMO.
1427  Other / Off-topic / Re: ITS SNOWING IN LOUISIANA! on: January 27, 2014, 03:17:36 AM
It's snowing here in southern Louisiana! It's always hotter than hell here. The area is pretty much shut down, and all bridges closed. My city is surrounded by water so no traffic in or out for 100K people. Also, Interstate 10, the busiest in the nation, runs through my city and the bridge is closed and backed up for miles. Crazy! Many wrecks have resulted in multiple deaths. Nobody around here know how to drive on snow or ice.

Edit: Caddy paid for with BTC Wink

Huh You're supposed to drive differently for a millimeter of snow?

That's what I was thinking he mentioned the bridges were closed for 1mm of snow.

It looks like someone just poured a bunch of salt or sugar on your car lol.

I can only imagine the huge amounts of snow on the east coast though.
Maybe everyone runs on bald tires in the South, or just coast along instead of fixing their cut brake lines, or they... Idunno... maybe they're not in a mandatory no-fault car insurance state and claim accidents are due to snow for liability purposes?

1) Likely driver conflict. Uninstall all mic drivers and any software the manufacturer bundled with it. Install manufacturer's mic driver for your specific model. Make sure to restart PC after installing new driver. If no dice, download generic Windows mic driver, or generic driver for your mic manufacturer, or possibly even a generic USB mic driver for Windows if one exists.

2) If your mic uses an audio port instead of USB port, it is probably broken from being obsolete for over ten years.

3) Try running TS as admin.

4) Really, BF4 doesn't have native voice chat? What is this, 2005?

Addt'l info if unsolved:
1) In Sound options for doze, when you click on recording devices, you have your mic set as default device and you can "see" your voice when you talk, yes?
2) Specific make & model of mic, drivers used?

Shit, sorry for the mix up, but none of my sound works. Not just my mic. No sound work. It says its playing but it never comes out the headset. I have tried other speakers, the back ports, everything.
Oh, then do all the driver stuff for the soundcard instead of the mic. If no dice, the on-board sound card may've fried, soldering broke off, or something else hardware-related. I have a fancy old dedicated PCI-slot soundcard taking up space somewhere in the garage I can send you for postage price. Was working five years ago - no clue, now.

If you're using manufacturer drivers with software, when you plug something into an audio jack, do you get a little popup saying you plugged something into an audio jack?

1430  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best House Buying Websites? on: January 26, 2014, 11:36:53 PM
I've always used Zillow, but I haven't tried much else. Believe it or not, Craigslist is sometimes useful for finding cheap, unlisted FSBO properties. (often a lot of scams & spam to sift through, though... definitely want to be more thorough in checking not just the condition of the house, but for back taxes and to ensure the city's lot record matches what's advertised)
1431  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 300 computer rig on: January 26, 2014, 11:24:56 PM
Need specs, uptime, general use. You're basically asking how fast will 300 cars go.

Have them do Scrypt and/or maybe CPU coins. With Scrypt and lowish-end AMD cards, it's possible you'll generate more money than you'll burn (and you'll be burning through many thousands of dollars per month in electricity, causing excess heat in computer labs, and reducing the lifespan of components).
1432  Other / New forum software / Re: New message board wish list on: January 26, 2014, 11:16:18 PM
Rename forum.

(for serious suggestion, some type of option to mark users "important" would be nice. I'd see this as creating a larger border around posts they make so it's easier for me to notice when I'm skimming a thread, or possibly just a little icon somewhere in their post.)

Wot?? No mayo?
1434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of work based on human energy only on: January 26, 2014, 04:18:02 AM
This seems fairly simple and cheap to do if you own a gym, and especially great because gym memberships have a roster of ~3 lazy/stupid people per 1 person actually utilizing their membership to a reasonable potential. If you have new, higher-end equipment, it may be possible to interface with existing sensors and only use something like a raspi, or even just have the equipment's internals upload JSON data to a central server which either pays out a special coin or BTC. This shouldn't cost more than $50/machine and would likely be significantly cheaper.

