Oh. I figured he was trying to weigh down shipments of weed in the mail.

Have you seen Mush's game? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=210849129

I think he is beyond weed. Its a pretty Dank tier game.
The fuck is that? Gave me the initial reaction I got from playing Off. Cheesy
1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU positioning on: January 25, 2014, 05:05:17 AM
They are designed for that orientation. The fans on the outside of GPUs blow down towards the board, not up towards the adjacent cards.

My setup has only about 1.25 to 1.5 inches between cards and I have no heat issues whatsoever.

The exhaust comes out the sides of the assembly, like this:

That was an informative image, thanks.
So how come when you put your hand close to the fan you can feel the hot air blowing out of it, adjacent to the cards rather than from it's sides?
Generally, only old cards are designed that way. It's not in common practice anymore, AFAIK. Blowing hot air out the sides of the card seems kind of dumb, too, but maybe I'm just missing something. You want the hottest air out of the case ASAP, not blowing around inside the case, so most card manufacturers have the fans exhausting out the PCI slot. By having the fans "reversed," you get the added benefit of pulling hot air off the rear side of the card below it, quickly expelling it out of the case and possibly cooling its VRM a little extra bit.

ETA: there's probably a way to reverse which way your fan's spinning.... you could probably just reverse the wiring on the fan's power cable, assuming it plugs into a socket on the graphics card. Maybe dangerous.

I'd recommend tungsten over lead.

Its not for counterfeiting, its for playing with. Last time Mush came over to play, we played jenga and legos with 30 lbs of lead ingots. We need more though.

We are trying to catch drain bamage

I'd recommend tungsten over lead.
1445  Other / Politics & Society / Re: stateless seasteaders existed for hundreds of years, we just need to join them on: January 25, 2014, 03:33:59 AM
Hopefully solar energy generation and battery tech will be advanced enough to eliminate the need for other fuels in propulsion and regular living on the water.  There's certainly enough sun energy out there to be able to live a semi modern lifestyle.

I wouldn't count on that, since solar energy requires a lot of surface area, which is possibly the most constrained resource on a boat.

Personally, I think the only real energy source that could make seasteading viable in the long-term is miniaturized D-T fusion reactors. Of course this is always 50 years away, and it would require pretty big boats, which is exactly what OP is trying to avoid.
It requires a lot of surface area now.  I believe solar cell conversion rates are low single digits and battery tech isn't that good either but solar tech is growing fast.  There already exists a few big boats that are only solar powered.  5-10 years and smaller boats will be able to do the same.

Actually good PV cells already get to well over 10%. I doubt the efficiency will increase more than 3-fold in the foreseeable future. But maybe that will be enough for basic functions...
Maybe worth talking battery tech, too. LiFePO4 has finally become widespread in manufacturing, and it's exceptionally well-suited to this kind of application. Costs are falling quickly (they're competitive with LiPO, though not LiCoO2 ["Li-ion"], which is fine given all its drawbacks), and you shouldn't, for years, have issue with going from frequent discharge and recharge. They're relatively safe and have a fairly constant discharge rate (with regards to voltage). They make for some excellent batteries which are relatively new and thus have a lot more room to fall in price.

Things have really advanced quite a bit in this space in the past 5-10 years.

Still on the fence about whether or not I want to try adding a couple more GPUs per breaker (chance of tripping, fire, and the investment, of course). Pretty slick-looking stuff and a great price. Best of luck!

One 7950 started on fire.
One sold.
One semi melted.
One is mining.
This thread is done now.......
What the fuck, man? Do you live in a volcano or just spill coffee all over these? Cheesy

1451  Other / Off-topic / Re: Name some good stratergy games on: January 24, 2014, 02:24:49 AM
tiem fer stratergy! Haven't made additions to this thread in a long while.

Good games already out:
*The Corporate Machine - Old-timey strategy sim by Stardock from around 2000, in the tycoon games category. Reminded me a lot of stuff from Nino Arndt @ Velocigames. Was/is in dire need of mods.... it has the potential for greatness even today, I think, but WYSIYG.
^ http://www.stardock.com/products/machine/order.html ($5)

*Seven Days to Die - Billed as a "survival horde crafting game." It has similarities to Minecraft, but it looks a Hell of a lot better and's actually enjoyable. It has my brain working more like if I were playing Dwarf Fortress, and you'll be rewarded more with enjoyment by taking riskier approaches to survival rather than building a big block castle and dropping a thousand wooden stakes around the perimeter. It's in alpha and has a long way to go, but it's worth a buy & play now with Alpha 6, I think. When they get through the pathing and AI goal (particularly spawning), I think it'll be a real gem. Worth noting this game is hard and there's no pause button (I think there may be a console command, but I just boot up CheatEngine and pause the whole process).
^ http://7daystodie.com/ ($35 - special alpha price) ETA: Maybe I was wrong. Since forging was introduced, the game's taken a heavier veer toward Minecraft's ease and seems to further encourage users to go underground and be boring unless they just want to build things (and then why bother having zombies?)

