Was there still TIM oozing out the sides of the heatsink and smudges and smears of TIM on the back of the boards?
2182  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Cooling on: May 11, 2014, 11:13:02 AM
Yes I understand that, but if I place shitload of fans around the miners the whole room will not be like sauna. If I don't they heat up the whole room. Sorry if my question was unclear. I guess Ill just have to keep window open all the time.

Edit: Do you have any idea how much underclocking would take down the heat? Or GH/s?

Its the airflow and exhausting of the heat from the window thats keeping the ambient down. No matter what you do you have to remove the heat from the ambient air or it will just compound the overheating of the miners. As you have discovered, getting good airflow *and* keeping the window open is what works.

Even if you had aircon you still have to get rid of the hot ambient air. The rules don't change.

Underclocking will reduce heat and GH/s, underclocking slightly and undervolting will be more effective, but requires more technical knowledge. Check this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=526060.0

But its  all probably moot depending on the ambient temperatures you are experiencing.

The other option is putting them somewhere where the noise/heat doesn't bother you, like a garage or shed or warehouse or datacenter etc.

The bubble wrap was just plain filthy. It looked like it could have been pulled out of dumpsters. If I had to guess, I would say it was more than just TIM.

I've just had a taste and I'd say there is definitely some spilled soda, peanut butter and ketchup mixed in there.  Oh, and some really good german sausage grease.   Grin

Edit: Oddly, I didn't detect any swedish meatball residue.

Ok thats just gross..  Embarrassed
2184  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Cooling on: May 11, 2014, 10:23:27 AM
Hello!

I have a problem with cooling down my Antminers. I currently have two of them and they produce a crapload of heat which I don't need. What I need help with is cooling the antminers so they wouldn't produce so much heat and noise when the fan goes crazy on cooling them. How should I try to cool them?

I think you need to understand the physics of this, heat is a factor of energy, the miners chips use X amount of energy and produce Y amount of heat. They will always produce the same amount of heat from the energy consumed.

You can do two things.

1. Lower the ambient heat levels
This can be done by moving to a cooler climate or installing airconditioning or managing the airflow in the room where the miners are located. It doesn't stop the miners making the heat but will hopefully not make the heat worse.

2. Reduce the amount of energy consumed
This can be done by underclocking or undervolting the miners. Try checking the threads in this very forum related to this.

But basically you can't make them produce less heat by cooling them, you can just not add to their heat envelope. To make them produce less heat you have to make them use less energy.

Hope this helps.

Guys the garbage KNC is shipping out now is apparently used/faulty hardware from previous RMA's most likely. I would even think some of those parts weren't even soldered on the boards when it was packed up. They just needed to make sure they sent enough parts to make up a full miner rig, that's all. Seriously, how can those little tiny parts fall off like that?

They can't "fall off like that" the 1kg heatsinks and fans were not attached properly and came off rolling around all over the inside of the case smashing bits off.

But you have the manufacturer, the people that actually make the product shipping it in this manner. I could see if they hired high school kids and told them to go box up all that hardware over there and when you are done let me know. When you are dealing with a product that is worth $10,000 you do things right the first way, especially when time is such an evil thing.

Oh I don't disagree that they were badly designed, packed and shipped. Just pointing out that the components didn't just "fall off" they were smashed off. Smiley
2186  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 10, 2014, 07:25:05 PM
The situation for them legally will continue to escalate until they do something to make this right. If indeed the FBI is looking into them then thats all she wrote. Might be a good time for them to start waving the white flag and start paying us back in full OR getting us miners. We made what I think are fair terms. Hell if we were to get 2 antminer S2s per 1.2ths miner purchase they would still be better off. I'm using them as an example from a price point only. Seeing as the price dropped 100 bucks in the last few days they now save a bit more. They might want to consider this path as an option to quickly close the book on this because this situation is going to escalate much faster now even with the class action.

And yet, a small positive post by AMT will probably get some people back on the defensive again. Won't take much for some. Its like stockholm syndrome.

1. No way they can declare bankruptcy whilst declaring "a million kronar a day" in fiat.
2. Embezzle? No need when the deception has been done, and have "a million kronar a day" to wallow in.
3. How does one "embezzle" from a personal wallet thru mining again? (Your #4 makes absolutely no sense mate)
"There is nothing that proves that they are not allready embezzling using personal wallets to mine to at "our" DC up north."
Huh? Mine with a wallet?  Have you ever mined Bitcoin?

