1283  Other / Off-topic / Re: SELLING THIS THREAD FOR .001 BTC! on: February 07, 2014, 06:29:27 PM
There seems to be a lot of hubbub about this thread, in order to secure my successful purchase I will re-offer at 0.01 BTC

what's so special about the number?
RANDOM FACTS ABOUT NUMBER 451173

don't wanna reveal too many secrets, the buyer deserves to discover the secrets!

I call bullshit

every thread has a unique number that will offer some random shit from the internet

I am pretty sure both the buyer and seller here are just joking around Smiley

Hi, I am trying to get into the bitcoin craze but each time I research iant  seems as if everything is in another language as I am not well versed in tech lingo.

A few questions I have would be:
What is the purpose and benefits of bitcoin?
How do you obtain Bitcoin?

I already was advised to sign up for a wallet thru Blockchain, so I did but I have no idea what to do with it from there...

Purpose: Replace current useless pieces of paper. (You might know this as money)
Benefits: Instant, irreversible transactions.
Obtain: You buy them, you mine them, you scam people for them.

You can also sell your goods and services for bitcoin Tongue
1287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how are you promoted from newbie to jr? on: February 07, 2014, 06:21:49 PM

1291  Other / Meta / Re: Activity? on: February 07, 2014, 06:10:11 PM
Check the sticky post and you will find:

The way activity is calculated:
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

Statement Regarding BTC Withdrawal Delays
Tokyo - JAPAN - February 07, 2014
Dear MtGox Customers,
In our efforts to resolve the issue being encountered by various bitcoin withdrawals, it was determined that the increase in the flow of withdrawal requests has hindered our efforts on a technical level. To understand the issue thoroughly, the system needs to be in a static state.
In order for our team to resolve the withdrawal issue it is necessary for a temporarily pause on all withdrawal requests to obtain a clear technical view of the current processes.
We apologize for the sudden short notice. All bitcoin withdrawal requests will be on pause, and the withdrawals in the system will be returned to your MtGox wallet and can be reinitiated once the issue is resolved. The trading platform will perform as usual for the needs of our customers.

Our team will resolve this problem as soon as possible and will provide an update on Monday, February 10, 2014 (JST).

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your kind support and considerations.

Sincerely,
The MtGox Team

1299  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Please help I don't want to get scammed on: February 07, 2014, 05:50:12 PM
Protect yourself by waiting 20-40 mins till you see multiple confirmations of the funds in your wallet. There is no reversal or double-spend possible after multiple confirmations.

I think it can't be reversed after 1 confirmation as well. Double spents usually are transaction without fee's and, before the transaction gets confirmed, the same coins are send with fee's to another address. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

It can be reversed if the sender has a lot of computation power (51% attack).
But, in current situation, it is safe enough to have just 1 or 2 confirmation instead of 6, unless you are really doing a huge trade.
1300  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS] My signature space Permanently! 1 Price buys it forever! on: February 07, 2014, 05:45:42 PM
1. The price is way too high.
2. You could abandon this account right after selling the sig space. You need to guarantee your post account afterwards...
good job Getting your Posts in to earn your Minimum post requirement Smiley
