482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin = political? on: August 05, 2014, 07:24:23 PM
why does OP think libertarian is not a political faction? it is one. a definition of politics is "having a policy or system of government." libertarianism is a policy, or world view of how "government" should or shouldn't function. libertarian and politics are not mutually exclusive.
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it time to get a new "bitcoin foundation"??? on: August 05, 2014, 07:22:01 PM
i still have no fucking idea what the bitcoin foundation does that helps the cause of bitcoin.. so i'd say no, we don't need bitcoin foundation. it's just another way for people to group together to help themselves out (and gives them a perception of authority).
484  Other / Politics & Society / Re: An open letter from the Netherlands to Putin… We are sorry! on: August 05, 2014, 07:20:01 PM
christ, all these world issues happening at once.. when you give a good look at both sides, it's really hard to pick one.. because both make compelling arguments, and both are also assholes.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC .com - SOLD - $1,000,000 on: August 05, 2014, 07:18:48 PM
yea man that was cheap
vodka.com was sold for 3m

http://domainnamewire.com/2006/12/14/vodkacom-sells-for-3m/

i'm guessing more people know "vodka" than they do bitcoin though. as much as bitcoin has made in strides, it's not as ubiquitous as we think.
486  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: August 05, 2014, 07:15:39 AM
my favorite two are the dark knight rises and watchmen. i can't get into action movies unless the storyline is interesting or thought provoking. actually, i could.. but only if the theme were less mundane than most comic book stories. i like guardians because it's sci-fi ish.

ha, i also liked john carter.. did anyone else enjoy that movie?
487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC .com - SOLD - $1,000,000 on: August 05, 2014, 07:14:02 AM
Fucking hell, that's a great sale though arguably may have risen even more in value if the owner had held on
Gonna herald a new era of crypto domain squatting

man, if i had that domain, i'd sell it at $1 million easily. you never know what's going to happen with bitcoin after all.
488  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rich Koreans Withdrawing Huge Amounts of Won from Banks on: August 05, 2014, 05:59:37 AM
i don't see how that's going to direct the demand towards bitcoin. if a lot of rich people are looking for new places to put money, in a country that is technologically advanced, it could be possible that south korea might start bringing in some more coins.
489  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: August 05, 2014, 05:38:08 AM
surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but has anyone seen guardians of the galaxy? i haven't seen a marvel movie in a long time, because i haven't found any of them to be that interesting.. but i like guardians of the galaxies' style and theme. i like the interstellar sci fi shit with weird looking characters and quirky humor.

Im not into comic book adaptations really. My little girl saw it and liked it though.

people keep saying it's something like this generation's star wars.. and the box office numbers do indicate that. i think 44% of the audience was female too.. that's the highest for a marvel film. i might see it.
490  Other / Politics & Society / Rich Koreans Withdrawing Huge Amounts of Won from Banks on: August 05, 2014, 05:24:36 AM
south korea is very technologically adept.. probably one of the most technology-friendly countries in the world. now with these new tax laws, it seems like they are flocking to gold.. and possibly bitcoin?

Quote
A lot of wealthy people in Korea have been withdrawing billions won from banks recently, a so-called “exodus of money.” This money exodus started one or two years ago, and has been proven by the statistics of the Bank of Korea.

According to the statistics of Bank of Korea, individual or corporate accounts with amounts greater than 500 million won (US$484,470) in commercial banks have constantly increased, to a total of 79,940 accounts in 2011. The amount, however, started to decrease from 2012, and there were only 72,400 such accounts last year. The total balance of those accounts increased by 80 trillion won (US$77.5 billion) within one year of 2010, but decreased by 13.7 trillion won (US$13.2 billion) last year.

Wealthy people have three major reasons for this withdrawal trend. The first one is that the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), started by the U.S. government in July, is effective in Korea as well. FATCA requires financial companies to report the names and account balances of overseas financial accounts, if U.S. citizens or permanent residents have them, to the U.S. tax authority. As the automatic exchange of tax information between Korea and the U.S. was concluded, Korean financial institutions should report the list of U.S. clients with more than US$50,000 (51.6 million won) in assets to the US government. If unreported overseas assets are revealed, the U.S. government imposes multi-million dollar fines. Accordingly, rich US citizens and permanent residents who live in Korea have moved their assets to gold or commercial real estate.

