1361  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ive Been using faucets for weeks and im yet to receive a single Satoshi...Why? on: February 02, 2014, 12:18:27 PM
No offense intended, but you must value your time extremely low or bitcoins very high to be using faucets. Why not just ask your co-worker for some?

I ate pizza with chopsticks while jumping vertically over a cow boy wearing ugly shoes while my eye was aching hardly working on some super flamboyant monkey and contracted 1HCuY8KrfwWBtS69iHEfryK4YqPpa9pr5S sideways due to period.
1363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How much space does a blockchain need on my pc? on: February 02, 2014, 12:04:57 PM
Which coin? You're in the altcoin section. I'd guess Litecoin has the largest blockchain of the alts... it takes up a bit over 2GB. Scamcoins probably won't run you much over 200MB. Doge is probably somewhere between Scamcoins and Litecoin... maybe 800MB-1.5GB.

Altchains grow in size with time and use, though they can be heavily influenced by a particular coin's features.

To delete blockchain in Windows, you'd probably want to go to C:\USERS\"PC Name"\AppData\Roaming\"Coin Name" and delete everything in there but the wallet file(s). The AppData folder is hidden by default in Windows, so make sure you unhide it (Ctrl Panel -> Folder Options).
1364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I've got an idea for a new coin :) on: February 02, 2014, 11:59:36 AM
So I got an idea for a coin

what next?

I know nothing about programming.

1366  Other / Politics & Society / Re: who inspires you? on: February 02, 2014, 11:37:22 AM
Humanity inspires me!
Ah. You must sell guns? Smiley

I take ideas and "reactions" from a lot of people. They all inspire me. Mike Masnick, Penn Jillette, Kurt Vonnegut, Robert Anton Wilson, George Carlin, Ron Paul, Friedrich Nietzsche, Ayn Rand, George Ouzounian, Ben Croshaw (yes), and John Stossel have all had significant impacts on me, though I may not agree much with or even like some of them today. Most of my teachers, too. Rest are in the community... I'd rather not name them.

1368  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS] Shitty drawings of anything for $1 USD on: February 02, 2014, 09:39:30 AM
Great timing - just what I was looking for.

OK, not really. But sounds fun. Can I get a shit drawing of Brighton Pavilion for the local Bitcoin group?

Here's a photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brighton_Royal_Pavilion.jpg or you might be able to find 1 or 2 more somewhere on internet.

shittyDraws delivering her first shit drawing to you sir! That's a cool-ass building I just butchered.

I did it all in one line on the back of a Five Guys menu with a sharpie. I hope you didn't have big plans for this thing. Wink

1369  Other / Off-topic / Re: Girls Gone Bitcoin! Miss Colorado lost title after being paid 10 BTC for porn! on: February 02, 2014, 09:35:30 AM
I don't blame her one bit. That's a shitload of money for some nudes, more power to her.

That's because OP is flexible with the truth. Nowhere in that article is bitcoin mentioned in any way, the money she allegedly got is somewhere below a thousand bucks, and that transaction OP linked to is from earlier today, several days after the story broke.

In short, OP is a liar and deserves a scammer tag.
Good catch.
1370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin "All You Need" USB Drive on: February 02, 2014, 09:09:55 AM
AYN is a possible way of helping new people get a grasp on BTC. It's a shipped USB stick. I'd guess an informal organization could pop up with representatives in large countries. The original idea for AYN (roughly 10 minutes before posting this) was to reduce the Internet bandwidth load required to download the blockchain. Everything else is just dressing since there's not really any reason NOT to include it, though I think it's important to show Bitcoin is more than just a simple payment network, showing users the usefulness of implemented ideas like m-of-n keys, paper wallets, and message signing, along with some of the even more cutting-edge stuff being released.

AYN would be on a 32GB USB 3.0 stick and contain the following:
*bootstrap.dat for QT no more than 7 days old at time of shipment.
*Autoplay will point to a GUI program which is able to do the following inside itself:
--Play videos (all informational videos we're able to, categorized more like a "help" file)
--Display in-depth, categorized, and searchable FAQ/"help" documents compiled from community insight, the wiki, and contributor knowledge.
--Install categorized software (full and lite clients, BTC-related tools like BtcAddress, mining software with a list of pools, browser plugins, and phone .apks [or equiv.]) while displaying text describing what the software is, both in short form and long form.

Over-reach goals:
*Self-update capability through comparing version numbers with central server, with user able to select which files they want updated, or allow them to update them all automatically. Organization should maintain server and test updated software before allowing it onto the organization's update server.
*Bootstrap files and client software for major and/or innovative altcoins.
*Reformat bootstrap file into segmented files which can be added to on-the-fly so you don't need to re-download the entire blockchain just to get your bootstrap file up-to-date.
-->Alternately (or in addition), a batch file installing all necessary components to create your own bootstrap file with one mouse click.

AYN drives will likely cost ~$30 shipped in continental US, slightly higher for elsewhere in N.A., and outside North America, other regional organizations should pop up to keep shipping costs from being insane. It may be possible to get AYN drives down to a competitive price with retail 32GB USB drives (~$20) just for the Hell of it. Compressed well, the current Bitcoin blockchain only takes ~10GB (maybe less -- I didn't spend much time trying). For particularly cheap users, we could probably shove everything into a 16GB drive for a few dollars off, though it'd be slower than a legless badger stuck to a hundred glue traps (uncompressed on 3.0, it should take ~25-30 minutes to get the massive bootstrap file onto the PC... compressed, probably around 1-3h). (ETA: include something to do while moving bootstrap file. Open-source crypto trivia game? Move tiny-sized game to RAM before moving bootstrap so it's actually playable...)