I imagine this being extremely effective in promoting fitness, and possibly the strongest available positive reinforcement, much more so than a guy you pay to stand around telling you you're doing a good job. You offer a subscription-based model which allows users to work off their subscription fee by bettering themselves.

Example:
To join AwesomeGym, pay $150 start-up fee (which includes "handicap assessment"), then $50 or 50 FIT (Fitcoins) per month. $100/yr fee for maintenance handicapping, maybe waivable for making good progress and permitting some form of advertisement. Thus, if you earn 50FIT/mo through decent exercise, you're able to sustain membership for free (except the $150 initially, and $100/mo for handicapping maintenance).

User should be able to earn roughly 50FIT per month with above-average use... maybe 15 hours at the gym, so for each hour of work, you would want to be earning ~3.33FIT.

AG will have a low number of Handicapper Generals on staff (not necessarily essential with smart software and a biometric scan) who assesses the ability of a new user. He will test them on all FIT-compliant equipment, take the best revenue/minute results, and adjust the handicap based on that. Perhaps a fit, young person is able to generate 6FIT/hour. Since the target is 3.33FIT/hour, he would have a handicap multiplyer of .5555. Maybe an out-of-shape elderly person is unable to generate more than 1FIT/hour. That person's handicap multiplier would be 3.

Problems:
1) This absolutely does not require a decentralized solution, and decentralization would be doomed to fail since monitoring to prevent cheating is essential.
2) Gyms profit tremendously from people underutilizing their membership, with over 2/3 of membership-holders never actually going to the gym. I think a good bit of this is made up for with the high start-up fee and the genuinely good things this would likely do for people.

"Sudden cardiac arrest deaths soar as young males worked to death in marathon 28-hour exercise session"
They'd have little incentive to go 28 hours. The only benefit would be that they don't have to come to the gym to exercise for almost two months after the marathon to maintain free membership, which probably shouldn't be seen as a benefit, anyway.

In given example, 50FIT a month translates to roughly 30 minutes per day at the gym, which is a pretty decent allotment. Maybe you don't come in on the weekends and would want to get closer to 45m at the gym on workdays.
1435  Other / Meta / Re: How are uniform table columns achieved for posts on this forum? on: January 26, 2014, 04:07:05 AM
You mean like with the code button? Forum may support a font with equal spacing, too, which would keep you from having to use the crippling {code} option.

Code:
@Party       | Men  | Women   | Average Offspring
Walnut Grove | 30   | 5       | 2
Peanut Road  | 20   | 8       | 5

1437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Less shares being submitted??? on: January 25, 2014, 09:40:06 PM
The HW error numbers are okay for 6k shares. If you lower the intensity setting another digit, you'll probably eliminate HW errors, but it'd probably cost way more in hashrate than it's worth.

There's a decent chance the pool doubled difficulty. It reduces their server load while having minimal impact on users, since when difficulty is doubled, shares' weight is doubled. Is your payout <1/2 what it was?

Stronghold and all related addons. This game has everything a good strategy should. Age of Empires series was also very good. I can also recommend a good old game named Incubation, not a typical strategy rather a tactical turn based shooter.

Did you notice games are getting more easy and noob friendly? Just look what they did to Red Alert 3 or Supreme Commander 2 - after playing the sequels I felt like the target audience was primary school, or maybe I'm just getting old Cheesy
Played Stronghold Crusader, so I gotta agree. Really fun and engaging. Some say it's the best Stronghold game and that other went downhill after that. Is it true?
From what I remember, 2 & 3 had awful, awful bugs when released on top of a clunkier UI over the franchise genesis. I remember something about archers failing to do damage due to a bug which wasn't fixed before I quit. They're supposed to be releasing a Stronghold: Crusader 2 some time this year. No idea how it'll turn out.
