2201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin ATM Has a Dirty Secret: It Needs a Chaperone on: January 30, 2014, 08:04:11 AM
A man was sitting next to the machine, at one of the cafe’s wooden tables, and he was holding a sign that read: “Don’t Pay Transaction Fees.” This very human entrepreneur, you see, was undercutting the world’s first bitcoin ATM. As people walked in to use the machine — which was charging a 7 percent transaction fee — he offered to exchange their money, by hand, at a lower rate.

2202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Somebody bet $7M worth of BTC... on: January 30, 2014, 07:59:36 AM
software gambling websites are rigged. As a programmer I could make the software do anything. watch your betting habits and then when you bit big you lose. I can also see how much btc you have in your local wallet and the one you sent from. So make the game play accordingly

Correction: "As a programmer I could make the closed source software do anything."

But to be fair to Caiapfas, he does have a point. I'm not saying that just-dice is doing this, but theoretically, a gambling company COULD insert fake dice rolls earlier in the gambling record, and especially if they only do it for a couple high-rollers, its EXTREMELY unlikely anybody would ever notice.

i notice the tx was "relayed by ip" 76.10.140.37 . is it most likely that the transaction physically originated in/near the area that this ip resides?

Very unlikely.

When you creates a tx, your wallet broadcasts it to your peers, and your peers further relay it to the whole bitcoin network.
Eventually, somebody will relay the tx to blockchain.info and then the site will record the IP of that body.
Indeed, if you check the homepage on blockchain.info, you will find that the site is connected to "only" a few hundred nodes at a time. https://blockchain.info/connected-nodes

Or, you could push your tx directly on site like blochachian.info. https://blockchain.info/pushtx

2. Harder or easier to launch alt-coins in the future
Each day we hear about a new alt coin being created. This is the combination of a couple of factors. The first is that it's getting easier and easier to create an alt-coin. Many have now paved the way and there are even pay services http://coingen.io/ which let you just pay some cash, plug in some values, and it creates the alt coin for you.

My question is will it be easier to launch an alt coin in the future due to the proliferation of tools and open source code or will it be harder because of the chance that your alt coin's blockchain could be 51%ed by all of the mining power sitting out on the web.

It's already incredibly easy to launch an altcoin, but the problem will eventually be the market is going to become so saturated at one point that people won't even bother mining most of them and they'll be dead on arrival.

It is definitely easier to launch, you don't even need know anything about programming.
Just pay 0.05btc to coingen, and think of a fancy name and icon. Wink

But I think it will be more difficulty for those real innovative coins to get success, due to the flood of scamcoins.
2207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $75 fee? Why????? on: January 30, 2014, 07:15:02 AM
The default fee for that transaction would either be 0 or 0.1 mBTC ($0.08) so this was selected by the user.

However I do think it would be a good idea if the client warned users before doing something that 99.9999999999% of the time is simply a mistake.  Paying a fee 100x what is required is almost always going to be a mistake and for the one in a million that it isn't the user could always override the warning.

Quote
"WARNING:  You are about to send a transaction with a fee of 90 mBTC per kB.  This is 900x the minimum fee required, and more than 450x the average fee paid by Bitcoin users in the last 24 hours.

Are you sure you wish to pay a fee of 90 mBTC?

[Yes - Send with 90mBTC fee]  [No - Cancel Transaction] [No - Reduce fee to 0.1 mBTC]

This would be a great idea.

This is what we(in the I.T. business) refer as to as a error 4.

The error is roughly 4 inches in front of the screen.

An old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted."

ID 10 T error.

2208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are fees channelled to miners? on: January 30, 2014, 07:08:30 AM
Also the fees received by mining pool might or might not be distributed among miners (participating in particular pool). This is entirely up to the pool's policy and such division is unenforceable. However pools usually do this. Otherwise they would loose miners.

Only one that i know that pays miners for tx fees and orpahn blocks is BTC Guild.

For PPLNS, miners will be paid for tx fees.
For PPS, miners will be paid for orphan blocks, but with a higher fee.

So, it should be "or" instead of "and"  Wink

And if you are talking about pools that pay tx fees, then they are indeed pretty common. Smiley

Can't view youtube.  summary?