It's possible AYN could be subsidized with marketing partnerships. AYN may include some extra proof-of-concept gifts, such as blank bitcoin checks and/or coins. AYN should operate without intent to profit and offer the software package for free online through a torrent file. Team members and non-associated software developers should be paid through donations.

Just some thoughts. No idea if it's even viable (that's a who-ole lotta permission to ask), much less worth the time and effort.

I'll double the recommendation for a 270. You might be able to pick up used ones for ~$125. Make sure your PSU can handle it, though.

1374  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold would be worthless in a post apocalyptic world on: February 01, 2014, 08:16:42 PM
I don't really see much of anything having significant value in a post-apocalyptic world. It'd be a world of unimaginable abundance for a long time, I suspect, unless most humans survive. A truly horrible apocalypse would probably involve no immediate death, but electromagnetic fields and/or cosmic rays. If we were unable to easily use the electronics we've based our lives around, we'd probably wipe ourselves out pretty quickly.

It all depends on the scenario. Maybe lead becomes the most valuable resource on Earth and nobody uses gold. Maybe there are constant extreme lightning storms and everybody wants to build a dome around their houses out of copper or gold. Maybe we suddenly have no arable land and must manufacture isolated hydroponic farms with manufactured water. Maybe the International Jew Cabal unzips from their stolen human skin to reveal themselves as terrible monsters which eat nothing but precious metals, except they eat the hoarders first and only let the most submissive survive. Maybe enormous aliens crash-land on Earth and breathe in water floating around the air, separate the molecules through magisynthesis, and fart out hydrogen gas while storing the oxygen in ultra-compressed sacs they refuse to release. The hydrogen floats away and we quickly run out of water, but after the aliens die, we realize their sacs are fully enclosed and not penetrable with anything on Earth. Maybe plants become sentient and develop a hostile relationship toward humans after witnessing using spinning murder-blades being used on their brethren, and our lawns are constantly attempting to strangle and/or suffocate us. Maybe Ralph Nader is elected president.
1375  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory wallet and canceling transaction on: February 01, 2014, 06:49:04 PM
yes, my tx is confirmed.

I exported a backup to a text file from armory and seem to have all the information I'd need, e.g., root key, privbase, privhex. I can't get it to import into bitcoin-qt using the RPC console. I'm typing "importprivkey" followed by a space then one of the strings of characters. all have given error codes. i think I'm on the right track..

what am I doing wrong?
Did you unlock your QT wallet first?

walletpassphrase [your wallet passphrase without brackets] 1200
^1200 refers to # of seconds to keep wallet unlocked

(for Armory privkey, use the one that starts with a 5 and has a mix of uppercase and lowercase numbers, but remove all of the spaces. 5Aik 03Nz 3E9z etc... -> 5Aik03Nz3E9Z etc...) (or maybe correctly-formatted privkey starts with a different number... now I'm unsure)
1376  Other / Politics & Society / Re: PRESIDENTIAL petition to deport Justin Bieber!!! on: February 01, 2014, 06:19:22 PM
Was anything done to rappers that promoted hatred, violence, etc...?
Yes. They weren't allowed to say "fuck" on the radio, and The Man even tried keeping them from saying it in songs for albums and concerts. Oy, the persecution. I've heard it theorized that prison rap is misunderstood and was actually created by prison corporations to increase the number of inmates. OTOH, the theory may just be a fabrication to make gang rape look uncool. It's anyone's guess, really.

I feel a lot better being paid almost entirely in crypto and buying fiat when it's cheap than the other way around. Fwiw.
1378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Bitcoin Foundation needs Andreas? on: February 01, 2014, 04:58:16 PM
Ech. Thanks for reminding me I need to request to have my membership revoked.

Kludge,

Is he active participant in Bitcoin Forum? I wonder.
No. He was banned a long time ago. He went by Atlas and a bunch of other monikers I don't remember. Did you know all of the letters of "Atlas" is in Andreas' full name? Wow. Amazing.

If you do a Google Image search of Andreas, as I do every day, you'll notice he tends to wear a lot of blue. Atlas loved the color blue so much that he only used blue-colored lightbulbs in his room. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68493

I wouldn't dare suggest to Andreas while face-to-face that he is/"was" Atlas, though. He'd probably punch me in the kidneys.... for blowing his cover, obviously.
1379  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-01-31] Robocoin’s ambassadors can earn up to $10K for each sale on: February 01, 2014, 12:50:12 PM
I wonder how long it'll take to earn their investment back through commissions?

Depends on location, location, and location. But very quickly I would guess.

I wouldn't be so sure. Bitcoin is still quite small on the scheme of things. It'll have to be used a hell of a lot.
Unless you're selling to someone planning to put one in Antarctica, it shouldn't take more than a couple months. https://angel.co/robocoin
1380  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: The tale of the long lost one year stuck Bitcoin on: February 01, 2014, 12:16:35 PM
It's been unusable for me since the latest version, too, though my issues are different. Had to import most valuable keys into QT. Sad

I don't think it's possible to access the keys without Armory running. You should probably try deleting Armory (make sure you have wallet backups), then installing an older version.

Worst case scenario, I can keep Armory open long enough to extract privkeys. I could give amount in wallet to escrow, then you could send me the .wallet file, I'll send you the privkeys, and you'd release escrowed money back to me (ideally, with a tip Grin).
