It's a copy-paste with a few values tweaked. You can't really screw it up accidentally.
1662  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: How long should it take to load Armory? on: December 23, 2013, 06:29:03 AM
Hello.

I've switched to Armory few days ago and I love all the features and the looks. But it's kind of annoying how long it takes to get it up and running.

I'm using Asus i7 laptop with 6GB RAM and Ubuntu, and when I open up Armory it takes a long while. The 'Sync with Network' part takes few minutes, but 'Bulidng Databases' goes on for aeons. I needed to do one little transaction this morning, but it took it more than an hour to get fully loaded, but then I had to leave home and turn laptop off, so my transaction still isn't made. It's really annoying.

Is it working as it should be?

Or maybe I should use feature-rich Armory as my main BTC stash, and then use something like Multibit with 0.1-0.05 BTC on it for day-to-day transactions?

The latest version of Armory will rescan the blockchain if there's an unclean shutdown.  You can avoid having to do all the rescanning if you make sure to close it with the "X" in the corner, or "File"->Quit before turning off the laptop.
Would it be unsafe to disable such behavior? I frequently have breaker trip on line main PC is on (which "hot" Armory is on), resulting in a rather high frequency of rescans.

New forum software is being built as we speak which will replace the outdated model.
Really really? o.O

Nobody knows. That's why there's no information on the forum about it.
1665  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining at Home dying out on: December 23, 2013, 04:23:16 AM
Even worse for 110V with crappy wiring - no hope of running a Naptune
there's a 220V plug at electric dryer hookups and central ac units in US. I guess it will need additional wiring.

The second I interfere with the dryer by unplugging it my wife would give me an earful.
You need to improve at marriage. What the Hell's her problem, taking up $100s per year for no reason. Here you have the miners to dry and heat clothes, and she still wants to use a redundant machine specifically for drying instead of putting the clothes on a line? Wow, what an asshole.

Here you are, trying to cut down on electricity costs... YOU are the victim, my friend. Wink
1666  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are doge coins worth mining anymore? on: December 23, 2013, 04:12:24 AM
Cheesy I just started looking into the gamblecoins a few days ago. Most altcoin calculators don't seem to work because many altcoins (GrandCoin may've been the first) are starting to introduce shit like "super blocks." So in Bitcoin mining, you can think of a share as a lottery ticket - and that's all you have, these boring, all-the-same tickets. In Grandcoin mining and in similar coins, there's a small choice you can win the Mega Millions. You don't just get the normal payout on particularly good "rolls," but maybe 500x the normal block reward.

I think this is an awesome new level of variability added in, but because these are so rare, you're generally going to mine far, far less than what a calculator indicates, which is a lot like non-scratch lottery tickets. It may be ev+ in certain progressive payout schemes, but it's almost certain that if you buy $1,000 in cards, you're going to get absolutely nothing on them. In cases like Grandcoin mining, using the same $1,000 buy-in example, you may "statistically" (going by mean) have an expected daily haul of $1,400, but the chance of getting more than, say, $400 is statistically insignificant, and if you do get those magic numbers, you'll have a daily haul of $140,000.
1667  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: December 23, 2013, 04:02:54 AM
Site seems fine to me - just not so great on altcoin prices right now, no fault of the pool.

6.981MH/s, 24 hours = .0685 payout, another .0435 unexchanged (some carried over from yesterday, IDK how much), and .012 on my backup pool, for a total of .124.  If you only got .06 for a constant 24hours of 10MH/sec, there's something wrong with your setup.
Yeah... @ 2:34:23 local time, I have the latest payout registered in Python MC-watcher. .016565 carryover.
3:53:10 local time, .019439 unpaid. So... ~1h20m time for 0.002874. So.... 75% of that = per hour rate... 0.051732/24h on 2.6MH/s. 7/2.6=2.923. 2.923*.051732=BTC0.13928, so we're right about on target with each other. We're actually closer... Have tweaked settings more and pushed to ~2.8MH/s, with an anomalous MC report of >3MH/s atm.

(Python MC-watcher is awesome, btw - easy to modify... have a super-tiny window which removed all the data I wasn't interested in for something super-concise... will donate when I no longer owe ~$1m in BTC... maybe in a decade or two. Smiley)

What others said. Has been bad for past 2-3 days, but db error frequency has been particularly severe today. Have been surprised to not see a notice up on Reddit page.
1670  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 0.15 BTC per transcript of LetsTalkBitcoin on: December 22, 2013, 11:58:44 PM
Just another reminder (has been coming up in almost all the recent transcripts submitted by new people): don't start sentences with conjunctions (especially "so," "but," and "and") unless there's no way around it, and please do not transcribe speech quirks/filler ("you know," "like"). I've been getting better about doing initial scans and asking for resubmissions.

