221  Economy / Economics / Re: Death of Bitcoins made by Apple? on: September 05, 2014, 03:18:40 AM
Apple should use bitcoin for this instead, it would be better...

that is completely against everything that apple is about. they like to control everything and forcefeed you what you like or don't like.. plus you can make more money that way.
222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on BBC2 UK. NOW . 9p.m.. on: September 05, 2014, 03:16:37 AM
indeed its not suppose to be too techy, it is made to inform the laymen

..to everyone claiming that they didnt mention much of bitcoin.. sorry but the TV show is titled and described as being about the darkweb so dont treat it like a bitcoin program that wasted too much time on the darkweb, treat it like a darkweb program that mentioned bitcoin.

just be happy that they gave bitcoin a fair balanced view

one could argue that i was bias in favor of bitcoin. the way the episode was formatted was basically: governments around the world are snooping into your shit, but there's hope. and bitcoin is one of the reasons for that.
223  Other / Off-topic / Re: EverQuest Vets? on: September 05, 2014, 03:10:02 AM
everquest was the fucking shit.. way better than WoW, but also more addictive. imo, the main difference was that the game is so damn hardcore.. if you die, you lose exp. and on the server i played, if someone kills you, you end up losing your 1 piece of gear.. this caused a lot of in-battling and hatred among other players, but that's what made it so damn fun. it was also the only game that has ever made me punch a wall  Cheesy

i also remember camping out for jboots and i was so damn happy after getting it. oh, and i'd sit around town selling "KEI" for PP. i won't ever enjoy, and hate at the same time, a video game like that again.
224  Economy / Speculation / Re: You'd better sell when APPLE competes with bitcoin.. on: September 05, 2014, 01:53:29 AM
what has apple done since steve jobs has passed away? i don't follow them so thoroughly, but it doesn't seem like they've done anything of significance. imo, if they don't come out with anything groundbreaking, and top it off with a few flops, their stock could go down a good deal.

They are slowly dying... without their salesman they are aiming to resume to be what they were.
And some groundbreaking stuff means nothing, Jobs invented nothing was just a good salesman.
i
i think they are too, but that remains to be seen. their stock has still been rising for years since he died. it's just that i see them holding stockpiles of cash and not really investing anything, so i don't think they're going to continue being innovative. it's just ipads and iphones annually, with insignificant technological advancements.
225  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The Worst Year for BTC? on: September 05, 2014, 01:45:06 AM
September 4, 2013
1 BTC = $123

September 4, 2014
1 BTC = $475

That's an increase of $352 (286%) over 1 year.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the remaining 4 months.

I agree with DH.  This year is no worse than last when we were all worried about the drop from the 250 to 100.  Too early to close the books on the year.  However, even if BTC ends at this level it will still be a year of consolidation.  There are threats to bitcoin but it seems to keep chugging along.

we're talking about 2014 though, so we'd have to compare prices on january 1 to whatever it'll be on december 31. if i recall correctly, we started the year out in the 900's.
226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Charlie Shrem - "I Knew What I Was Doing Was Wrong" on: September 05, 2014, 12:12:29 AM
so for him to say this.. does it imply he has some sort of deal to say what he did to receive a lighter sentence?
227  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Billionaires Quietly Preparing for Market Plunge on: September 05, 2014, 12:07:31 AM
A simple forecast of what corporate earnings will be with normalized interest rates shows their future.  These companies are all riding on low rates, just like the FED wanted.  That's going to come to a screeching halt.

Why? When central banks finally decide to raise rates, they are likely to do it very slowly and gradually.

then that would mean the economy would probably start sputtering a bit, which would reflect in the stock prices. my point is that artificial fed money and lower interest rates are in place in order to create an artificial "demand" which makes companies more valuable. the long-term trend is that the middle class is cratering, while the upper tier of earners is rising. weakening middle class = weakening economy = weakening stock market.
228  Other / Meta / Re: theymos met personally Satoshi ? on: September 04, 2014, 11:58:14 PM
probably a .0001% chance that theymos met satoshi. and if he did, he wouldn't tell anyone here - don't you think he'd be hounded by all the snoopy people on this forum? satoshi, unlike ulbricht, was pretty damn smart; not only did he create bitcoin, but he covered his tracks pretty well.
229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on BBC2 UK. NOW . 9p.m.. on: September 04, 2014, 11:56:33 PM
Only felt like a superficial glossing over of the important details, didn't have a great deal of depth to it.  Maybe they're trying to keep it simple for the non-tech-savvy people out there.  Hardly any coverage at all on Bitcoin, barely scratching the surface there.  But I suppose that's to be expected for now until the learning curve gets a little less steep.  Probably took their researchers a while just to produce what limited info they did.