The second reason is that the targets of aggregate taxation on financial income expanded to people who have more than 20 million won (US$19,397) of financial income annually (originally 40 million won, US$38,726). The maximum tax rate of aggregate taxation on financial income is 41.8 percent.

Considering the current one year interest rate of a savings account is around 2.7 percent, deposits of 800 million won (US$775,152) or more are imposed with an aggregate taxation on financial income. Many wealthy people are withdrawing their deposits in order to avoid taxes.

491  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CNN national poll: Rand Paul 13%, Bush 13%, Ryan 12%, Huckabee 10%, Christie 9% on: August 05, 2014, 05:09:05 AM
elizabeth warren is now being pressured to run by the kennedys.. she is basically my democrat version of rand paul. i like her quite a bit. imagine a warren vs. paul presidential bid.. that'd be great. http://www.newsmax.com/newswidget/kennedys-pushing-warren-hillary-clinton/2014/08/03/id/586512/?promo_code=13074-1&utm_source=13074The_hill&utm_medium=nmwidget&utm_campaign=widgetphase1

Warren lost all credibility from moderates when it was revealed how much in contributions she took from those big banks she supposedly was supposed to shake a stick at.  I find it funny that the big banks that would be so fearful of her vengeance are throwing money at her.  Must be because so many of them were jailed by Obama/Holder.

that does sound fishy. but on the other hand, there are probably a lot of people who work for banks/wall street and want to change the status quo, but don't speak up openly.. it's quite a big group of people after all.

it is a bit ridiculous how much obama received from wall street. they knew there was going to be a big fallout, so they probably paid him all of that money for "protection."
492  Other / Politics & Society / Israel Flagged as Top Spy Threat to U.S. in New Snowden/NSA Document on: August 05, 2014, 04:59:59 AM
http://www.newsweek.com/israel-flagged-top-spy-threat-us-new-snowdennsa-document-262991

Israel was singled out in 2007 as a top espionage threat against the U.S. government, including its intelligence services, in a newly published National Security Agency (NSA) document obtained by fugitive leaker Edward Snowden, according to a news report Monday.

The document also identified Israel, along with North Korea, Cuba and India, as a “leading threat” to the infrastructure of U.S. financial and banking institutions.

The threats were listed in the NSA’s 2007 Strategic Mission List, according to the document obtained by journalist/activist Glenn Greenwald, a founding editor of The Intercept, an online magazine that has a close relationship with Snowden, a former NSA and CIA contractor who fled the U.S. with thousands of top-secret documents last year.

Newsweek Magazine is Back In Print

In this new document, Israel was identified by the NSA as a security threat in several areas, including “the threat of development of weapons of mass destruction” and “delivery methods (particularly ballistic and nuclear-capable cruise missiles).” The NSA also flagged Israel’s “WMD and missile proliferation activities” and “cruise missiles” as threats.

In a section of the document headed “Foreign Intelligence, Counterintelligence; Denial & Deception Activities: Countering Foreign Intelligence Threats,” Israel was listed as a leading perpetrator of “espionage/intelligence collection operations and manipulation/influence operations…against U.S. government, military, science & technology and Intelligence Community” organs.

The term “manipulation/influence operations” refers to covert attempts by Israel to sway U.S. public opinion in its favor. In this, Israel has dubious company, according to the NSA: Other leading threats were listed as China, Russia, Cuba, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea, France, Venezuela and South Korea.

Israel has similar company in threats against U.S. infrastructure, according to the NSA document. Under a section headed “Mastering Cyberspace and Preventing an Attack on U.S. Critical Information Systems,” Israel, India, North Korea and Cuba are identified as “FIS [financial/banking system] threats.” Israel also appears on the list of countries believed by the NSA to be “enabling” electronic warfare “producers/proliferators.”

The new document again underscores the schizoid relationship between the U.S. and Israel, which cooperate closely in military and intelligence operations but also aggressively spy on each other. A previously released Snowden document said that “one of NSA’s biggest threats is actually from friendly intelligence services, like Israel.” Another revealed that a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate ranked Israel as “the third most aggressive intelligence service against the U.S.,” behind only China and Russia.