Yeah, I know. All that bandwidth and such.

Smiley

Don't know others situations but Youtube is blocked in quite a few countries in the world.  Not everyone has the luxury of an open internet Sad....infact the country with the most internet users in the world have heavily censored internet.  Enjoy the luxuries of not having to pay for a VPN to view things like youtube, it's a luxury many people take for granted.

And the good thing about bitcoin is that you can still use it in those countries Wink

would be a nice twist of history if BTC makes these 2 twins richer than Zuckerberg  Cool

Quite likely to happen, if not from meteoric rise of BTC then from slow decline of FB

lol Cheesy
IMHO, FB will slowly die in a few years.
2211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I Quit My Day Job (Let's Talk Bitcoin!) on: January 30, 2014, 06:51:01 AM
Work is work, man. Nobody goes to work because it's fun and exciting. I hope you have enough to live on and good luck.

So true for 99% of people. Sure a few people have fun doing their jobs, just never met any Smiley

2212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are all the Bitcoin millionaires? on: January 30, 2014, 06:46:02 AM
I'm sure they will prefer to stay under the radar. Just check the list of Btc top address and see how people beg for BTC with shitty stories https://blockchain.info/address/1933phfhK3ZgFQNLGSDXvqCn32k2buXY8a

lol at all those asian student stories. Cheesy
Even Stunna (owner of PD) made use of it to advertise his site, though his payment is bigger. Tongue

The money you're offering is a joke.

True lol.
But, I did it for OP.
Not because of the bitcoin, but I am just curious what the site is. Tongue

Whats the site?

I don't think I should tell you Tongue
After all, OP keeps it secret to everyone, and I guess he just don't want to make it public Smiley

mean 0.0003 for this secret its very less he must pay some more

The bitcoin is never the incentive lol.
I am just so curious why OP cannot register the account himself and why he want to keep everything secret. Cheesy

What TYPE of site is it? Gambling, reviews, etc?
if I am not wrong this is in your signature because its has some bonus

Sorry, wrong guess. Tongue
It is a gambling site, but not the one in my sig (Bit777/Peerbet) nor the one in your sig (PD).  Cheesy

BTW, OP, feel free to lock the thread. Smiley
2214  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do newbs get to post outside this sub? on: January 29, 2014, 06:08:46 PM
Not anymore.

All the newbie restrictions are lifted now.
You can make a post in any board as you like, but there is still a time limit of 360 seconds between each post to prevent spamming.
Actions like logging in, signing up or searching will get the timer reset. So, you can't make your post right after login.

2215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do not be a victim of OKPAY on: January 29, 2014, 06:06:31 PM
Hi - my bank got my money back for me today. They contacted Voice Commerce Ltd. in the UK who the payment was made to originally. They were acting as payment processor for OKPay for GBP transactions. Once my bank spoke to them, the refund was instant. Since I made the payment, OKPay have changed their bank for GBP deposits, it's a Deutsche Bank account now. Voice Commerce told my bank that there had been lots of problems with OKPay so they froze their accounts.

Glad to hear that Cheesy

Thanks for info guys, I'm going to give that one a miss Smiley

Any thoughts on Scrypt mining contracts?

Rit

The thing about all mining contracts is they obviously have to sell it to you at a price that's more than it will return.  Otherwise why would they sell it to you?  If you hire me to go solo mine gold, I have to charge you more than the worth of that gold, or I would just keep it for myself.

Exactly.
By the same token, ASIC manufactures must do enough "testing" before shipping out the pre-ordered units.  Wink

2220  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago..." on: January 29, 2014, 05:56:37 PM
I have the same problem, I can t post even If i just logged on, can someone please tell me how to fix this?

I think I read that logging in counts as a post.

Yup, actions like signing up, logging in, searching will reset the timer.
So, mysicguy, you can't post when you just logged in, you need to wait 360 seconds.

IIRC, the time limit will be just 75 seconds when you reach 15 activity.

It'd be nice if the notice said something like this.

It was in the NEWBIE README before...but that part was deleted now...

Yup, that is just odd.
After the recent change on membergroup, theymos edited the newbie readme, and deleted that part. Roll Eyes
