It seems that the firmware v0.9.4 is unable to restore the performance once the ambient temperature is lowered automatically.

Seems you would need to issue a restart.

I will first do a software restart from the gui to see if that works.

Pulling 540 watts at the wall presently.

i have the same problem
with you?

what we can do?
which firmware you have?
when i install 0.94 firmware is total dead the chip
when install 0.91 work at 75%
which firmware you have?

I'll give you a chance resurrecting your 4th board try this:

press 5x the button of the controller board, wait 10 seconds,
press again 5x the button
turn your PSU off
wait 30 seconds
turn it on
goto WebUI
upgrade to 0.94 (don't ask why)
apply to reboot
goto Mining and apply your pool etc. (needed)
goto status wait till cgminer runs
goto Mining again and apply again

list your results here again

Yes I think I am aware of what you are attempting.

As far as the cores are coming online. I know that just restarting cgminer will get it running at 100% and will pull 580 watts at the wall.

I just want to see if the firmware can adjust to changes in the environmental temperature with out needing any restarts.

You can tell that the core's are indeed coming back online ambient room temp is now below 18 degrees Celsius and power draw at the wall is 536 watts @ 120v.

Note: You can see from the details that providing a low ambient temperature enables the vrm's to start using more power even if the cores were never originally disabled. You can see that occurring with ASIC Board 0 from the results with 25 degrees celsius ambient room temp to sub 18 degrees celsius ambient room temp.

Seems ASIC Module 4 VRM #4 has an issue with temperature.

I have made a note and will later on see if putting a heat sink will help mitigate that.

I have lowered the ambient room temperature back down to under 17 degrees celsius/62 degrees fahrenheit.

It seems that firmware v0.9.4 does not turn back on what it may have turned off. I will wait a few more hours at this ambient temperature to see if the GH/s and wattage goes back up automatically without restarting cgminer.

Would be nice if the KnCminer software dev's would just tell me if that was in the code Smiley Oh well.

Here is the core temps and details at room ambient temperature of 25 degrees celsius with case off and fan on.

Ok what exactly do the Kano patch or firmware?
Make fix the off core at ASIC chips?

Kano is of of the persons that volunteers on the cgminer project.

You do not need him to setup this. However you do need to modify the miner.php file that comes with cgminer and host it on a server. Then in the cgminer.conf file you will have to adjust the jupiters settings under the api line.

sitarow, can I ask what you are using to produce that stats image, looks good.

kano said he's "hosting" the app that produce those stats

Yes and you can read about setting it up on the cgminer documentation under miner.php
2129  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 11, 2013, 01:39:29 PM
do you already try to change the front funs with the avalon type?

I had to make the tests that would tell me what the culprit to the performance hit is.

Very well.

I may as well do that first before attempting to see what the max performance from this unit would be using firmware v0.9.0 and adequate air movement along with a low temp environment. Smiley
2130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 11, 2013, 12:58:10 PM
Okay just completed my final run of tests in order to put one of my suspicions to rest.

It seems that firmware v0.9.4 is highly temperature sensitive. For the last 3hrs I raised the ambient room temperature to 25 degrees celsius in the room.

What I notice is that the processor temps themselves remain low however the unit starts to slow down and the power draw at the wall also goes down.

It stabilized at 535 watts and the performance dropped down under 510 GH/s.

I will provide the screenshots of the details below. If you take the numbers from the last time I updated you and correlate it to the numbers I am going to give you. You will see the results for yourself.

Straight away you notice the hardware error % went up rather than down.

Again this is just the case off the unit with the house fan pointing down on it with the exception that I raised the ambient room temp to 25 degrees celsius.

Firmware v0.9.4 results after 36 hours no cgminer stall or restart.

36 hour results

37 hour results

In conclusion, the results help support my suspicion that the components on the board were overheating is indeed correct. Based on the results I can say with certainty the components on the boards themselves are overheating. It may very well be the VRM's.

Increasing the airflow in and out of the case will not be the only needed steps to resolve the issue. One will need to also provide additional heatsinks on the troubled components in order to maintain an operating performance above 530 GH/s.

EDIT:

I will revert the unit back to firmware 0.9.0 to see if providing adequate cooling will increase the overall performance beyond 540+ that I was getting.

Instead I will just see if changing the intake fans to a higher CFM model will help.

0.93 on both, had 0.94 on them but found HW was higher.

Yes that seems to be the simplest solution at the present.

I will be swapping out the stock fans for 175cfm ones.

I will post the the results on my first impressions post that can be followed at the link bellow.

2133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner list of orders - October delivery on: October 10, 2013, 10:22:50 PM
Pulling 580 watts @120v but I had to take special steps to cool the unit with better ventilation.

Before I was pulling 500 at 540 watts.

I plan on improving the case airflow by simply swapping out the two intake fans with higher cfm fans.

You can follow the results at the link below.

After a solid 24 hours running v.94 near 550 GH/s my jupiter just dropped to 400(ish).  Reboot didn't help,  temp looks normal.    Appears to be due to huge HW errors..   20+%

Giving it an hour to recover but looks like it isn't going back up.  Lost 150 GH/s..

I am close to 24 hr mark myself.

So far the performance is the same once I supplied acquitted ventilation.
2136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 10, 2013, 01:52:36 PM
Here is the 13 hr update.

Note: The next test will be swapping out the two stock fans that ventilate the unit and putting the case back on to see if just doing that is adequate.

2138  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 10, 2013, 03:12:14 AM
glad .94 is working for you.  I think some miners may work better on different firmware right now

My subpar Jupiter that I put on .93 is actually climbing up now.  ~472
So I put my other Jupiter on .93 and it is now at ~500

I'll check back in a couple hours to see how it stays

I forgot to include the 50btc.com results Sad

Here it is. Hardware errors are down to 7.4% and power is at 580 watts at 120v

2139  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 10, 2013, 02:48:30 AM
thanks for the update Sitarow...  proving our assumptions perfectly

I do agree with someone on KNCforums who said that for jupiters that have a lot of HW errors, it is better to use .93
That is true, my crappy jupiter is showing hashing on BTCguild at 446 when it was barely around 410 on .94  (same cooling of fans with top off, but not as good as Sitarow yet)

My second jupiter probably is fine on .94 but just needs even more cooling.. avg 463 on BTCGuild

PS- mininganon, maybe switch to .93   it seems miners that nosedive run more stable on it.   You have it cooled well

Thank you for providing your experience. It helps with getting others to tweak their systems for their environment.

Here are the results after 2 hours on v0.9.4.

2140  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Jupiter Miner First Impressions on: October 10, 2013, 02:04:07 AM
Okay Update.

This is the results after 1hr on firmware v0.9.4 with the case cover off and the large fan placed on top pushing air down.

Yes I needed to restart the miner because of the api configuration settings. (Thanks Kano for the help!)

Results after 1hr on firmware v0.9.4 with adequate cooling.

Note: You can see from the results that this performance is far better then the results we have seen with the case cover on and relying on the stock fans to move cool air into the unit and the hot air out.

Wanted to add that the power at the plug is at 570 watts.