Pics or it didn't happen
I suppose it's a good blackmail opportunity. I wonder if there are "professional" photojournalists who just walk around to peoples' houses all day and take pictures, hoping for something embarrassing.

Be careful, OP. One day, you may find a USB key with a picture on it, demanding $1M in BTC unless you want it released publicly. Your co-workers would make fun of you until death.
1672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: December 22, 2013, 09:44:32 PM
Hi All,

Prolly a silly question, but i'm in the UK, so when wouldbe the best time to start mining, I think it's around 11pm UK time, For me to get the full 24 hour cycle ?
Unpaid balances carry over, so start time is irrelevant unless you only want to mine for one pay cycle (in which case, you'd have an unexchanged/immature balance left sitting there after payout, anyway -- I guess stopping mining a few hours before next pay cycle would minimize unpaid balance when you leave the pool). ASAP is generally the best time to start mining. Wink
1673  Economy / Lending / Scrypt-hashing-backed BTC loans on: December 22, 2013, 09:36:32 PM
Terms:
*No fixed interest, 50KH/s hashing power at pool of my choice per .1BTC loaned for the duration of the loan.
*Hashpower is determined by pool's record after one hour of hashing. Hardware errors, therefor, are not counted into total hashpower. (rejects are)
*You are not liable for any faults of the pool (pool op running away with funds, pool downtime). You are liable for any local issues (power outages, Internet outage, failed mining card, etc).
*Loan is not made until after one hour of hashing pointed at pool I specify. The proceeds of that hour of hashing will be credited toward principal owed. (if you take out a 1BTC loan and mine .0004BTC in that hour's time, you'd only be expected to pay .9996BTC). Should you decide not to go through with the loan, I'll pocket whatever was mined in that time.

*You must be trusted by at least two forum-trusted members going by defaultlist.
*Minimum number of posts on account applying for = 250.
*Minimum loan duration = 24 hours
*Maximum loan duration = 30 days
*Early repay is okay (so long as at least 24 hours have gone by since loan was issued), extensions are possible.
*Minimum loan amount: .5BTC
*Maximum loan amount: 1BTC

I don't deal in altcoins or non-Scrypt mining. (almost a paradox, eh? Grin ) I believe I was pretty conservative in estimates... I'll try to be reasonable and return "excess profits" to you should the situation arise, but I won't guarantee anything. Basically, should there be a situation where I'm effectively charging in excess of 15% monthly (7.5% if you far exceed trust minimums), I'll return anything over that upon return of principal. PM if interested.
1674  Other / Politics & Society / Re: if you know somebody who's looking for work.... on: December 22, 2013, 06:57:07 AM
If you need a job, just come up North. I'm in MI, and you can easily make $15+ per hour (excluding over-time and double-time) so long as you're willing to work 70+ hours per week in a factory (pretty much all of them are understaffed). Where I worked near the beginning of this year - after 5 years employment, you could pick where you wanted to work and the company would pay for training. This could include working in maintenance -- ~80h/wk, but you'd be looking at ~$150K/yr before taxes. If you want a sure-fire way to retire comfortably by 40, ask management if you can park a cheap motorhome or trailer in the lot. All you need is a GED. Alternately, nursing homes are notoriously understaffed just about everywhere (though CNAs are strangely underpaid).

ETA: BTW - legend has it that the factory I'm talking about was so cheap, when a guy had a car with a part we manufacture wind up being a defect, he went to management and asked for a discount to replace it. They offered him 5% under retail.
1675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: December 22, 2013, 05:17:17 AM
Not sure if I should keep mining here, I have 1500khash and past 40h I have gotten 0,039btc, or 0,0235btc/24h.
Seems a bit low?

I mined on the EU server and had a backup pool because no activity on the backup pool I'm assumin I have been mining 100% for the past 40h on middlecoin.
Are you getting a lot of hardware errors? I've had 2.7MH/s on MC and am at >BTC.075 unpaid since last payout while tweaking settings and bringing miners offline fairly frequently.

Have a couple of questions.

How often are payments sent out?
Are all payments shown on the website?
What is the minimum payment sent?

thanks

Cheesy My tip addresses do the same thing, but you have to share the address with nine other people by midnight or your first-born son becomes a leper.