Regular people don't want to study economics in order to be able to pay for their coffee. It's the same when it comes to mobile phones. Tech savvy people always complain that people don't 'get' technology. But what they're missing is, that they themselves don't 'get' people.

yeah i agree, this is to educate the common viewer.. not someone who is an enthusiast. i think they mentioned that bitcoin is "completely anonymous" or something to that effect, which is not true but if that's one of my biggest gripes, then the episode wasn't all that bad.
230  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS Threatens Putin/Russia on: September 04, 2014, 08:26:05 PM
i can't tell if they're actually serious about attacking america and other nations. i guess they want to to be confused whether they are really crazy enough to provoke america. an attack on american soil would pretty much guarantee deployment of troops to re-take ISIS strongholds.

i bet the U.S. and west wouldn't mind attack on russia though.. keep them occupied  Cheesy
231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on BBC2 UK. NOW . 9p.m.. on: September 04, 2014, 08:15:37 PM
i don't watch the BBC much, so i don't get why people dislike them. they seem to be as good as you could expect. CNN, on the other hand, asks shit like "who or what is this 4chan?"

233  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: September 04, 2014, 07:57:47 PM
damn, the wealther nations should provide more financial assistance in containing this shit. those people are not being fed, what do you expect them to do? starve to death in bed? and if this shit spreads, it will reach the developed nations.

by the way, if they do develop vaccines, what happens when the virus mutates? it'll probably become immune.
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indonesians Can Now Buy Bitcoin at Over 10,000 Indomaret Stores on: September 04, 2014, 07:51:49 PM
indonesia is a largely islamic country, and there's evidence that ISIS is attracting some people from there to join up with them. how likely is it that ISIS uses indonesia's accessibility to bitcoins in order to help fund their operations?
235  Economy / Speculation / Re: POLL: Do you still expect a big rally in the next 60 days? on: September 04, 2014, 07:47:49 PM
There's no reason for the price to drop again, I'm expecting this rally for sure.

yeah, but if you were to expect a rally, then you'd also need a reason for it to actually make a rally.

so no, i don't expect a rally.. but that of course would not surprise me since it's bitcoin after all.
236  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CNN national poll: Rand Paul 13%, Bush 13%, Ryan 12%, Huckabee 10%, Christie 9% on: September 04, 2014, 07:45:34 PM
btw, there's also news of the ron paul scandal affecting rand.. i'm not quite sure how fair it is to label rand guilty by association, but that's the way it works i guess.

turns out ron paul was willing to "buy" endorsements, which to me, makes him the same as every other politician.

Bribing election officials would.

the thing is, there is no evidence that rand bribed anyone - it was just his dad. i'm pretty sure rand would do the same though, but blaming him for what his dad did is not quite fair.
237  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The Worst Year for BTC? on: September 04, 2014, 07:38:08 PM
in terms of adoption, it's by far the best year for bitcoin.. i mean, we have a list of 10 really big companies that adopted bitcoin. in terms of price, no. so it just depends on your perspective.

239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on BBC2 UK. NOW . 9p.m.. on: September 04, 2014, 07:33:51 PM
Dark web shouldn't be introduced...wrong way of showing the use of BTC.

watch the episode. it wasn't about BTC specifically, it was about the dark web.. which BTC is a part of. not everything is bitcoin-centric.
240  Economy / Speculation / Re: If BTC doesn't go below $440, prepare for liftoff on: September 04, 2014, 07:33:04 PM
i'm thinking bitcoin might not take off until after this year, especially if the winklevi ETF doesn't come out. once christmas season comes around, retailers are going to be getting a lot more bitcoins, especially if they offer steep discounts like newegg has done.