If you meant our money from our preorders...  Well, one could also argue the fact they made plenty from Jupiter and Saturn previously, under decent terms.... plenty enough to cover Boden.  I'm not sticking up for them here, but there's no sense in dwelling on this too much... we in this thread have been over and over this information hundreds of times examining the facts, and your assuming they used preorder money for Boden doesn't hold water.
There's absolutely no evidence of embezzlement here...  dishonesty, and deception; yes..... embezzlement, no, sorry can't agree.
Embezzlement would be more like a KNC employee siphoning funds to a personal address at KNC's expense... and frankly, I'd give a shit less about that... I'd say then... "Karma is a bitch"  Tongue

If KNC made enough money for Boden from original orders (Saturns and Jupiters) why in the world would they need to finance the development of the Neptunes and Titans with preorders?

Maybe because it costs a lot more to do that than build a cheap ass datorhall with old kit that they can knock out a 10c a dozen?

What do you mean as import duty? Isn't it considered a computer so you have 0 import duty but you only pay vat.
Is this correct or not?

If it is: if you buy it as a company in eu you pay the vat but get it back or offset it. So in this case cost stays at 3200 + maybe 100 on top for customs expenses.

I was mainly asking what will you do with the 8 BTC Instead? Buy GH with cex.io for example?

He probably expects to buy and hold and hope BTC increases in value.

As to the difficulty level, someone just dropped 26PH on the network in the last 2 days Shocked

Roadstress you have yours at home in Bonnie Scotland right?

Can you do a video of it with audio on? I'd like to see what it sounds like in a non-datacenter environment before I make any decisions on purchasing

Cheers.

what is it
RRP

Reccomended Retail Price, or what the price is on the web site before discount.
2191  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: LIGHTNINGASIC LA75M,75MHS SCRYPT Miner, USD8800; LA1THS, USD2450.shipped out!!! on: May 09, 2014, 09:31:35 AM
Did any of you guys (or girls) imported these new asics to EU? How much were Import duties and taxes?
BUMP

You just pay VAT at whatever the rate is for your country, e.g. 20% for many EU countries and a 15EUR handling charge to the carrier.

The supplier will generally put whatever value you want on the package if you ask them, as long as its reasonable and legit, sometimes they put the RRP but sometimes whatever you ask.

But be prepared to pay the full VAT amount of the RRP and then you won't be dissapointed.
2192  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Official AMT Thread on: May 09, 2014, 06:42:17 AM
I'm sure Joshua Zipkin will rear his ugly head again soon - and give another excuse as to the delay on this particular update/plan. It will be more "talked about solutions" with no substance or anything you can take to the bank. This has been the case with EVERY so-called "update" for the past 6 months.

Joshua will continue to do this as he has each time in the past, buying himself more time.

Anyone that hasn't talked with a lawyer yet, has made a large error based on false trust. Do not get duped into holding off any longer, you can always cancel on the suit if AMT miraculously does right by everyone (not looking like that will happen).

AMT founder Joshua Zipkin deserves to be in jail and/or heavily fined and charged with fraud. Anyone else involved with this RUSE that is AMT should also be held accountable.

@AMT...we were expecting an update today based on your word. At this point all of us are holding AMT accountable for this...considering that this is more of the same misrepresentation, you are legally liable while in the middle of a lawsuit for presenting this information to us. You cannot expect us to not be angry when you back out on your word yet again. I have to concur with sirminesalot on this position. We all have been waiting an incredible amount of time and being strung along with what should have been a simple transaction.

We still have no information on process for RMA, or what will replace the current product....will the MPP be honored? and if so why not? We have been asking what are valid questions here and considering the circumstances it is incumbent upon you to provide some answers for us. We have all tried to be very patient some more than others, but with this latest break in word, its getting old. While you have had marto validate that you will be using his designs, the concern is that he is not making them and instead we are again relying on you to provide us with hardware (because the first time did not go so well so can you blame us).....also it appears now you have the FBI investigating you based on Mrparks source. Considering his background which you publicly posted, I would not consider that a bluff.

I personally tried to help out for the sake of the customers but it does not appear you really want to try to make this right. Communication is key in all this and we are just seeing more words with little or no substance. If you say you will post an announcement then post it when you say you will. At this point the chips fall where they may. I had hoped keeping order in this thread would actually help get you to communicate more, but its only lead to alot more of the same misleading and stringing along statements.