ETA: Shit... there was another good one I played recently. Turn-based Roguelike with decent graphics and solid content. Was very much like Nethack. I think the game was something like "Dirge of M'eye," and I think the dev company started with a "K." They released the game seemingly more as a demo of the engine which hasn't had many good mods, tbh. Game's free, too! Hey, here we go! http://te4.org/ "Tales of Maj'eyal"

ETA2: The Walking Dead, Season 2 is also out. First episode wasn't particularly exciting.... I'm thinking I should wait until the rest of the episodes come out before buying any more. I didn't play Season 1 one-by-one... I didn't hear about it until later, and I think it may be a superior way to play. I'm not a big fan of long pauses between doing something, especially playing games. While mentioning non-strategy games, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons also features phenomenal story-telling in the same vein, though with more Sierra-like puzzles (reminded me a bit of the insane asylum game from... I think it was the late 90's.... damn, my memory's malfunctioning, today... maybe even had "asylum" in the game name ETA3: Sanitarium -- good job, brain!).

Disappointing new releases:
*Desktop Dungeons - Basic turn-based roguelike, but severely lacking in content. The graphics are relatively pretty (and by that, I mean they look like a good 2002 sprite-based game) and the UI's fairly easy to grasp. The key feature is supposed to be a "semi-casual" roguelike you can play in short bursts. Not really my thing, but maybe palatable for you.
^ http://www.desktopdungeons.net/ ($15, or play the alpha version for free)

*Card Hunter - I didn't enjoy it, but if you like collectable card games, this may be for you. You play in a kind of scripted "story mode" where you go around doing various quests and whatnot. You play as three characters (which all play simultaneously in matches). It's presented as a kind of RPG, where you win or buy (with real money or in-game money) various equipment which act as sets of cards. These sets of cards all put various cards in your deck when you equip, which you draw from during a match. For example, maybe you equip a Sword of Badassery which has two "Badass Slash" cards, a couple "Badass Parry" cards and a couple unique ability cards attached to it. These, along with your other equipment sets, become the deck you play with. Character classes are done by only allowing certain characters to use certain equipment.
^ http://www.cardhunter.com/ (free, p2w [though you definitely don't have to pay to complete])

Upcoming releases:
*Tropico 5 - Supposed to be a massive overhaul of the series with a ton of experimentation. Excited about it.
^ http://www.tropico5.com/us/info.php (ETA: April 2014)

*Nothing else on my radar. Give me something to look forward to! Cry
1452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how the hell did battlecoin get added to cryptsy?? on: January 24, 2014, 01:44:04 AM
Out of curiosity... what'd be wrong with Cryptsy accepting money to list a coin? What, worried altcoins might start looking less than organic? Cheesy

h2o, are you adding the crappy and useless merged-mine Scrypt coins like United Scrypt Coins? No obvious drawback, possibly no reward, but possibly a nice bonus every now and then if one of them gains a following. Dumping hashpower on them may increase credibility among idiots.
1455  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about this? on: January 22, 2014, 09:45:28 PM
Crippling (often literally), mind-numbing work for 70h/wk at $1/hr isn't acceptable. $5/hr for their kind of work is unacceptable. At the same time, most people can't afford to be fair, and fairness by a corporation (at least in the US) is just a notch away from being criminal unless you can justify the PR effects.

It sucks, but there's not really a solution outside foreign buyers stipulating minimum wages in purchase agreements, Chinese workers collectively demanding higher wages and better working conditions, or Chinese manufacturers not accepting offers where they're unable to pay their employees a reasonable wage. Frankly, the easiest solution would be for the Chinese government to simply kick out foreign companies, nationalizing their buildings and building up Chinese conglomerates which don't need foreign support.

I think Apple's public opinion is starting to near that of Monsanto or Disney with all the news of their factories and the well-documented dragon-like greed of Jobs, so they really do have justification to start changing things outside of just to be nice, but it's not happened, yet. Of course, singling out Apple is stupid. Practically everyone with electronics has something from Foxconn or similar. It's like singling out McDonalds for having unhealthy food and "low" wages. If you have any kind of digital computer, you've probably supported these kinds of practices. It's a systemic, global problem, not something caused exclusively by Apple and the factories it purchases from.
1456  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 22, 2014, 08:31:06 PM
Income tax with EITC is great in the US so long as you're relatively poor. I can't wait for workplace to send over my W2s. Grin
1457  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Safest bitcoin wallet? on: January 22, 2014, 08:19:31 PM
Bitcoin-qt vs bitcoind? Or is there anything more secure?
Something that provides easy to use offline wallet functionality, armory or electrum.
This. I'd actually recommend Electrum until Armory .91 or .92 is released. Armory has much more functionality and some more security, but also a few serious bugs to be worked out (which eat your time, not your coins), though it's much less apparent if you run your computer(s) "normally" (fast, solid Internet connection, power stays on). Electrum will ultimately take up hours less of your time, excluding needing the full blockchain with Armory.

With the de facto "official" Bitcoin client, you both have the time-consumption of a "full" client and no added functionality over third-party clients. AFAIK, the Bitcoin clients also still do not use deterministic wallets, which is a major pain in the ass and/or security risk if you use it a lot.

1460  Economy / Speculation / Re: How long until Oprah discusses Bitcoin? What effect will it have on the price? on: January 22, 2014, 04:50:53 PM
I think we should get a Bitcoin blimp and have it fly around the world, esp. during sports games.
