I had probably 0.5-1 btc in various coins (which is a lot for me) so this affects me too but I'd like to share something with all the other users here.
ALL COINS IN AN EXCHANGE ARE AT RISK.
Perhaps as a security measure, you can add email confirmation for withdrawals (for stolen passwords and such), and as a grand idea, as in real financial markets, we should have a clearing house.
I can help with that, but the clearing house would clear trades for all exchanges and would be hosted in a reputable country such as canada with strong laws and with technology such as the banks use. we got to up the game, these hackers deserve to be hanged. my 2 cents.

So why am I paying 200 for a transaction of 500? Shouldn't it be 100? OP (me) shouldn't have to go digging around their forum to find this out. yea, who does research before the invest/spend money right? Which doesn't answer my question about why I'm being charged twice the transaction fee. And I'm not Merrill Lynch... I wasn't trying to sink my retirement savings into Infinitecoin, I was just trying to buy some and give it away for the good of the crypto cause! Next time I spend ten bucks on some crypto, I'll call in my CPA and a panel of advisers, and have them comb all the possible cryptocurrency forums to get the low-down on exorbitant transaction fees, I guess  yup Hey, give em magic internet money. I have been speaking with a couple of people over email from Gridseed.com about buying a lot of their miners. That said, they only accept bank transfer, and I am little less than enthusiastic about paying in this way to a company on the other side of the planet from me. My question is, has anyone bought directly from them on here that would mind sharing their experience?

How about some sympathy for the guys who will lose money, instead of being all schadenfreude about it?
And even if you don't care one bit about others at all, consider that this is a massive blow on bitcoin's reputation as a whole. You don't care what the public will think? You don't care about tens of thousand of stories of people losing a good portion of their savings by investing in bitcoin. You don't care there likely exist people who will end up committing suicide over this?
Guys, I for one had gotten out of Mtgox earlier on. Then through sites like bitcoinbuilder I reinvested in goxbtc -- using more than 1/3rd of my 'real' btc to buy gox btc. Partly because I trusted when some other well-known people in the community said that mtgox had lost some bitcoins but not much, and that they're expected to get their system working after all.
So I'm biased, but sheesh! Even without a personal stake in this, I'd still see this as an unparalleled catastrophe in the history of bitcoin if everyone in mtgox lost all their money.

There are two very different problems here.
Mtgox had a bug in their wallet that made them lose some funds due to transaction malleability. This is their fault, they should have fixed it when they were warned years ago, but they didnt. If people panicked because of their announcement it is because those people didn't trust mtgox in the first place. No panic was to be had with the statement they produced.
On a second note, by bringing to light the problem of transaction malleability, someone started to DDoS the bitcoin network. This put malleability on the top priority list for bitcoin, if it wasn't there as gregory maxwell says in his interview.
So i feel that mtgox is at fault for not updating their software when suggested, but it turns out for the better that this DDoS happened because of their flaw now, rather than later. Both mtgox and the btc foundation should have been more careful with their statements, instead of pushing blame to eachother.

Well folks, I've had a good nights rest and have had some time to reflect on the situation.
So last nights launch, was a failure.
I'm not going to sit here and make excuses and ultimately any failure or success of this project lies sqaurely on my shoulders.
We have several issues....
The diff retarget was broken and set too high
Website got hammered with so much traffic the download link was hard to access
Massive DDOS attacks and volume took out all of the pools, website and database within 5 seconds of launch
I apologize publicly to the community for this outcome. I wish I could change what has happened.
What I would like to do is try to help people perhaps understand.
I myself, am a front end developer. My strengths lie in bringing products to market and I specialize in branding, marketing and product management. I really worked harder than most will ever realize to ensure that any variable I had any kind of control over was managed to the best of my ability.
In order for DopeCoin to work, it was important that I found the right people to handle the aspects of the business that I am unable to accomplish. I can't write a line of code, and I do not have server administration experience.
So I hired a server guy, and I hired a coin developer.
The coin developer named Otakusama was paid to develop the coin over a month ago. 5 days ago Otakusama deleted all of his contact information on the forums, stole the DopeCoin development money I had put up and disappeared completely.
There was a forum full of people, thousands of Twitter followers, Facebook fans and others patiently waiting for DopeCoin's release.
I knew at this point that my project was in serious trouble.
I discreetly reached out to certain members of the community and scrambled desperately to find a new coin developer to save the launch.
After only being able to find one person who was willing to help but who had never created a coin before (thanks Johnny, I appreciate that bud) I reached out to my top php coder from my main business and asked if he would take on the project.
His knowledge with crypto was 0%. But he is one of the best coders I have ever seen and was my only hope at this point.
He put in a tremendous effort and we finally uploaded the src and wallets onto github about 4 hours before launch after working for over 40 hours straight.
We were afraid that something may of been overlooked, and something had been. We had cloned the coin specifications from Otakusamas recommended parameters during our rush and the diff retarget was set at 16 hours. An impossible parameter for the coin to ever work at from what I understand now.
A couple of members of the community warned me about this, I in turn relayed those warning back to Otakusama and his team to which I was told "that's a just a forum troll, he doesn't even know what hes talking about" (looking at you on this Jolly).
The project has experienced a major setback, not unlike the setback it experienced 5 days ago when the development money was stolen.
I take full responsibility for everything that has happened.
What I can promise, is that I tried as hard as I possibly could of to pull it out of the hat and save the launch.
I will learn from each of these mistakes and ultimately will grow from the experience.
What I hope that has been proven through this whole mess is my dedication to this project and willingness to push through major obstacles to get the job done.
DopeCoin is not over, this is just the beginning!
I'm putting together a plan for relaunch and will be using all new third party providers. LiveChains will no longer be hosting the website, wallet download or the mining pools and I will be looking for a more powerful solution. Additionally I am reaching out to the community for a lead developer to help get us back on track.
I have made alot of enemies it appears because of this situation (some of you forum guys said some pretty rude and unnecessary things, shame on you) but alot of support has also come through and many new friends have been made.
For those of you that stand by DopeCoin I promise I will do everything in my power to get the project back on track. For those of you that don't, I wish you luck with your other adventures.

Total respect for this - I have zero respect for those that chose to just slag off your launch (hey guys, things go wrong) just because they didn't get the huge opportunity to instamine they expected. It take a lot of work to do this -- you foul mouthed people should just keep a lid on it - you try making something better then? As you can probably see this launch is not going as smoothly as anticipated. Pools are up, people are mining. We have faced heavy DDOS attacks and a server load that was more than we could handle. Not sure what to say at this point, waiting for the dust to settle and will go from there. This is not a premine or instamine or anything of the sorts so drop it. My dev pool was targetted and ddosed right off the start. Wallets have been available at www.dopecoin.com since launch maybe better to shut down, clear everything, restart. and get some ddos protection of some sort, idk. sounds unfair cuz someone got all those blocks |
