Or they could mine for something actually useful, supported, and relevant like BTC.

Already CPUs and random GPUs can't make much, and it sets people up to think Bitcoin is a thing that slows down your computer and doesn't actually get you anything valuable inside of a decade. Make bitcoin the next real player! What could possibly go wrong?! ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) I can see lots of ways that this idea could go wrong and few that can go right.

I am thinking of leaving signs in public restrooms that say: "If this restroom needs attention, please scan this code". The QR code would lead to meatspin. Just kidding. But honestly, I would be willing to bet that not many, and likely none at all, would get redeemed out of the general public. Now in an environment with a high concentration of tech skills (e.g. DefCon) I could see a serious percentage of interest getting redeemed.
I wouldn't think that too many in general meat space would get picked up, but would still be interesting to see the numbers. It'd be really cool to see what would happen if there was some sort of nation-wide effort to drop these addresses to see the differences between regions on usage! The data would be wonderful!

The bright side: someone just learned about Bitcoin. I'm thinking about leaving behind paper wallets in public transit, just to see if anything gets spent eventually.
That would be a pretty interesting experiment. I'd be curious how many coins would be used if you even wrote "this is a bitcoin address with BTC on it! It's valuable!" on said paper ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

Now that I think of it, I'm actually kind of surprised that someone like KimDotcom hasn't already heard of bitcoin. You'd think that someone in his position would have come across it long ago.
Maybe he has heard of it, but from his short tweet it sure doesn't.
Mafia enterprises doesnt allways know about the latest technologies, if they make money they rarely look beyond the imminent problems until its too late. Just a bit of history, Capone got away with alot but eventually fell from "grace" due to not thinking properly about his accounting affairs. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Good point ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

As much as I would want this, I don't think Bitcoin is ready yet. Look at how much faster the blockchain is growing with a popular service such as SatoshiDice, which only caters towards Bitcoin users. Now imagine a giant such as MegaUpload, which caters to a much much wider audience, starts using Bitcoin. The blockchain growth would be out of control. Coming up with and implementing features to keep the blockchain growth in check should be top priority right now in my opinion.
Sure ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) Folks where up and downloading gigabytes per DAY using MegaUpload - I am pretty sure they can handle something as laughable tiny as the blockchain. Nice try, tho I don't think he was referring to megaupload themselves handling the blockchain, but everyone else who needs the blockchain dealing with it. It seems that the rapidly increasing blockchain size is something of a major hurdle atm. I was talking about the actual users. Who do you think was downloading all those HD movies of several GBs on MegaUpload? The blockchain is smaller than one of those HD movies - dont even look at those 20GB+ BR rips. And there are tons of web sites out there, where people watch movies in realtime, streaming it. And you really thing someone cares about a few GB? So yes the blockchain probably is too large for the 90s - welcome to more than a decade later ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) There has been a lot of discussion on the topic that I think you need to catch up on. Do a couple searches on the forum.

As I always say, nothing gets features implemented like the imminent catastrophe!

I agree. Very tacky to have a BTC address in your sig. If someone was so damn impressed with your post that they just had to send you money, they'd let you know ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Plus, I've been curious if anyone ever HAS gotten a "tip" via an addy in their sig.

Don't worry, the price of USD will crash to less than 0.13BTC soon enough.

I've bought a couple games off jjgames.com
I'm always looking for stuff to spend BTC on, but I just haven't come across to much stuff that I really want to spend it on.

they are just envious, because our bitcoin super computer is larger than theirs!
This makes me wish I could post there even more! That statement would cause so much angst!

I'd wager OP is kicking himself right now for creating this thread and undoing all the work he did building up a scammer account.

|

Just thought I'd post here a link from another of OP's threads. Bi-polar is a term that comes to mind. Why bitcoin is in big trouble and is ultimately doomed! - http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92424.0rjk, Bit-coin will fail at some point,
In that thread, OP also states he may have been hacked. Since we don't know who is actually running his account, I'd advise against doing ANY business with OP at all.
|
|
|
No. Just trying to get his post count up there so he can ask for that 1000 BTC loan again and hope some sucker gives him the coins.
I enjoy the idea that he thinks that anyone who'd be able to give him a 1000BTC loan wouldn't look at his previous posts.

The OP claimed that he wasn't promoting bitcoin, but someone found a post from earlier today where OP was saying that he wanted to start a "cryptowar" with BTC and promote LTC. OP then claimed his account was hacked and the hacker posted the LTC post ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) It's kinda funny that he used the word "cryptowar"... Posting on the open, public forums of your "enemies" is hardly what I would call "crypto". Well, we are clearly dealing with a mind of the highest caliber here. We could but only dream of understanding his methods.

No no no, that was the guy who hacked his account! The OP would never, ever scam anyone! He is just interested in a real, honest, non-biased discussion on why BITCOIN IS DOOOOOOOOMED!
I never got pass the OP before I posted the above. I see now from the second post that everyone was on top of this. Not sure what you're in reference to, but I believe the answer lies somewhere else in this thread. ~Bruno~ The OP claimed that he wasn't promoting bitcoin, but someone found a post from earlier today where OP was saying that he wanted to start a "cryptowar" with BTC and promote LTC. I have thought about this question for a long time, is bitcoin actually viable. It began as a curiosity, I was wondering how could a currency be totally peer to peer, totally trust-less, and after discovering Bitcoin I couldn't possibly see how it worked. I think looked and realized it wasn't actually a currency, it was more of a commodity, However, the problems with bitcoin are immense. The main problem I see with bitcoin is reliability and trust. The community is fragmented, or non-existent while still trying to persuade itself that it still exists. The majority of people keeping the price where it is, are essentially in it to profit in either the short-medium term and I expect that they have little care for ensuring the market is stable, or that bitcoin grows. The software is difficult to use, and seems to be designed by the kind of people who dont understand the typical financial types that will use bitcoin on a regular basis. Copying and pasting bitcoin public keys all day, is not going to work with anyone, the software needs to be designed to be user-friendly and perhaps even integrated with spreadsheet or accounting software. Also, the project, community and general Eco-system is not organized or managed very well at all. I dont expect bitcoin to even survive 6 months, at least not if you expect the coins to be worth anything or to be traded in any substantial amounts. That is my analysis over the years that I have been involved with the project, and I am sorry to say, many of you are probably wasting your time. I hope things do go well, I am just not optimistic.
Can somebody please tell me how the author of the below now spews the above? I am interested in possibly acquiring a bitcoin loan of about 1000 BTC. I would pay back monthly with bitcoins. I am a trusted member of the community, and am active on the forums and IRC. Would anyone offer me the loan, at how much interest and with what conditions attached?
He sure the hell was optimistic when he wanted to borrow some bitcoins. ~Bruno~ No no no, that was the guy who hacked his account! The OP would never, ever scam anyone! He is just interested in a real, honest, non-biased discussion on why BITCOIN IS DOOOOOOOOMED!