Oh Oh Josh.. the carrot is looking a bit rancid!
2193  Economy / Services / Re: [Lee group]7200$! get one A2 terminator-90 work for you within 48 hours on: May 08, 2014, 11:29:04 PM
Is this group buy for anything besides scrypt miners now?
yes, 7200$! get one A2 terminator-90 work for you within 48 hours, it is a 60% pay before use, and pay the rest 40% within 15 days, but for you i can set a special offer to thanks for the development of cgminer. how about 40% pay now, and the rest 60% within one month:)

He means are you selling the Dragon A1 BTC miners still in this Group buy or is it just the A2 Scrypt machines. If its just the scrypt miners then he will move it to a different board.
2194  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain S2 vs Spondoolies SP10 on: May 08, 2014, 08:36:55 PM
I have both S2 and SP10 in my racks...

SP10 is second to none in build quality and reliability.

S2 was built to be a cheap box they can just toss at customers and lower the price as needed -- like the S1.

My S2 arrived as a pile of parts, i had to reassmble it and 4 of the hash boards were damaged in shipping so its hash as about 600 GH/s.  Trying to get replacements but communication is difficult.

SP10's are super high quality, very solid performers and a bit better power efficiency.    The web interface is very straight forward and simple to configure.

@ $3200 SP10 group buy VS $2599 for the S2, i would (and did) pay the extra money and buy the SP10 all day long.   Both should ship within a week or two.

Second that. Spondoolies is the mercedes of mining hardware. s2 is a cheap nissan sunny.

WTF these are bitcoin miners, as long as they do their job as specced who cares what they look or "feel" like?
2195  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain S2 vs Spondoolies SP10 on: May 08, 2014, 03:21:18 PM
SP10 is not 0.7W/GH
2196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 08, 2014, 02:52:11 PM
It is an easy solution, but I doubt that they will take this route.
Solution: compete in a spot market (like S1 and current Cointerra) or 1-2 weeks order market (like S2 and SP-10).
Can't they make a box with a couple more jupiter modules, hashing at 1th? It should be sellable at $2-2.2K.
I know that it is about 4 months late, but it would help with the cash flow.
I think that they will do this once they get 20nm chips, otherwise I don't see any future here.

This was suggested a long time ago.

I don't think they have a cash flow problem.
2197  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 08, 2014, 02:37:44 PM
I must have been one of the last purchasers from Batch 3, I feel a little hard done by when they announce a 4th batch $600 lessor in price when they hadn't even dispatched my order yet... Anyway moving along, I don't if this has been raised but I'm curious about the Quality Assurance standards are with Bitmain. I just received my S2 and its been running for 8hrs now and I've been monitoring it for the last couple of hours and the hash rate has been falling about 10gh an hour for the last 3 hours and its now sitting @ 935GH/S (avg). What this the tolerance of hitting the target? Because >-5% doesn't seem acceptable.

Could be temperature related. What are the temps on the 10 Chains?

Hello comrades...

It seems that there is a hot topic that needs its own thread as the comparison and smearing conversations are hijacking threads.

Let's keep it clean and have a nice discussion regarding Advantages and Disadvantages of both products.... GO GO GO

No thanks

2200  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help New AntMiner S2 Lcd not working and cant connect. on: May 07, 2014, 05:11:19 PM
Hello.
My problem is that when im turning on my AntMiner S2 its making lots of noice like its working all properly but my Lcs is not working at all. Its like just not working , no leds working no beeping and not even lightening , and of courst showing nothink on it. I hoped its not that bad , that maybe i can just configure it without that lcd working. I followed to steps from other topic : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=518205.0

"Configuration is straight forward as Antminer S2s are standalone.

Power on as above.
Plug in a network cable from the S2 to your router.
Change your router's subnet to 1, ie 192.168.1.x. This is just temporary. If this is not possible, see below indented steps.
Unplug your computer from all internet sources.
Plug in a network cable from the S2 to your computer.
Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings
Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties
Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties
Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.99
Resume normal steps.
Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.1.99 - this goes to the S2's configuration page."

I done all that and still not connection into this configuration page , its not finding anythink.

Do You know what's seams to be a problem? Cry

You should have opened it up and made sure everything was connected and seated correctly before turning it on.