In a series of articles last May, Newsweek reported that “Israel has been caught carrying out aggressive espionage operations against American targets for decades,” an allegation vociferously denied by Israeli officials, who insisted that Jerusalem stopped spying on the U.S. after the late 1980s arrest and conviction of its secret agent Jonathan Pollard, a U.S. Naval Intelligence analyst. Over the weekend, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported that Israel eavesdropped on Secretary of State John Kerry’s cellphone conversations during Middle East peace talks in 2013. (According to a July 20, 2014, piece in The New Republic, “The Kerry team spoke more carefully over cell phones, believing the Israelis might be listening.”)

The State Department had no comment on the Der Spiegel allegations.

Washington’s protective relationship toward Israel is heavily influenced by its close cooperation in intelligence operations against common Middle Eastern threats, such as Iran, Syria, terrorist groups and the Palestinians.

Citing NSA documents, Greenwald’s piece in The Intercept says, “The relationship has, on at least one occasion, entailed the covert payment of a large amount of cash to Israeli operatives.” The NSA and its British counterpart also “rely on U.S.-supported Arab regimes, including the Jordanian monarchy and even the Palestinian Authority Security Forces, to provide vital spying services regarding Palestinian targets.

“Over the last decade,” Greenwald added, “the NSA has significantly increased the surveillance assistance it provides to its Israeli counterpart, the Israeli SIGINT National Unit (ISNU; also known as Unit 8200), including data used to monitor and target Palestinians. In many cases, the NSA and ISNU work cooperatively with the British and Canadian spy agencies, the GCHQ and CSEC.”

even the closest allies to the U.S. are not considered friends to us.

rand paul is being called out for going back on his word.. it's already happening, he's getting all this scrutiny and his message is starting to get muddled because he has to appeal to the populous.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Monday denied that he once supported ending federal aid to Israel — an idea he proposed as recently as 2011.

“I haven’t really proposed that in the past,” Paul told Yahoo News when asked if he still thought the U.S. should phase out aid to Israel, which has been battling Hamas in Gaza for weeks. “We’ve never had a legislative proposal to do that. You can mistake my position, but then I’ll answer the question. That has not been a position — a legislative position — we have introduced to phase out or get rid of Israel’s aid. That’s the answer to that question. Israel has always been a strong ally of ours and I appreciate that. I voted just this week to give money — more money — to the Iron Dome, so don’t mischaracterize my position on Israel.”

Paul, who was in Omaha campaigning for Nebraska Senate candidate Ben Sasse before a three-day tour of neighboring Iowa, may not like it when reporters bring up his proposal from three years ago to end all U.S. foreign aid — including to Israel. But that was in fact his position.

In 2011, the newly elected Paul proposed a budget that would have cut $500 billion from the federal budget in part by cutting off foreign aid to all countries, including financial grants to Israel. The United States provides about $3 billion to Israel annually, and last week the Senate approved $225 million to help support Israel’s Iron Dome technology, which blocks rocket fire from Gaza. (Paul supported the measure.)

Paul, in his first months in office, however, defended phasing out aid by saying that the U.S. could no longer afford to give cash to other countries.

“I’m not singling out Israel. I support Israel. I want to be known as a friend of Israel, but not with money you don’t have,” Paul said in 2011 during an interview with ABC News. “We can’t just borrow from our kids’ future and give it to countries, even if they are our friends.”

He even pointed to Israel as an example of a nation that doesn’t need foreign aid because of its own wealth.

“I think they’re an important ally, but I also think that their per capita income is greater than probably three-fourths of the rest of the world,” Paul said, also in 2011. “Should we be giving free money or welfare to a wealthy nation? I don’t think so.”

Paul, a possible 2016 presidential contender whom some in the GOP regard as insufficiently pro-Israel, has recently changed his tune on foreign aid to the Jewish state. His budget proposals since 2001 have included aid to Israel.

It’s one thing for a politician to admit that his views have changed on an issue and an entirely other thing to say that he never held the position at all.

Hey hilariousandco, I'd give snapcard a try. It's the place where I purchased my past two phones from. Including my latest iPhone 5S. Here's the phone from Amazon for $539,
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Android-Factory-Unlocked-Shipping/dp/B00F61CTG6/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1407177771&sr=8-10&keywords=HTC+One+M8+red

Thanks for the suggestion, but if I order from the American Amazon seller I'll more than likely get hit with massive customs fees, that's if they even ship to the UK.

do you guys not have phone contracts? if so, i'd say you guys do it better m8. i hate contracts, they are designed to keep you locked with your shitty carrier.
